[Bug 243721] Re: Adept not accepting root password

2008-06-29 Thread Scott Lewin
I can also confirm this on Intrepid Alpha-1, also using Virtualbox, with
Synaptic. I give my password and I am told it is wrong. I checked
several times and I entered the correct password.

When I do a "sudo synaptic" in Konsole I get synaptic fine. When I do a
"kdesu" or "kdesudo" at the command line I get "command not found".

[Bug 244076] [NEW] Cannot uninstall Dolphin on Intrepid without unistalling Konqueror

2008-06-29 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dolphin-kde4

On my normall install of 8.04 I simply uninstall Dolphin to make
Konqueror my file browser, when I try to do the same in Intrepid it
tries to uninstall konqueror as well. Is Konqueror, somwhow, dependent
on Dolphin now?

I'm testing Intrepid Alpha-1 inside VirtualBox.

[Bug 193848] Re: dput stalling forever during upload without returning error

2008-11-10 Thread Scott Lewin
I just noticed that my laptop works fine if I plug it directly into my
modem. So, at least my problem, is a argument between my router and my
Ubuntu Laptop and Kubuntu Desktop. If it helps I have a D-link WBR-2310
router. I am going to write a separate bug as I don't think my problem
is the same as others here.

[Bug 296353] [NEW] no ftp and http upload with D-Link router

2008-11-10 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

I have had small problems with this in the past, but it became worse
recently. I can't seem to post anything up on forums, including
launchpad, as well as alter anything using http. I am also having
problems uploading via FTP as well using Nautilus or gftp. In all
casses the upload will stall and hang for about a minuite or two then
die. In the case of http I usually get a download trying to download a
PHP script.

I I plugged my computer directly into my ISP's modem and the problem
goes away(that is how I am writing this message), so I know it haves
nothing to do with my ISP. Also, when I use Vista there is no problem.
So, I know it is something Ubuntu is doing with the router that is not
working.

This problem may have something to do with bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dput/+bug/193848, but I do not
know for sure.

2008-11-20 Thread Scott Lewin
I don't know if my problem is related or not but when I try the Ubuntu

not boot up into the desktop. I get a past the first menu screen, but
it just goes into a busybox shell after trying to boot up. It seems
there are some important files missing that where not added.

[Bug 366796] [NEW] Entire system crashes in Jaunty periodically

2009-04-25 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

About every 20 to 60 minutes my entire system will crash. The mouse
pointer will still work, but everything else does not. No response from
the keyboard and no response from clicking on anything. The only thing
I can do is do a hard reset of the computer; pressing and holding the
power key until the system shuts off.

This is a fairly new install of Jaunty and I installed it from the final
only a couple days ago. I never had this problem when using the Alpha
or Beta of Jaunty earlier. It also seems that my wife does not have any
problems on her laptop. My laptop, the one not working is a Inspiron
1525 and my Wife's is an older Inspiron, 1501 I think.

I think it may have something to do with my video card as it is not well
supported in Linux. It is an Intel GMA X3100. Celestia and Google
Earth basically work, but with a lot of graphical glitches and the
opengl section always overlaps everything else. It may also be the
desktop effects as I added a couple extra. I am going to try and shut
off the desktop effects to see if that works.

[Bug 291324] [NEW] usb-creator does not work with Kubuntu 8.10 Live CD

2008-10-30 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usb-creator

I just tried the usb-creator with the Kubuntu 8.10 Live final CD and
first it looked like it was working as a progress bar poped up, but
first I noticed it was taking a while. In total it took an hour for a
CD image which seems very slow to me. Then when I booted up using the
USB I just got an error telling me to remove all media and press enter
to restart. Any time I pressed enter it would just give the same error.
I then checked the contents of the USN thumb drive and it looks like it
is empty; no files at all.

I am using Kubuntu 8.10 Beta with a almost brand new 8GB thumb drive
with the most updated USB-Creator.

[Bug 242253] [NEW] code folding in Quanta is problematic.

2008-06-22 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: quanta

At first, code folding works like a charm. I love it, but, then after a
while it starts to act very odly by missing some folds. It seems to be
worse the larger the code with php scripts that run over a 1000 lines
being the worse. If I restart Quanta the folding will be perfect
again, but will start going weird again after a little while.

[Bug 207576] Re: Missing window decoration in Thunderbird with Visual Effects on in Hardy

I can confirm this bug on Kubuntu 8.04 using KDE 3.5.9. I recieved the
same problem, I recieved a window deceration error then lost my window
decerations on Thunderbird. When I set desktop effects back to none I
got the Thunderbird decerations back.

In respone to the questions:

[Bug 238348] [NEW] Firefox Add-ons installation and update does not work.

2008-06-08 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I did an update of two of my add-ons in Firefox and added an extra two.
I then restarted Firefox and nothing happened. The add-ons still show
as not installed and still ask me to restart Firefox. Even worse, the
two add-ons that I updated are the same and now they are not usable.

To restart Firefox I both used the restart button on the add-ons window
inside Firefox and by trying to manually press the x button. When I
shut down Firefox I checked in Ksysguard to make sure nothing of Firefox
was running then started Firefox again. This still did not work and the
add-ons are still asking for a restart.

I'm Using Kubuntu 8.04 using KDE 3.5.9 and Firefox 3.0.

[Bug 319047] [NEW] webcam on inspiron 1525 haves problems with flash

2009-01-19 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

When my wife goes onto Singsnap.com the webcam works perfectly on my
Inspiron 1525, but if she leaves the page where she records music and
returns the camera will no longer work. The little blue light will not
come on and there will be no video output. The same will happen in
Cheese or Skype. If I close Firefox I then can get video in Cheese,
Skype, and even in flash again if I restart Firefox.

If I go into Skype or Cheese the video works fine. I can even start
video in Skype then stop the video and still get video in Cheese. I
don't need to close Skype to get other video to work unlike Flash in
Firefox.

I am not totally sure if the problem is with Firefox or Flash, but it
looks like the problem might have something with Firefox or Flash not
giving up control over the webcam.

I am using a Dell Inspiron 1525 with a built in 2.0 megapixel webcam and
using a fully updated Ubuntu 8.10.

[Bug 412112] [NEW] tomboy noted applet crashes on startup

2009-08-11 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic
Tomboy 0.15.4

Almost every time Karmic 9.10 starts up I get a error and Tomboy
crashes. I am also asked if I would like to delete the Tomboy applet.
Oddly enough the Tomboy editor opens up as well on boot up and works
fine, but when I close the editor the applet icon disappears. Also, if
I run Tomboy from the menu or add a new applet to the panel Tomboy will
work perfectly until the end of that session.

When running Tomboy from the command line I get no errors.

[Bug 399744] [NEW] kmail will not start at boot time using autostart

2009-07-15 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

Kubuntu Jaunty using KDE 4.2.96

boot up Kmail when the system started. Now, Kmail will not start. I

[Bug 52155] Re: [Bug 52155] Re: Amarok crashes when playing .mp3, .wma, and .ogg files

I am using the aRTs engine right now and that does not seem to have the
same problem, only the xine engine, but, I know if I switch it to the
Xine engine, I will have problems. I am currently using v1.3.9, but I
tried v1.4.1 and it had the same problem.

I would love to go back and use the Xine again, along with v1.4.1,
but until the problem is solved, I am stuck with v1.3.9 and Arts.

I know a temporary fix is to delete all the amarok files saved in my
home folder, but that seems to only work for about 20 songs before it
goes back to crashing every other song.

[Bug 52155] Amarok crashes when playing .mp3 and .wma files

2006-07-06 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

When I am playing .mp3 or .wma files amarok will stop playing the song
about half of the time and then become extreamly unstable. After
pressing almost any button amarok will then crash.

This may be a problem with the Xine engine, but I am not able to test
that as the only other engine I can download does not play .MP3 or .WMA
files.

Below is the debug info created by Amarok the last time it crashed.

[Bug 52155] Re: Amarok crashes when playing .mp3 and .wma files

crashing.

[Bug 43065] Re: kdesktop freezes often during RMB actions (dapper)

2006-07-07 Thread Scott Lewin
Same here, I have had this problem with the desktop as long as I can
remember and when I killed Kopete the desktop went back to normal.

I seem to be having the same problem with Konquror. Many times, but not
as common as Kdesktop, I will have Konquror freeze on me when I right
click on items; and this is not allways in the desktop folder. just now
I had Konquror freeze on me twice when I was trying to fix a problem
with amaroK. Twice in a row Konquror froze on me when I was right
clicking. I was forced to left click on the file then go to the edit
file to delete the file.

[Bug 52756] Thunderbird crashes sometimes when moving emails to folders by using mouse

2006-07-12 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

I do a large amount of manually moving emails from my inbox to created
folders. Sometimes thunderbird simply closes and I am forced to re-
start Thunderbird. Even though this does not happen all the time, I can
re-create the error.

I am not given an option to get a bug report from the computer. How do
I get one, otherwise? So, I can post it here.

I am using Thunderbird v.1.5.0.4 (20060615) taken from the Kubuntu
repositories. I am using Kubuntu Dapper 6.06 with all the repositories
active; I deleted the #'s.

[Bug 52155] Re: Amarok crashes when playing .mp3, .wma, and .ogg files

2006-07-12 Thread Scott Lewin
Someone on the Kubuntu list suggested I delete all my setting files in
my home directory for amaroK. I did that and it seemed to work for a
littlebit. I played about 30 songs without any troubles, then it went
right bac to crashing every other song.

Also, my system is completely updated, I use the recomended SQLite, and
I know it is the Xine engine as arts works. I have allready went
through the amaroK FAQ and tried everything.

I now don't think it haves anything to do with Amarok, and is totaly a
Xine problem as I was also having the same problem in many other
applications using xine.

The most recent update in Dapper I recieved to xine may have fixed the
problem, as I played about 2 hours of music without any problem, but I
still have not had anytime to test beyond that at this time.

I current have Kubuntu 6.06 installed and using backports with Amarok
v1.4.3.

moment, seems to have gone away; Miro did not crash. I will report back

[Bug 219988] [NEW] KDE Control module crashed in Kubuntu 8.04

2008-04-20 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

I went to the advanced tab in the system settings then selected file
systems. I then selected add new and in the window selected "windows
share". When I clicked on "scan" the KDE Control Module crashed with a
signal 11. I was able to reproduce this by doing the same steps twice
and have attached the backtrace of the second crash.

I am using Kubuntu 8.04 RC with standard KDE 3.

[Bug 227280] [NEW] strigi uses up more than 25GB of space

2008-05-06 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

I went to boot up my machine to find it can't boot up becasue my home
directory was too full. I then went into console mode and deleted a ISO
which gave me enough hard drive space to boot up Kubuntu. When I went
to search for files larger than a GB to my surprise it was strigi eating
up all my space.

After deleting strigi and all the files it created I gained over 25 GB
of space and this is on a new install; only about a week. Strigi should
not be taking up that much space and really should not be causing the
desktop to fail to boot up.

Using Kubuntu 8.04 with KDE 3.5.9.

[Bug 119719] Kate/Kdevelop haves some graphical issues when collapsing lines

2007-06-10 Thread Scott Lewin
Public bug reported:

When I am viewing source on Kate or Kdevelop sometimes after a little
while the collapsing lines get screwed up. Sometimes a line that should
be collapsible will not and at other times it will think a completely
different block of code is a child of another and collapse them
together. The problem does not happen on program startup, it only
happens after using the program for at least a few minutes.

I must admit that this is very annoying and I have had the same problem
on my Desktop as well as my older Compaq Evo Laptop. The only thing
that the two have in common is the manufacture of their video cards.
The laptop haves a older ATI Rage mobile and the desktop haves a ATI
Radeon 9550.

[Bug 109080] When populating list in Kamefu screen goes blank

Public bug reported:

When I am populating the list in kamefu the blank will go blank at 90%.
This is repeatable as it haves happened twice in a row. Whent eh screen
goes blank the computer seems to be still running as Amarok was still
playing music, but the computer was not responsive at all, so, I was
forced to do a hard reset.

I don't know if this is related to the kamefu crash or not, but when I

I would leave my computer alone and come back later to find my computer
