[Bug 269490] Re: suspend/resume broken on dell Latitude E6400 kernel 2.6.27-3

@Thomas Neff: I tried your workaround, but resume failed at the second try. For
me only the "disable CPUs" fix works.

[Bug 269490] Re: suspend/resume broken on dell Latitude E6400 kernel 2.6.27-3

2008-11-25 Thread Robert Entner
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 276943 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276943

@Rob: The trick does not come from myself. I think the original post is the
following:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=6105510&postcount=12
Then there are other interesting sources:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17807
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Install_Ubuntu_8.10_(Intrepid_Ibex)_on_a_Thinkpad_T400#Suspend.2FHibernate
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/276943

The only problem is that CPU frequency scaling cannot be properly
changed using the gnome applet afterwards.

[Bug 363428] [NEW] ctrl+alt+f1 does not bring me to a text console

2009-04-18 Thread Robert Entner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Switching from X to a text console using ctrl+alt+f1 only gives a short
black screen, instantly re-entering X. Trying this a second time gives

The same applies to the other virtual consoles.

Intrepid was totaly fine, as far as I remember.

Andrew, I am using 2.7.0 right now and used Startup-Manager to switch
to 1024x768x24bit. With this configuration it works now flawlessly!
I do not know if it would work with plain Jaunty just adding 2.7.0. If
it helps I can try, just tell me please.

[Bug 252094] Re: MASTER: Poor graphics performance on Intel

2009-02-24 Thread Robert Entner
I experimented with Jaunty the other day, when enabling UXA I get
significantly improved performance. This is especially important for
viewing full-screen flash videos (youtube). This was not possible before
and the CPU load while viewing dramatically decreased. At Openarena I
get 51fps instead of Intrepids 37fps.

[Bug 269490] Re: suspend/resume broken on dell Latitude E6400 kernel 2.6.27-3

2008-10-28 Thread Robert Entner
I have copied an Intrepid beta to an USB stick using usb-creator. When I
boot from that stick suspend works fine, just as it did with my hdd
install some days ago. Booting from the harddisk with an up-to-date
Ubuntu does not work though.

Also I tried to install a release candidate without adding any packages
to default -> suspend does not work.

When I switch to a text-console and suspend by using "pmi action
suspend" it _never_ fails to resume. Switching to the graphical console
(ALT+F7) then freezes the system. This is 100% the case when I was
logged in to Gnome. When X was in GDM no crash happens.

I tried the newest Kernel (2.6.28-RC2 I think) -> still freezes.

[Bug 350955] [NEW] cpufreq-applet: cpu scaling starts always with "performance" should be "ondemand"

2009-03-29 Thread Robert Entner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

On Intrepid the cpu frequency scaling was set to "ondemand" after
reboot. In Janty beta it is now "performance". Is this on purpose? Then
it should at least respect my last setting before shutdown.

On multi-core I have to change the scaling on each cpu separately. On
Intrepid changing CPU0 to "ondemand" changed the behavior on both -
which I find more reasonable.

[Bug 44622] Re: USB mouse does not work after waking up from hibernation

2006-09-18 Thread Robert Entner
I just tried hibernation and my mouse worked perfectly fine after resume,
without unloading the modules. Might have to do with the fix in this bug?

[Bug 220164] Re: Cannot mount volume

2008-05-02 Thread Robert Entner
Thanks for the command, its output lead me to have a look into /etc/fstab and
delete the entry for sdb1 ->solved!
Maybe the reason is I used an USB stick to install the distribution as my
notebook has no CDROM.

[Bug 220164] Re: Cannot mount volume

2008-04-26 Thread Robert Entner
The same here on freshly installed Hardy 8.04 final. Automatic mount of EXT3
partitions on my USB drive works, mounting the FAT32 on the same disk gives the
error above. Also the FAT32 partition on my USB keydrive can not be mounted.
Manually using mount works.

Seems to be a severe bug on the otherwise very-very nice Hardy.

2008-04-26 Thread Robert Entner
Tried the same on my Athlon 1600+ desktop system and the stick mounted
without problems.

On my Acer Travelmate C111 with Intel ULV the above error occured. Both
are freshly installed with Hardy 8.04 final yesterday and had no
problems on Gutsy.

Thanks for your effort,

[Bug 189715] [NEW] wrong screen resolution on aluminum 20 inch imac

2008-02-06 Thread Robert Entner
Public bug reported:

On my 20 inch iMac with 2.4 GHz Intel CPU Hardy Alphy 4 boots into a
screen resolution of 1400x1050 instead of 1680x1050.

Graphiccard:
ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO

lspci:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Unknown device 9583

The same problem exists with Gutsy, it can be solved by installing the
proprietary ATI driver, which in return causes lock ups and other
problems like weird color distortions from time to time.

Thank you,
Burt

[Bug 644223] Re: Suspend problem with Maverick on ThinkPad W500

2010-11-04 Thread Robert Entner
For me using the kernel of Ubuntu 10.04 works perfectly fine and
reliable. The same on my daughter's Laptop (Lenovo with Intel graphics).

Dell Latitude E6400 with Intel graphics.
Linux bdell 2.6.32-25-generic-pae #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 17 21:57:48 UTC 2010

[Bug 631824] Re: Intermittent halts with kernel 2.6.35-19-generic

2010-10-15 Thread Robert Entner
I have exactly the same symptoms: I type something, nothing appears, I
move the mouse and the text is there. Also the system monitor stops
updating, I move the mouse or press a key it updates again. This every
second or so.

Using 2.6.32 fixes this for me. Also suspend and hybernate only work
with the older kernel.

I thought it has something to do with Broadcom's wl driver. Using the
b43 open source driver seemed to help. But I am not totally sure about
this.

Lenovo G550.

[Bug 50198] Re: "Timeout has expired" error on resume from hibernate

2010-08-07 Thread Robert Entner
Does this bug really deserve Importance=low? At least my wife complains
about this every time, also I see this as really annoying making Ubuntu
look "unready".
