[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.
There is now an upstream "near-final patch" for gvfs that is working well in intrepid and which does not have the problems with unreachable bookmarks. It requires an additional small patch to nautilus to work properly, though. Details may be found at the upstream bug report (starting from comment 46): http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=524485 -- nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207072 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 342096] Re: SD Card containing /home corrupted on resume
I confirm this bug on a Dell mini9 with ubuntu-9.04-netbook-remix-i386. After resuming from a suspend with a mounted SHDC card, the partition table on the card is corrupted. This does not happen with the original ubuntu 8.04 shipped by Dell. Looking at the config files of the Dell 8.04 and the Ubuntu 9.04 kernels I found these relevant differences: config-2.6.24-22-lpia (Ubuntu 8.04 Dell): ... CONFIG_MMC=y CONFIG_MMC_BLOCK=y CONFIG_MMC_SDHCI=y CONFIG_MMC_SDHCI_PCI=y CONFIG_MMC_UNSAFE_RESUME=y ... config-2.6.28-11-generic (ubuntu 9.04): ... CONFIG_MMC=y CONFIG_MMC_BLOCK=m CONFIG_MMC_SDHCI=m CONFIG_MMC_SDHCI_PCI=m # CONFIG_MMC_UNSAFE_RESUME is not set ... Then I build custom packages of 2.6.28-11 kernel and restricted-modules for jaunty, using the CONFIG_MMC options of the Ubuntu 8.04 kernel and this solved the problem for me. No, the issues of comment 220 are not present in jaunty and in intrepid. They are specific of hardy and of the 95_svn_change_fix_smb_browsing.patch, since reverting to the version of gvfs in hardy-updates restores the ability to browse the smb:/// Windows Network (but not, of course, the domain shares). -- nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207072 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.
I have tested the gvfs and nautilus packages in hardy-proposed. Here are the problems I found (they are essentially the same described some time ago in the upstream bug report: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=524485#c57 In virtualbox running ubuntu 8.04.2: When the machine is not joined to an AD domain (LAB), opening the Network Servers icon puts me in network:///, showing the "Windows Network" icon. Clicking on "Windows Network" I enter smb:/// but nautilus reports: 0 objects Inserting manually smb://LAB/ in the location bar I am asked for a password and after inserting the credentials of a domain user I can access the list of the machines. Share browsing can be done without problems. When the machine is joined to an AD domain (LAB) and I login as a local user the situation is as described above. When the machine is joined to AD domain (LAB) and I login as a domain user (with kerberos ticket), opening the Network Servers icon puts me directly in smb://LAB. Share browsing can be done without problems (but this was also possible without the patched gvfs). So, with the proposed packages there are problems in browsing the Windows Network (smb:///) with machines not joined to an AD domain or in the absence of kerberos tickets. From the normal user point of view, this situation is probably worse than before. -- nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207072 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have compiled gvfs 64-bit from source, as I have described in comment 20. If you follow the instructions given here: http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/apt-howto/ch-sourcehandling.html it is not that hard. Essentially you do this (you must have the deb-src lines active in /etc/apt/sources.list): $ sudo apt-get update $ apt-get source gvfs ... apply the patch properly, then $ sudo apt-get build-dep gvfs (this takes care of installing all the build dependencies). [Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.
Steve, as described in comment 12, I'm using kerberos authentication inside an ADS network and I have no problems with nautilus and gvfs. However my setup is different from yours. The smb.conf is like this: [global] workgroup = LAB realm = MYDOMAIN.COM netbios name = %h-DEB server string = %h-DEB (Samba %v, Ubuntu) security = ADS password server = dhcpias1.mydomain.com restrict anonymous = 2 client NTLMv2 auth = Yes client lanman auth = No client plaintext auth = No log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m os level = 0 preferred master = No local master = No domain master = No idmap domains = LAB idmap config LAB: default = yes idmap config LAB: backend = rid idmap config LAB: range = 10-100 template shell = /bin/bash winbind separator = _ winbind enum users = Yes winbind enum groups = Yes winbind use default domain = Yes winbind refresh tickets = Yes winbind offline logon = Yes invalid users = root [Share] comment = %h-DEB_Share path = /home/LAB/adsusername/Share valid users = LAB_adsusername, "@LAB_domain users", @users force user = LAB_adsusername read only = No The PAM configuration has been changed by using this line in /etc/pam.d /common-auth: auth sufficient pam_winbind.so krb5_auth krb5_ccache_type=FILE cached_login This means that the login user is a domain user (not a local user) and that it automatically acquires a kerberos ticket. With this setup I'm able to browse with nautilus all network shares (including the one of the local workstation) even without the gvfs patch from darkrain42. So it seems that in my case gvfs is correctly using kerberos credentials and I wonder if your problem may be related to something else than the gvfs patch. In reply to comment 67 (Yann Rouillard): I don't know if I have to file a separate bug for the behaviour I have described. Maybe some other developer can say that. After all, the fact is that system-tools-backend is not able to behave correctly as do the command line utilities in all the situations described for this bug. It seems that no one had problems with "adduser" and "deluser". So my question is: why don't make system-tools-backend act as a simple front-end to that commands? Is there any operation that the command line utilities are not able to do? Or are there other motivations? By the way, I can confirm that the bug is still present after a fresh installation of gutsy. -- Adding a user to a group modifies other users' groups and passwords https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/26338 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 212340] Re: [hardy] 2.6.24-15 fails to boot with saa7134(?)
I booted my machine with kernel 2.6.24-15.27-generic, after removing the quiet and splash option. This time the boot process did not stop, but I was presented with the screen showing the failsafe mode for X. The video card, the sound card and the network card were not recognized. [Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.
Acquiring a kerberos ticket from an AD server, using pam_winbind at login (or using kinit in a shell), allows a user to browse samba shares with its cached credentials. This is described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ActiveDirectoryWinbindHowto#head-a1da1a136c89873cbd7c7a1e1fbd75d621d18c9a Maybe gvfs expects to find this or other authentications, but in any case this behaviour is different from what happened with gnomevfs in previous releases. [Bug 26338] Re: Adding a user to a group modifies other users' groups and passwords
I've experienced this bug in the following situation: at my workplace I've set up several machines running Ubuntu 7.04 and which are integrated in an Active Domain Network controlled by a Windows Server. I did this using samba, kerberos and winbind, and now these machines can be used with local and domain accounts (domain accounts are not listed in /etc/passwd but are managed by winbind). To allow some domain accounts to gain administrative privileges I added them manually to the admin group with 'adduser'. After that, if you use System -> Administration -> Users and Groups to add a new user, all the domain users (not local users) which were granted admin rights will lose their privileges. [Bug 207072] [NEW] Nautilus in hardy does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Using hardy beta, when I browse with nautilus other machines in an Active Directory (ADS) network, some of them do not show their shared folders. The ADS integration of the hardy box was done using winbind, kerberos and PAM libraries, essentially as described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ActiveDirectoryWinbindHowto The network contains mostly windows clients, but also several linux boxes, which were joined to the ADS domain with the command: 'net ads join'. Machines running windows XP, windows 2003 and samba show '0 objects' in nautilus, but after inserting the complete path (eg.: smb://server/share) the folders can be accessed after the password prompt. [Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.
Yes, when using nautilus in gutsy a password is requested for browsing the machines in cases 1 and 2, but not in case 3. I checked it also with a gutsy live CD, because the presence of gnome-keyring does make it difficult to say if browsing a share requires or not a password. So the problem in hardy is that nautilus does not ask for it. In case 3 it shows the shares because they are browseable without password. -- nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/207072 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have recompiled the ubuntu feisty kernel disabling the 'USB selective suspend/resume and wakeup' option, but in my case the problem remained. With my HP ScanJet 4070 (hp3900 backend) xsane freezes while triyng to find the device. xscanimage, instead, works if the correct device name is supplied. Changing: ${battery_bar 8} to: ${battery_bar} is a temporary solution. -- can't read battery state https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/569195 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
This is what happens on my system: - with brasero-2.30.0 and cdrdao-1.2.2 I cannot make cd-audio images and cannot copy cd-audio on the fly - with brasero-2.30.0 and cdrdao-1.2.3 I can make cd-audio images and cannot copy cd-audio on the fly - with brasero-2.31.2 and cdrdao-1.2.2 I cannot make cd-audio images and can copy cd-audio on the fly - with brasero-2.31.2 and cdrdao-1.2.3 I can make cd-audio images and can copy cd-audio on the fly So we need both packages upgraded to solve this bug. -- brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529696 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
I've also put cdrdao-1.2.3 and gcdmaster-1.2.3 packages in my ppa: https://launchpad.net/~renbag/+archive/ppa They have been build without any of the debian patches used for the 1.2.2 version (but many of them were already merged upstream). They work well with cd-audio in my system. -- brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529696 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
For me the package in proposed (brasero_2.30.1-0ubuntu2) does not work. I cannot make images of cd-audio and cannot copy cd-audio on the fly. I always get an error saying that all the necessary applications and libraries are not installed. I can do both operations with the packages in my ppa (see comments #56, #60 and #63). -- brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529696 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 495655] Re: Upgrade cdrdao to 1.2.3
I've put test packages of cdrdao-1.2.3 and gcdmaster-1.2.3 in my ppa: https://launchpad.net/~renbag/+archive/ppa They have been build without any of the debian patches used for the 1.2.2 version (many of them were already merged upstream). I confirm that the package conky-all_1.8.0-1ubuntu2~ppa1 restores the correct behaviour of battery_bar. -- can't read battery state https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/569195 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
Upstream developers have already stated in comment 4 of the relative bug (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=617222) that: "it turns out that cdrdao 1.2.2 recognizes "cdrdao version" as an illegal command and since brasero expect a precise string for parsing version, and in the case of 1.2.2 it does not get it, it fails." and that: "The plugin associated with cdda2wav was designed to work with the cdda2wav coming from the cdrtools package. Up until now, it would refuse to work if it turned out cdda2wav was a symlink Now I turned off this mechanism just for cdda2wav plugin in next version which means that it should work with a symlink to icedax now". So it seems that the kernel has nothing to do with this bug and we need updated versions of brasero and cdrdao to solve it. -- brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529696 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
Can someone else test the packages in my ppa? This can be of help to developers to make updated official packages.
