[Bug 1903596] Re: stack trace in kernel

2020-11-27 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Focal)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Hirsute)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: Confirmed

** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Xenial)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Groovy)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Description changed:

- This appears to be a problem in the ath10k module. I am not sure what it
- is exactly.
+ == SRU Justification ==
+ Whenever a buggy NAPI driver returns more than its budget, it will
+ trigger a stack trace warning with:
+ WARN_ON_ONCE(work > weight);
+
+ The warning message looks like this :
+ WARNING: CPU: 2 PID: 0 at
/build/linux-hwe-ymdo11/linux-hwe-4.15.0/net/core/dev.c:5672
net_rx_action+0x276/0x3b0
+
+ This is not very useful for debugging purpose, since it does not tell
+ you what's going on there.
+
+ == Fix ==
+ * 427d5838e996 ("net: napi: remove useless stack trace")
+
+ This patch will emit a message giving the function name, and a
+ descriptive message like:
+ NAPI poll function ath10k_pci_napi_poll+0x0/0x120 [ath10k_pci] returned
0, exceeding its budget of 64.
+
+ This patch is a clean-cherry for all the releases except Xenial.
+ For Xenial it will need to be applied with -C1
+
+ == Test ==
+ Test kernels can be found here:
+
+ Please note that even though I tried to reproduce this on a XPS 13
+ 9360 mentioned in this bug report that shipped with Atheros QCA6174
+ [168c:003e] wireless card, but I can't trigger this warning message.
+ The bug opener is also unable to test this due to some other reasons.
+
+ Howeve I did tried to trigger this warning forcibly by putting it
+ outside the if statement with the test kernels in the following link
+ to make sure it won't cause some other problem.
+
+ https://people.canonical.com/~phlin/kernel/lp-1903596-napi-warnon/force-
+ to-warn/
+
+ == Where problems could occur ==
+ For this bug itself, this patch does not really solve the problem
+ but it will provide more debug information for developers in the
+ future (and since this is just a warning message, it should be fine).
+ We can expect to see more a detailed report against ath10k driver
+ in the future on launchpad.
+
+
+ == Original Bug Report ==
+ This appears to be a problem in the ath10k module. I am not sure what it is
exactly.

[Bug 1892860] Re: af_alg07 in crypto / cve-2019-8912 in cve from ubuntu_ltp failed on B-arm64

2020-11-29 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Still visible on F-azure 5.4.0-1032.33, but only with instance
Standard_D48_v3

We might need to test this manually on this instance to see if it needs
more time to run.

Hello Tom,
your finding looks promising, I have built two kernels base on that: Bionic

Could you give them a test to see if this can solve your problem? (Don't forget
to remove the i8042.noloop=1 option.)

[Bug 1522572] Re: Touchpad doesn't work at all

2020-11-30 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hello folks,
I think this one has been fixed with:
>From 41c567a5d7d1a986763e58c3394782813c3bcb03 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001
From: Marcos Paulo de Souza
Date: Sun, 18 Dec 2016 15:26:12 -0800
Subject: [PATCH] Input: i8042 - add Pegatron touchpad to noloop table

Avoid AUX loopback in Pegatron C15B touchpad, so input subsystem is able
to recognize a Synaptics touchpad in the AUX port.

Fixes: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=93791
(Touchpad is not detected on DNS 0801480 notebook (PEGATRON C15B))

[Bug 1905446] Re: Touchpad not working in Ubuntu on Acer Aspire E3-112

2021-02-24 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Hello Murat,

The BIOS is the same no matter what your OS is.

For your touchpad issue, can you try this latest mainline kernel out?
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.11.1/
Instructions can be found here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds

And attach dmesg output along with your test result (with command
"dmesg" in a terminal window, CTRL+ALT+T)

For your camera issue, please open a new bug with "ubuntu-bug linux", it's
easier to track different issues in their own bug report.
Thank you!

Hum...
yes this kernel contains 5.11.0-18 from the master-next branch + the commit
mentioned in your bug description:

ubuntu-hirsute [master-next]$ git log --oneline
d96cbcb tools/power/turbostat: Fix turbostat for AMD Zen CPUs
8c01482 UBUNTU: Ubuntu-5.11.0-18.19

Author: Bas Nieuwenhuizen
Date: Wed Apr 28 17:09:03 2021 +0800

tools/power/turbostat: Fix turbostat for AMD Zen CPUs

BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1928183

It was reported that on Zen+ system turbostat started exiting,
which was tracked down to the MSR_PKG_ENERGY_STAT read failing because
offset_to_idx wasn't returning a non-negative index.

This patch combined the modification from Bingsong Si and
Bas Nieuwenhuizen and addd the MSR to the index system as alternative for
MSR_PKG_ENERGY_STATUS.

BTW it looks like you will need to install more than just linux-tools-common
deb. On a 21.04 clean install, if I just install linux-tools-common the
turbostat command will complain about:
$ turbostat
WARNING: turbostat not found for kernel 5.11.0-17

You may need to install the following packages for this specific kernel:
linux-tools-5.11.0-17-generic
linux-cloud-tools-5.11.0-17-generic

I will have to install 5.11.0-18 kernel/header/module/module-extras debs and
other two tools-5.11 deb files to make it work on 5.11.0-18
Can you give it a try?
Thanks

Hi David,

I found a laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 APU and gave it a try, before this
patch turbostat will terminate with return code 243:

[Bug 1856010] Re: xfrm_policy.sh / pmtu.sh / udpgso_bench.sh from net in ubuntu_kernel_selftests will fail with timeout if running the whole suite

2021-05-23 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
For G/KVM,
xfrm_policy.sh is failing with:
expected ping to .254 to fail (exceptions)
lp:1900645 xfrm_policy.sh in net from ubuntu_kernel_selftests failed with
"expected ping to .254 to fail" on Groovy
pmtu.sh is failing with:
lp:1887661 pmtu.sh from net in ubuntu_kernel_selftests failed with no error
message
udpgso_bench.sh passed.

Therefore I changed the bug title here.

+ $ echo $?
+ 1
+
+ This is because the test script treats all non-zero return code as a
+ failure, thus it will be marked as FAILED when some sub-test got
+ skipped.
+
+ [Fix]
+ * ef1220a7d4bbdb selftests: pmtu.sh: use $ksft_skip for skipped return
+ code
+ * 2a9d3716b810a4 selftests: pmtu.sh: improve the test result processing
+
+ This patchset will:
+ 1. Use the kselftest framework skip code $ksft_skip to replace the
+ hardcoded SKIP return code.
+ 2. Improve the result processing, the test will be marked as PASSED
+ if nothing goes wrong and not all the tests were skipped.
+
+ These have already landed in newer releases and this test does not
+ exist in B, thus we just need this for F/F-OEM-5.6/F-OEM-5.10/G.
+
+ The first patch needs to be backported (except on F-OEM-5.10) as some
+ test cases were not added yet.
+ The second one can be cherry-picked.
+
+ [Test]
+ Run this test directly on a patched kernel. The skipped test will cause
+ failure to this test.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+ Changes limited to testing tools, it's unlikely to cause any problem
+ to kernel functions.

[Bug 1929925] [NEW] [Potential Regression] Unable to create KVM with uvtool on Groovy ARM64

2021-05-28 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
Public bug reported:

Issue found on 5.8.0-54-generic proposed ARM64 kernel with node "helo",
"wright"

This issue does not exist in 5.8.0-53.60 so this might be a regression.

Test case:
  1. Deploy Groovy on an ARM64 node
  2. Create a KVM with the following command:
 uvt-kvm create bjf-test release=groovy arch=arm64
Or you can run the ubuntu_kvm_smoke_test with autotest:
 git clone --depth=1 git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/autotest-client-tests
-b master-next
 git clone --depth=1 git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/autotest
 rm -fr autotest/client/tests
 ln -sf ~/autotest-client-tests autotest/client/tests
 sudo apt-get install git python-minimal -y || sudo apt install python2 -y
 AUTOTEST_PATH=/home/ubuntu/autotest sudo -E autotest/client/autotest-local
--verbose autotest/client/tests/ubuntu_kvm_smoke_test/control
  3. Install the proposed kernel and reboot
  4. Repeat step 2

This is 100% reproducible on ARM64, 4 out of 4 attempts (twice on each
nodes).

Test log:
  + SUT=bjf-test
  + SSH_KEY=/home/ubuntu/.ssh/id_rsa

syslog with successful KVM test on 5.8.0-53

** Attachment added: "arm64-kvm-5-8-0-53.log"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1929925/+attachment/5500864/+files/arm64-kvm-5-8-0-53.log

** Description changed:

Issue found on 5.8.0-54-generic proposed ARM64 kernel with node "helo",
  "wright"

This issue does not exist in 5.8.0-53.60 so this might be a regression.

  Test case:
- Create a KVM with the following command:
- uvt-kvm create bjf-test release=groovy arch=arm64
- Or you can run the ubuntu_kvm_smoke_test with autotest:
- git clone --depth=1 git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/autotest-client-tests
-b master-next
- git clone --depth=1 git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/autotest
- rm -fr autotest/client/tests
- ln -sf ~/autotest-client-tests autotest/client/tests
- sudo apt-get install git python-minimal -y || sudo apt install python2 -y
- AUTOTEST_PATH=/home/ubuntu/autotest sudo -E
autotest/client/autotest-local --verbose
autotest/client/tests/ubuntu_kvm_smoke_test/control
+ 1. Deploy Groovy on an ARM64 node
+ 2. Create a KVM with the following command:
+ uvt-kvm create bjf-test release=groovy arch=arm64
+      Or you can run the ubuntu_kvm_smoke_test with autotest:

+ AUTOTEST_PATH=/home/ubuntu/autotest sudo -E
autotest/client/autotest-local --verbose
autotest/client/tests/ubuntu_kvm_smoke_test/control
+ 3. Install the proposed kernel and reboot
+ 4. Repeat step 2

This is 100% reproducible on ARM64, 4 out of 4 attempts (twice on each
  nodes).
