[Bug 253118] [NEW] Network Manger does not depend on gnome-network-admin

2008-07-29 Thread Pete Graner
Public bug reported:

Intrepid Alpha 3 does not install gnome-network-admin by default, looks
like a dep is missing. When clicking in the "Manual Configuration" menu
choice on Network Manger nothing happens. After digging I found the
gnome-network-admin package which contains /usr/bin/network-admin was
missing on the system.

[Bug 338598] Re: [g41] [West Lake] System unable to detect optimized graphic resolution.

2009-05-12 Thread Pete Graner
@Jerone,

You are incorrect the kernel patch is *NOT* in proposed. It is in the
tree but not in proposed. This most likely will not make the cut for an
Intrepid SRU. We are only enabling HW on Jaunty.

Additionally if this did get passed by the SRU team you will not see it
for another few months as the current kernel in proposed will have to go
into -updates, then the next proposed kernel will have to soak for 6+
weeks prior to getting into -updates.

2009-06-30 Thread Pete Graner

[Bug 364678] [NEW] Globetrotter 3g modem not seen

2009-04-21 Thread Pete Graner
Public bug reported:

Sony VGN-TZ21VN has a built-in Globetrotter, USB productId 6901, which
shows up when warm-booting into linux from windows. You can then load
the option driver and talk to the device.

The problem is, that a cold boot does not show any trace of the device.

To get it working you have to load the sony_laptop module then the
device can be powered up with:

echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/wwanpower

the sony laptop module needs to be patched to force the modem on upon
module insertion.

[Bug 290197] [NEW] VT switching API is inherently racy

2008-10-28 Thread Pete Graner
Public bug reported:

The requisite calling sequence for switching to a different VT is:

1. ioctl(VT_ACTIVATE, N) // request an asynchronous switch to VT #N
2. ioctl(VT_WAITACTIVE, N) // wait for VT #N to become active

If, between these two steps, another process calls VT_ACTIVATE, call #2
will block indefinitely waiting for the VT to become active.

Try some of the suggestions here:

if you find a combo that works post it here and we can tweak the fdi

if not we need to dig deeper.

[Bug 258801] Re: Gets bogus DNS servers during PPP negotiation

2008-10-10 Thread Pete Graner
I had one other corner case worked out but it caused unexpected issues
with one tower/provider I hit. Like dumping. I'm reverting back to the

we just need to use the original patch as it does work better and allow
a connection.

[Bug 258801] Re: Gets bogus DNS servers during PPP negotiation

2008-09-19 Thread Pete Graner
There is a patch that fixes this problem but as far as I can tell it has
not made its way into the upstream ppp source. What is happening is that
the mobile ISP is demanding that the client accept MS DNS servers which
ppp refuses to do so the connection is terminated. From my
experimentation is not ISP specific rather than cell specific. For
example I have AT&T it will work in one "area" and fail across town,
still on the same AT&T network.

Patch is located here:

2008-06-18 Thread Pete Graner
I have a Dell D620 and I got the internal mic working. Steps and lspci
follow:

00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition
Audio Controller (rev 01)
Subsystem: Dell Unknown device 01c2
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 20
Memory at efffc000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [60] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit+ Queue=0/0
Enable-
Capabilities: [70] Express Unknown type IRQ 0

1) Added /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
   options snd-hda-intel model=dell-3stack

2) Reboot (I couldn't get the snd module to reload for anything)
3) Run alsamixer and:
   * Tab to [Capture]
   * Set  the 1st Capture gain to %50, 2nd Capture to 0% & Digital to %50
   * Set input source to Mic

Now my mic jack on the side of the computer doesn't work. But this set up works
for me for time being.

[Bug 254091] [NEW] [Intrepid] Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 Generates a corrupt screen with compiz enabled

2008-08-01 Thread Pete Graner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I have a MacAir with a Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 chip. After installing
Intrepid Alpha 3 with all updates. Going to
System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects->Normal or Extra cause
the screen to go black with various video artifacts. (See attached
photo).

This is a regression as it works in Hardy.

2008-08-17 Thread Pete Graner
The driver is in Intrepid run the following:

sudo /etc/init.d/linux-restricted-modules-common start
sudo depmod -a
modprobe wl

You will only have to do this once. After that wl will be available and
jockey should pick it up.

Its now built into the Jaunty kernel, you don't need to use the module
anymore. You should have your /dev/TTYUSBx devices created at boot.

[Bug 345002] Re: gprs/3g driver in 9.04

2009-03-19 Thread Pete Graner
@Bor_Ed

As a short term workaround until we can get it added pls try and report
back with:

Built in modules can have module params passed on the kernel command
line: can you try booting with:

usbserial.vendor=0x12d1 usbserial.product=0x1099

You will need to press ESC during to grub pause upon restart/power on.

Arrow down to the kernel you wish to boot.

press "e" (for edit)

Arrow down to the 2nd line (the command line)

Press Enter to begin editing

Arrow to the end of the line and add:

usbserial.vendor=0x12d1 usbserial.product=0x1099

When done press enter. Then press "b" to boot

Sample release note text:

The ARM port currently does not support the ppoll() & pselect() system
syscalls. This will exhibit itself by failing to mount the root
filesystem. This is a race condition and retrying the boot will usually
clear the problem. The work to add the syscalls is currently underway
and will be delivered as an update to the Jaunty kernel sometime after
