[Bug 223400] Re: When right-clicking on a Raw image, I cannot open it in the Gimp

[Bug 223400] Re: When right-clicking on a Raw image, I cannot open it in the Gimp

2008-12-09 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
Is this bug still about F-Spot?

Anyway GIMP and F-Spot do not natively support raw files, and need UFRaw
for that...

For GIMP there's the gimp-ufraw package...

For F-Spot there a plugin called "DevelopInUFRaw" which develops the raw
file, and the resulting jpg/tif is re-imported into F-Spot as a new
version of the older raw.

The raw preview f-spot displays is nothing more than a preview, and
cannot be edited or exported...

[Bug 223400] Re: When right-clicking on a Raw image, I cannot open it in the Gimp

2008-12-09 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
Sorry for the seperate posts...

But you cannot open a raw using gimp(-ufraw) from within F-Spot, when
F-Spot opens a file with the GIMP it copies the file, and opens the
copy. F-Spot expects the GIMP to save to the same file, and you cannot
save to raw. You save to a JPG (or whatever), but F-Spot cannot know to
what JPEG you just saved...

This is where the F-Spot DevelopInUFRaw extension comes in... The
extension calls the standalone UFRaw with the raw file as parameters
_and_ a target jpeg as parameters. This way F-Spot determines which raw
is developed into _what_ jpeg file. Once UFRaw has closed, the target
jpeg to reimported as a new version.

The proper workflow:
RAW file -> DevelopInUFRaw -> Open with GIMP

I own a HP Photosmart C6280 printer, which has always worked fine while
using Ubuntu Hardy.

However, since I reinstalled my system with Ubuntu Intrepid I've not
been able to print any photos using either F-Spot or The GIMP.

Printing text using OpenOffice.org seems to work just fine. Printing a
test page in CUPS works fine as well.

After printing a photo, the my CPU usage rises to 100% for 5 minutes,
and which a page comes out of my printer with the following text:

Error: /ioerror in --run--
Operand stack:

After that, the printing dialog reports:
/usr/lib/cups/foomatic-rip failed: Printer PhotosmartC6280 may not be connected.

@Manty01Actual, this has nothing to do with your SCSI. This is just a
bug in the Broadcom PATA chipset driver.

[Bug 148466] Re: Won't boot on a DELL Poweredge 2500

2008-06-06 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
I'm not a kernel-hacker, but, as claimed on the RedHat bugzilla, this may
resolve the issue:
http://lisa.ines.ro/git/linux-2.6/diff/?id=36beb82390235236c60eb97ca526b1cad97e2df3&id2=152af05cc85119d294b977ab4de07a781795c298

If custom install images (with this kernel fix) are made available, I'd
be more than happy to test them.

[Bug 314794] [NEW] Please sync UFRaw 0.15 from Debian Experimental

2009-01-07 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
Public bug reported:

A new version of UFRaw has been released with lots of improvements.

Please sync ufraw 0.15 from Debian Experimental.

I've previously filed a request for 0.14.1 to be synced:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ufraw/+bug/305966

This version contained a packaging bug, which make gimp-ufraw depend on
gimp < 2.4 which cannot be satisfied by Intrepid or Jaunty because they
have GIMP 2.6.

This got fixed in 0.15-1:
http://packages.debian.org/experimental/ufraw

The new release also has support for lots of new cameras.

2009-01-23 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
"even suggesting such a workflow shows an obvious lack of insight into
why a photographer would use RAW to begin with"

Well, this is a bit of an elitist remark. Don't get me wrong, you're
right, but the lossyness of JPEG at 100% isn't bad, and UFRaw disables
subsampling at 92% or better.

The current solution is quite workable... But it's not ideal...

[Bug 305966] Re: please sync ufraw from debian experimental

2008-12-24 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
The current build of 0.14.1-2 has a bug, namelijk gimp-ufraw depends on
< GIMP 2.5, which means it won't install with GIMP 2.6... It's trivially
fixed by removing the version dependancy...

However... UFRaw 0.15 was released today... And repackaging it should be
trivial...

Possibly resyncing in a couple of days would be possible?

There is a new ufraw version in Debian experimental which fixes the
gimp-ufraw issues... (0.14.1-3)

But I recommend waiting on resyncing until 0.15 becomes available in

 * Canon PowerShot G10
 * Canon EOS 5D Mark II
 * Leaf AFi 7
 * Leica D-LUX4
 * Panasonic DMC-FX150

[Bug 309684] [NEW] Please sync exiv2-0.18 from Debian Experimental

2008-12-19 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
Public bug reported:

Please sync the latest exiv2-0.18 from Debian Experimental.

exiv2-0.18 has great new features such as TIFF+EXIF write support. Read
support for more filetypes including Photoshop PSD, and JPEG2000 (JP2).

It can also detect Canon Lenstype strings, which with previous version
worked only for Nikon.

http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/e/exiv2/exiv2_0.18-1/changelog

For example the new UFRaw package can use the new TIFF+EXIV2 write
support. Others like digikam/phatch could benefit as well...

[Bug 346840] [NEW] Buddy List taskbar icon shows on all virtual desktops

2009-03-22 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu Jaunty (updated to today 22 March 2009), with Pidgin 2.5.5,
The Buddy List taskbar icon (below in the bottom GNOME panel), shows on
all virtual desktops. While the window is only actually visible on a
single virtual desktop.

This is weird and broken behaviour. The taskbar button for the Buddy
List should only show on the virtual desktop where the actual window is
present. And NOT on other virtual desktops.

I'm suspecting this broken behaviour was explicitly patched in.

Although I'm not entirely sure, the following patch might be the culprit:
  11_buddy_list_really_show.patch

Please revert Pidgin to normal behaviour... The windows manager should
manage the windows... not the application itself!

The most prominent would be Warzone 2100, while everything in 3D is just
black. Only 2D overlays are rendered. I do not have this issue, using
the exact same driver with my Q35 chip. Only with the GM45.

ioQuake3 has some minor artifact too, for example in the player model

[Bug 53550] Re: USB Mass Storage: I/O error

2006-08-07 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
I've followed those steps to no avail...

And it seems my MP3 player was already added to the unusual_devs.h file:

/* Reported by Ian McConnell */
UNUSUAL_DEV( 0x0dda, 0x0301, 0x0012, 0x0012,
"PNP_MP3",
"PNP_MP3 PLAYER",
US_SC_DEVICE, US_PR_DEVICE, NULL,
US_FL_IGNORE_RESIDUE ),

Though I'm not really sure what the third and fourth number do. If it's
a storage class, etc the number currently listed is _probably_ wrong:

  bInterfaceClass 8 Mass Storage
  bInterfaceSubClass 6 SCSI

Anyway, I would be glad to change/test this entry, if somebody can
explain to me what those latter numbers mean.

[Bug 57122] gnome-font-viewer does not honour the '_Sample Text' attribute

2006-08-21 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
Public bug reported:

Some TrueType fonts include a _Sample Text attribute which represents a
string which can be used to displays the font in an effective manner.

Currently the following string is always used:
"The quicky brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. 0123456789"

But when the '_Sample Text' attribute is defined that string should be
used instead.

[Bug 8058] Re: grub-install hangs with xfs root/boot

2006-08-21 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
I tried this with Dapper-Alternate-6.06.1, and XFS still doesn't work
with GRUB out of the box. 'grub-install' failed.

However, the following strategy did work (on the shell):

#mount -t proc procfs /target/proc
#mount -o bind /dev /target/dev
#chroot /target /bin/bash
#source /etc/profile
# grub
grub> root (hd0,0)
grub> setup (hd0)

Now I have XFS and GRUB running just fine. I have XFS on all my
filesystems (boot, root and home).

"Sample text. This can be the font name, or any other text that the

Well it's description is rather dubious. Indeed it may be the font name.

[Bug 53413] Re: MP3 Player undetected: Integrated Circuit Solution, Inc

2006-08-23 Thread Pascal de Bruijn
Well, my previous MP3 player was detected as a Media Player and the icon
would change to a Media Player icon, instead of a Mass Storage icon.

This is quite useful, if I have both my MP3 Player and another mass
storage device attached, it helps me immediately distinguish them from
each other.
