Thanks for update Mr. Christopher M. Penalver. I did as you suggested
and installed the v3.19-rc6-vivid kernel. Sadly the problem still
exists. When you type in xinput -list the touchpad is not present and is
still not working.

No, the issue started after a clean install from scratch. I have updated
