Leigh Honeywell wrote: "Ubuntero is neutral to an anglophone, but to an hispanophone it sounds very male, so let's consider Ubuntista." then "the -ista ending is neutral in English: the person who makes fancy coffee is a barista, regardless of gender. No-one says "baristo" So -o is gender neutral in English... but is not ? and when it is, we drag Spanish in the mix ? Well if we are not going to stick to English, then take French: -ista generally sound feminine, just as much as -ero sound generally masculine... in French there is no such thing as a 'neutral' gender, so everything fall on one side of the other. this cannot be avoided. [Bug 400912] [NEW] Removing switcher applet from the panel looses configured number of rows of workspaces
Public bug reported: I normally have 6 workspaces arranged in 2 rows of 3 on my (Hardy) laptop. After each reboot (or logout, I presume) the desktop starts up with one row of 6 workspaces. I don't normally keep the workspace switcher applet in the panel, so to configure it back to the way I want it, I end up having to add the applet to the anel, reconfigure the workspace preferences, and remove the applet. The window manager in use is metacity. The problem seems to be with the fact that the only place where the number of rows is stored is the gconf registry, under the switcher applet branch. This ends up getting thrown away when I remove the applet from the panel, even though the configuration information has impact on a lot more than just the applet itself. I expect gnome to remember, across session restarts, the number of rows, once it is configured even after I kill the switcher applet to save space on the panel. ** Affects: desktop-switcher (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Removing switcher applet from the panel looses configured number of rows of workspaces https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/400912 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 60518] Re: [network-admin] /etc/resolv.conf gets clobbered when the OK button is pressed
I can confirm this as an existing problem. In my case, I used DNS Suffixes because of special circumtances. When I use Gnome-Network, it updates the /etc/resolv.conf file. Now, in my case I use DHCP and the DNS Suffixes. So, when Gnome-Network reconnects, it updates /etc/resolv.conf automatically, making my DNS Suffixes disappear. The problem lies in the fact, that Gnome-Network works together with dhcp3, where the configuration is stored in /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf. So the main problem is, that if I want to make the Gnome-Network remember my DNS Suffix settings, I have to manually update /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf, and add the following : "prepend domain-name "something.com hu.something.com blog.something.com "; (the space is at the end neccessary, otherwise the DHCP client will give the current DNS Suffix extracted from the DHCP server wrong) The solution would be, that gnome-network would update /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf in case of DHCP, and not resolv.conf. This way changes can be stored for a longer period, and would not go lost after each reconnection. -- [network-admin] /etc/resolv.conf gets clobbered when the OK button is pressed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/60518 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
