[Bug 1928997] [NEW] powerdevil occasionally stops responding until manually suspended
Public bug reported: About twice a month or so, my laptop exhibits the following symptoms: 1. Adjusting the brightness with the usual keys no longer works. 2. Closing the lid no longer suspends 3. Plugging in or unplugging no longer updates the battery charging icon. When this happens, I run this command: systemctl suspend and after opening the lid and unlocking, everything works again. Based on these symptoms and workaround, I believe this is a bug in powerdevil. I first recorded it occurring in version 5.12.7-0ubuntu0.1 in 2019, but it persists in version 5.12.8. Note that this is not a duplicate of bug #1766683: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/powerdevil/+bug/1766683 Most of the time, closing the lid does suspend my laptop, and I have lidAction=1 already set (see attached powermanagementprofilesrc). I would greatly appreciate suggestions for debugging. Currently I have tried looking at the output of: systemctl status upower.service systemctl status org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper.service acpi -V systemd-inhibit --list journalctl --boot --lines=all | grep powerdevil grep powerdevil ~/.xsession-errors as well as running strace and gdb on the powerdevil process when it is unresponsive, but I haven't turned up anything useful. (I've attached it anyway in case anyone can make use of it.) $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS Release:18.04 $ apt-cache policy powerdevil powerdevil: Installed: 4:5.12.8-0ubuntu0.1 Candidate: 4:5.12.8-0ubuntu0.1 Version table: *** 4:5.12.8-0ubuntu0.1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 4:5.12.4-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: powerdevil 4:5.12.8-0ubuntu0.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-72.80~18.04.1-generic 5.4.101 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-72-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.23 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Wed May 19 20:21:10 2021 InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-02-01 (473 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20190210) SourcePackage: powerdevil UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: powerdevil (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic ** Attachment added: "powermanagementprofilesrc" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1928997/+attachment/5498831/+files/powermanagementprofilesrc -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to powerdevil in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1928997 Title: powerdevil occasionally stops responding until manually suspended To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/powerdevil/+bug/1928997/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1824260] [NEW] wrong kerning in SS-5 PDF form fields
Public bug reported: What I expected to happen: I am filling out the SS-5 Social Security Administration form (see attached). I entered "John Jacob Smith" into the "First", "Full Middle Name", and "Last" fields on page 5. What happened instead: I can enter the text without issue, but some of the letters are wrongly positioned, i.e. the kerning is wrong. For example, the letter "i" overlaps with the letter "m" in "Smith" (see attached image). It looks like the font in the fields might be displaying a variable width font when it is supposed to be a fixed-wdith font. Discussion: Since this bug is also present in xpdf and Okular (but not mupdf), I'm guessing this isn't a bug in Evince itself. However, I am reporting it here as a courtesy to other users (since Evince is the default PDF reader) and because I'm not sure which a dependency is responsible. (I'm also not sure if it's a direct dependency problem or if it's something else like a fontconfig issue.) [Bug 1440210] Re: KWin crashes multiple times a day and often has to be restarted manually.
** Summary changed: - Who Cannot Take the Medicine? + KWin crashes multiple times a day and often has to be restarted manually. ** Description changed: I'm running Kubuntu 15.04 Beta 2 using an AMD based internal laptop graphics card (AMD R4) and fglrx (also tried fglrx-updates). - - https://usapillspharma.com/product-category/buy-tramadol-online/ KWin crashed at random moments usually while changing the volume or display brightness (Plasma 5 shows a "tooltip" if I do this). KWin goes into a state of "halted" (if I watch the process in a task manager) and won't respawn automatically. I have to restart kwin_x11 manually using a console or KRunner. In rare cases there's an error message, it says something about "DRI" (unfortunately I didn't save the crashlog) error caused by AMD's OpenGL library. Also the content of Chrome and Firefox windows get "scrambled" (especially for chrome). Firefox usually gets a "double scrollbar" (until I scroll) and in Chrome you can see the triangles used for rendering if the view is updated somewhere (it looks like shattered glass). Also if you switch to Chrome, the window content is blue for a little time after things got into state of "Now I'm messed'. Problems with Chrome stay if I restart kwin_x11 (Compositing on/off doesn't matter). It also seems that some fonts of Plasma 5 get messed up, too. I don't know if this is an error within kwin or fglrx. Upstream is here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=787633 Was closed "as no further information has been provided", so didn't make the migration to Gitlab. Potentially related upstream bugs: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/issues/261 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gvfs/issues/400 https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gtk/issues/1010 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=792331 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=792335 Potentially related bugs elsewhere: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1323079 The only workaround I've seen is "kill gvfsd-trash". I don't think anyone has been able to reliably reproduce it. [Bug 1886293] [NEW] Kwin hangs in KWin::WindowPixmap::create() / xcb_request_check
Public bug reported: After several days using the KDE Plasma desktop, I suddenly found that all of the windows had become unresponsive. I could still move the mouse, but clicking didn't do anything. I could no longer change the volume with the volume buttons. Also, the panel clock stopped ticking upward. Fortunately, I could still use the keyboard to access a tty. I would estimate this occurred roughly monthly. I still cannot consistently reproduce, and I wasn't doing anything unusual these interruptions occurred, just switching windows or typing in a textbox. This normally works from a tty: DISPLAY=:0 xdpyinfo but during these episodes it would just hang. I believe this would also hang after running and switching back to the graphical window: DISPLAY=:0 qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation But I don't recall for sure. This also hung: DISPLAY=:0 kwin --replace and showed an error: qt.qpa.screen: QXcbConnection: Could not connect to display :0 Next tried this: DISPLAY=:0 kquitapp5 plasmashell && kstart5 plasmashell Got a different error after a timeout: "Quitting application plasmashell failed. Error reported was:\n\n org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bug security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken." In a later instance, I was able to revive the system like this: kill -USR1 $(pgrep kwin_x11) DISPLAY=:0 kwin --replace I found this sufficiently convincing that is was an issue with Kwin and not another component, so I thought I should report this bug. Backtraces and strace logs are attached, as is my ~/.config/kwinrc and the output of the "qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation" when it is in a responsive state. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS Release:18.04 Kernel Version: 5.3.0-61-generic ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: kwin-x11 4:5.12.9.1-0ubuntu0.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.3.0-61.55~18.04.1-generic 5.3.18 Uname: Linux 5.3.0-61-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.15 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Sat Jul 4 16:13:00 2020 InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-02-01 (154 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20190210) SourcePackage: kwin UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: kwin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic ** Attachment added: "Output of qdbus org.kde.KWin /KWin supportInformation" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886293/+attachment/5389751/+files/qdbus_good.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kwin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886293 Title: Kwin hangs in KWin::WindowPixmap::create() / xcb_request_check To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kwin/+bug/1886293/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1946606] [NEW] thunderbird 91 does not support movemail
Public bug reported: Thunderbird 91 does not support local Unix Mailspool (Movemail) accounts. This is apparently a well-known upstream decision, but is not documented in the Ubuntu changelog for the package, and the sudden absence of a local mail account is rather jarring to experience. > remove movemail support https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1625741 https://hg.mozilla.org/comm- central/rev/931a1fb770eb9bf6d2b99c7afcf07521376a5da4 ** Affects: thunderbird (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1946606 Title: thunderbird 91 does not support movemail To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1946606/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1946821] [NEW] eog crashes on tall image
Public bug reported: eog crashes when I try to open it on this PNG file. $ eog crasher.png (eog:19783): Gdk-ERROR **: 01:44:05.714: The program 'eog' received an X Window System error. (Details: serial 456 error_code 11 request_code 130 (MIT-SHM) minor_code 5) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment variable to change this behavior. [Bug 1946606] Re: thunderbird 91 does not support movemail
I think this would be well worth mentioning in the changelog. Just to give one reason: the changes to the profile folder from the 78.x to 91.x series are irreversible. Once a profile has been opened with the 91.x series, even after re-opening with 78.x and --allow-downgrade the local mail account is unreadable. As best I can tell, the mail isn't actually deleted, it's just invisible to the profile configuration, but you can't get it back without potentially corrupting the entire profile. Moreover, at some point in the 78.x series setting up a new movemail account became impossible, so the most expedient recovery method is unavailable. This means users with a Thunderbird movemail account will permanently lose access to that account unless they have a full profile backup to restore from. I think most folks would agree this counts as a regression that has the potential to result in data loss. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1946606 Title: thunderbird 91 does not support movemail To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1946606/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
