[Bug 252094] Re: MASTER: Poor graphics performance on Intel

2009-05-24 Thread NB
After I followed this HOW TO, I'm getting good performances:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582
On my case (I'm using a 945) I had to upgrate the kernel to 2.6.30 rc

[Bug 252094] Re: MASTER: Poor graphics performance on Intel

2009-05-24 Thread NB
@bouazza: I means that Tux Racer now runs at 25-35 FPS instead of 1-2 in
Jaunty. Just by adding UXA it was only 10-25 FPS. I followed ALL the
"Bleeding-Edge Configuration" steps in the guide, else the performances was
almost unchanged; but the configuration and the result may depend on your
graphic card.
In default Jaunty some games under Wine are unplayable: even enabling UXA
didn't help. Of course I don't mean to play current 3D Windows games on a
little i945 and I don't expect to get the same performances under Wine. Anyway
that guide made them playable again. I don't remember the exact Wine
performances on Hardy, but Jaunty with this changes seem faster. Tux Racer is
faster for sure (it was around 15 FPS). Compiz effects are no longer choppy and
the 2D is also OK (it don't looks slower than Windows), so I no longer miss
Hardy.

[Bug 252094] Re: MASTER: Poor graphics performance on Intel

2009-05-25 Thread NB
I would call a 4-6X improvement an HUGE improvement. However it was Jaunty (and
Intrepid) that showed a big drop in performances, so with that guide I can use
Compiz and some Wine games again as I did on Hardy. And that is why people
compare Jaunty to Hardy. The modified Jaunty performs better than Hardy on my
hardware: Extreme Tux Racer is 2 times faster as I said before, so there is an
improvement. But you are right: Hardy was slow, compared to Windows and there
is still room for more improvements. I'm not saying I'm totally satisfied.
I'm not sure if I can directly compare Exrteme Tux Racer to the Windows port,
anyway Extreme Tux Racer for Windows hits 50-60 FPS, a lot more than that
"Bleeding-Edge Configuration" for Jaunty.

[Bug 219629] Re: Oversized Text in Kubuntu Hardy KDE4 Live CD

[Bug 219629] Re: Oversized Text in Kubuntu Hardy KDE4 Live CD

2009-03-28 Thread NB
Here it is. But since Kubuntu on the LiveCD was unusable as afore
mentioned, I had to copy the file in some other way. Of course it was
also impossible to use the file manager to copy the file somewhere. So I
switched to a text console (Ctrl+Alt+F1), because I know some basic
commands (cp and such). Then I plugged in an USB flash disk, but Kubuntu
doesn't automount it, differently from Ubuntu: Kubuntu LiveCD requires
that you click on a dialog window, but it was impossible with these huge
fonts, and I don't know how to mount it from the command line.

Eventually I started the LiveCD again, but with "safe graphic settings":
this is the Xorg.0.log from there, and I hope it's OK.

[Bug 353074] [NEW] Huge font size in Kubuntu Live CD (9.04 Jaunty beta)

2009-04-01 Thread NB
Public bug reported:

Tested release: Kubuntu 9.04 Beta, Live CD.
Hardware: Packard Bell EasyNote MX45-211 (Intel 945GM/GMS)
http://support.packardbell.com/it/item/index.php?pn=PB64H00706&g=1400

After the boot, KDE displays all the text extremely oversized and this
makes KDE unusable. I experienced the same behavior on Kubuntu 8.04 and
8.10 Live CD. A similar behavior is reported as bug #219629, but my
monitor could be different, so I'm filing a new bug report as suggested
there.

I'm attaching the Xorg.0.log file. I also credit Tormod Volden who found
the following lines inside that file:

Definetly better. Even better would be to have a small script displaying
a "dialog" msg telling users about the new packaging, inviting them
explicitely to install other packages in order to have no regression.

Is there a work around for me?

RE: I'm also assuming a firmware bug here, but I need to consult the

Is there a way we can verify that the firmware is the true issue? I have

[Bug 1591226] [NEW] ch341 usb serial converter kernel driver parity patch missing

2016-06-10 Thread NB
Public bug reported:

I have several pieces of this cheap Chinese USB2serial port converter,
which uses ch341.ko kernel module.

By default / fault, the parity function of this chip is not implemented in the
kernel driver.
This causes that the converter is UNUSABLE on ubuntu linux 14.04 (latest
updates installed, default kernel, current version 3.13.0-88-generic)
There is a fix for that, applying that patch makes it work as it should be.

All current ubuntu kernels miss this patch:
http://blog.xentoo.info/2015/12/31/ubuntu-14-04-and-usb-to-serial-ch341-chinese-device-from-ebay/

I have to recompile the kernel module ch341.ko every time when new kernel
version is installed.
It seems to me while googling this, that somehow this fix haven't got into
mainstream kernel.

Please include this patch to all ubuntu kernel versions!
Thank you!

[Bug 1591226] Re: ch341 usb serial converter kernel driver parity patch missing

2016-06-13 Thread NB
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected trusty

** Description changed:

I have several pieces of this cheap Chinese USB2serial port converter,
  which uses ch341.ko kernel module.

By default / fault, the parity function of this chip is not implemented in
the kernel driver.
This causes that the converter is UNUSABLE on ubuntu linux 14.04 (latest
updates installed, default kernel, current version 3.13.0-88-generic)
There is a fix for that, applying that patch makes it work as it should be.

All current ubuntu kernels miss this patch:

http://blog.xentoo.info/2015/12/31/ubuntu-14-04-and-usb-to-serial-ch341-chinese-device-from-ebay/

I have to recompile the kernel module ch341.ko every time when new kernel
version is installed.
It seems to me while googling this, that somehow this fix haven't got into
mainstream kernel.

Please include this patch to all ubuntu kernel versions!
  Thank you!

Re: [Bug 1591226] Re: ch341 usb serial converter kernel driver parity patch missing

2016-06-13 Thread NB
Dear Joseph,

I have no idea about the patch/fix kernel team / process, etc.
I'm just a regular user of linux since 20 years ;)
I googled the problem, found a fix and asking ubuntu to include this fix in
its kernel.
Don't ask me to open another ticket at another system. I don't care. Too
much effort. This should work by default in 2016.
I might just buy another type of this thing, that's easier ;)

[Bug 2083713] [NEW] Thunderbolt 4 Hotplug Issue

2024-10-04 Thread nb
Public bug reported:

I have a long askubuntu thread here:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1521367/i-think-my-problem-is-
thunderbolt

Basically, I am only able to get my Anker 556 USB4 hub to work in the following
conditions:
- linux-image-6.5.0-1020-oem
- USB4 hub is plugged in before cold boot

Any time I hotplug the hub, it fails to get loaded. udev shows it
getting added and removed. syslog shows it getting loaded and
recognized, but then removed. tbtools and boltctl don't recognize it
unless the system was booted with the hub plugged in.

I'm not sure where else to go from here :(

I have no idea WHAT this bug report is conveying to me.
Also, the linked duplicate bug 1726084 is defunct.
