[Bug 252628] [NEW] MCC changes bootup theme to mythbuntu even if "change theme is unselected"
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mythbuntu-control-centre In early July, I used MCC on a freshly installed Edubuntu 8.04.1 system to add a mythtv front-end. When clicking "Apply" to add the front-end functionality, it says that it is going to install some theme stuff in addition to the front-end itself, even though I had the "change theme" unselected (which BTW, is confusingly on a different MCC tab). Turns out that it didn't change the theme of the desktop itself, but DID install and overwite the bootup theme to the black & white mythbuntu theme. MCC was installed from -fixes repo in early July. ** Affects: mythbuntu-control-centre (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- MCC changes bootup theme to mythbuntu even if "change theme is unselected" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252628 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 379500] Re: cronjob for mythtv-status send's me many mails after upgrade to jaunty
Googling your error message results in the following hit: http://v2kblog.blogspot.com/2009/05/upgrading-mythbuntu-from-810-to-904.html which suggests the following work-around. Could you back up the below mentioned files and then try this solution? This problem was caused by two cron jobs both trying to modify /etc/motd at the same time (every 10 minutes)! The update-motd cron job moves /var/run/motd.new out from underneath the mythtv-status job. You can see the two jobs in /etc/cron.d: # grep 10 /etc/cron.d/mythtv-status /etc/cron.d/update-motd /etc/cron.d/mythtv-status:*/10 * * * * root [ -x /etc/init.d/mythtv-status ] && /etc/init.d/mythtv-status reload > /dev/null /etc/cron.d/update-motd:*/10 * * * * root [ -x /usr/sbin/update-motd ] && /usr/sbin/update-motd 2>/dev/null I believe what should really be happening is myth-status should be run by update-motd every 10 minutes instead of independently. [Bug 302919] Re: Please add dm140 driver
I see that lcdproc 0.5.3 is being readied for release upstream. I assume it supports this device? It is rare that Mythbuntu (or Ubuntu in general) makes patches and releases items between the normal 9.04 and 9.10 release though, so you may just have to use a PPA or compile it yourself until then. [Bug 216432] Re: [8.04] Mythtv retunes when beginning recording on channel
Howdy! Thanks for your report. I've noticed this behavior and thought it was strange at first as well, but then decided that retuning is the safe thing to do for a number of cases - especially when an external set-top-box is involved. There is no way for Myth to know that a STB has been power cycled, or the baby sitter changed the channel on it. So for sure, the retune shouldn't be eliminated, but perhaps an option could be added to prevent it for users that desire - making this a feature request rather than a formal bug. Anyway, if you don't get much output, you might try 8.10 alpha or beta before putting much more time into it. More remotes are supported in the new kernel, and the code has changed considerably from 8.04 (so you won't get much support on that). [Bug 254477] [NEW] update-manager usability: Remove "Update is complete" wording
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager Running 8.04.1: If an update fails (for example, due to Bug #105113), after update-manager is done running, the window it pops up has less than ideal wording: In large print it says "Upgrade is complete", but then the small print says "not all changes and updates succeeded. For further details...expand the panel below". The problem is that it it could lead to user confusion. Saying that something is "complete" often carries with it the implication that there were no problems. It would be much clearer if the large "Upgrade is complete" text was removed altogether and the "not all changes and updates succeeded" text became the main message for the user. $ apt-cache policy update-manager update-manager: Installed: 1:0.87.27 Candidate: 1:0.87.27 Version table: *** 1:0.87.27 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- update-manager usability: Remove "Update is complete" wording https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254477 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 254480] [NEW] Update-manager marks upgrades as completed even if they aren't
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager After running out of disk space on /boot in the middle of an upgrade (due to Bug #105113), I noticed that update-manager marks all packages as upgraded, even if some failed. The problem is that even *IF* the user studies the log output and fixes the problem (in my case, finds the "No space left on device" message that is hidden in the detail logs), update-manager provides them no way to reattempt the upgrade; when they go into update-manager later, the failing package(s) are no longer listed as needing to be installed. Not only does this mean they have to open a shell and do it manually after fixing the problem (in this case, clearing some disk space), but could allow the user to forget to "finish" the upgrade, or worse, misled the user into thinking the upgrade actually did complete because it is not listed in the upgrade-manager queue. This is easy to reproduce: make sure the /boot partition doesn't quite have enough space for a new kernel, and then attempt to upgrade the kernel. When it fails, simply delete files so that it has enough space, and then use aptitude or apt-get to install. Running 8.04.1, and $ apt-cache policy update-manager update-manager: Installed: 1:0.87.27 Candidate: 1:0.87.27 Version table: *** 1:0.87.27 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status I've also submitted Bug #254477 on potentially confusing feedback to the user when upgrades fail. ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Update-manager marks upgrades as completed even if they aren't https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254480 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 288816] Re: Very unreliable DVD playback
The team understands how big an impact this is on some users and installs, but to provide some background and hopefully head off a bunch of "me-too" responses, upstream already investigated this issue and unfortunately was not able to discover the source of the problem. It appears to have been fixed on the trunk by a ffmpeg resync, which is quite massive (http://svn.mythtv.org/trac/changeset/18904 lists SOME, but not all, of the files impacted) and would be too disruptive to apply to the -fixes branch. In summary, unless else someone volunteers to dig deeper into the bug and creates a patch, there aren't any resources to find and fix this on the -fixes branch. If someone could find a stand-alone player that works, a possible work-around might be to configure and use an external player (http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/MythVideo#External_Player_Configuration). If the player(s) installed by default don't work and you're a bit more adventuresome, you might try manually updating to the latest version of your favorite player(s). Thank you for keeping any further replies to this bug to a technical nature (either code/patch discussions, or external player configurations that work)! ** Changed in: mythbuntu Importance: Undecided => High -- Very unreliable DVD playback https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288816 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
