[Bug 566607] [NEW] 'Software Sources' allows changing 3rd party repos lines to duplicate official repos URLs, and parses the user-input URL with higher priority in 'apt-get update'.

2010-04-19 Thread Jonathan Yip
Public bug reported:

If, by mistake or otherwise, a user edits a 3rd party repos line in
Software Sources and point the URL towards an official repos, e.g.
, Software Sources will accept the
input, recognise the new repos line as part of the official repos, and
fail to allow the user to revert the changes via the Software Sources
GUI.

The problem here is that most 3rd party repos use and
tags under their directories, whereas the official repos use the
division. Software Sources
can only handle these four tags in its 'Ubuntu Software' tab. When
changing a 3rd party line's URL into an official repos URL any reloading
of the apt repository list will result in, if previously the 3rd party
repos line included the or or whatever tags, a 'Meta-
index file (malformed Release file?)' error, thus:

W: Failed to fetch
http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/karmic/Release Unable to find
expected entry free/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed
Release file?)

Note that such manually added lines of repository lists overrides the
default official repos lines. And Software Sources allows this.

Note that the problem is that Software Sources accepts such
modifications to 3rd party repos lines listed in its 'Other Software'
tab. And the only method of reverting such mistake is digging into the
directory manually, since Software Sources is
unable to handle tags other than
if a repos line points towards an official repository.

[Bug 966772] Re: Please update gnome-documents to 0.4.0.1

2012-03-31 Thread Jonathan Yip
The current version of gnome-documents shipped with Precise, 0.3.4,
doesn't provide the ShellSearchProvider DBus service that is introduced
in 0.3.90. Gnome-shell 3.4, which is shipped with Precise, relies on
this to provide files results in overview because the gtk-recent-
document search backend is removed. If we don't update gnome-documents
to at least 0.3.90 in Precise then users will have only applications and
nautilus bookmarks shown in their gnome shell overview search.

[Bug 1971232] [NEW] [Dell XPS 8940] [ALC3861] No audio from headset mic when plugged into front panel jack, works under Windows

2022-05-02 Thread Jonathan Yip
Public bug reported:

There is no audio coming from the headset mic when plugged into the
front panel headset jack (bog standard wired headphones with mic, Sony
MDR-EX15AP). Upon plugging in Gnome should offer a choice of "Headset"
amongst others, but the only ones available are "Headphones" and
"Microphone", neither of which enables the mic on the headset. The same
headset works under Windows, so it shouldn't be an issue of mismatching
TRRS.

I'm happy to provide any further details if needed.

[Bug 1864215] Re: Please add webp loader to gdk-pixbuf

2022-03-09 Thread Jonathan Yip
In case you don't want to wait for aruiz's loader to be packaged in Debian (and
then trickled down to Ubuntu), here's a PPA:
https://code.launchpad.net/~helkaluin/+archive/ubuntu/webp-pixbuf-loader
