[Bug 1288747] Re: [334] Parts of the UI randomly flicker when moving the mouse

2014-05-21 Thread John Murray
Commenting here to keep this bug alive, as it is incredibly frustrating.

This happens to me with driver version >331.67. FWIW, I'm using a
GTX770.

Looks like the mutter bug
(https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=728464) is almost fixed and
the patches are pretty close to being accepted.

[Bug 1072206] Re: [nvidia] Window content is black or transparent

2014-05-21 Thread John Murray
Commenting here to keep this bug alive... Very annoying.

Happens to me frequently, especially when switching to a minimized
window, or one that is below another window.

Using GTX770 with the 331.67 drivers, but also happened with my GTX560
Ti, and with every driver version I can remember, ever since 12.10 +.

[Bug 986831] Re: system freezes for some seconds: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

2013-09-15 Thread John Murray
This occurs for me pretty much whenever I leave for awhile, come back, and
within first 30 seconds of returning (starting to use my computer again), X
will freeze. Only way to get out of it that I have found is using Alt + SysRq +
REISUB. Checking syslog after it boots again, I always have "NVRM: os_schedule:
Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context".
I very recently upgraded from a GTX 560 Ti to a GTX 770, and that's when this
started happening. I never had this issue with my GTX 560 Ti. However, I do
remember having this problem on the first gen aluminum iMac, with a 9800 I
believe. I could never use the Nvidia drivers on it because of this, though the
Nouveau drivers worked fine.

Current setup:
Linux 3.10
Ubuntu 13.10
GTX 770
Version 325.15 of the Nvidia drivers

2014-06-04 Thread John Murray
Seems to be working for me as well, thank you @townsend!

@jimmy93 the black window bug is most likely
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1072206, which is
two years old and incredibly annoying...

[Bug 1288747] Re: [334] Parts of the UI randomly flicker when moving the mouse

2014-06-11 Thread John Murray
@Christopher, I didn't see it happening for the first couple days. I had
rebooted previously. I'm currently doing some dev work on windows but
when I boot back into Linux I'll get that output.

Thanks!

[Bug 1190146] Re: [needs-packaging] nightingale

2014-06-23 Thread John Murray
Martin, I haven't pushed this to the ng-deps repo yet, but:
https://github.com/johnmurrayvi/nightingale-
deps/commit/b6279339c472bb0dff15cd3158567f3b9945cee4

I was going to try to add in changes mentioned by darealshinji in
https://github.com/nightingale-media-player/nightingale-deps/issues/18
first, but I've gotten caught up in this windows issue.

There are some dependency packages in the second link that have some
improvements.

@Emanuel I've been working on building an updated version of Nightingale
that uses updated dependencies for a over year now. There are a lot of
other issues to worry about besides using what's available in the Debian
or Ubuntu repositories, unfortunately, and the build system is already
incredibly complex, particularly for the dependencies. One of the
primary problems with focusing on this issue is that Nightingale
supports Mac and Windows. A number of the other problems, like using
native TagLib and SQLite, come from the application itself previously
relying on the patched dependencies, and the limited time and resources
the development team has to allocate, prevent a quicker resolution to
this.

It sadly won't be an overnight fix, but believe me, I would love to have
this in the Debian and Ubuntu repos too!

[Bug 1288747] Re: [334] Parts of the UI randomly flicker when moving the mouse

2014-06-13 Thread John Murray
It doesn't seem to appear immediately, but once it happens, it starts
happening consistently. It stops when I switch windows. I'm currently on
the 337.25 drivers with a GTX 770.

X, or something, is definitely having some issues it seems like, as my
system has locked up twice in the past two hours. I've been able to ssh
in and do a "killall5", which has worked both times luckily.

I'm about to install the 340.17 drivers, and update the rest of my
packages because it's been a few days since I've been able to. Hoping
one of the updates has to do with the freezes.

[Bug 1288747] Re: [334] Parts of the UI randomly flicker when moving the mouse

2014-06-17 Thread John Murray
I had numerous more freezes after my last post. I removed the testing
ppa and updated to the 340.17 drivers. No freezes yet, but the
flickering is back, obviously.
