[Bug 1424418] Re: Work area files mistakenly included in orig tarball

2015-04-03 Thread Jerome St-Louis
I was hoping it would be fixed ASAP.
The issue is the source package contains private settings.

Of course it all depends on how much trouble it is to update the package
and how much time is available at this point in the release schedule.

Thanks,

Jerome

2014-08-19 Thread Jerome St-Louis
I upgraded my laptop (amd64) to Utopic, and it builds fine there with
debuild.

Also setup a pbuilder (pbuilder-dist utopic amd64 create) and that builds fine
as well?
Really not sure what's going ?

I used the packages from http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/e
/ecere-sdk/ though rather than applying the .debdiff could that have
something to do with it?

[Bug 1358572] Re: Update to Ecere SDK 0.44.10 (Major milestone, many usability fixes)

2014-08-19 Thread Jerome St-Louis
For informational purposes:

These are the rules that should copy over the libEcereAudio:

https://github.com/ecere/ecere-
sdk/blob/ppa/debian/debian/libecereaudio0.install

It should have been installed from obj/linux/lib/ into /usr/lib/x86_64
-linux-gnu/ec/

And it should be built within audio/obj/release/linux/ when it's saying
'Building EcereAudio...'
before being copied over to obj/linux/lib

LIBDIR should have the value of lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ on AMD64...

Not sure if somehow ECERE_AUDIO is not being set to 'y' during install
only? As it seems to be set during the build...

https://github.com/ecere/ecere-sdk/blob/master/Makefile

This is the main Makefile with all the install rules.

TARGET_PLATFORM is set within https://github.com/ecere/ecere-
sdk/blob/master/crossplatform.mk

Also note that this all builds fine on the Launchpad PPA:

https://code.launchpad.net/~ecere-
team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+recipebuild/773485

[Bug 1266572] Re: gtk-window-decorator crashes randomly

2014-02-08 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Here is a callstack through Valgrind.

The crash happens right away on a gtk-window-decorator restart once I
get it if I leave the app causing the problem on.

Sounds like a type mismatch on a drawable?

[Bug 1107755] [NEW] Loading BMP files with Ecere does not work

2013-01-28 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Public bug reported:

BMP support is broken in libecere due to the way GCC 4.7 now packs structs by
default.
This has been fixed by automatically adding __attribute__ ((gcc_struct)) to
structs in the code generated by the eC compiler.

[Test Case]
Open up a .bmp file in the Ecere IDE

[Regression Potential]
This could potentially affect all applications built with the eC compiler, but
reverts to the behavior to that of GCC versions < 4.6 found in Precise
regarding struct padding, which was expected in eC/Ecere applications.

[Bug 1107774] [NEW] [SRU] The Ecere SDK is uninstallable on Quantal/64 bit

2013-01-28 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Public bug reported:

Users on a 64 bit version of Quantal cannot install the Ecere SDK
Issues in the control files regarding Architecture: all packages and font
package dependency prevent installation.
The problem has been solved in Debian, by properly following the Multi-Arch
guidelines:
   - The dependency on fonts-freefont-ttf is now a 'Recommended' instead of
'Depends'
   - The Ecere architecture: all packages were marked as Multi-Arch: foreign
   - The Libraries were marked as Multi-Arch: same
   - Libraries are now always put in /usr/lib/$(DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH)

[Test Case]
Simply trying to install the sdk on an amd64 installation of Quantal will give
you errors:

sudo apt-get install ecere-sdk

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 ecere-sdk:i386 : Depends: ecere-dev:i386 but it is not going to be installed
  Depends: ecere-smples:i386 but it is not installable
  Depends: ecere-extras:i386 but it is not installable

[Regression Potential]
This package should not cause any regression issue, as its impact is limited to
a previously uninstallable package.

[Bug 1107827] [NEW] [SRU] Compiling some specific eC results in undefined behavior (corrupted memory)

2013-01-28 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Public bug reported:

Compiling some specific eC results in undefined behavior after memory has been
corrupted.
The Specifier class in the eC compiler library contains a union whose members
were used in alternate manner, without proper reinitialization.

[Test Case]
The eC compiler will crash or produce unexpected behavior when compiling some
specific eC code [need to remember/dig that code out].

[Regression Potential]
This is a clean fix that simply re-initializes to all members of the union, so
as to avoid the problem. It should not break anything.

[Bug 1107852] [NEW] [SRU] Valgrind complains about Uninitialized Memory Read in Ecere FileDialog

2013-01-28 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Public bug reported:

Valgrind complains about Uninitialized Memory Read in Ecere FileDialog

And if statement was badly written, and has been reordered to solved the
issue.

[Test Case]
Run an Ecere application with a FileDialog (e.g. the Ecere IDE) in Valgrind,
and bring up the FileDialog.

[Regression Potential]
This is a very trivial and safe fix, the if conditions have been reordered so
that lazy evaluation prevents the UMR.

[Bug 1107844] [NEW] [SRU] Valgrind complains about uninitialized value when building eC source

2013-01-28 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Public bug reported:

Valgrind complains about conditional jumps based on uninitialized value
when building eC source

The root of the problem was in the virtual method table for eC objects.
The logic has been re-evaluated and code fixed accordingly.

[Test Case]
Build eC source code exhibiting this problem through Valgrind.
Upon class registration the problem will appear.

[Regression Potential]
The dynamic class inheritance logic is quite complex, and so it is easy to go
wrong.
However this fix has been improved and tested over a few months and with
several different projects and scenarios, and has proven to be solid.
This could only affect eC applications.

[Bug 1107864] [NEW] [SRU] The eC compiler and IDE crashed on buffer overflows

2013-01-28 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Public bug reported:

The eC compiler and IDE crashed on buffer overflows.
These included:
   - The GCC command for preprocessing in ecp and ecc
   - The communication with integrated GDB
   - Opening in the Code Editor a file specifying a text property containing a
long string of text
   - Using a very long set of command line arguments (Project
Settings/Workspace)

[Test Case]
   - Run ecp or ecp with a lot of arguments to be passed down to GCC for
processing ( e.g. a lot of -I/usr/include/long/paths )
   - Cause a long (>1024 chars) GDB command to be issued (e.g. add a very long
identifier expression to the Watch window)
   - Open up ide/src/about.ec in the IDE
   - Set up a very long set of command line arguments (Project
Settings/Workspace)

[Regression Potential]
Since the size for these buffers have either be increased, or they have been
replaced by dynamic buffer, things should work better. Nothing should be
negatively affected.
It might still possible to reproduce some of these which much bigger strings
for the GCC preprocessing command and the communication with GDB: for these the
buffer has been increased from 1024 to 3075 characters until we have a safer
solution.

[Bug 1107868] [NEW] [SRU] A mutex remained unlocked in eC applications inheriting GuiApplication but not initializing the interface system

2013-01-28 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Public bug reported:

A mutex remained unlocked in eC applications inheriting GuiApplication
but not initializing the interface system.

This was the case in ear. The Release() call was in the GuiApplication
destructor, whereas the first Wait() is inside the Initialize() method,
which is not necessarily going to be called.

[Test Case]
Run the ear executable with debugging code added to the Mutex class to notice
the GuiApplication's lockMutex was being waited on but never released on exit.

[Regression Potential]
This is a safe fix which has no potential for regression.

[Bug 1107874] [NEW] [SRU] When using different fonts attributes for same face, fonts get missed up in Ecere

2013-01-28 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Public bug reported:

Fonts get wrong transform and kerning when using different attributes
for the same face.

[Test Case]
Notice how the following code has the T displaying over the e

import "ecere"

class Form1 : Window
{
   caption = "Form1";
   background = activeBorder;
   borderStyle = sizable;
   hasMaximize = true;
   hasMinimize = true;
   hasClose = true;
   clientSize = { 632, 438 };

   Label label1 { this, caption = "Test", font = { "Arial", 12 }, position = {
128, 88 } };
   Label label2 { this, caption = "Test", font = { "Arial", 64 }, position = {
120, 168 } };
}

Form1 form1 {};

[Regression Potential]
The Font objects of the same face share the FreeType object, and must reset
these attributes when re-rendering the font or re-computing kernings between 2
characters. The fix required invoking FreeType to change these attributes.
Everything seemded to be working fine.

[Bug 1107879] [NEW] [SRU] The color selection drop box no longer displays the color

2013-01-28 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Public bug reported:

The color box within the color selection drop box is no longer working.

Changes to the DataBox would no longer have the color being rendered.

[Test Case]
Create a new project with a default form in the IDE
Switch to Properties (F4)
Notice how the Foreground and Background properties do not show the color when
the drop box is selected (row is active).

[Regression Potential]
This was fixed by still invoking the data type OnDisplay() method if the custom
data editor leaves room at the left of it (as the ColorDropBox does). It should
not have affect any other data display. At worst, things would get rendered
twice, possibly with a slight unwanted offset.

[Bug 1107888] [NEW] [SRU] The Debugger breakpoints do not work consistently

2013-01-28 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Public bug reported:

The Debugger breakpoints do not work consistently:
While debugging, the breakpoints line numbers are lost and become 0, so as not
to work properly the next time the project is opened.
It was also noted that the C line numbers (for code that does not have
corresponding eC line number) in generated C files were wrong.

[Test Case]
Create a project with a breakpoint
Run the project to the breakpoint, step over
Notice in the Breakpoint windows that the line numbers became 0
Terminate the program
Close the IDE
Reopen the IDE
Notice that the breakpoint no longer work

[Regression Potential]
Since the Tokenizing and Quote stripping functions had to be changed to
properly parse items, this could negatively affect the debugger communication
protocol. However things were tested and working fine.

Public bug reported:

The HTTP support does not work well:
- Trying to reuse a connection jams until a connection times out instead of
actually reusing it
- Bigger files do not download properly

[Test Case]
- Query multiple files from the same server and note the long delay in between
- Open a large file from a server in the IDE (e.g.

[Bug 1107755] Re: [SRU] Loading BMP files with Ecere does not work

2013-01-28 Thread Jerome St-Louis
It turned out that this problem never affected Quantal.
I dreamed about this from assumptions.

The GCC 4.7 change only affected MinGW targets, which adopted -mms-
bitfields by default.

[Bug 1107864] Re: [SRU] The eC compiler and IDE crashed on buffer overflows

2013-01-29 Thread Jerome St-Louis
** Description changed:

  The eC compiler and IDE crashed on buffer overflows.
  These included:
-- The GCC command for preprocessing in ecp and ecc
-- The communication with integrated GDB
-- Opening in the Code Editor a file specifying a text property containing
a long string of text
-- Using a very long set of command line arguments (Project
Settings/Workspace)

processing ( e.g. a lot of -I/usr/include/long/paths )

long identifier expression to the Watch window)

  [Regression Potential]
- Since the size for these buffers have either be increased, or they have been
replaced by dynamic buffer, things should work better. Nothing should be
negatively affected.

  It might still possible to reproduce some of these which much bigger strings
for the GCC preprocessing command and the communication with GDB: for these the
buffer has been increased from 1024 to 3075 characters until we have a safer
solution.

[Bug 1107844] Re: [SRU] Valgrind complains about uninitialized value when running the IDE

** Summary changed:

- [SRU] Valgrind complains about uninitialized value when running the IDE
+ [SRU] Valgrind complains about conditonal jumps depending on uninitialized
value when running the IDE

** Description changed:

  The root of the problem was in the virtual method table for eC objects.
  The logic has been re-evaluated and code fixed accordingly.

  [Test Case]
- Build eC source code exhibiting this problem through Valgrind.
- Upon class registration the problem will appear.

  [Regression Potential]
  The dynamic class inheritance logic is quite complex, and so it is easy to go
wrong.
  However this fix has been improved and tested over a few months and with
several different projects and scenarios, and has proven to be solid.
  This could only affect eC applications.

[Bug 1107888] Re: [SRU] The Debugger breakpoints do not work consistently

** Description changed:

  The Debugger breakpoints do not work consistently:
  While debugging, the breakpoints line numbers are lost and become 0, so as
not to work properly the next time the project is opened.
  It was also noted that the C line numbers (for code that does not have
corresponding eC line number) in generated C files were wrong.

  Close the IDE
  Reopen the IDE
  Notice that the breakpoint no longer work

  [Regression Potential]
- Since the Tokenizing and Quote stripping functions had to be changed to
properly parse items, this could negatively affect the debugger communication
protocol. However things were tested and working fine.

[Bug 1107844] Re: [SRU] Valgrind complains about conditonal jumps depending on uninitialized value when running the IDE

2013-01-30 Thread Jerome St-Louis
** Description changed:

  Valgrind complains about conditional jumps based on uninitialized value
  on the IDE

  The root of the problem was in the virtual method table for eC objects.
  The logic has been re-evaluated and code fixed accordingly.

  [Test Case]
  Run the IDE through valgrind, and notice the following:

  [Regression Potential]
  The dynamic class inheritance logic is quite complex, and so it is easy to go
wrong.
  However this fix has been improved and tested over a few months and with
several different projects and scenarios, and has proven to be solid.
  This could only affect eC applications.

[Bug 1107827] Re: [SRU] A serious potential for undefined behavior was identified

2013-01-30 Thread Jerome St-Louis
** Description changed:

- Compiling some specific eC results in undefined behavior after memory has
been corrupted.
- The Specifier class in the eC compiler library contains a union whose members
were used in alternate manner, without proper reinitialization.
+ A serious potential for undefined behavior was identified in the eC
+ compiler.
+
+ Although I've not been able to reproduce the problem with the current
+ state of the Specifier class, the problem manifests itself as soon as
+ the layout of that class is slightly modified.
+
+ The Specifier class in the eC compiler library contains a union whose
+ members were used in alternate manner, without proper re-initialization.

  [Test Case]
- The eC compiler will crash or produce unexpected behavior when compiling some
specific eC code [need to remember/dig that code out].
+ To reproduce the problem, add a 'void * dummy' member to the Specifier class,
in sdk/compiler/libec/src/ecdefs.ec, inside the union, and inside the struct,
right before 'char * name', so that it looks like:
+
+ public class Specifier : struct
+ {
+ public:
+Specifier prev, next;
+Location loc;
+SpecifierType type;
+union
+{
+   int specifier;
+   struct
+   {
+ >>>  void * dummy;  <<<
+  char * name;
+ ...
+
+ The compiler will then be totally broken, crashing compiling any file.
+ With the fix, adding the 'dummy' member there will not cause any problem.
+
+ The first and second structs of the union conflict with each other without
being reinitialized properly. The first is used for when type is
'nameSpecifier', while the second is used when type is 'structSpecifier'. A
Specifier is morphed from a nameSpecifier into a structSpecifier during the
pass 3 of the compiler, and so this is problematic.
+ It seems the problem is more evident when 'templateArgs' maps to
'definitions', rather than 'baseSpecs' as was the case in Quantal. However
since there is a potential for bad behavior due to the overlap between
templateArgs and baseSpecs, this should be fixed.

  [Regression Potential]
  This is a clean fix that simply re-initializes to all members of the union,
so as to avoid the problem. It should not break anything.

[Bug 1110284] [NEW] [SRU (Quantal)] Makefiles generated by the Ecere IDE do not work by themselves

2013-01-30 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Public bug reported:

The makefiles generated by the IDE are not usable on their own.
They rely on an undefined CF_DIR environment variable.

[Test Case]
Open a project in the Ecere IDE, and build it, this will automatically generate
a makefile for it.

Try to build it from the commandline, e.g.:

jerome@quantal:~/sdk/samples/eC/HelloWorld$ make -f HelloWorld-Debug.Makefile
HelloWorld-Debug.Makefile:35: crossplatform.mk: No such file or directory
HelloWorld-Debug.Makefile:36: -default.cf: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target `-default.cf'. Stop.

[Regression Potential]
The fix makes the makefiles usable on their own, as they are supposed to be.
The customizable configuration directory was recently added but the environment
variable is only meant to be used in certain circumstances.

[Bug 1107868] Re: [SRU] A mutex remained unlocked in eC applications inheriting GuiApplication but not initializing the interface system

2013-01-30 Thread Jerome St-Louis
** Description changed:

- A mutex remained unlocked in eC applications inheriting GuiApplication
- but not initializing the interface system.
+ A mutex was being unlocked without having ever been locked in eC
+ applications inheriting from GuiApplication but not initializing the
+ interface system.

  This was the case in ear. The Release() call was in the GuiApplication
  destructor, whereas the first Wait() is inside the Initialize() method,
  which is not necessarily going to be called.

  [Test Case]
- Run the ear executable with debugging code added to the Mutex class to notice
the GuiApplication's lockMutex was being waited on but never released on exit.
+ Run the ear executable with debugging code added to the Mutex class to notice
the GuiApplication's lockMutex was being released on exit but never waited on.

[Bug 1107879] Re: [SRU] The color selection drop box no longer displays the color

2013-01-30 Thread Jerome St-Louis
** Description changed:

  The color box within the color selection drop box is no longer working.

  Changes to the DataBox would no longer have the color being rendered.

  [Test Case]
  Create a new project with a default form in the IDE
  Switch to Properties (F4)
- Notice how the Foreground and Background properties do not show the color
when the drop box is selected (row is active).
+ Notice how the Foreground and Background properties do not show the color
when the drop box is selected (row is active). (In fact, the 'selected row'
color (some slate blue) shows through where the color box used to be, and can
be confused for the color, which makes this bug even more annoying).

  [Regression Potential]
  This was fixed by still invoking the data type OnDisplay() method if the
custom data editor leaves room at the left of it (as the ColorDropBox does). It
should not have affect any other data display. At worst, things would get
rendered twice, possibly with a slight unwanted offset.

[Bug 394998] Re: [FFe] Please sync ecere-sdk 0.44.01-1 from Debian Experimental

2012-09-29 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Release team, I was really hoping the Ecere SDK would make it into
Quantal, but we went through the Debian path...

It was mentionned to me before on #ubuntu-motu that going through Debian
would be a valid reason for a Feature Freeze Exception, so I'm wishing
it can happen!

The Ecere SDK is an awesome compact package letting you write modern
fast native object oriented code, with its own cross-platform light GUI
toolkit, and as a new package it should not break anything :)

Many thanks!

-Jerome

[Bug 394998] Re: [needs-packaging] ecere-sdk -- cross-platform developer toolkit

2012-08-14 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Many thanks Dmitrijs for reviewing the package and getting the ball
rolling!

I believe I have addressed most if not all of the faults.

I attach to the upstream version, 0.44.01 to this message.

This should build on Quantal in 32 bit, verified on an i386.
We do not have support for 64 bit yet ( It's currently planned for
https://launchpad.net/ecere/+milestone/0.44.8 )
I have however enabled the other 32 bit architectures. I have also fixed the
architecture independent files to say 'all'

Lintian no longer provides warning on the source package.

The libraries source included are mostly under deps/ , and are provided to
facilitate building the source package on Windows.
They are not linked against under Linux, with the exception of ungif.
An amalgamated SQLite is again provided for Windows users convenience.
We also have slightly modified version of harfbuzz within
ecere/src/graphics/drivers which we require and is not available elsewhere. The
entire source package fits in 11mb compressed, ~50 uncompressed, and the 3rd
party source represents a reasonable percentage of the source archive size.

I have gone over the included source files and updated the
debian/copyright accordingly

Lintian runs error free on the binary package, but with a few warnings:

[Bug 394998] Re: [needs-packaging] ecere-sdk -- cross-platform developer toolkit

2012-08-14 Thread Jerome St-Louis
Thank you Daniel!

I will apply the patch for the Copyright, I was not getting this here...
I will run the update-maintainer as well.
For the watch, I do not yet have a standard file location / tags so I will wait
until next major update, if that's okay.

The i386 build on Quantal built fine before on the Launchpad PPA.
I'm going to set up a virtual machine and try it there.
Would you have the full failed build log? It looks as though it couldn't find
ffi.h from libffi, which is in an architecture dependent include path.

Thanks!

Jerome
