[Bug 990703] [NEW] Gnome graphical issues in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-04-28 Thread James Thompson
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 from 11.10 and I had a few issues with
Gnome, it wouldnt load and I found out it was an issue with libclutter (I had
built the package manually and it hadnt been upgraded), after removing it and
re-installing everything that depended on it I managed to get it working with
the following exceptions:
 - When highlighting by dragging the mouse, the cursor seems to skip over parts
or reset itself, highlighting in general is just not possible
 - Tab switching in gedit doesnt always work, the new tab doesnt get selected
most of the time and even if it does sometimes the text below it isnt refreshed
until I scroll or ctrl-a it.

They seem to be rendering issues but reproducing them can be difficult
as it sometimes works fine.

I am using official Nvidia drivers, but switching between official and
Ubuntu drivers didnt help.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Many Thanks

Turns out ppa-purge hadnt removed the version installed from a PPA, I
rebuilt the source package and after installing that everything was
fine.

[Bug 990703] Re: Gnome graphical issues in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-05-02 Thread James Thompson
It does happen in a guest session.

Its a little hard to screenshot the issue.. Imagine clicking on a tab to
open another document but nothing happens until you scroll, then the
page updates but the tab doesnt until you resize the window. It "looks
fine" on a screenshot, but isnt working as intended

[Bug 990703] Re: Gnome graphical issues in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-05-02 Thread James Thompson
To clarify: these issues are purely graphical. If I swap to another
window or do anything that would cause the screen to "re-draw" then it
fixes itself, its just that switching tabs doesnt cause the screen to
re-draw.

I originally posted this as a question but was directed here to bug report it.
I'm not convinced this is an issue with Gedit itself, but perhaps an issue with
my installation.

If there is a way to view all packages gedit depends on for drawing, I
could re-install them and see if that fixes anything..

Many Thanks,
James

[Bug 1020281] [NEW] Random temporary lockup

2012-07-02 Thread James Thompson
Public bug reported:

Recently I have been experiencing temporary lockups, my pc will freeze
for 1-3 seconds and then get back to work. It seems to happen every 1-6
minutes.

I am reporting this as a Kernel bug as I do not experience these issues
with the Quantal Kernel, however I cannot simply switch as my wifi
adapter does not work with that kernel! :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

[Bug 1020281] Re: Random temporary lockup

2012-07-02 Thread James Thompson
Hi Joseph,

I have been running Precise since Beta, the issue only started after
some updates a few days ago, unfortunately I have left it a bit too long
to remember which day specifically.

I have tried going back to a slightly older kernel but the issue is still
there, although I am sure that kernel worked before...
Perhaps another package is causing the issue, but it seems odd it went away
with 3.5.

I'll try to be more helpful..
The lockup involves: no mouse movement, videos stop, music sorta jitters/sticks
and the keyboard doesnt input any more.
I have tried various combinations of programs, it doesnt seem to relate to any
user-program. I have tried stopping various non-essential daemons with no effect
