[Bug 884639] Re: tips and trics section refers to "Region and Language" setting which does not exist

2012-04-22 Thread James Plate
Modified the reported entry in tips-specialcharacters.page to :

Define a compose key

1. Click the icon at the very right of the menu bar and select System
Settings.

2. Click Keyboard Layout and click Options.

3. Find the group called Compose key position. Select the key or keys
you would like to behave as a compose key. You can choose keys like Caps
Lock, either of the Alt keys, or the menu key. Any keys you select will
then only work as a compose key, and will no longer work for their
original purpose.

2012-04-26 Thread James Plate
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

[Bug 953841] Re: Rewinding videos can cause breakage

2012-05-06 Thread James Plate
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in gstreamer0.10.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-

[Bug 994189] Re: killall incorrect tab completion

2012-05-06 Thread James Plate
ill,
If would please provide some basic info on your version of Ubuntu using the
output of 'lsb_release -a' and 'apt-cache policy 'gnome-terminal' it would be
appreciated.

I confirmed this behaviour using gnome-terminal, Firefox and a youtube
video to provide the plugin-container. Once I had the video open I used
gnome terminal to enter 'killall plug +TAB', which did show the tab
completion however the command would return 'plugin-container: no
process found' until I deleted the last 'r' in 'plugin-container', at
which point the command completed successfully.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 995747] Re: Gedit: Remove trailing spaces feature removes last line.

2012-05-07 Thread James Plate
I duplicated this bug using the reporters file and a local file with the
same results.

The code listed for the Remove trailing spaces tool is:

#!/bin/sh

sed 's/[[:blank:]]*$//'

Tested on

List of active plugins:
gconftool-2 -g /apps/gedit-2/plugins/active-plugins
[modelines,spell,docinfo,filebrowser,time,externaltools]

No output when started in terminal and running the remove trailing spaces tool
that uses identical sed:
#!/bin/sh

sed 's/[[:blank:]]*$//'

So I guess it's not sed's fault.

[Bug 1001995] Re: I deleted the annoying "keyring" and the next day the "software centre" in Xubuntu was gone.

2012-05-21 Thread James Plate
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 946296] Re: ati post-release update installation

2012-03-04 Thread James Plate
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 946178] Re: GPU fan always at 100%, can not change the thermal settings

2012-03-04 Thread James Plate
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make
Ubuntu better. However, it seems that you are using a proprietary
software package. Specifically, NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia. Because of
this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug.

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and
Ubuntu the following pages should be informative:

1. http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ubuntustory/components - information about
Ubuntu repositories
2. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories - information regarding
managing repositories.

[Bug 946398] Re: USB Flash Drive is not detected

2012-03-04 Thread James Plate
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

The most likely cause of your issue is a mis-configuration of
Virtualbox. Virtualbox requires additional software (Extension Pack) to
be installed and configured before USB functionality is available.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. While we appreciate the difficulties you are facing, it
would appear that the CD image (ISO file) you downloaded could be
corrupt. There is an easy way to verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO
files you download. Could you please visit
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM follow the instructions
and report back as to whether or not the MD5SUM verified? Thanks in

[Bug 991025] Re: gnome-icon-theme-full_3.4.0-oubuntu1_all.deb konnte nicht installiert werden.könnte sich in einem nicht funktionsfähigen zustand befinden

2012-04-30 Thread James Plate
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu
better.
However, we noticed that some of the sentences in this bug report are not in
English. If they were translated in English they would be more understandable
to triagers. Could you please translate them?

The best translation I found from Google translate is:

"I last updated and new ubuntu12.4 but I noticed now that I pentium3 and
not 4 or higher have. (my fault) I can now no longer insterlieren
aktuallisieren or deinsterlieren. must, so to speak and remove
ubuntu12.4 insterlieren older version, but how"

Judging by what I was able to translate, this does not appear to be a
bug report so I am closing it and converting it to a question in the
support tracker.

We understand the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more
sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are
bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

Firstly, this should not have been filed against Ubuntu Docs, and each
issue should have been filed as separate bugs if they were indeed valid.

According to a quick search at packages.ubuntu.com see:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/audacious Audacious is still
available in precise.

Did you try re-installing it?
'sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install audacious'

The issue regarding wine is not a bug but a request for support.

Mark,

Look at the output near the end of your 'sudo apt-get update' output.

--->"W: Duplicate sources.list entry
http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/";<---

Firstly, you need to fix your /etc/apt/sources.list entries then run
'sudo apt-get update' again and watch for any errors. If the update
command completes with no errors I'll wager audacious will install just
fine. If not you could disable the thrid party ppa's you're using re-
update and install audacious from the ubuntu repos, then re-enable your
other ppa's.

I'm no help myself with wine, I personally don't use it. However, as
mentioned in the initial comment you could check the help/support sites
available. You could also try getting support for this issue on the
#ubuntu and #winehq irc channels on irc.freenode.net

Hope this helps.

What did the upgrade do and how can it be repared?

[Bug 1017008] Re: Launch pad has disappeared.

2012-07-06 Thread James Plate
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Also, please execute the following command, as it will automatically
gather debugging information, in a terminal:

  apport-collect 1017008

Thanks!

[Bug 948964] [NEW] Computer restarted after making changes to dual display setup using twinview.

2012-03-07 Thread James Plate
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu precise (development branch)
Release:12.04

nvidia-settings:
  Installed: 295.20-0ubuntu1

  Version table:
 *** 295.20-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages

Expected that the new display configuration would be applied as usual.

Instead the computer suddenly restarted, however after booting the
selected settings were applied.
