[Bug 426185] Re: Gnome-panel fails to load various applets

2009-11-24 Thread james page
I started getting this problem shortly after upgrading to 9.10 from
9.04.

At first, logging off and then back on seemed to do the trick.

now, a killall gnome-panel is required to get it to work and, as
mentioned above, there seems to be some issue with the weather applet.
when the log on/off was working, the wx applet was displayed. now,
going the killall route, no weather app and trying to install it does
not work either.

I have also tried to replace the gnome-panel via the SPM.

Hirsute/Wallaby packages include the fix from:

So marked "Fix Released" for this target.

Focal/Ussuri and Groovy/Wallaby - fix has been merged into the neutron
table branch for each release however no new point releases from Neutron
for these two release targets yet.

[Bug 1928645] [NEW] [SRU] ceph 16.2.4

2021-05-17 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
This release fixes several bugs. We would like to make sure all of our users
have access to these improvements.

The update contains the following package updates:

   * ceph 16.2.4

[Test Case]
The following SRU process was followed:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OpenStackUpdates

In order to avoid regression of existing users, the OpenStack team will
run their continuous integration test against the packages that are in
-proposed. A successful run of all available tests will be required
before the proposed packages can be let into -updates.

The OpenStack team will be in charge of attaching the output summary of
the executed tests. The OpenStack team members will not mark
‘verification-done’ until this has happened.

[Regression Potential]
In order to mitigate the regression potential, the results of the
aforementioned tests are attached to this bug.

[Bug 1892448] Re: ceph 15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 collides with ceph-deploy 2.0.1-0ubuntu1

2021-05-27 Thread James Page
@sil2100

apologies I'd not spotted this bug was SRU incomplete - I've included
require details.

** Description changed:

- On an Ubuntu 20.04 installation with the focal-proposed repos enabled
- and both the ceph/ceph-base/ceph-* packages (which are in main) and the
- ceph-deploy package (which is in universe) installed, the upgrade from
- ceph 15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 to ceph 15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 breaks with
- the following error message:
+ [Impact]
+ Not possible to install ceph and ceph-deploy binary packages due to
conflicting manpage.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ sudo apt install ceph-base ceph-deploy
+ [error as in original bug report]
+
+ [Regression Discussion]
+ The fix simply drops the ceph-deploy manpage from the ceph-base binary
package.
+
+ [Original Bug Report]
+ On an Ubuntu 20.04 installation with the focal-proposed repos enabled and
both the ceph/ceph-base/ceph-* packages (which are in main) and the ceph-deploy
package (which is in universe) installed, the upgrade from ceph
15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 to ceph 15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 breaks with the
following error message:

  dpkg: error processing archive
/var/cache/apt/archives/ceph-base_15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2_amd64.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite '/usr/share/man/man8/ceph-deploy.8.gz', which is also in
package ceph-deploy 2.0.1-0ubuntu1

I wasn't even able to solve this by trying to uninstall/purge ceph-
deploy using apt-get or aptitude - instead, I had to resort to

  dpkg --remove --force-remove-reinstreq ceph-deploy

I think this is a bug in ceph 15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2, more specifically
in the packaging of ceph-base 15.2.3-0ubuntu0.20.04.2, which probably
shouldn't contain the man page for ceph-deploy since it doesn't seem to
contain any other ceph-deploy files either.

- does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc)

[Common blockers]
OK:
- does not FTBFS currently
- does have a test suite that runs at build time
  - test suite fails will fail the build upon error.
- does have a test suite that runs as autopkgtest
- The package has a team bug subscriber
- no translation present, but none needed for this case
- no new python2 dependency

[Packaging red flags]
OK:
- Ubuntu does not carry a delta
- symbols tracking not applicable for this kind of code.
- d/watch is present and looks ok
- Upstream update history is good
- Relatively new package so no update history
- the current release is packaged
- promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs that so far
  maintained the package
- no massive Lintian warnings
- d/rules is rather clean
- Does not have Built-Using

[Upstream red flags]
OK:

- no incautious use of malloc/sprintf (as far as I can check it)
- no use of sudo, gksu, pkexec, or LD_LIBRARY_PATH
- no use of user nobody
- no use of setuid
- no important open bugs (crashers, etc) in Debian or Ubuntu or Upstream
- no dependency on webkit, qtwebkit, seed or libgoa-*

[Bug 1906727] Re: focal iscsiadm and blockdev location is wrongly mention in apparmor profi; le

2021-06-08 Thread James Page
The blockdev and iscsiadm binaries should be accessible under / and /usr
locations already:

  /{usr/,}sbin/blockdev rix,
  /{usr/,}sbin/iscsiadm rix,

the apparmor patterns should allow that.

/etc/multipath.conf is not included.

block any SRU activity - if field or bootstack teams have a reliable

zc.lockfile:

[Summary]
Fairly simple python package to support IPC locks under Python3

+1 from MIR team for promotion to main.

[Duplication]
OK:
- There are similar packages in main but this is a fairly trivial python
module so no issue with some level of duplication.

[Dependencies]
OK:
- All covered on this MIR bug.

[Embedded sources and static linking]
OK:
- no embedded source present
- no static linking

[Security]
OK:
- no history of CVE's
(http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=zc.lockfile)
- does not run a daemon as root
- does not use webkit1,2
- does not use lib*v8 directly
- does not parse data formats
- does not open a port
- does not process arbitrary web content
- does not use centralized online accounts

- does not deal with system authentication (eg, pam), etc)

[Common blockers]
OK:
- does not FTBFS currently
- does have a test suite that runs as autopkgtest
- The package has a team bug subscriber
- no translation present, but none needed for this case
- no new python2 dependency
- Python package that is using dh_python
- test suite present and executed as part of package build

[Packaging red flags]
OK:
- Ubuntu does not carry a delta
- symbols tracking not applicable for this kind of code.
- d/watch is present and looks ok
- Upstream update history is good
- Relatively new package so no update history
- the current release is packaged.
- promoting this does not seem to cause issues for MOTUs that so far
  maintained the package
- no massive Lintian warnings
- d/rules is rather clean
- Does not have Built-Using

[Bug 1888309] Re: [MIR] octavia

2021-06-09 Thread James Page
>> bugs reported upstream as potential security issues <<

An upstream developer responded to the bugs reported - the code
identified relates to the amphora agent which is internal to octavia,
and requires communication from the main octavia control process to the
HTTP server in the amphora agent to be TLS encrypted with mutual
authentication of client certificates.

Upstream acknowledged the potential bug but described the risk of
exploit as low due to this mitigating control.

The OpenStack Charms for Octavia setup the TLS encryption and
authentication as described.

2021-06-10 Thread James Page
Setting the pacemaker distro task back to new - it seems very odd that a
system designed to manage a cluster of servers would install on every
node with a non-unique node id, which is a change in behaviour from
older versions of the same software.

Can we not sanity fix this to use the hostname, which was the old
behaviour and makes way more sense?

[Bug 1889765] Re: Notification processing failure causes notifications to get stuck

2021-06-11 Thread James Page
>Ubuntu SRU information<

[Impact]
During a server hard failure (power off) Masakari will fail to complete
recovery of impacted instances if the server comes back up before Masakari has
completed recovery of all instances.

[Test Case]
Deploy OpenStack with Masakari configuration (using the OpenStack Charms)
1) Create a segment and add the node
2) Create enough VMs so Masakari will take some time on the evacuation (e.g. 30
VMs)
3) Reboot the node
4) Masakari starts the migration of the VMs
5) Node eventually comes back and nova-compute is up & running while Masakari
is still evacuating VMs

[Regression Potential]
The proposed cherry pick resolves some incorrect assumptions in the exception
processing within Masakari which resolves this issue; behaviour is not changed
and the fix has been upstream in Masakari for some time.

[Bug 1933410] [NEW] [SRU] ceph 15.2.13

2021-06-23 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
This release fixes several bugs. We would like to make sure all of our users
have access to these improvements.

The update contains the following package updates:

   * ceph 15.2.13

[Bug 1826857] Re: offloading disabled when using linuxbrige or bonding

2021-06-28 Thread James Page
Revisiting this bug with new information.

I can confirm that when a bridge is involved in the data path, hardware
offloading of packets gets disabled as the network flow bumps to and
from the kernel and the NIC.

However with bonding and appropriate switchdev configuration, offloading
works fine and this is a more typical configuration. Sticking to OVS
bridges rather than using Linux bridges as well will avoid this
situation.

AFAICT this is working as intended so marking this bug as a wont fix.

[Bug 1908375] Please test proposed package

2021-06-28 Thread James Page
Hello Dariusz, or anyone else affected,

Accepted ceph into queens-proposed. The package will build now and be
available in the Ubuntu Cloud Archive in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. To enable the -proposed
repository:

  sudo add-apt-repository cloud-archive:queens-proposed
  sudo apt-get update

Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-queens-needed to verification-queens-done. If it does
not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change
the tag to verification-queens-failed. In either case, details of your
testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

2021-06-30 Thread James Page
disco and eoan used init scripts whereas the packaging from focal
onwards uses systemd units provided directly by the OVN package (the
split from OVS happened @ focal).

As a result the issues seen here related to code that is no longer in a
supported Ubuntu release (I had to pull from old-releases to confirm
this was a problem).

Marking Won't Fix - if you have similar issues with focal or later
please open a new bug.
