[Bug 223304] Re: intel pro/wireless 3945abg
Hi I am using a Acer Laptop (Acer 5583NWXMI, 5580 series) with Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network Connection, whic doesn't work. I have tried #ubuntu on IRC and all ubuntu forums but to no use. [Bug 52013] ubuntu 6.06 boot failure
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop I have seen 2 different failure scenarios during bootup. One scenario is: [] the "loading ... " screen appears and as best I can tell, everything is OK except for "Loading hardware drivers" and "Starting PCMCIA services" both of which "failed". A considerable delay (minutes) occurs at the "Loading hardware drivers" step. [] the next delay occurs at the "Configuring network interfaces" step after which the text changes from amber colored to white and the boot process appears to abort with the final messages being: * Checking all filesystems ... [ok] /etc/rcS.d/S40ifrename: line 12: /sbin/ifrename: No such file or directory * Configuring network interfaces... udevd-event[3180]: wait_for_sysfs: waiting for '/sys/devices/platform/i82365.0/bus' failed Nothing else happens after that. Here is a second failure scenario: [] I get the logon screen where I enter a user/password and press enter. [] Thereafter, a blank brown screen appears and nothing else happens. [] Pressing ctrl-alt-F1 (something I gleaned from forum postings) displays the following: [17179604.708000] ppdev: user-space parallel port driver The following may be helpful: [] I am a linux novice, but I did use the previous (5.10) release with no problems. [] The computer was working with 6.06 until I used the system administration "networking" dialog tool to switch the wireless network encryption from disabled to enabled and back to disabled. I have never directly edited any configuration files so if one is corrupted, the supplied GUI tools are suspect. My computer appears to be unusable at this point. Thanks for taking the time to read my tale of woe. -- jv ** Affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- ubuntu 6.06 boot failure https://launchpad.net/bugs/52013 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 52013] Re: [Bug 52013] Re: ubuntu 6.06 boot failure
Thanks, Oliver. It may, indeed, be related. An apparent difference is that my system does not successfully boot anytime now; and, it appears to (randomly?) fail in one of 2 different ways that I tried to describe. I can only hope the machine can be returned to a usable state. I have been forced to return to a MS Windows computer (from whence I came) . -- jv - Original Message - From: "Oliver Klee" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, July 05, 2006 1:45 PM Subject: [Bug 52013] Re: ubuntu 6.06 boot failure Bug 47462 may be related. -- ubuntu 6.06 boot failure https://launchpad.net/bugs/52013 -- ubuntu 6.06 boot failure https://launchpad.net/bugs/52013 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 152010] Re: HAL Crashes on first login
I have had also this problem after upgrade to gutsy. I thought that HAL uses DBUS subsystem and this dependency could cause problems. Command runlevel told me that I am in runlevel 2. So I checked my /etc/rc2.d directory: there was a link called S12hal, but S50dbus! After I renamed the latter to S10dbus, the problem was solved. -- HAL Crashes on first login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/152010 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 139892] Re: no sound since upgrade to gutsy with pci id 10b9:5461
I have also had the same problem. I have two soundcards. In feisty, the sound worked, in gutsy not. aplay returned following: ALSA lib confmisc.c:1286:(snd_func_refer) Unable to find definition 'defaults.pcm.dmix.device' ALSA lib conf.c:3510:(_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned error: No such file or directory ALSA lib conf.c:3982:(snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such file or directory ALSA lib pcm.c:2144:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default So I decided to delete my configuration files: rm .asoundrc .asoundrc.asoundconf The sound immediatelly started working! But I would prefer if the files were deleted by the upgrade script rather than struggling myself to find the reason. Just to give you more information, here is the diff between my correctly working gutsy (left) and the original feisty configuration file. In the older alsa version, the definitions like "defaults.pcm.device" were probably not yet mandatory: 15,21c15,17 < defaults.pcm.dmix.max_periods 0 < defaults.pcm.dmix.rate 48000 < defaults.pcm.dmix.format S16_LE < defaults.pcm.dmix.card defaults.pcm.card < defaults.pcm.dmix.device defaults.pcm.device < defaults.pcm.dsnoop.card defaults.pcm.card < defaults.pcm.dsnoop.device defaults.pcm.device --- > defaults.pcm.dmix_max_periods 0 > defaults.pcm.dmix_rate 48000 > defaults.pcm.dmix_format S16 54,56d49 < defaults.namehint.showall off < defaults.namehint.basic on < defaults.namehint.extended off -- no sound since upgrade to gutsy with pci id 10b9:5461 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/139892 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 174502] services-admin breaks service dependencies
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools This is easily reproducible in gutsy: When I disable and reenable a service in gnome tool services-admin, its priority in runlevel 2 (the runlevel I am using) is changed to 50. This can cause problems easily, leading to many other reported bugs. I can see that startup scripts in init.d have dependencies in their headers (#INIT INFO), so it would be good to take it into account. ** Affects: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- services-admin breaks service dependencies https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/174502 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
