[Bug 1357945] Re: [bottom edge] Current bottom edge hint timeout makes it difficult to read the bottom edge action
** Description changed: Currently when you open the address book, dialer app, clock app etc, the bottom edge hint is visible and shows what the action is. This hint is hidden after a few seconds. This makes it difficult for the user to understand what the bottom edge does if he didn't read the bottom edge text in time. In the clock app design at https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1Kkl7xT8BYo9mT8i3IXh6rPrDlNg6cBxTajahlRYIGlI/edit#slide=id.g18587dd40_029 (Slide 4), the bottom edge text is supposed to show the time to the next alarm. By hiding this hint, it renders that text useless since it is hidden. - I propose the following change, - - Follow the same bottom edge behaviour as the Unity 8 Dash which always shows the bottom edge hint. The hint is hidden only when the user scrolls up. On scrolling down it is shown immediately. + -- Solution -- + - Hint tab is always displayed by default + - When interacting with the content on screen it collapses (e.g. dialler - typing numbers, address book, clock - scrolling) + - When user stops interacting, it reappears after 5 seconds + + https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/presentation/d + /1YuB3SW5UKI5t9ox4Gc9snsOnFAr1j0PTFjbtK- + eLO8w/edit#slide=id.g386935507_0225 ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Importance: Low => Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1357945 Title: [bottom edge] Current bottom edge hint timeout makes it difficult to read the bottom edge action To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/address-book-app/+bug/1357945/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1407730] Re: [browser] Support multiple app instances in the spread
Personally, I think there is some good thinking here. I proposed a similiar idea to the design team for dealing with multiple browser windows, especially useful when switching between different interaction modes (i.e. docked phone showing a window UI) I don't agree with saviq though that the right edge would be more efficient than the bottom edge. With the bottom edge you can switch tabs with a single swipe, or worse case swipe & tap. With the right edge spread gesture, you would be cluttered with information from other apps (redundant if your only purpouse is to switch tabs in the current app). Happy to discuss this at the next sprint. All in all, I feel this bug/suggestion goes beyond the browser and into all apps that support multiple instances/windows/tab. [Bug 1198714] Re: [browser] Switching between tabs cumbersome
** Description changed: Current Behaviour: - When switching between tabs, I have to make two touches. Most other browsers only require one. - When switching between tabs, there is very limited space to display tab specific information. - Tab icons do not have a number indicating the number of tabs open. - We cannot switch between tabs using the left-to-right swipe motion. - We are forced to use the in-browser tab switching because we cannot have multiple instances of the browser app. - I can have a GMail web app, and Gmail open in a seperate tab, but I would have to switch between them differently. This can be fairly confusing because the windows aren't lableled when switching unless you go to the main Apps page. Expected Behaviour: - Use a switching behaviour similar to the way we switch between notifications to switch between tabs. I posted a video about it here: https://plus.google.com/113548024460495540073/posts/LKk7yHvFY68 - Alternatively, abandon the entire Tab functionality and only have new browser app instances. This will make the experience more aligned with the Web App experience. NOTE: I remember reading an article regarding windows switching tab switching. The article explained that the introduction of Tabs in applications was an attempt to take control of windows switching from the window manager. I don't have a reference, but I believe it was written with Ubuntu in mind. If knows about this article, it probably gives good use cases to abandone tabbing all together. + + UX Comment: + The new bottom edge functionality will address the issues above. + See bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1329943 ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Status: Fix Committed => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1198714 Title: [browser] Switching between tabs cumbersome To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1198714/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1267592] Re: [sdk] Haptic feedback (vibration) is inconsistent between UI elements
** Description changed: Having haptic feedback on the dash is great! However, having it for normal tap activation isn't. Normal activation of dash elements is usually instant, so no additional feedback is required. Currently these elements have instant haptic feedback: - apps in the Dash - keyboard buttons (by default) - System Settings categories - page stack items - pushbuttons (e.g. in the power dialog) - checkboxes (e.g. in Language & Text settings) - switches - Browser toolbar buttons, except for Add Bookmark These do not: - apps in the Launcher - unlock screen and phone dialpad buttons - toolbar buttons everywhere except Browser - links in Web pages - pushbuttons or checkboxes in Web pages - text fields anywhere One way to resolve this inconsistency would be to reserve haptic feedback for long-press. The user often doesn't know if it's been triggered or not. Having vibration happen when long-press is recognized might be the best use of this feature. + + *** UX Solution *** + We agree with the above solution. Haptic feedback should be reserved for long press & keyboard buttons (on by default). + All the other elements should not have haptic feedback. ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Status: Confirmed => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1267592 Title: [sdk] Haptic feedback (vibration) is inconsistent between UI elements To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ui-toolkit/+bug/1267592/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
