[Bug 1308908] [NEW] keyboard layout detection chooses "variant" instead of "macbook" on a Macbook 6.1
Public bug reported: Whilst covering the following test case (http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/testcases/1301/info), I encountered a bug regarding the automatic keyboard layout selection. I am using a Macbook 6.1 with a French keyboard and tried to install the Ubuntu Trusty Final ISO proposed in the test case. The automatic keyboard layout selector wrongly concludes that I am using a French "variant" layout instead of the French "macbook" one. [Bug 1301839] Re: AMD Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M[1002:6660] Low-graphic mode with Trusty
@Pali: I am glad it worked for you, but this is not an acceptable solution for less technical users who just want Ubuntu to work straight after boot. I currently dual boot with Debian unstable, which is running kernel 3.13, mesa 10.1, xorg 1.15 and GNOME 3, and I have none of these problems. Both the opensource and proprietary drivers worked painlessly. I don't know whether the probblem comes from Unity itself or the patched kernel that Ubuntu runs, but, as of today, I cannot use the opensource driver because of this bug and cannot use the proprietary driver because Unity refuses to load (same as reported here: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?93838-Ubuntu-14-04-Kernel-3-13 -and-AMD-Catalyst-issue). [Bug 947038] Re: Rhythmbox: Add to Playlist option creates a playlist with an empty name
Still applicable to the version of Rhytmbox shipped with 12.04. This bug is still not fixed in the latest version in 14.04, although the behaviour has changed a bit. In Rhythmbox v3.0.1, "Add to Playlist" -> "New Playlist" still creates a Playlist with a blank name but moves straight to renaming mode to allow the user to enter a playlist name right after adding the files. However, one can still create a playlist with a blank name inadvertently by just clicking somewhere else. Re: [Bug 1272933] Re: [Dell Latitude E6440] suspend leads to black screen, laptop does not enter sleep.
My Debian sid test was with the open source drivers and resulted in the same problem with suspend. However, there has been a recent BIOS update (version A02 -> A05) released by DELL. Since the update, it seems that the suspend problem just went away, both on Ubuntu LTS and Debian Sid. Can't say for sure that this is due to the BIOS update (no detailed changelog available), but the timeline points to it. 2014-03-16 17:48 GMT+00:00 Pali : > Maybe there is problem with fglrx blob. [Bug 1272933] [NEW] [Dell Latitude E6440] suspend leads to black screen, laptop does not enter sleep.
Public bug reported: I have a Dell Latitude E6440 laptop (http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201306-13687/), with the switchable AMD graphics option, running Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS. I followed the installation instructions provided by Dell: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/rc1046313/DriverDetails/Product/latitude-e6440-laptop?driverId=Y24FF&osCode=1204A&fileId=3332894306&languageCode=EN&categoryId=CS And after installation of Ubuntu and the Dell driver package, the laptop is running very well. However, I suffer from a bug preventing my laptop to suspend. On suspend, the screen just turns black but the laptop is still powered on. None of the key combinations I tried was able to restore the display, forcing me to do a hard shut down. Suspend sometimes does work but is very rare. I could not identify a pattern. One time where suspend worked consecutively, I got a kernel panic, which I took a screenshot of using my phone. I have also tried performing suspend on Ubuntu 12.04.3 using both Live CD and a clean install, but same thing happens. I also have an install of Debian Unstable, same symptoms with suspend on kernel version 3.12 and 3.13. Please let me know what type of information I can provide to help fix this bug. Please be verbose, as my kernel debugging skills are non- existent. [Bug 1347487] [NEW] backport version 2.3.x to Ubuntu Trusty LTS
Public bug reported: Spyder has become a significant piece of software in the scientific community, providing an IDE with a familiar, MATLAB-like, interface. [Bug 1090663] [NEW] erase disk results in error message + 100% CPU hang
Public bug reported: It has been already reported that USB-creator is broken on 12.10, with USB images not being bootable. However, I also use this tool for quickly formatting my USB pen drive before using unetbootin. However, doing so results in a weird error message popping up and a 100% CPU hang coming from udisks (see attached screenshots). In the meantime, USB-creator stays stuck on "Erasing" indefinitely and I have to manually kill the udisks-helper-* job in order to get full control on my machine back. This is a serious issue. Together with the non-bootable Live-USB, it makes this tool completely useless on my machine. [Bug 1052679] [NEW] liferea fails to open selected feed to browser on first launch
Public bug reported: When launched for the first time, Liferea refuse to open the selected feeds into your browser and notifies it in the bottom left corner of the UI. This can be easily fixed by going to the preferences, in the browser section. The strange things is that even if you don't modify anything in the browser section, the "open in browser" is back working. Steps to reproduce the bug: 1) install liferea for the first time 2) update current feeds 3) try opening one by double-click on the its entry, normally nothing happens and a message is displayed on the bottom left corner 4) go to Tools -> Preferences 5) navigate to "Browser" 6) exit the Preferences 7) try opening the feed again, now it should be working Pretty sure I had the same behaviour on Debian Wheezy as well, so might be good to report upstream if the bug is confirmed. [Bug 1052860] [NEW] right-click option "format" launches 2 instances of Nautilus when finished
Public bug reported: To format a USB pendrive, I usually right-click it on the unity bar and select "Format...". This is very handy as it is a user-friendly command to an otherwise more cumbersome manipulation in Disk Utility. However when done, the script tries to launch Nautilus on the newly formated USB pendrive. On my computer, this results to 2 instances of Nautilus being launched instead of a single one. Both of them correctly default to the Pendrive mount point. Steps to reproduce the bug: 1) Insert the pendrive to format 2) Right-click on its icon appearing in the Unity launch bar 3) Select "Format..." 4) Leave the default options, ie: FAT and New Volume 5) Wait for the script to finish 6) When done, 2 instances of Nautilus gets launched. Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Spyder v2.1.9 After starting up Spyder, the oder of the menu entries is messed up. [Bug 1037457] [NEW] inappropriate color theme in the contact list
Public bug reported: A slight usability issue, certainly because of the default empathy color theme. On the contact list, when using the drop-dowm menu to set your status ("Available", "Busy"...), the text color is dark grey on a black background. Unless you are lucky to use a monitor with strong backlight, this is obviously not the wisest choice for readability. Hoovering the menu entries with the mouse does reveal the text better (orange background with white text) but this is not intuitive at first. Proposed solution : Instead, the color layout in the drop-down menu of the contact list should be set to white font on dark background as it is for the Me Menu under the mail icon. One might argue that people are more likely to use the Me Menu instead of the contact list. Still, this fix will bring a little more consistancy between all the available options for the user. [Bug 1050311] [NEW] playback progress bar gets stuck although song is still playing
Public bug reported: While doing the laptop tests for beta 1, I encountered a weird bug on Rhythmbox's UI. I tried to move the playback forward using the progress bar on the top right, but missed the bar and ended up clicking a little bit too high. The results were: 1) song kept playing as if nothing happened (good since I apparently "missed" the progress bar click zone), 2) the playback progress bar got stuck at the playback poisition at which I made the click. The song eventually kept going until the end, with the playback progress still stuck somewhere in the middle in the song. See screenshot attached, that displays the invalid playback position although the song playback had already finished. Steps to reproduce this bug: 1) Launch a song with Rhythmbox. Mine was the one contained in the example folder in my home folder. 2) Click the playback progress bar on the top right corner of the UI to move the song forward. That should work as expected. 3) Click again but aim to a position lower or higher than the bar, your pointer should turn into a hand for a fraction of second if the manipulation succeeded. 4) The playback should resume but the progress bar should now be stuck. 5) Restarting the song does not unlock the progress bar, for me I had to correctly register a click on the bar as in step #2 to get the progress bar alive again. Expected behaviour: Not too sure about this one. If correct registration of the progress bar click is assumed to be when one clicks ON the bar itself, then aiming a little too under or upper should not do anything. However, if the registration zone is expected to cover the height of the playback tool bar (i.e. the height of the Pause button), then wherever I click in the progress bar zone should move the progress bar at the right position (i.e. the registered relative x-position of my mouse pointer) and keep the playback and its progress alive. As usual, let me know whether further testing is required. [Bug 1050311] Re: playback progress bar gets stuck although song is still playing
I just compared with Rhythmbox 2.96 on Precise and the click registration zone gets displayed between 2 horizontal lines (see my mouse pointer on screenshot). Clicking elsewhere does nothing. Again I don't know how the new design, where the progress bar has now been moved to the right, intended to manage this. I suppose the same mechanism is still in use and a click registration zone still exists albeit not explicitly displayed. If this is the case, I would suggest to use a similar behaviour as in the working Precise version, while keeping the currently layout which arguably looks prettier. ** Attachment added: "playback_progressbar_precise.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/1050311/+attachment/3312117/+files/playback_progressbar_precise.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1050311 Title: playback progress bar gets stuck although song is still playing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/1050311/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1051217] [NEW] No "shutdown" or "restart" options in the Gnome menu of the installation media (Gnome remix alpha2)
Public bug reported: The Gnome menu of the Gnome-remix alpha2 live media is missing a Shutdown or Restart entry. Only Switch session and Suspend are available which is not straightfoward if you chose to keep testing in live mode after installation and wanted to end your session later. The shutdown and restart entries are present on my installation so it seems to be there, but not enabled in live session mode. [Bug 1051390] [NEW] Very low frame rate under unity
Public bug reported: I have got 2 laptops running Ubuntu 12.04 and regularly updated. Both of them have sandy-bridge processors with integreated Intel GPUs. Both of them see very bad in-game performance in simutrans, where barely 12 fps are achieved. At this frame rate, the game is pretty much unplayable. I tried playing it on Xubuntu, Kubuntu and Debian Wheezy (Gnome 3) and managed to achieve 25 fps for every of them, which suggests unity/compiz is likely to be at fault. Since recent point updates to unity were supposed to tackle gaming performance, I am leaving this as an issue related to simutrans. [Bug 887177] Re: upstream 2.1.1 is released
Unfortunately manually. Again because of Ubuntu vs Fedora update policy (Ubuntu freezes package until next release whereas Fedora works closer to upstream and is more keen on releasing minor updates), chances to get a backport update are very low. That's what PPA are made for. Again this is Ubuntu specific due to its release policy, whereas for Fedora I know spyder v2.1.6 is on updates-testing right now. So this is defintely not a bug, and the answers are: 1) either start a PPA for 11.10 and lower and push a request for update to the 2.1 series in next 12.04 (2.1.6 is in Debian sid right now so that should do) 2) or install from source as in post #4 3) or use Fedora where this package will be more up to date in the main repos Hope that helped. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/887177 Title: upstream 2.1.1 is released To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/spyder/+bug/887177/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Building it from source is as easy as downloading the latest source tarball (2.1.7 is about to be released) and performing "sudo python setup.py install" in the extracted source directory. [Bug 1155559] Re: Icon in unity launcher looks too small
Seems to be jabref32.xpm still. To be honnest, I believe that this bug also concerns the way Unity renders icons. This all comes to the observation that, in Gnome-Shell, this icon looks the right size, although a bit on the blurry side probably because of the re-scaling involved. Same thing happens with numerous other apps, like unetbootin for instance. So, I am not sure patching the original debian package to use a bigger icon will really solve the root of the problem though. At best, this specific icon will look bigger on Unity and less blurry in Gnome-Shell. IMO, Unity should be able to figure out by itself the best way to resize an icon in order to make it look good in the launcher. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/119 Title: Icon in unity launcher looks too small To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jabref/+bug/119/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
