[Bug 70444] Ubuntu Edgy 6.10 & Dell Latitude D620: Desktop install fails (X server)
Public bug reported: I am trying to install Edgy on a Dell Latitude D620 from the Desktop Live CD. I have switched off the wireless kill switch (i.e., wifi and bluetooth are on) because of this bug: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.17/+bug/64125 Ctrl+Alt+F4 gives the following messages: [17179638.208000] hw_random: cannot enable RNG, aborting * Activating swap... [ ok ] mount: Function not implemented * Checking file systems... fsck 1.39 (29-May-2006) [ ok ] Then I get "Failed to start the X server". I have also tried "safe graphics mode", the result is the same. [Bug 70445] Ubuntu Edgy 6.10 & Dell Latitude D620: Alternate install fails (I/O error)
Public bug reported: I am trying to install Edgy on a Dell Latitude D620 using the Alternate CD. Everything goes fine until the stage "Select and install software" which fails at 6%. Doing Ctrl+Alt+F4 to see what happens I get the following: in-target: yelp zenity zip kernel: [17180095.216000] sr 1:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x802 kernel: [17180095.216000] sr0: Current: sense key: Hardware Error kernel: [17180095.216000] Additional sense: Timeout on logical unit kernel: [17180095.216000] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 148636 kernel: [17180095.216000] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 37159 in-target: Failed to fetch cdrom:[Ubuntu 6.10 _Edgy Eft_ - Release i386 ( 20061025.1)]/pool/main/d/diveintopython/diveintopython_5.4-2ubuntu1_all.deb MD5Sum mismatch This happens every time, with exactly the same sector and logical block. So I thought about a defective CD and burnt another one, only to see the same message with the same numbers. Yes, I have checked the integrity of both CDs and even the .iso file. [Bug 70448] Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 & Dell Latitude D620: freezes accesing disk
Public bug reported: I have installed Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) on a Dell Latitude D620 using the Desktop CD, following advice on the Ubuntu Wiki (dual boot) and http://www.math.dartmouth.edu/~sarunas/D620F6.html http://mcsp.wartburg.edu/figura/D620.html and everything seemed fine. However, a week later as soon as one logged in and clicked a menu the computer freezed; there were messages as the following: [17180140.408000] ata1: translated ATA stat/err 0x51/01 to SCSI SK/ASC/ASCQ 0x3/13/00 every few seconds. Eventually they would stop, the computer would unfreeze for a few moments, then freeze again with similar messages. This happens even when booting from the Dapper Live Desktop CD instead of the hard disk. [Bug 70488] Re: Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy: Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
It is strange. I do not have BusID PCI:0:2:1 so I cannot change it. In /etc/X11/xorg.conf I had: Section "Device" Identifier "Intel Corporation Mobile Integrated Graphics Controller" Driver "i810" BusID "PCI:0:2:0" EndSection and I still have that after running "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg". Thanks for your answer. However, I did not pursue the investigation further, and I tried to install Ubuntu Edgy 6.10. There were other problems, but eventually Kubuntu has been installed on this machine and seems to work well.
