[Bug 240154] Re: Won't run but apt-get does
Don't worry about the description and the tags, you as the reporter don't have to do anything (and shouldn't do anything). Tell you the truth, your report is invalid (not a bug, just user problem) and I should have closed it, but I'll keep it open till your problem is resolved, just to make sure... Now, when you join a domain, your node name changes from to ., so as long as it's next to 127.0.0.1 it should still work... I tried it on my machine (i'm not normally part of any domain, so just added a random 'testdomain'): now in /etc/hosts I have .testdomain... Now when doing 'sudo aptitude update' I get an error "unable to resolve host ..." but it still works fine... [Bug 293023] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 booting hangs for a while on "configuring network interfaces" on iwl3945 and iwl4965
Manolo, dmesg messages are asynchronous, so not a good measure to judge boot time delays. I would suggest installing bootchart, rebooting and then looking at the graphs in /var/log/bootchart For now I would suggest changing the value of timeout to something lower (maybe 5 or 10). The next version of Ubuntu (9.04, coming out in April), as well as the general direction of Linux kernel development, is to speed up boot time. So just wait for the next release to come out, I believe it will provide a more permanent fix to this (and other) boot speed issues. ** Description changed: It seems to bring up the interface successfully, then freeze for a while and start over. This happens both on intel 3945 and 4965 chipsets. + + The source of the problem is the value of timeout in + /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf. Changing it (from the original 60) to 5 or 10 + decreases the freeze time. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Won't Fix -- Ubuntu 8.10 booting hangs for a while on "configuring network interfaces" on iwl3945 and iwl4965 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293023 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
