I would like to reopen this bug. When I try to boot this gernel it starts and tells me modual are missing,the stops. In checking around trying to fix I tried to install linux packport mduels and it will not install.linux-backports-modules-2.6.26-5-generic Package not available found this in ubuntu packages the version listed for interpid requires this one to be installed first. Thus I cant instal this. [Bug 375564] [NEW] power management does not work in karmic
Public bug reported: I am running karmic on a desktop. All power settings are turned off. When I am not using the computer I shut it off. Have screen saver set for ten minutes. If I let the computer idle for just 30 seconds it will susspend the monitor. It turns off completly. I am not sure how to document this because there is no crash involved. Ive tried to reinstall and have the same problem. It boots to the point of loading hald and stops. I can get into the desktop through recovery mode but nothing works. I need a work around that can be done in recovery mode. The hard drive light will stay on till it stops whate ever its doing.Some times I have to stop it with froce quit.But most of the time it will go by itself after ten or fifteen seconds. I have tried some some of solutions mentioned here and none of them work. It depends on the website set up. Yahoo mail is the worst for me. They have so much junk that they want you to see more than they want you to see your email. I can increase the zoom so I can read my mail, and go to next email and it reajust back to small font G mail on the otherhand does not have the same problem. It stays wherever you put it Dosent have all the junk. This only shows up on on login screen. I dont know how to take a screen shot there. I am running a nec monitor mulisync E 700. When I install 8.04 it sets up the nec monitor, but this prpoblem occures then. If I do a restore boot and fix x it sets up generic plug and play drivers instead of the nec drivers,. I completly reformated the hard drive and did a fresh install of windows me.I use the best scanner I can get. The scanner does not show a virus.. Windows mbr has been changed by by grub2 and it does not like it. My virus scanner does not think there is a virus in the mbr,windows says there is a corrupt file or a virus in the mbr. It will not load everything. I never had this problem before grub2. The only reason I want to run win. is because I cant run my printer on ubuntu. There is no deb for my driver. The rpm will not convert to deb. I can not install it in windows because of what has been put into grub. If you dont know about this,let spomeone else look at it. There is no virus and no virus scanner says there is. The old grub works fine. Grub2 does not.Therefore its a bug in grub2.Maybe it should be fixed upstream. it just needs to be fixed.Win. loads its just not useable. M E is not supported and microsoft could care less.I might add that I have been using ubuntu since 6.06 and never had this problem before.I am just trying to do my thing and report bugs when I find them,and am trying to help the cause. I dont know how to code or I would just fix it myself. If it was written RPG or cobal I could. I dont think its has anything to do with hardware. It works fine on jaunty for me, but does not work in karmic. I dont have nvida or intel on my pc. The pictures screen saver is the only one I use.Would like to see it keept. The others I very seldom use. Would not miss any of them. I do use some once and a while. I have tried the f-spot and found it hard to set up.The pictures screen saver is easy to set up and does the same thing. I am having problems in karmic with the mouse it will not shut off screen saver. The only way I can shut it off is by the keyboard. It works that way but I prefer to use my mouse. With google if you have an account you can go into your account and see your search history.
