[Bug 251767] [NEW] removal of iwl3945 causes kernel oops since upgrade to version 2.6.24.20.22
Public bug reported: After today's installation of linux-backports-modules-2.6.24-20-generic, `rmmod iwl3945` causes a kernel oops. This effectively prevents hibernating the laptop. Please find a screenshot attached to this post. Warning: If you are running the kernel version 2.6.24-20 This will likely crash your computer, requiring you to reboot it. Might cause loss of data. Steps to reproduce: Execute `sudo rmmod iwl3945` or try hibernating your laptop. Other people are likely affected as well, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/176090/comments/112 Using Ubuntu 8.04.1 with the latest updates available. [Bug 237471] Re: no virtualbox-ose-modules package for latest kernel (2.6.24-18)
Kevin, thanks for your comment. However, for some people this might not be acceptable as they'd have to use an old kernel. Note: For those of you who do not want to go through the following steps, just use the attached deb-Package which is the result of the following process. This work-around does not rely on using outdated software: 0) Open up a command line. Don't worry, the workaround is straight forward and doesn't require any file editing. 1) Install module-assistant. This program is used to compile kernel modules from source code and build debian modulels. Simply do: sudo aptitude install module-assistant 2) Tell module-assistant to build, package and install your new modules; all done in the regular Debian way: sudo module-assistant auto-install virtualbox-ose This will automagically prepare everything it needs. 3) Reboot your system. Note: If you followed Kevin's instructions above, make sure you boot the current kernel. Obviously, this workaround works anytime they release a new kernel without updating the virtualbox modules. Once they release updated versions of the virtualbox modules, these will be installed during your regular system updates. Hope this helps. [Bug 238019] [NEW] virtualbox-ose-modules for 2.6.24-19 missing

[Bug 239585] [NEW] Shortcut to take screenshot in conflict with YouTube search
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem Ubuntu version in use: Hardy with all updates installed as of June 12th 2008 Totem version in use: 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 What I wanted to do: Using the search functino of the youtube plug-in, I wanted to search for a video whose name included the capital letter "S". What I expected to happen: I wanted to type in the search term and I expected the typed-in letters to appear in the search field. What happened instead: Whenever I type in Shift+S, I am offered a screenshot. (Shift+S is the shortcut to take a screenshot in totem). Steps to reproduce: 0. Start totem. 1. Enable the youtube plugin (Edit -> Plug-Ins -> Mark YouTube-Browser) 2. Press F9 to show the panel on the right edge of the window. 3. Select "YouTube" from the drop down menu. 4. Activate the search term field by left-clicking into it. 5. Type something, including Shift+S. [Bug 32436] Re: xine-based apps crash when trying to play .mp3 or .wav from a Samba share
If this is a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xine-lib/+bug/66832 then we should consider reassigning this bug to somebody else than the Kubuntu-team, because https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xine-lib/+bug/66832 definitely affects Ubuntu as well (using totem-xine). [Bug 61746] Re: Xorg exits when it receives an ACPI button/lid event
Luckily this is fixed in Feisty. Still, it's awkward to see such an important bug not getting fixed for 2 (?) major releases of Ubuntu. Let's hope our production machines won't need to go through such a nightmare ever again ;-) All best, Dan -- Xorg exits when it receives an ACPI button/lid event https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/61746 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 61746] Re: Xorg exits when it receives an ACPI button/lid event
Hey y'all, don't have the time & ressources to follow the above workflow right now, but as I do depend on my notebook computer, I rebuilt a patched package of the updated version. Thought I might as well share it with the rest of you... For your information: + `dch' -i was used + debian/patches was used (never done it before) + it works for me - due to lack of time, this package hasn't undergone intensive testing yet. As always, feedback will be appreciated. ** Attachment added: "patched version of xserver-xorg-core, latest Edgy sources" http://librarian.launchpad.net/7171876/xserver-xorg-core_1.1.1-0ubuntu12.2%2Bacpifix_i386.deb -- Xorg exits when it receives an ACPI button/lid event https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/61746 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 61746] Re: Xorg exits when it receives an ACPI button/lid event
Apparently a new version of the xserver has been released. Awkwardly enough, it still doesn't contain the fix posted in this thread. Figuring it's more than just me who needs a fixed package, I thought I might as well upload the .deb Package I just built from the latest Ubuntu-sources and the fix above. It works for me, your mileage may vary... I wonder why they don't include the patch -- whoever "they" may be... at least for me a standby-incapable xserver renders my Dell C600 completely unusable... ** Attachment added: "Patched xorg-xserver-core .deb-Package (reflecting latest changes)" http://librarian.launchpad.net/5678027/xserver-xorg-dev_1.1.1-0ubuntu12.1_i386.deb -- Xorg exits when it receives an ACPI button/lid event https://launchpad.net/bugs/61746 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 61746] Re: Xorg exits when it receives an ACPI button/lid event
As can be easily seen from the posts in this thread, this bug affects Edgy. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu Edgy) Status: Unconfirmed => Confirmed -- Xorg exits when it receives an ACPI button/lid event https://launchpad.net/bugs/61746 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 61746] Re: Xorg exits when it receives an ACPI button/lid event
Nico, thanks for pointing out this mistake. Obviously it's the wrong package :-) You'll find the right one below. Is there a way I can delete the one above or at least edit the respective post? [Bug 61746] Re: Xorg exits when it receives an ACPI button/lid event
Viktor, the reason why apt, update-manager and so on try to replace the fixed package is that they realize that the replacement package doesn't come from the distribution's repositories. Even worse -- if you enable the automatic installation of security updates without your confirmation, guess what happens... Every now and then you find yourself with a frozen laptop, because your xserver-xorg-core got replaced without you being aware of it :-/ Let's hope it's fixed in Feisty Fawn...
