[Bug 50320] Re: Kubuntu's system settings app doesn't handle file associations
I did not try this workaround. But, I think the layout of kubuntu's "system-settings" is good. Another option would be add the option in dolphin itself, just as konqueror had it. I agree with that point, KDE's default control centre is amazing enough for anyone. [Bug 114784] Re: Found the fix
I've found where the problem lies. The problem is caused due to the fact that the tar program reports error when both a directory and its files/subdirs are provided in the list of files to be extracted. Consider the following directory structure inside the archive (test.tar.gz). test | |-demo | |-index.html Now executing the following command, tar -xzf test.tar.gz test test/demo test/demo/index.html would generate the following error, tar: test/demo: Not found in archive tar: test/demo/index.html: Not found in archive tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors This is exactly the problem generated by ark. There is no necessity to include the children of the directory selected to be included in the list of files to be extracted, as the contents of the directories specified get extracted by default. tar -xzf test.tar.gz test would be sufficient. However, this is not true for other archive programs like zip. The problem at hand: In the source code of ark, the "FileListView" class (inside filelistview.cpp) contains the function "selectedFilenames()" which adds the children of the selected directory also to the list of selected files. This when used by "TarArch::unarchFileInternal()", causes the problem. Solution: This problem can be solved, if a piece of code is incorporated into "FileListView::selectedFilenames()" to check the mime-type of the currently opened archive and if it is a tar type, the children of the selected directories should not be included in the list of selected files. I hope this understanding would greatly help the developers in fixing the problem soon. I'm very sorry that I'm not able to solve the problem myself as I don't have the time to do fix it in the code. [Bug 163642] Maximum choosable resolution is too low even with nvidia driver
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kde-systemsettings I recently changed motherboard and started using the nVIDIA GeForce 6150 graphics card which comes bundled with ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard. When running from live CD a resolution of 800x600 is used while my monitor supports upto 1440x900. I thought this was because the binary nVIDIA fdriver was not installed. I installed to the hard disk and using "Restricted Driver Manager", installed the nvidia-glx-new package and restarted the system. Still the low resolution was kept. So I thought changing the resolution in "Monitor & Display" section will fix it. However, to my shock 800x600 and 640x480 were the only two resolutions offered in the settings module. The slider was at its right most end. Of course, Windows too did not pick the right resolution automatically after installing driver. At least I was able to set the right resolution graphically easily. Then I had to run "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" to fix it. Though I have managed it because I know how to fix it, this can be intimidating for new users wanting to try Kubuntu on their new hardware. This may even make them avoid trying Kubuntu in future. I have a suggestion (which may not be easily implementable). Just list all possible normal and widescreen resolutions and use the hardware detection only to choose the default resolution. If necessary the user must be allowed to choose a higher resolution. ** Affects: kde-systemsettings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Maximum choosable resolution is too low even with nvidia driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163642 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
