[Bug 241734] [NEW] Pidgin does not allow status containing URL
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pidgin 1) Ubuntu 8.04 2) Default Pidgin package that comes with Ubuntu 8.04, also available in the repositories 3+4) I wanted to change the status on my only account, a Yahoo account to a URL link. But this wouldn't be allowed. I can see my statusbox being updated, but, because I have myself in the list, even after some refresh-es of the list or even 10h of work, the status won't change to a link. Please contact me if anything else is missing or you need more data. [Bug 290313] Re: system-wide proxy does not apply to synaptic
I subscribe to S. M. Das 's post. I also bump into this two times a day, when connecting at the office and when connecting at home. Basically, when click-ing "Apply system wide", the http_proxy et al variables are not set to what they should. I am not familiar with how GNOME works, but this might come from the fact that Xorg is run in a terminal: basically, the flickering (that KMS is trying to remove) that you encounter when you restart Xorg is because Xorg is ran in a terminal, it exits (when you press Ctrl-Alt-Backspace) and then restarts again (xinit). From my previous experience variables set in one terminal window do not apply in the other terminal windows, so if the terminals that are launched (during the GNOME session) are "parallel" to the Xorg one (they have the same parent, I think they're called siblings) and are not children of the Xorg process/terminal (if you do in a terminal: $ export $HAITHAR=1 $ gnome-terminal & #and in the new window you do $ echo $HAITHAR it will print 1 ), they don't get the environment variable set. So, this might be the cause for which Firefox works, but the terminals don't. One more thing that comes to my mind now is that the terminals are actually calls to xterm and only have a graphical interface on top (xfce4-terminal, gnome-terminal etc.) and this might be an issue. So, this might not be such an easy-to-solve bug, but I might be wrong, of course. Would love to get this bug sorted and I am available for further details. cda...@idea:~$ uname -a Linux idea 2.6.30.1 #1 SMP Wed Jul 8 09:44:21 IST 2009 i686 GNU/Linux cda...@idea:~$ gnome-about --version GNOME gnome-about 2.26.1 I am actually using DWM (Dynamic Window Manager), but I am using the GNOME tool daily since there is nothing better out there. [Bug 290313] Re: system-wide proxy does not apply to synaptic
Apparently, gnome-network-properties (the command that you invoke) is part of the gnome-control-center ( http://git.gnome.org/cgit/gnome- control-center/log/?qt=grep&q=network-properties ). Also, I don't know if this problem is local (only in Ubuntu) or should be forwarded to the GNOME people responsible for this. [Bug 554106] Re: Gnome Appearance Properties dialog hangs when changing desktop effects
I don't know if I should open another ticket or just keep on talking on this one. I have Lucid 64bit, updated 10 minutes ago from the main repositories (the bugfix was included) working on a Dell laptop with an Intel 945gm video card, 2GB RAM, Intel Dual Core processor. I was experiencing same issue as before, but after the update, whenever I try to enable desktop effects (setting to normal), I get a small screen which says looking for drivers and after about 1 minute, it says that "Desktop effects cannot be enabled". Looking at the console, it reads: $ gnome-appearance-properties (gnome-appearance-properties:2398): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_display_sync: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed (gnome-appearance-properties:2398): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_display_sync: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed There is no available graphics driver for your system which supports the composite extension, or the current one already supports it. compiz (core) - Warn: Exceeded max texture size Launching fallback window manager (gnome-appearance-properties:2398): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_display_sync: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed I remember desktop effects used to work until now, even on my rusty, old, integrated 945gm. One more thing I should mention is that I am running a dual screen setup, the laptop monitor and a 23" external monitor (if that might help). [Bug 554106] Re: Gnome Appearance Properties dialog hangs when changing desktop effects
Update: Effects work (great) if only one of the two monitors is online, while the other one is disabled. If both of them are enabled, effects do not work. I tend to blame the graphics card and the graphics card driver for this, but, if I can help tracking down this issue, let me know.
