[Bug 235773] Re: Virt-install fails on Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop Dom0 (amd64)

2008-11-24 Thread Boris Derzhavets
Local Apache Simulated Mirrors provide an option to install PV DomUs in
graphical mode for RH (F8,CentOS 5.X) & Suse (OpenSuse 11.X) xen enabled
enabled distros at Ubuntu Hardy Dom0. View for details :-
http://lxer.com/module/newswire/view/110642/index.html
http://lxer.com/module/newswire/view/110728/index.html
Technique mentioned above also works fine for the most recent Xen 3.3.1rc1 port
to CentOS 5.2.

[Bug 362691] Re: XEN depends on Python 2.5

2009-05-14 Thread Boris Derzhavets
PLease be aware of changeset 19594 in Xen Unstable
http://xenbits.xensource.com/xen-unstable.hg?rev/bf946cc3008b
With this patch applied Xen Unstable been built on top of Ubuntu 9.04 Server
with python 2.6 (or python 2.5) now is able to start xend daemon, but appears
unable to start any DomU due to "Hotplug scripts failure to work". Kernel
2.6.30-rc3-tip (supporting Xen in Dom0) just sends one bakend driver's message
to dmesg report and report output freeze.
I am not python expert, but it seems like Python 2.6 ( 2.5 as well) setup is
incorrect on 9.04. All issues described above disappear if Xen Unstable along
with kernel 2.6.30-rc3-tip were built on top of Ubuntu 8.10 Server (Python
2.5). Suse's xen-ified kernel 2.6.27.5 behaves absolutely same way
as pvops enabled kernel .

[Bug 362691] Re: XEN depends on Python 2.5

2009-05-15 Thread Boris Derzhavets
I was running Jaunty Desktop. After porting Xen 3.3 via proposed i didn't find
any kind
of xenified kernel to load Dom0 and at the same time i saw that Hypervisor and
tools got
installed . It wasn't surprising after my experience with Ubuntu Intrepid
Server. Because that was exactly what happened on Ubuntu 8.10 Server. So i
just ported Suse's 2.6.27.5 xenified kernel from xensource.org . It works fine
on Ubuntu Intrepid Server under Xen 3.3 Hypervisor:-
   http://lxer.com/module/newswire/view/114358/index.html
I wonder what xenified kernel you were running for your Dom0. Could you post a
grub entry working for your Xen Host ? I suspect failure when install Xen 3.3
via proposed on my machine.

Notice, that direct port Xen 3.4 ( with 2.6.30-rc3-tip) to F11 (preview)
has been tested with no problems. Just no xen-lib and xen-lib dependent
packages: libvirt,libvirt-python,.. is a must . Problem been described seems
to me as python 2.6 implementation issue on Ubuntu 9.04 Server.

Jeremy's git repo. Due to newly built Xen Host dual boot with similar one
on top of Ubuntu 8.10 Server i just copied F10 PV profile to new Xen Host and
attempted to run

[Bug 362691] Re: XEN depends on Python 2.5

2009-05-17 Thread Boris Derzhavets
Honestly, i don't see much sense in forward porting Xen 3.3 , because it
doesn't support ( http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/XenParavirtOps) :-

1. The ability for the Xen hypervisor to load and boot bzImage pv_ops dom0
kernel
2. The ability for the Xen tools to use the sysfs memory ballooning support
provided by pv_ops dom0 kernel

Coming soon F11 (and even F10 in meantime) has Xen 3.3.1 with mentioned
feature back ported from Xen Unstable (3.4). View for instance:-

http://lxer.com/module/newswire/view/120005/index.html.

My major concern in details follows bellow has been posted on xen-devel
mailing list :-

Re: [Xen-devel] Changeset 19594 for Xen 3.4 build on Ubuntu Server 9.04

Per /usr/lib/python2.6/site.py:-

For Debian and derivatives, this sys.path is augmented with directories
for packages distributed within the distribution. Local addons go
into /usr/local/lib/python/dist-packages, Debian addons
install into /usr/{lib,share}/python/dist-packages.
/usr/lib/python/site-packages is not used.

It is different from /usr/lib/python2.5/site.py

With Config.mk:-

PYTHON =  python
PYTHON_PREFIX_ARG =

Packages gets installed into /usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages:-

r...@serverjaunty:/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages# ls -ld xen
drwxr-sr-x 9 root staff 4096 2009-05-15 10:35 xen

Xend starts fine, pygrub doesn't fail. Xen host seems to be OK.
But, "xm create -c DomU.cfg" doesn't work any more, even with xenified kernel.
DomU gets paused at startup and no matter of been unpaused or no, finally
crashes with message:-

"Hotplug scripts not working"

I believe Xen 3.4 has problem been installed on Ubuntu 9.04 Server (64-bit)
with python 2.6 installed with default settings. Same situation will happen on
any Debian derivative with Python 2.6.
If i am wrong about that, please advise.

Boris.

Porting Xen 3.4 Hyperviser&tools to Ubuntu Karmic Server would be a good job.
It would make some sense i guess due to ongoing development Xen Dom0 support
for vanilla kernel. Even if it wouldn't merge mainline Linux in next merge
window. PV_ops kernel is alive and stable enough (2.6.30-rc5-tip).

would install /boot/xen-3.3.gz, corresponding /boot/vmlinuz-xen

I've tried to install SNV89 and OpenSolaris2008/05 as KVMs with patched
virt-mnager.
Install runs fine, but both systems immediately panics at first boot:-
No dump device.
Notice that HVM SNV89 DomU works at Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop(Server) Dom0 (amd64)
I've also tried FreeBSD 7.0 (amd64) .Install runs fine, but both systems

[Bug 235773] [NEW] Virt-install fails on Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop Dom0 (amd64)

2008-05-29 Thread Boris Derzhavets
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: python-virtinst

Original Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop Dom0 (amd64) setup had been done per Todd
Deshane's
instruction:- http://deshantm.livejournal.com/29959.html
Functionality of Solaris Nevada Build 89 PV and HVM DomUs tested fine,
as well as F8 and WinXP HVM guests. Everything had been committed with
xen manager and corresponding python profiles.
All above works also on Ubuntu 8.04 Server Dom0 (amd64) , just no need to
remove network-manager.

Then i have tried to put virt-install in work and followed :-
   https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/C/libvirt.html
# apt-get install kvm libvirt-bin
# adduser $USERNAME libvirtd
Relogin :-
# apt-get install python-virtinst
No errors reported during installs. However , i have noticed references for 7.10
repositories during download.

2. /var/lib/dpkg just doesn't exist on image files . That is a reason.

Report bellow clearly demonstrates , that image files haven' been built
properly

As usual i added to /etc/fstab before loading Xen Host :-
none /proc/xen xenfs defaults 0 0
as did it on 9.04. Might it be a mistake on 9.10 ?

Removing "xenfs" entry from /etc/fstab per
http://xenbits.xen.org/xen-unstable.hg?rev/67201ec9ed79
allows to load Dom0 without message :-
/proc/xen is already mounted on xenfs ( xenfs is busy)

@User Virtual
Could you be so kind to provide *.diff.gz and *.orig.tar.gz files ( like for
3.4.1)
I understand how you make *.orig.tar.gz . Should be the same way as for
Fedora's xen-4.0.1.fc13.src.rpm.
Your link seems to be for myself a kind of charade. I need to understand what i
am doing,
otherwise
1. hg clone http://xenbits.xensource.com/xen-4.0-testing.hg
2. cd *.hg
Change $CONFIG_QEMU in Config.mk
3. git clone http://xenbits.xensource.com/git-http/qemu-xen-4.0-testing.git
qemu-xen.git
4. cd ../
5. cp -R xen-4.0-testing.hg xen-4.0.1
6. Create xen-4.0.1.tar.gz and replicate it over landscape - 30-40 min
procedure.

[Bug 378240] Re: Please merge xen-3.4 (3.4.0-2) from debian unstable

2010-03-26 Thread Boris Derzhavets
Packaging is a problem. Direct builds along with hg & git cloning was never
problem on Ubuntu 9.10,9.04 Severs
However, Xen Dom0 support or even just a recent Xen Hypervisor was NOT
integrated in Ubuntu Karmic Koala Server, Ubuntu Jaunty Server. Moreover :-
# apt-get install ubuntu-virt-server ubuntu-virt-mgmt
put vitrt-install & virt-manager in work with Xen Hypervisor (with
correspondingly modified /etc/xen/xend-config.sxp and setting Xen
as preferred hypervisor via root's .bashrc )
On Ubuntu Karmic Koala Server :-
Virt-install allows to install PV & HVM DomUs
Virt-manager allows to install PV DomUs via HTTP sources ( local or remote) and
manage any domain created via virt-install.
virsh been compiled against libvirt 0.7.0 just fails to create DomUs when
version of Xen goes to 4.0.
That the reason when i keep 3.4.3 on development boxes.
A lot of this stuff was published, view :-
http://www.linuxtoday.com/search.php3?query=derzhavets

[Bug 216176] Re: Xen entries not working under grub2

2009-09-08 Thread Boris Derzhavets
This issue with vmlinuz module's line :-
module (hd0,1)/vmlinuz-2.6.31-rc5 root=/dev/sda2 ro console=tty0
is addressed here
http://www.linuxtoday.com/news_story.php3?ltsn=2009-09-01-019-35-OS-HE-SV
However, the most recent pvops kernel 2.6.31-rc8 requires in meantime :-
multiboot (hd0,1)/xen-3.4.1.gz dom0_mem=1024M (2048M)
It doesn't work on Ubuntu 9.10 Server (alpha 4)
Same directive appears to be critical for loading 2.6.31-rc8 under Xen on
F11,F12(rawhide) via legacy grub.
Looks like grub2 regression.

[Bug 216176] Re: Xen entries not working under grub2

2009-08-30 Thread Boris Derzhavets
Xen 3.4.1 Xen Dom0 ( with 2.6.31-rc5 pvops) was setup top of Ubuntu 9.10 Server
(alpha 4),been installed on bare metal. It appears to be known issue with Grub2
when loading Xen host and came up already on Debian Lenny.
In case of Ubuntu 9.10 Server Xen host loading started and dropped to grub
prompt after gave up waiting for root device.
menuentry "Xen 3.4.1 Ubuntu 9.10"  {
set root (hd0,1)
multiboot (hd0,1)/xen-3.4.gz
module(hd0,1)/vmlinuz-2.6.31-rc5 root=/dev/sda2 ro console=tty0
module(hd0,1)/initrd-2..6.31-rc5.img
}
generated via /etc/grub.d/40_custom editing and running update-grub
Directive "root=UUID=" switched off via editing /etc/default/grub and
update-grub run.
Seems to be Grub2's multiboot implementation issue.
Mikmak's packages 3.4.1 work fine on 9.04, but won't help much on 9.10 with
Grub2 issue in place.

In meantime Nova launch instance and starts container. Attempting

UbuntuDocker is container launched via docker image Ubuntu Rastasheep (sshd),
which worked fine on 02/15/2015 and still working fine on host running stack.sh
instance, recoverable between reboots.

[Bug 1426293] Re: Devstack fails to load NovaDocker driver during stack.sh run on Ubuntu 14.04.2

2015-03-07 Thread Boris Derzhavets
I would guess that in commit 9d06520645f28d96ef905a709f8ff0c27842b58b :-

- utils.execute('ip', 'netns', 'exec', container_id, 'ifconfig',
- if_remote_name, ip, run_as_root=True)
+ utils.execute('ip', 'netns', 'exec', container_id, 'ip', 'addr',
+ 'add', ip, 'dev', if_remote_name, run_as_root=True)

The last statement should be followed by a kind of :-

+ utils.execute('ip', 'netns', 'exec', container_id, 'ip', 'link',
  'set', if_remote_name,'up',run_as_root=True)

[Bug 1426280] Re: Devstack (Libvirt driver) install on Ubuntu 14.04.2 floating IPs not working

2015-03-13 Thread Boris Derzhavets
Correct command is :-
$ iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE
It keeps floating IPs 100% usable and security rules 100% effective
Command like :-
$ iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 172.24.4.0/24 -j MASQUERADE
disables floating IPs if 172.24.4.0/24 is devstack public network

Thank you for cooperation.

RE: [Bug 1126513] Re: [MIR] usbredir-0.6-1

2013-10-28 Thread Boris Derzhavets
Tobias,

It's impossible to build usb redir enabled qemu version at Ubuntu because
package usb-redir
is NOT IN MAIN . I am fed up with Ubuntu struggling against spice and spice
server advantages.
I work only with Fedoras.
Take a look at http://community.redhat.com/up-and-running-with-ovirt-3-3/ for
instance.

Boris.

[Bug 823494] Re: Virt-manager upgrade 0.9.0 is not in sync with libvirt

@MikeB

Could you try PPA https://launchpad.net/~bderzhavets/+archive/lib-usbredir73
for spice/qxl W7 install. I just did it with no problems.
Qualification of bug as duplicate seems incorrect for me.

Clean install via
https://launchpad.net/~bderzhavets/+archive/lib-usbredir73 should not
have any KVM-SPICE. It installs QEMU_KVM 1.0 + USBREDIR ready to work with
SPICE 0.10.1
on clean Ubuntu Precise 64-bit. Installation instructions presume clean
instance of 12.04.

If you made install as instructed, work just via /usr/bin/kvm. No dash
spice is needed.

That's a core issue. Sorry, but clean instance 12.04 is required.
Otherwise, you are getting mess hardly predictable to behave.

Consequently additional "usbredir" patching on F16 is not a core reason, even
0.15.0 generate
the bug with W7. I always tested F15 and Ubuntu 10.04 as KVM guests and never
got this bug since 08/11/11. Might be upgrading spice protocol up to 0.9.1 is a
reason.
But, any way debianizing of oncoming libusb 1.0.9 and usbredir F16's packages
are requered to
build spice-gtk-0.7.39.

Sorry for typo. Should be :-

Might be upgrading spice server and client up to 0.9.1 is a reason.
0.9.0 is spice protocol version.

2011-09-23 Thread Boris Derzhavets
Yes, upgrading spice to 0.9.1 seems to be a root cause of bug.
I've crashed spicy's sessions opening properties windows in device manager W7's
and starting searching for driver in computer's neighborhood
After downgrading spice to 0.8.2 this trick doesn't crash spicy's sessions
anymore.
All my other efforts to crash spicy sessions fail as well.

LDFLAGS += -fPIC -pthread
Option -fPIC stop working. I don't get anymore pthread_*_* unresolved

In general, it looks as cc bug, if i am wrong please advise , what
the right syntax ( with LIBS )

1. To enable -fPIC
2. To link with -lpthread -lrt

at Launchpad
Yesterday, at least -lpthread worked. Now it's not working either.

[Bug 823494] Re: Virt-manager upgrade 0.9.0 is not in sync with libvirt

2011-08-18 Thread Boris Derzhavets
May be yes and might be no. Oneiric's X-Server can handle request for 32M
vram coming from QXL device qemu-kvm 's userland
process running Spice session. It works for install and for runtime. Patch is
completely harmless for libvirt. I believe it's understandable. But as soon as
amount of vram requested by QXL device comes up to 64M X-Server becomes
unable to handle this request. I carefully read xserver-xorg-video-qxl
description and went to conclusion that it's functionality is not connected to
this
problem. As far as Qemu-kvm 0.15.0, Spice, QXL are NOT legitimate guests of
Oneiric OS i cannot escalate the issue due to the
issue appears to be a problem of my private PPA's development.

(Spice-Gtk-0.6) popped up again. I saw this way of building Spice-Gtk-0.7 as
soon as spice-gtk-0.7.1-1.fc16.src.rpm
was out (about 07/30/11) along with dependency issue. Why I didn't work as I
could ?
I believe it's pretty much understandable. The final goal is to reproduce
F16's Spice-Gtk-0.7's files layout on
Debian or Ubuntu picking up right libraries and run ./configure with right
options for right packages.
Question of packaging is question of professional software design, nothing
else, and time been spent to perform this design.
