[Bug 1221857] [NEW] Wifi slowly degrades until no data transfer

2013-09-06 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
Public bug reported:

My wifi has been slowly degrading at random times to the point of no
data transfer but network-manager still shows connected. Only thing that
resolves it seems to be manually disconnecting from wifi AP via network-
manager and reconnecting also toggling N off in iwlwifi seems to have
some effect (maybe coincidence though)

I have ruled out the issue being a result of interference by checking
signal quality (iwconfig) when it occurs and my cable modem is online
with no issues and so is Wireless AP and other devices do not have this
issue.

2013-09-06 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
@Joseph:

This has been happening since the first 13.10 image was available and I
installed it so several months now. So it happened in 3.10 and is still
occuring in 3.11. I just had it happen again this evening and looked at
dmesg and saw some odd looking messages about iwlwifi:

[Bug 1221857] Re: Wifi slowly degrades until no data transfer

2013-09-06 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
Also it is my understanding looking at Redhat Bugzilla and Launchpad
that Intel still has not solidly implemented 802.11n in the iwlwifi
driver for all cards. Although I have tweaked with module settings such
as disabling N I'm unsure if the issue is even related since the
slowdown seems to happen even with N toggled off.

[Bug 969621] Re: [Dell Inspiron N411Z] Headphone Jack will not produce audio but internal will

2012-04-05 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Expected Result:

User plugs in headphones or speakers to audiojack on Dell 14z Laptop and
audio then is produced through plugged in accesory

  Actual Result:

No audio through accessory and volume dialog shows muted upon plugin.

  What I have done:
  1. I check alsamixer and made sure volume levels were all up and not muted
which did not resolve
  2. I checked my alsa conf and tested two dell hda-intel options which had
worked in the past when I had audio issues but that did not fix it.
  3. I tested a upstream kernel 3.3 and that didnt help either

My laptop is certified to work with Ubuntu 11.10 and 11.04 and the audio has
worked just fine from Alpha 1 all the way until Beta 2 was released and when I
did updates today audio stopped working properly.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

  apport-collect 974719

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-

[Bug 969621] [NEW] Headphone Jack will not produce audio but internal will

2012-03-30 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
Public bug reported:

[Bug 978635] [NEW] chromium-browser icon not working properly in Unity Launcher

2012-04-11 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
Public bug reported:

Expected Result:
When you launch a session of Chromium the icon in the Unity Launcher should
have a white arrow to the left of it to show a Chromium instance is running and
when you click said icon it should switch to Chromium instead of opening a new
session of Chromium.

running and clicking it has behavior inconsistent with other apps.

the OP specifically pointed out the leak is in Unity not Firefox as such
marking this incomplete for Firefox unless someone can substantiate that

[Bug 1165252]

2015-03-23 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
I dont use that version of Ubuntu anymore this was in 2013 so thats six
Ubuntu releases back. Chris Coulson or someone from the Ubuntu Mozilla
Team should confirm since this is a downstream bug thats marked
confirmed still.

Their bug squad would mark it invalid if it was no longer present.
Either way Mozilla does not invest much time in Linux stability and
fixes.

[Bug 1166124] Re: Ubuntu minimum system requirements needs to be updated

2013-10-27 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
@Svetlana

How is this issue fixed? I still see low-end system requirement specs
which would not provide a user friendly experience on Ubuntu. I suggest
we ask the Ubuntu Desktop or Community Team to look into this and
provide us with more specific system requirements that would give a
basic experience.

I know the specs currently offered would not cut it.

[Bug 1221857] Re: 8086:008a Wifi slowly degrades until no data transfer

2013-09-10 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
Hi,

Christopher that is actually just a bios update adding Windows 8 support
likely flashing to some sort of UEFI. Are you suggesting this might have
some benefit because I do not see anything other than Windows 8 support
being added.

My version was a Win 7 so mine is actually latest at A00.

[Bug 1227275] Re: [Sponsored Upload] Please update xubuntu-docs to 13.10 for saucy

2013-09-18 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
Filing a bug is not the proper process for seeking sponsorship of a
package being uploaded. I spoke with Knome earlier and after talking
with two different core devs it was explained that since Xubuntu has
developers with upload rights that it would be preferred if those devs
uploaded the Xubuntu Docs.

[Bug 1227275] Re: [Sponsored Upload] Please update xubuntu-docs to 13.10 for saucy

2013-09-18 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
@Jeremy,

Thanks for correcting me. Although considering I already checked with
two core devs one who happens to be on the Release Team and they felt
that since Xubuntu has its own devs with upload rights and that they
defer to them then perhaps sponsorship not as a matter of process but
preference is not the best route.

[Bug 810398] Re: Typo in /usr/lib/perl/5.10/List/Util.pm makes compilation fail

2012-04-12 Thread Benjamin Kerensa
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
