[Bug 520281] [NEW] Please merge revelation-0.4.11-5 (universe) from Debian unstable

2010-02-10 Thread Bart Veldstra
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: revelation

Changes:
 revelation (0.4.11-5) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Added VCS information to debian/control
   * Backup file before save (Closes: #524471)
   * urldecode file names (Closes: #518085)
   * fix outdated-autotools-helper-file lintian warning
   * no longer build for python 2.4
   * fix patch-system-but-no-source-readme warning
   * New Standards-Version: 3.8.3
   * fix dh_desktop-is-deprecated warning

I have tried to do this myself, but I ran into trouble with autotools:
debian/rules calls autoreconf, undoing some dpatch changes in the
./configure and aclocal.m4. Also, once installed, python cannot find the
revelation module. This is a little bit over my head, so I'll leave it
for someone more competent in packaging than I am.

I had trouble doing the merge (see #520281), so I just tackled the
individual problem as a temporary solution. Certainly a merge would be
preferred.

[Bug 485089] Re: Revelation applet icons missing, the drop down menu doen't show the icons left to the entry name

2010-04-23 Thread Bart Veldstra
The described workaround was for Karmic and is not available in Lucid.
In Lucid, you need to use the Configuration Editor for key
'/desktop/gnome/interface/menus_have_icons'. Just tick the box and all
menu's will show the corresponding icons.

About the bug itself, I admit I was a bit brief about my reasons for reopening
it. Let me explain:
The icons describe the type of secret, very much like the bookmark icons in the
Places menu. It gives the user additional information about the secret. For
example, I have a credit card (Credit Card) and online banking credentials
(Website) from a bank. Both have the entry name 'BankName', leaving the icon to
discern between the two secrets. This is significantly different from the icons
next to common menu entries like 'Save', 'Cut', 'Copy' in common menu's, where
the icon conveys the same information as the text next to it and is therefore
redundant.

The reason I referred to the gSTM bug fix was because I initially did
not realize this bug could be solved programatically, and the fix showed
me otherwise.

[Bug 545532] [NEW] [needs-packaging] Sfxr

2010-03-23 Thread Bart Veldstra
Public bug reported:

Sfxr is able to create retro sound effects for games. It is meant to
help entrants in speed-programming contests like PyWeek and Lundum Dare
to include basic sound effects. The idea was that they could just hit a
few buttons in this application and get some largely randomized effects
that were custom in the sense that the user could accept/reject each
proposed sound.

[Bug 520281] Re: Please merge revelation-0.4.11-5 (universe) from Debian unstable

2010-02-14 Thread Bart Veldstra
After some experimenting, I found that the patches that malfunctioned by
calling autoreconf appear to be obsolete with the new version of
revelation. I have listed them here with the reason why I think they are
obsolete:

010_intltool.dpatch: The new debian version lists the intltools as a package
dependency, using the systems inittool instead of creating its own. Removing
them is therefore not necessary anymore.
020_server_data.dpatch: the contents of server_DATA
('GNOME_RevelationApplet.server') is also listed in CLEANFILES, which is
already being removed by the 'clean-generic' target.
093_python26_transition.dpatch: This is a workaround for a bug in autotools,
which is already fixed for a while.

I have noticed that debian/rules only builds for Python 2.5 (PYVERS=2.5
in rules). This results in the error where the module cannot be found.
Using a small python snippet ('PYVERS=`python -c "import sys; print
'.'.join(str(i) for i in sys.version_info[0:2])"`'), this variable can
be determined by the builder, although I am not sure if this is the best
way to go about this.

These are my findings as an inexperienced packager. Can someone more
experienced with either the revelation package or packaging in general
(Hew?) check if my findings are correct? If they are, I think I can
perform the merge myself.

[Bug 485089] Re: Revelation applet icons missing, the drop down menu doen't show the icons left to the entry name

2009-12-21 Thread Bart Veldstra
This is intended behaviour, based on the default configuration for Gnome
in Karmic.

To change this, go to System->Preferences->Appearance->Interface and
tick the box with "Show icons in menus". Revelation, along with the rest
of the GTK applications, will display the entry icons again.

I will mark this bug as 'Invalid' since it is merely a configuration
problem.
