[Bug 151561] Re: Leadtek Winfast DTV1000T Remote Control

2008-01-21 Thread Arthur Hartwig
I made the source changes described above and then replaced the cx88*
modules on the Mythbuntu 7.10 system (not the system where I built the
modules). Do I also need to change the kernel timer frequency to 1000Hz
and replace all kernel modules on the Mythbuntu system?

How about configuring the remote? What remote do I choose in Mythbuntu
Control Centre Configuration? (DVT100T remote is not listed) Should I
just choose "No Remote Selected" and follow the procedure on
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/mythbuntu/+spec/lirc-gpio-alternative

[Bug 151561] Re: Leadtek Winfast DTV1000T Remote Control

2008-01-06 Thread Arthur Hartwig
I bought a Leadtek Winfast DTV1000T card in Australia just before
Christmas. The remote control included in the box is marked LEADTEK
WinFast Y04G0033, apparently yet another model of remote control. The
same marking was on the remote control that came with a LEADTEK WinFast
DTV2000H that I bought at around the same time but from another shop.

[Bug 438614] Re: apport-cli doesn't write output file

2009-11-01 Thread Arthur Hartwig
I tried apport-cli in a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10 and the K option
did cause it to write a file to /tmp as documented.

Without a fair bit of testing though, I'm not yet convinced Ubuntu 9.10
will meet my needs more effectively than Ubuntu 9.04.

[Bug 438614] Re: apport-cli doesn't write output file

2009-10-25 Thread Arthur Hartwig
I chose the K option because the system on which I was running the
command was not connected to the internet. So, my intention was to to
use the K option then copy the file to a USB stick and I would then take
the USB stick to a system connected to the internet and from that
system, lodge a problem report including the file I had previously saved
to the USB stick.

The V option is not particularly useful for that purpose either:

r...@ubuntu:~# apport-cli -f -p italc-master

*** Collecting problem information

The collected information can be sent to the developers to improve the
application. This might take a few minutes.

*** Send problem report to the developers?

After the problem report has been sent, please fill out the form in the
automatically opened web browser.

What would you like to do? Your options are:
  S: Send report (2.3 KiB)
  V: View report
K: Keep report file for sending later or copying to somewhere else
  C: Cancel
Please choose (S/V/K/C): V

  C: Cancel

r...@ubuntu:~#

I suspect the V output is sent through some sort of pager program
because it displayed almost a screen full then paused, displaying a ":"
on the bottom line of the screen at which point output did not resume
until I hit the space bar. Then I saw another screen full of information
with a ":" on the bottom line of the screen. This happened, perhaps 3
times in all, then the last line of the screen showed "(END)" at which
point I typed "q" and all the "V" output disappeared and I was prompted
"What would you like to do? Your options are:"

At the risk of stating the obvious, I would point out that though it
might be an interesting datapoint that apport-cli works on Karmic, it
doesn't help someone lodge bug reports on Jaunty. (My initial report
showed I was reporting on Jaunty.)

It would appear filter_shrink_X_MMX in ./src/fast_qimage.cpp was
compiled with the wrong instruction set options (generate code with SSE
instructions) or there is a compiler bug (it thinks pshufw is a MMX
instruction) or the source code has some poorly chosen assembler code.

[Bug 220706] Re: Boot fails on ata3: SRST failed (errno=-16)

2009-09-28 Thread Arthur Hartwig
I have the same problem. I successfully installed the Ubuntu Alternate
CD on a 80GB IDE drive plugged into a system with a VIA system and
CLE-266 chipset. This installation was not particularly reliable - it
would hang within a few minutes to a few hours.

I moved the IDE drive to a box with a Zida Create Bxe-ATX motherboard
and then saw the SRST failed message repeated during boot. Since I
couldn't get that to work I moved the drive to a box with a Asus P2B
motherboard and had the same problem. Then I moved the drive to a box
with a Tyan S1832D motherboard and two Pentium II CPUs. This system
worked fine and has stayed up without problem for more than 14 hours.
All three systems use the Intel BX chipset, the first two have an AWARD
BIOS while the working system uses an AMI BIOS.

As suggested in bug 382269 I'll try a beta build of Karmic and report
back.

[Bug 989346] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04 install crashes

2012-04-26 Thread Arthur Hartwig
Public bug reported:

The installation from CD crashed while reporting installing system or
soon after. The system was not connected to the Internet. I will retry
with the system connected to the Internet. I connected to the internet
after the report of the installation crashing and then clicked on the
Send button to send the crash report but I don't know if the report was
successfully sent.

I would be happy to attach the files /var/log/syslog and
/var/log/partman but it is not clear how to attach multiple files so I
will attach /var/log/syslog. Hope it is useful.

[Bug 989346] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 install crashes

2012-04-27 Thread Arthur Hartwig
I was doing a custom install with separate disk partitions for /boot,
/home and /. I repeated the install with the /boot partition size 192MB
instead of 40MB and the install successfully completed.

I presume the original install attempt failed due to /boot being too
small. It is a pity the install wasn't more informative about what it
was doing when it failed.

On a recent Ubuntu 12.04 install /boot had 51.5MB used. Suggest you
increase /boot to at least 100MB - requirements are likely to grow in
future versions since most things seem to need more space as time goes by.

[Bug 990765] Re: "Save" button always greyed out when creating openvpn connection

2012-08-12 Thread Arthur Hartwig
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04. I am attmpting to create the first OpenVPN in
Network Manager. I installed Network Management framework(OpenVPN
plugin) and network amangement framework(OpenVPN plugin for Gnome GUI).

I click on the network manager icon (side by side UP and DOWN arrow)
then click on VPN Connections -> Configure VPN... the VPN tab is
selected so I click on the Add button, in the Choose a VPN Connection
Type popup I select OpenVPN then click on the Create button. Then a new
window appears. It is labelled Editing VPN connection 1 and the
Connection Name box is filled in with VPN connection 1. I fill in the
gateway field, change Authentication Type to Password, fill in the
username, change Password type to Always Ask, leave CA Certificate as
None and the Save button and Available to all users check box remain
greyed out.

Presumably the GUI thinks there is some crucial piece of information
missing. For comparison I tried creating an Point-to-Point Tunneling
Protocol (PPTP) VPN and the Save button and Available to all users check
box changed from greyed out to "clickable" as soon as I entered
something in the Gateway box.

Please step me through creation of an OpenVPN with username and password
authentication or shared key authentication.

[Bug 550764] Re: [Lucid]Brother CUPS wrapper fails to change LPR driver settings

2010-07-14 Thread Arthur Hartwig
I have also seen this bug in Ubuntu Netbook 10.04 with a Brother MFC-5460CN
printer. The suggested workaround of
# sudo brprintconf_mfc5460cn -pt A4

before a print attempt worked for me.

Its not (yet) clear how often I need to invoke brprintconf_mfc5460cn:
after every system restart? after every printer power cycle? before
every job? ...
