[Bug 49950] Re: The error message: "The process for the system protocol died unexpectedly" triggers many problems, when logged in as graphical root in Kubuntu Dapper

2006-10-02 Thread Arjan
I am getting the same message and have similar problems.

I didn't have those problems in the beginning, but they started a week ago.
Prior to this problem I have worked on my firewall, installed clamav and
antivir. I am mentioning it because I don't know what other information to
provide and maybe other 'victims' did similar things.

Besides the message 'The process for the system protocol died
unexpectedly.', most notably Konqueror starts extremely slow (>3
minutes) and I have problem with launching the System Panel.

Any help is appreciated!

If somebody knows what information would be helpful I will provide it.

Kind regards,

Arjan

Just for the sake of clarity in my case I am not sure if the 'graphical
root' is causing this, although I did use:

kdesu kate .

every know and then.

2006-10-04 Thread Arjan
I think I know what is causing this problem: no internet connection or
more specific no open port to DNS. If the compu cannot resolve a DNS the
problems occur.

Can anyone confirm?

By the way I don't think the "The process for the system protocol died
unexpectedly" prblem should occur...

[Bug 479632] Re: VPN connection fails after one hour^H^H^H^H security-association idle-time expiry

2010-04-20 Thread Arjan
Hi, tested the patches from http://www.gossamer-
threads.com/lists/vpnc/devel/3442 ( makovick) and i've got succes!

as i described i had set my cisco vpn security assosiation on 120 to
pinpoint/debug it with ease.
and with that setup i seem to work without problems this time.

also i worked with this patched vpnc today whole day with vpnc to my
work, however i wasn't aware of any problems with that, it proved at
least also to be stable (enough).

For me this patch is a keeper, and i will notify makovick in person (i'm
not on the vpnc mailing list)

[Bug 479632] Re: VPN connection fails after one hour^H^H^H^H security-association idle-time expiry

2010-04-20 Thread Arjan
Hi, i see this bug is attached to a redhat bug.
I can state that the CPU issue described in the redhat bug is now what i
experienced, so i state this is different, and we should not wait on redhat
with this. and .. there hasn't been activity on there for 4 months.

personally i'd like to see this in lucid asap, but until then i keep my
patched version active.

I'm not sure i can vote for "Nominate for release" now.

however, lucid (beta) seems not to have a lower version, or i might

[Bug 505077] [NEW] Don't use Ubuntu Windows installer to create dual boot

2010-01-09 Thread Arjan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

I have used the Ubuntu Windows installer from
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-wubi to create a Ubuntu installation
next to my Windows Vista install. I have used all default settings.
Ubuntu alarms for security updates, which I -in trust that it nows what is good
for my system- install.
Now I had already for two times that I could not boot Ubuntu anymore after such
an update. After selecting 'Ubuntu' it showed only a grub prompt. I don't know
what it is, but that's why I report it here.

I then had to re-install Ubuntu, therewith LOOSING ALL MY DATA!

As I cannot access Ubuntu I cannot tell you any of the difficult details
you most probably want or need to know. The only thing I recall was that
every time the system crashed something like 'kernel-with a lot of
numbers' was in the updated packages list.

Last crash happened 2 days ago 2010-jan-07. Last re-install was 1 or 2
months ago.

I am not sure if this way of reporting is of any help to all you good
people who work hard to improve Ubuntu, but for none computer experts
like me these experiences unfortunately make me reconsider to switch to
Ubuntu.

Success!

[Bug 511515] [NEW] Network Manager, wifi interface + ipv6 autoconfig results in a 1 second connection

2010-01-23 Thread Arjan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hello,

After haveing a succesfull wifi connectin, id noticed i've no ipv6 ip.
With a "edit connections" -> "Wireless" -> "edit my AP" -> "IPv6 settings"
change method from disabled to Automatic.

I'd also noticed same bug description, however without a bugreport on:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/453099

With a standard NIC ipv4+ipv6 works just fine with network manager
What i expect is that my 1 second session becomes a permanent session, and not
disconnect when i like to use ipv6.

I'm not sure it is the network manager itself, of the gnome-frontend

Dear all,

I am experiencing a similar problem. However I would like to have a US

I agree with previous statement that this should be a high priority

Keep up the good work!

[Bug 479632] Re: VPN connection fails after one hour

2010-02-21 Thread Arjan
A me too message.
after playing with the sa lifetime on the vpn server, vpnc or hangs, or just
doesn't work anymore (blackhole) after the expire of the SA lifetime(er).

This is with ubuntu 9.10 (32 bits) and and new ubuntu 10.04 alpha both
runs 0.5.3 vpnc.

quite annoying, and ran many times into it, but wasn't able to pinpoint, but
with a SA liftime of 120 seconds (minimum in cisco ios) i can confirm it's a
rekey issue.
the first message in cisco ios (15.x) is :

%CRYPTO-4-RECVD_PKT_MAC_ERR: decrypt: mac verify failed for connection
id=17 local= remote= spi= seqno=0001

hope this will help to pinpoint a solution.

Regards,

Arjan Filius

2010-02-21 Thread Arjan
Changed the subject, as the 1 hour as mentionned is vpn server
dependent, what it actually triggers is the sa liftime

In cisco ios 15.x ios can trigger/guide this bug to a more debugable
time with :

cisco ios vpn server config:
crypto dynamic-map ..
 set security-association lifetime seconds 120

those 120 seconds are the minimum, but at least better than waiting for a
default value while debugging.
Hope that helps

[Bug 580185] [NEW] After update to 10.04, only low resolutions are supported

2010-05-13 Thread Arjan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

The update from 9.04 to 9.10 indicated a change to the open drivers
since my old video card (NVIDIA TNT2) is not supported anymore by the
proprietary drivers. However, the resolution remained at 1280x1024, as
it should be.

Recently, I upgraded to 10.04 and my monitor is no longer detected
correctly. System > Preferences > Monitors reveals "Monitor: unkown" and
only allows me to choose lower resolutions (the highest being 1024x768).

I have tried various changes to xorg.conf but to no success.

I think it is related to either this or the nouveau drivers, either a
bug itself or something went wrong in the upgrade process.

[Bug 571707] Re: fsck progress stalls at boot, plymouthd/mountall eats CPU

2010-06-04 Thread Arjan
Hello,

on my production ubuntu server (HP380G6) 10.04 LTS i noticed this same issue.
console was hanging on an fsck .. and when logged i (ssh) a saw the
" /sbin/plymouthd --mode=boot --attach-to-session
"
running.

ubuntu is completely uptodate (today) and having mountall 2.15
installed.

So with the fix of mountall is probably only a partial fix/workaround
as a possibel (not tested yet) i adjusted the /etc/default/grub with
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="" (removed the quiet and only option)

I didn't tested the workaround yet, and i'm not 100% now that everything
that has to be started is actually started (apart from getty's).

ps: actually i have no indication plymouthd was eating CPU at all,
haven's specially looked at that, but i see at the time i looked at it
the time consumes was stil 0, so below 1 second.

Regards,

Arjan Filius

[Bug 589647] [NEW] snmpd starts (and dies) before network is up

2010-06-04 Thread Arjan
Public bug reported:

Hello,

not sure to which package this belongs (snmpd/networking/upstart??).

just noticed with ubuntu-server arch x64 on HPDL380G6 2 CPU quad core
that snmpd (X5560 @ 2.80GHz) , snmpd which is bound on specific IP
adresses) starts actually after configuring the interface.

I suppose when (as default) snmpd binds on * it won't fail.

networking seems to start via upstart:

the resulting, relevant syslog:
Jun 4 11:22:55 hpdl380g6 snmpd[1113]: error finding row index in

Up, 1000 Mbps full duplex
Jun  4 11:22:56 hpdl380g6 kernel: [6.700053] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE):
prdif: link becomes ready

You can see using udev, to rename the nics, in this same second snmpd
starts, but in a second later the interface seems actually configured.

in case it matters, the prdif NIC is actually a trunk, didn't notice it
(yet) on another interface.

the part of he nic in /etc/networking/interfaces
iface prdif.382 inet static
 address XX.XX.XX.XX
 netmask 255.255.255.248
 vlan_raw_device prdif
 ip-proxy-arp 0
 ip-rp-filter 0

iface prdif.7 inet static
# post-up sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.prdif/7.autoconf=0
 address XX.XX.XX.XX
 netmask 255.255.254.0
 vlan_raw_device prdif
 ip-proxy-arp 0
 ip-rp-filter 0

iface prdif.7 inet6 static
# pre-up modprobe ipv6
 address XX:XX:XX::XX:XX
 netmask 64
 vlan_raw_device prdif
 ip-proxy-arp 0
 ip-rp-filter 0

So perhaps i made a mistake withing /etc/networking/interfaces, if not (and i
think that is) it is a BUG.

Restarting/testing is some efford as it is a production machine.

Regards,

Arjan Filius

Re: [Bug 535368] Re: gparted will not install on lucid Alpha3

2010-03-11 Thread Arjan
Hi,

a work-around for me.
What worked for me is just a:

sudo apt-get install libparted0
and then installed the latest 2.2 version

which let me then install libvirt-bin again afterwards.

This was good enough for me to get virt-manager/libvirt-bin/kvm going

Regards,

[Bug 1927863] [NEW] virt-v2v missing in ubuntu 21.04 (and 20.10)

2021-05-09 Thread Arjan
Public bug reported:

Hi,

trying to use virt-v2v to import a vmware vmx file into libvirt and trying to
use virt-v2v, but Can't find it.
Seems (no longer) packaged into libguestfs-tools, and can't find it elsewhere
in the repository.
Checked with ubuntu 21.04 and 20.10 both amd64.

manpage exists until groovy (20.10) on:
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/groovy/en/man1/virt-v2v.1.html.

Seems virt-v2v is no longer packaged, which seems not correct to me, so
reported it with this bugreport.

Regards,

Arjan

Exactly the same issue on HP Probook 4530s. Fresh installation of Ubuntu Gnome
16.04.
Need to press to powerbutton too for 5 sec to shutdown the machine.
And it worked very well with Xubntu 14.04 before.

[Bug 619712] Re: keepalived vrrp race condition and fix (versions 1.1.17 and 1.2.0 but perhaps all?)

2010-12-08 Thread Arjan
Hello all,

just want to let you known an upstream version 1.2.1 version is released with
my patch/fix included.
http://www.keepalived.org/changelog.html

Maybe you may want to reconsider this bug report/status and apply the fix to
current releases.
At least our data center is safe on this matter, is yours too?

[Bug 1116512] [NEW] Double-clicking password entry from overview freezes entire system

2013-02-05 Thread Arjan
Public bug reported:

I've had this behaviour for months on my Desktop, but I ignored it
because I thought it could be because of not correctly installing
something, or some side effect because I was running Ubuntu
(12.04-amd64) from a CF card.

But now I notice the same behavior on a fresh install of Ubuntu
12.04.2-amd64 on a laptop.

Occasionally the intended behavior occurs - after double-clicking an
entry from the password column in the overview, the password is
available from clipboard for 12 seconds), but almost always the entire
system freezes (KeePass clipboard timer does not appear).

The mouse pointer still works, but clicking has no effect. Pressing the
Windows key does bring up the Dash, and Ctrl+alt+del gives a logout
popup. But the only way out I've found is to open system monitor and
kill the mono process.

I installed with:
sudo apt-get install mono-complete

And keepass from adding ppa:jtaylor/keepass.
Running version: keepass2 2.20.1+dfsg-0ubuntu1~ppa1~precise1.

I actually did two similar installs, one from the Desktop Live CD, where
I had trouble from the start, and I did a re-install from Alternate
disc, where at first the double-click function seemed to be working, but
upon further usage it now freezes all the time.

[Bug 1033610] Re: Failed to submit review

2013-02-05 Thread Arjan
This is still a problem for me. I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 amd64, and
I'm trying to review the package emacs24.

I installed Emacs via ppa: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cassou/emacs.

Upon submitting the review:

[Bug 1116512] Re: Double-clicking password entry from overview freezes entire system

2013-02-05 Thread Arjan
I had xsel installed, but I went to check in the Software Center, and my
installed package was listed as xsel 1.2.0-1. But there is also an
xsel:i386 package (not shown by default - because I'm on a 64 bit Ubuntu
version?).

The two are not compatible; I removed the first and installed xsel:i386
and now it seems to be working fine.

[Bug 732560] [NEW] iptables with geoip does not work

2011-03-10 Thread Arjan
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 10.10 64 bits

basically what i want to do is:
# iptables -A FORWARD -m geoip --src-cc A1,A2 -j DROP

but i run into 2 issues with this:
1) the tools are missing for downloading and converting (geoip_csv_iv0.pl) the
databases, and
  the link (http://jengelh.hopto.org/files/geoip/) named
in the docu doesn't work, basically the tools are damn nasty to find.
2) when i managed 1) it still doesn't work, and i get a:
  # iptables -A FORWARD -m geoip --src-cc A1,A2 -j DROP
iptables: No chain/target/match by that name.

what i expect:
1) tools are included with xtables-addons (geoip_download.sh and
geoip_csv_iv0.pl) or
docu point to a link which contains those tools
2) this should just work perhaps after insmodding an ipt_geoip (and having
   the database files)

about 2):
I think there is no kernel (match) support:
#cat /proc/net/ip_tables_matches
state
multiport
udplite
udp
tcp
icmp

where geoip is missing
in /lib/modules is no ipt_geoip, or something which looks like it.

At the xtables support page ubuntu is listed in red (like many other
distro's):
http://xtables-addons.sourceforge.net/distro-support.php

Of course i can start the custom kernel/patching etc etc, but this is not
what i seek (for long term).
Please consider of fixing this.

This solves our issue, and we did some basic testing with good results, but it
may be wise an
experienced keepalived developer should have a look at it too.

PS: marked this as a security vulnerability as it _may_ bring a
system/datacenter
down, by just a single (vrrp) packet.
Posted this bugreport as well on the keepalived-de...@lists.sourceforge.net ML.

[Bug 310954] Re: no timestamp preservation on gnome-vfs CIFS mount in Jaunty alpha 2

This bug also affects me @ Lucid Lynx.

Mounting over SMB works fine, but using CIFS, timestamps are not
preserved. This is seriously annoying!

[Bug 599340] [NEW] ipv6 static address lost after ifconfig down/up ipv4 stays

2010-06-28 Thread Arjan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netscript-2.4

Hello,

using static configured ipv4 and ipv6 in /etc/networking/interfaces with
ubuntu 10.04LTS 64 bits

like:
iface bck-int--eth1 inet static
 address 119.72.176.36
 netmask 255.255.255.240
 ip-proxy-arp 0
 ip-rp-filter 0

iface bck-int--eth1 inet6 static
 address 2C00:1388:::3
 netmask 124
 ip-proxy-arp 0
 ip-rp-filter 0

which works fine after a reboot, but when executing a manual "ifconfig
bck-int--eth1 down" and up afterwards the ipv6 address gets lost.

hereby the output of a scenario, where you can see the steps. and what
goes wrong. In the end i need a "ifconfig down" (again) folowed with
ifup "bck-int--eth1" to get my ipv6 address back

a ^C to interrupt doesn't work.

and also a manual:

i'm not sure what changed, didn't do realy much with ldap, but i'm
pretty sure it just started without problems

for some reason it looks just it won't start as daemon anymore.

[Bug 611526] Re: package slapd 2.4.21-0ubuntu5.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 143

2010-07-30 Thread Arjan
Hi,

first of all, just started my laptop, again which runs the ldap, and noticed no
hanging ldap startup, but also no running process.
tried by hand, bu no hangs, just an error (as below).

as requested, copied the DB_CONFIG file, i've seen this DB_CONFIG message
before, but for my purpose it didn;t matter much

now after coping (DB_CONFIG) i get:

r...@arfi-laptop:/etc/init.d# /etc/init.d/slapd start
Starting OpenLDAP: slapd - failed:
@(#) $OpenLDAP: slapd 2.4.21 (Jul 28 2010 11:13:04) $

daemon: bind(10) failed errno=2 (No such file or directory)
slapd stopped.
connections_destroy: nothing to destroy.
r...@arfi-laptop:/etc/init.d#

my /var/log/syslog says:
Jul 30 18:35:42 arfi-laptop slapd[3860]: @(#) $OpenLDAP: slapd 2.4.21 (Jul 28
2010 11:13:04)

Jul 30 18:35:42 arfi-laptop slapd[3860]: connections_destroy: nothing to
destroy.

another tip, to disable debugging by emty-ing the SLAPD_OPTIONS= in
/etc/default.slapd, results in a little other message:
r...@arfi-laptop:/etc/init.d# /etc/init.d/slapd start
Starting OpenLDAP: slapd - failed.
The operation failed but no output was produced. For hints on what went
wrong please refer to the system's logfiles (e.g. /var/log/syslog) or
try running the daemon in Debug mode like via "slapd -d 16383" (warning:
this will create copious output).

Below, you can find the command line options used by this script to
run slapd. Do not forget to specify those options if you
want to look to debugging output:
  slapd -h 'ldap:/// ldapi:///' -g openldap -u openldap -F /etc/ldap/slapd.d
r...@arfi-laptop:/etc/init.d#

now, debugging again but then manually:
r...@arfi-laptop:/etc/init.d# slapd -h 'ldap:/// ldapi:///' -g openldap -u
openldap -F /etc/ldap/slapd.d -d 16383
@(#) $OpenLDAP: slapd 2.4.21 (Jul 28 2010 11:13:04) $
bui...@crested:/build/buildd/openldap-2.4.21/debian/build/servers/slapd
ldap_pvt_gethostbyname_a: host=arfi-laptop, r=0
daemon_init: ldap:/// ldapi:///
daemon_init: listen on ldap:///
daemon_init: listen on ldapi:///
daemon_init: 2 listeners to open...
ldap_url_parse_ext(ldap:///)
daemon: listener initialized ldap:///
ldap_url_parse_ext(ldapi:///)
daemon: bind(9) failed errno=2 (No such file or directory)
slap_open_listener: failed on ldapi:///
slapd stopped.
connections_destroy: nothing to destroy.
r...@arfi-laptop:/etc/init.d#

so it looks like it will complain about the ldapi:///

after removing the ldapi:/// it just seems starting fine
r...@arfi-laptop:/etc/init.d# slapd -h 'ldap:///' -g openldap -u openldap -F
/etc/ldap/slapd.d
r...@arfi-laptop:/etc/init.d# ps aux|grep slapd
openldap 3912 4.7 10.9 2751228 435380 ? Ssl 18:44 0:00 slapd -h
ldap:/// -g openldap -u openldap -F /etc/ldap/slapd.d
root 3918 0.0 0.0 7620 932 pts/0S+ 18:44 0:00 grep
--color=auto slapd
r...@arfi-laptop:/etc/init.d#

Basically i never looked at the ldapi:/// but as i read now it's an IPC
connector which should be faster then a regular socket.
attached a strace output , created as:
 strace -o /tmp/strace.txt -f slapd -h 'ldap:/// ldapi:///' -g openldap -u
openldap -F /etc/ldap/slapd.d

ant attached the strace.txt file.
it looks like it's about the folowing:
4092 unlink("/var/run/slapd/ldapi")= -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
4092 bind(9, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/var/run/slapd/ldapi"}, 110) = -1
ENOENT (No such file or directory)

Regards,

[Bug 218391] Re: installer crashes after mounting some filesystems on /target

2008-06-14 Thread Arjan Kon
Yes, it is.

I suspect it has to do something with grub: i tried to install without
grub, and there was no problem. (Except that i did not manage to boot,
grub error 15, also chroot and grub-install did not work).

With grub installed on hd0 this are the results. (One can select (hd0,0)
to (hd0,9) for grub install at step 7 of the installer, but not any
higher number? Has this something to do with it?)

mount gives this: (in the mean time i have formatted sda8 to ntfs, so a little
difference)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw)
tmpfs on /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/volatile type tmpfs (rw,mode=0755)
tmpfs on /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/volatile type tmpfs (rw,mode=0755)
varrun on /var/run type tmpfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,mode=0755)
varlock on /var/lock type tmpfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,mode=1777)
udev on /dev type tmpfs (rw,mode=0755)
devshm on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
tmpfs on /tmp type tmpfs (rw,nosuid, nodev)
gvfs-fuse-daemon on /home/ubuntu/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon
(rw,nosuid,nodev,user=ubuntu)
/dev/sda11 on /target type ext3 (rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro)
/dev/sda7 on /target type reiserfs (rw)
/dev/sda9 on /target type ext3 (rw)
/proc on /target/proc type none (rw,bind)
/dev on /target/dev type none (rw,bind)

Just ask for more information, and i will give it. (And faster than this
response)

[Bug 155251] Torrentflux shows wrong filesize for files over 4GB

2007-10-21 Thread Arjan Smit
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: torrentflux

When using torrentflux to download a file over 4GB the main screen displays the
correct size but the 'directory' screen shows a wrong size. It is a known
limitation of PHP that filesizes over 2GB are causing strange things. The
torrentflux package (version 2.1 seems to be included in Ubuntu 7.04 but I
checked the 2.3 package on sourceforge and the same filesize code is still
there). The sollution (that i found) is to make the following modifications:
in the file functions.php change the function file_size($file) to the following:
==
   $size = (float) exec("ls -l ". escapeshellarg( $file ) ." | awk '{print
$5}'");
==
i.e. remove the check whether filesize($file) reports a problem and remove the
escaped double quotes for the exec command (as the escapeshellarg($file) will
encase the string in single quotes already) (note thet this "escapeshellarg()"
is not present in the 2.1 or 2.3 sourceforge package)

Also change the dir.php file as follows:
Search for "$arStat[7] =" (without the double quotes obviously)
Change the following line:
=
   $arStat[7] = ( $arStat[7] == 0 )? file_size( $dirName . $entry ) :
$arStat[7];
=
to read as follows:
=
   $arStat[7] = file_size( $dirName . $entry );
=
i.e remove the check whether lstat($file) has reported a problem on the
filesize (stored in $arStat[7]) and just use the file_size() function always.

I noticed this when trying to download the "ubuntu-7.10-dvd-i386.iso"
file from the torrentflux page that torrentflux had grabbed for me (i
could only see and download the size that was above 4GB (i.e. about
200MB instead of about 4296MB))

[Bug 218391] [NEW] installer crashes after mounting some filesystems on /target

2008-04-16 Thread Arjan Kon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

ubuntu live cd 20080416
click install, manual partion, choose /dev/hd11 as root. At 80-90% there came a
few warnings that the disk /target is full. Installer disapears somewhat later.

mount give this, last lines are strange:
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
sysfs on /sys type sysfs (rw)
tmpfs on /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/volatile type tmpfs
(rw,mode=0755)
tmpfs on /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/volatile type tmpfs

varrun on /var/run type tmpfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,mode=0755)
varlock on /var/lock type tmpfs (rw,noexec,nosuid,nodev,mode=1777)
udev on /dev type tmpfs (rw,mode=0755)
devshm on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
tmpfs on /tmp type tmpfs (rw,nosuid, nodev)
gvfs-fuse-daemon on /home/ubuntu/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon
(rw,nosuid,nodev,user=ubuntu)
/dev/sda11 on /target type ext3 (rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro)
/cdrom on /target/media/cdrom0 type none (rw,bind)
/dev/sda10 on /target type ext3 (rw)
/dev/sda7 on /target type reiserfs (rw)
/dev/sda8 on /target type ext3 (rw)
/dev/sda9 on /target type ext3 (rw)

i did not mount them.
1 note: at the install screen, at step +-4 i choose the resize option, then
choose go back. Then I choose manual editing. Then, after pressing forward, i
have to choose again manual editing. It is a bug which is already in ubuntu for
a few months. Don't know if there is a relation between them.

[Bug 218391] Re: installer crashes after mounting some filesystems on /target

2008-04-17 Thread Arjan Kon
I can reproduce it very easy: click install, a few forward clicks, choose
manual partition, choose sda11 as /, format as ext, and again a few forwards.
at 90% the installer mounts sda7-10 on /target and warnings come, at 94% the
installer quits.
cd integrity is ok.

(and sorry for my English)

I do not yet see any change in the phrase "Guided - use entire disk" nor a
warning except the one mentioned above, which can be easily overlooked..

[Bug 107417] Re: ata1: port failed to respond

2007-05-09 Thread Arjan Kon
I changed my 10 gb western digital hard disk for a 6 gb Maxtor, and it
boots. I was able to install feisty on that disk.

I get some similar errors while booting, but not the port failed to
respond error.

p3 1ghz 815 or 815e chipset. Western Digital harddisk. (Compaq deskpro).
Edgy and Dapper boots fine.

Compiled a kernel from kernel.org, kernel 2.6.20.6, this one works fine.
I get /dev/hdaX with this one and not /dev/sdaX as Feisty should do.
