[Bug 254468] Re: MASTER: momentary video garbage upon drawing new objects (particularly in KDE)

2009-01-28 Thread Andy Goossens
I just installed KDE 4.2 and it is even worse now. It happens when
scrolling in Konsole, flickering or disappearing taskbar entries when
hovering them, ... It looks different, but it still is garbage. The
garbage is permanently visible (until you can make it redraw).

But... it will only appear when you have a particular window focused.
e.g. Eclipse or OpenOffice.org Writer (but not with OOo Calc, Impress or
Draw).

[Bug 281808] Re: Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10)

2008-10-31 Thread Andy Goossens
I've got the same issue on Youtube. It is remarkable that the Flash
plugin is loaded (noticeable by a short gray 'flash' on the place where
the video is supposed to be, and right clicking on that empty space
gives you a context menu). So I guess that once the Flash plugin is
started, I gets stuck somewhere.

It works in Firefox.

[Bug 281808] Re: Flashplugin not working in Konqueror (8.10)

2008-11-03 Thread Andy Goossens
I found a workaround: just install the flashplugin-nonfree package from
hardy-backports.

Steps:
* go to
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-backports/i386/flashplugin-nonfree/download
* download the package from a mirror
* sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree
* sudo dpkg -i
flashplugin-nonfree_10.0.1.218+10.0.0.525ubuntu1~hardy1+really9.0.124.0ubuntu2_i386.deb
* open a new Konqueror window and... enjoy :-)

The bug is probably due to an interaction problem between the new Flash
plugin and Konqueror.

I have a T61p with model number 6460 and nVidia Quadro FX 570M. I'm
running a 32-bit Kubuntu 8.04 (KDE3 version). Latest BIOS updates are
installed.

I reverted all my previous modifications and applied this fix. And now
resuming after suspend to RAM just works :-) I did not (yet?) see the
white screen.

BTW: Resume after hibernation is still broken.

[Bug 222265] [NEW] Kaffeine cannot install libdvdcss-i386 codec

2008-04-25 Thread Andy Goossens
Public bug reported:

I recently upgrade Gutsy to Hardy. I wanted to play a video in Kaffeine.
It advised me to install the libdvdcss-i386 codec, which I accepted.

Then opens a Konqueror window with URL
"http://kubuntu.org/packages/libdvdcss-i386.deb"; and an error message
"Object not found!". It looks like Kaffeine wanted to install the DEB
package, but could not find it on the kubuntu.org website.

[Bug 222265] Re: Kaffeine cannot install libdvdcss-i386 codec

2008-04-26 Thread Andy Goossens
I was using Kaffeine 0.8.6-0ubuntu8 in a KDE3 desktop.

Quoting the responsible code in /usr/lib/kaffeine/install-codecs:
libdvdcss_url = 'http://kubuntu.org/packages/libdvdcss-' + distro_arch + '.deb'
os.system('kfmclient exec ' + libdvdcss_url)

I see two solutions:
- or put the package online at that location
- or fix the code and update the Kaffeine package

I can confirm that the "sudo /etc/acpi/sleep.sh force" workaround works.

Resuming after suspending from KDE's start menu, from KDE's (Guidance)

[Bug 144440] show password dialog automatically after resume

2007-09-24 Thread Andy Goossens
Public bug reported:

I filed this bug against kdesktop because this is the package to which
kdesktop_lock belongs. This could also be considered to be an acpi
"bug". This bug is filed against Kubuntu 7.04 "Feisty Fawn" with KDE
3.5.6 packages.

When I resume my laptop it would be nice to automatically show the
password dialog so I can immediately start typing my password.

The way it is now:
- resume laptop
- nothing happens, screen stays black
- after some time you realize that screensaver might be running, you press any
key or move the mouse to wake up the screensaver
- password dialog is displayed

Actually, all this is already implemented, but it does not work for KDE.
Just take a look at /etc/acpi/resume.d/90-xscreensaver.sh This however
depends on the presence of (a running) xscreensaver. No such process is
running in KDE (but you'll see "/usr/bin/kdesktop_lock --forcelock" and
"/usr/bin/kblankscrn.kss -root").

Steps to fix this bug:
1) find a way to poke kdesktop_lock so that it shows the password dialog. I
found no such way using DCOP. And I don't consider "dcop kdesktop
KScreensaverIface quit" to be an option as it does not ask the password at all
:-(
2) adapt /etc/acpi/resume.d/90-xscreensaver.sh to use the solution found in
step 1)

I am also affected by this bug (for quite some time now actually).

I was so fed up with this situation that I decided to do something about
it: I created a patch which adds support for password protected keys.

Here it is:
http://reviewboard.kde.org/r/6054/
You need to apply this patch to a "trunk" checkout from KDE's Subversion
repository.

My patch is still pending review, so the fix is not yet upstream.

[Bug 1957155] Re: Fish has incorrect XDG_DATA_DIRS variable

2022-02-21 Thread Andy Goossens
Hm, I suspect that the update broke my desktop environment (Plasma
Desktop).

Earlier today I received the 2.54.3+21.10.1ubuntu0.1 update. And when I
rebooted, my Plasma Desktop was broken. Applications that were still
open worked (Firefox, Konsole), but task panel was absent, icons
missing, ...

Note that I am using Fish shell as my default shell. When I use Bash
however, the Plasma Desktop is working fine.

When logging in on TTY with Bash as default shell:
XDG_DATA_DIRS == /usr/share/local:/usr/share:/usr/lib/snapd/desktop
When I log in with Fish:
XDG_DATA_DIRS == /usr/lib/snapd/desktop

That would explain why my desktop got broken.

To reproduce:
* create a new user account "test"
* start Plasma session with user "test", everything looks fine
* execute: chsh -s /usr/bin/fish
* log out
* log in again, things are broken

Workaround: Use Bash as default shell. Configure your terminal emulator
to use Fish.
