apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: pulseaudio Ubuntu 9.10. pulseaudio 1:0.9.19-0ubuntu4 I have two sound cards - motherboard integrated HDA Intel and Creative Sound Blaster Audigy ES in PCI slot. Also I have TV-tuner Beholder M6, which also populates the list of sound devices. Audigy is connected to 5.1 amplifier through analog output jacks. In sound preferences I've choose "Analog Surround 5.1 Output + Analog Stereo Input" profile for Audigy card. On "Output" tab I've selected the Audigy card for output. Connector switch is set to "Amplifier". See screenshots. When I start playing some music through (for example) Rhythmbox everything works great: all five satellites and subwoofer works. When playback ends (because of my command or end of playlist or closing the player) and then started again by me, the subwoofer isn't work anymore. To get it work again, I need to go to sound preferences and switch soundcard in "Output" tab to internal and then back to Audigy. I tried changing profile to "Analog Surround 5.1 Output" and others with no luck. Every subwoofer-enabled profile give same symptoms. Player software is also unrelated. [Bug 494099] Re: subwoofer stops working after playback ends
Hm. Since I've installed a fresh copy of Lucid RC, the configuration "Analog Surround 5.1 Output + Analog Stereo Input" as long as all other 5.1 configurations is disappeared from "Sound preferences dialog" (see attached picture). So I can't even enable appropriate configuration to test if bug is still there or resolved. [Bug 532095] Re: Changing left/right balance in sound-preferences changes the output volume slider when indicator-applet is running
With updated indicator-sound package on my Audigy ES ("5.1 surround output" profile) I have following results. Moving "balance" isn't changing "volume", so fixed. Moving "balance" moves "fade" just as in Steven Kuck report. Moving "balance" out of center position (a bit or more) makes sound noisy. If moving to the left, noise comes from front right and rear right speakers. If moving to the right, noise comes from the front center speaker and front right speaker. Moving "fade" out of center position (a bit or more) makes sound noisy. Noise comes from all speakers. Moving "subwoofer" full left makes sound noisy. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio Ubuntu 9.10. pulseaudio 1:0.9.19-0ubuntu4 I have two sound cards - motherboard integrated HDA Intel and Creative Sound Blaster Audigy ES in PCI slot. Hi Daniel... And again... "Won't fix". Won't fix because it risky? Risky to FIX it? Please, separate a problem and a solution. The problem is - subwoofer stops working. Proposed solution by miguel is - "enable-lfe-remixing = yes". Yes. The proposed solution maybe risky. But NO, the problem fix is NOT risky. The problem fix IS necessary. [Bug 518036] [NEW] Incorrect rendering of DVD buttons
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vlc It's known that DVD menu buttons is in fact subtitle images (http://dvdauthor.sourceforge.net/doc/spumux.html). A menu with buttons usually consist of three set of button images: general, highlighted and active. Highlighted image is shown, when button is hovered by mouse or selected with arrows. Active image is shown for 1-2 seconds after the button has pressed. General image is shown otherwise. The point of this bug is: VLC is NOT shows general image. So there is NO buttons visible until one will be hovered with mouse. Highlighted image is shown, but in wrong colors. I've attach small self-made DVD to illustrate the problem. There is a menu with three text-buttons: chapter1, chapter2, chapter3. General color of each one is white. Highlighted color is blue. You can compare how this menu shown in Totem and VLC. [Bug 668926] Re: can't resolve domain names starting with a dash (minus sign)
It's not so clear as it seems. RFC952 was written for plain old HOSTS.TXT method of network names resolution. Since then DNS appeared and RFC952 was appended and relaxed by other RFCs such as: - RFC2181 (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2181), section 11 says: "The DNS itself places only one restriction on the particular labels that can be used to identify resource records. That one restriction relates to the length of the label and the full name. The length of any one label is limited to between 1 and 63 octets. A full domain name is limited to 255 octets (including the separators). ... Those restrictions aside, any binary string whatever can be used as the label of any resource record." - RFC1123 (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1123), section 2.1 says: "The syntax of a legal Internet host name was specified in RFC-952 [DNS:4]. One aspect of host name syntax is hereby changed: the restriction on the first character is relaxed to allow either a letter or a digit. Host software MUST support this more liberal syntax." Not telling anything about a "minus" though. - RFC1035 (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1035), section 2.3.1 says: "When creating a new host name, the old rules for HOSTS.TXT should be followed. This avoids problems when old software is converted to use domain names." Please note that there is word "should" not "must". And the main reason to follow those rules stated is capability with _old_ software. Given that RFC952 is more than 25 years old and there ARE client software that is capable of handling not-rfc952-compliant domain names, some companies just USE those domain names. There are no reasons for them to NOT using it, because RFC1035 doesn't strict domain names to be RFC952 compliant. Let's go away from all those RFCs for a minute. What we have in real world? We have some real domain names with probably valuable information we can't visit from Ubuntu, and you say everything is okay? > If we have rules, we have to follow it, we are professional. [Bug 789649] Re: Transcode segfaults using vid.stab stabilization
