Adam Bruce, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1125759] Re: Intel integrated graphics boots in low graphics mode

2013-02-16 Thread Adam Bruce
"Does it boot up properly more often if you add 'plymouth.enable=0' to
the kernel boot options?"

So I removed the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and added plymouth.enable=0
to the boot options (after quiet splash - correct?)

And no, it does not boot up properly, it still goes to low graphics mode

[Bug 1125759] Re: Intel integrated graphics boots in low graphics mode

2013-02-19 Thread Adam Bruce
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 982889 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982889

Bryce, I have added sleep to lightdm.conf as mentioned in comment #5 in
bug 982889

This boots up perfectly everytime, even without the /etc/X11/xorg.conf
file I needed before

So I guess we can assume plymouth is the issue here, as detailed in bug
982889

I'll keep an eye on that report and let you know if it fixes this bug
when that one is fixed

Thanks for your efforts!

[Bug 982889] Re: X trying to start before plymouth has finished using the drm driver

2013-02-19 Thread Adam Bruce
I have added the PPA and installed the update

First restart went to low graphics mode

I then went to recovery mode to fix the errors, restarting after that
booted successfully

Restarting again boots to low graphics mode

I go to recovery mode again to fix the errors, restarting after that
boots successfully

This repeats everytime

I have attached /var/log/Xorg.0.log

[Bug 1131099] [NEW] Can not edit or add new bookmarks/places to nautilus

2013-02-21 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

Can not add a new bookmark.

  Reproduce:

According to the help menu, Go the folder I want to add > menu >
bookmarks > add new bookmark (but this does not exist)

  or

Menu > Bookmarks > There is a minus sign to remove, but no plus sign
to add new

Can not edit bookmarks

   Reproduce:

Menu > Bookmarks > Edit an existing entry to a new folder (Eg.
/home/brucey/Pictures to /home/brucey/Test). Then double click the name on the
left and you get an error message saying "Unhandled error message: Error when
getting information for file '/home/brucey/test': No such file or directory".
And it is not added to the bookmarks/places in nautilus

The unity quicklist menu also does not relate to the places listed in
nautilus

I know these should maybe be posted as separate bugs, but they seem
related enough to be be together

[Bug 1138152] [NEW] Applications launched maximised have gap down the right hand side

2013-03-01 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

To reproduce

- Launch nautilus, unmaximise it and then maximise it again
- Launch Firefox from the dock (it must launch maximised, so if it's not,
maximise it then close and launch again)
- Click on the very far right of the Firefox window, there is a small gap so
clicking will bring the Nautilus window to the front

I noticed this whilst trying to scroll in Firefox and then other windows
kept coming to the front, I didn't know why. If you set a blue wallpaper
for example you will see the gap on the right clearly.

If you maximise windows manually this does not happen. It only happens
when launching maximised windows. I believe this applies to all
applications

[Bug 1124661] [NEW] Intel integrated graphics will only boot in low graphics mode

2013-02-13 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

After successfully installing 13.04 on my Dell XPS 15z, I restarted the
laptop, successfully booting into Ubuntu with no issues.

Restarting after that then gives the 'System is running in low graphics
mode' message.

I get this everytime now. Have re-installed with latest build and same
issue.

I can only boot in recovery mode

Extra info:

Other dell users seem to be experiencing similar issues:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2115355

I installed and use the parameters mentioned here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Laptops/Dell/XPS/15z

I have an optimus card, which the Nvidia card should be disabled as it
does not work

Sometimes when booting in recovery mode it says there are errors on the
drive and would I like to fix them, I agree and it fixes them

[Bug 1119798] Re: unity quicklist entries for nautilus open behind gnome-terminal & or browsers like firefox, chromium

2013-02-13 Thread Adam Bruce
I confirm this bug.

Expanding on Doug's test cases, it is not application specific, but
dependant on whether you are interacting within the application itself
or selecting the the application window 'frame'.

To reproduce nautilus opening in front:

Open firefox
Drag the firefox window using the top panel to a new location (so it's the last
place you have clicked)
Right click nautilus dock icon, select Downloads
Nautilus will open in font

To reproduce nautilus opening behind:

Open firefox
Interact with the application, such as typing in the address bar (so it's the
last place you clicked)
Right click nautilus dock icon, select Downloads
Nautilus will open in behind

This is the same for all applications

test cases, may not happen first time but fairly consistent overall.
Open gnome-terminal, then open a nautilus quicklist from unity launcher
Open Firefox, then open a nautilus quicklist from unity launcher
Open chromium, then open a nautilus quicklist from unity launcher

Also seen somewhat from firefox's download window > open containing folder.
In this case opens on top but without focus
(there are other focus/stacking issues but those for another bug if a
repeatable action is found

[Bug 1124661] Re: SNA enabled causes Intel integrated graphics to only boot in low graphics mode

2013-02-13 Thread Adam Bruce
** Summary changed:

- Intel integrated graphics will only boot in low graphics mode
+ SNA enabled causes Intel integrated graphics to only boot in low graphics mode

** Description changed:

After successfully installing 13.04 on my Dell XPS 15z, I restarted the
laptop, successfully booting into Ubuntu with no issues.

Restarting after that then gives the 'System is running in low graphics
  mode' message.

I get this everytime now. Have re-installed with latest build and same
  issue.

I can only boot in recovery mode
+
+ UPDATE: In the ubuntu forums thread
+ (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2115355), jbicha, recommended
+ the following which fixed (or worked around) the problem
+
+ "Perhaps this is a problem with SNA which has been enabled by default
+ for raring.
+
+ Add (or edit if it already exists) /etc/X11/xorg.conf and I think this
+ is the code you need:"
+
+ Code:
+
+ Section "Device"
+Identifier "Intel Graphics"
+Driver "intel"
+Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
+ EndSection
+
+

  Extra info:

Other dell users seem to be experiencing similar issues:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2115355

I installed and use the parameters mentioned here:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Laptops/Dell/XPS/15z

I have an optimus card, which the Nvidia card should be disabled as it
  does not work

Sometimes when booting in recovery mode it says there are errors on the
drive and would I like to fix them, I agree and it fixes them

[Bug 1125069] [NEW] Sync menu 'Off' button goes off screen & 'On' button resizes menu

2013-02-14 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

I can't get a screenshot of what I mean so I hope I can describe it

Reproduce 'Off' button bug:

- Click Sync menu drop down
- Click the 'On' button, switching it 'Off'

What happens:

- The 'Off' button overlaps off the edge of the screen slightly

Reproduce 'On' button bug:

- Click Sync menu drop down
- Click the 'Off' button, switching it 'On'

What happens:

- The right edge of the menu becomes too small and leaves a gap between
the menu and the edge of the screen. When clicking the menu again, there
is no gap.

I know these are not major bugs, but would make ubuntu more polished if there
were fixed :)

[Bug 1125164] [NEW] Multiple dock icons appear for System Settings

2013-02-14 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

Hard to reproduce as this is very inconsistent.

- Open System Settings

- Click any settings option
- Click 'All Settings' to go back
- Click another (or the same) settings option
- Click 'All Settings' to go back

.. keep repeating and eventually you will see multiple (usually 2,
sometimes 3) System Settings icons in the dock

this only sometimes happens, sorry I can't be more accurate

Please see video of it happening. The frame rate is a little slow but
you can see the multiple options sometimes show up. I can rightclick on
both options.

[Bug 1125190] [NEW] Two dash options for 'Printer'

2013-02-14 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

When searching the Dash for 'Printers', two printer options are shown
with the same image

One is the printer option via System Settings and one is System-Config-
Printer

This is confusing to users as to which one is supposed to be used

I don't have any proposed solution, it's just confusing. Maybe rename
System-Config-Printer to something different in the Dash?

[Bug 1125202] [NEW] Can not open multiple calculator windows via the dock

2013-02-14 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

Can not open multiple calculator windows via right clicking in the dock

Right clicking the dock icon should show 'Open new calculator' option.
Currently you have to open a new window via the dash

Maybe this is a wishlish item? But as you can do the same for the other
default apps; LibreOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, Terminal & Gedit, it
seems logical that calculator should also have the same option

[Bug 1124661] Re: SNA enabled causes Intel integrated graphics to only boot in low graphics mode

2013-02-14 Thread Adam Bruce
Would you mind expanding on why this is invalid and what I can do to
validate it?

Isn't it only in nomodeset because I posted it in recovery mode?

I can now boot normally with disabling SNA, should I repost the report
once I've booted normally?

Thanks,

Adam

[Bug 1082244] Re: [Dell XPS 15z] Need kernel parameter acpi=noirq to boot

2013-02-14 Thread Adam Bruce
As per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Laptops/Dell/XPS/15z

Adding as parameter (instead of acpi=noirq)

acpi_backlight=vendor dell_laptop.backlight=0

fixes (or works around) the issue

** Tags removed: bios-outdated
** Tags added: raring

** Summary changed:

- [Dell XPS 15z] Need kernel parameter acpi=noirq to boot
+ [Dell XPS 15z] Needs kernel parameter 'acpi_backlight=vendor
dell_laptop.backlight=0' or 'acpi=noirq' to boot

** Description changed:

  Same issue as experienced here:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1072891

I have been asked to report it as a new bug.

System will not boot without 'acpi=off' as the parameter.
+
+ UPDATE: Adding 'acpi_backlight=vendor dell_laptop.backlight=0' instead
+ of 'acpi=noirq' as the parameter also fixes (or works around) the issue

[Bug 1125759] [NEW] SNA enabled causes Intel integrated graphics to only boot in low graphics mode

2013-02-14 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

After successfully installing 13.04 on my Dell XPS 15z, I restarted the
laptop, successfully booting into Ubuntu with no issues.

Restarting after that then gives the 'System is running in low graphics
mode' message.

I can only boot in recovery mode

UPDATE: In the ubuntu forums thread
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2115355), jbicha, recommended
the following which fixed (or worked around) the problem

"Perhaps this is a problem with SNA which has been enabled by default
for raring.

Add (or edit if it already exists) /etc/X11/xorg.conf and I think this
is the code you need:"

Code:

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

Extra info:

This is an repost of bug 1124661 as I submitted that in recovery mode

Other dell users seem to be experiencing similar issues:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2115355

I installed and use the parameters mentioned here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Laptops/Dell/XPS/15z

I have an optimus card, which the Nvidia card should be disabled as it
does not work

[Bug 1125759] Re: SNA enabled causes Intel integrated graphics to only boot in low graphics mode

2013-02-14 Thread Adam Bruce
I'm hesitant on doing this, as I did try it for 12.04 and it only caused
more issues.

Having the Nvidia disabled has worked fine for 11.10, 12.04 and 12.10

Although if you're sure it's the issue, I will try and find another hard
drive to test it on?

[Bug 1139803] [NEW] Software updater hangs/stops responding when clicking an update that has lots of version changes

2013-03-02 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

When viewing available updates, if I click on an update that has lots of
version changes, then update manager will hang for a while/not respond.
It will then come available again. I have noticed this a few times with
raring

This only happens when clicking updates with lots of version changes, it
does not do it with others. I assume it's taking a while to handle/load
the changes.

This tends to happen with linux kernel updates as they contain a lot fo
changes. Also Python3 today. I will leave a comment with the number of
version changes that seem to cause the issue. Of course you will need to
wait for a large update to reproduce.

(I have an i7 processor so it's not slowing due to slow hardware)

I guess this would only really effect development users as final
releases wouldn 't contain so many changes? So maybe a low priority,
although it should be handled better in an ideal world

I agree that it's not just the fade in, the whole of the dash is very
sluggish.

Disabling blur makes it snappy again

[Bug 982889] Re: X trying to start before plymouth has finished using the drm driver

2013-03-04 Thread Adam Bruce
I ran apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-core yesterday and realised the
patched hadn't been applied when I originally posted my Xorg logs.

I saw a update today from your PPA and now I see

xserver-xorg-core:
  Installed: 2:1.13.2-0ubuntu3~lp982889~1

So it has now been applied. I guess this was due to the building problem
for amd? It now shows as built successfully.

I know you said my error may be slightly different to the OP, but I
thought I would post as it may be useful and this time I can see the
"drm device not ready (#), sleeping for 20us" messages you mentioned.

Mine seems similar to Franck's. I'm also seeing 'setversion 1.4 failed'.

It did not boot successfuly though and went to Low Graphics mode. There
is a crash report if you want me to upload that as a report. But I don't
know if it will just be the same as: bug 1130667 - let me know if you
want me to post it

xserver-xorg-core:
  Installed: 2:1.13.2-0ubuntu3~lp982889~2

Which I guess means the newer build is installed?

I'm having more success with this one. Before it was failing everytime,
now it fails about 50% of the time.

I have got logs of the successful boot and failed boot if that helps

[Bug 1054054] [NEW] Highlighting / selecting text will unselect if done slowly

2012-09-21 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

- Open new libreoffice document
- Type 1234567890
- With your mouse, slowly highlight the text from left to right (or vice versa)
- The text will unselect mid way

I have found that if selecting text area quickly, then it works. It's almost
like it's on a timer of about 1 second, if you haven't selected the text in
that time it seems to unselect.
