[Bug 2099811] Re: Os-prober segmentation fault one message for each partition on same PC

2025-03-04 Thread John Johansen
Right, once the reason for the use of the mount namespace was understood
it was clear that it is needed. The current proposed fix is to not
disable mount namespaces but create a more limited proper profile. This
is now being worked on and will hopefully be ready soon.

[Bug 2100590] Re: [SRU] Segfault when releasing a thread with Python 3.9+

2025-03-04 Thread Skia
On the new MoM server:

```
$ dpkg-query -W libapache2-mod-python
libapache2-mod-python   3.5.0+git20211031-0ubuntu3
```

Then
```
wget -O - -S
"https://merges.ubuntu.com/new_mom_py3/main.html?showProposed=true&showMergeNeeded=true&showLongBinaries=true";
```
This is working just fine, with all the pages loading consistently.

In `/var/log/apache2/error.log`, I no longer see the following error that was
produced consistently before:
```
[Fri Feb 28 10:16:40.107571 2025] [core:notice] [pid 929192:tid
139989923239808] AH00051: child pid 929201 exit signal Segmentation fault (11),
possible coredump in /etc/apache2
```

Loading and playing with comments in the following page works fine too:
https://merges.ubuntu.com/new_mom_py3/main.html . This means that the
server side Python code is processed correctly by `mod_python`, and not
just served directly by apache2.

Everything is fine from my point of view, and autopkgtest is now happy
(armhf issue was on the infra, and is now fixed).

ip7-drivers LGTM!

I couldn't find a matching upstream commit, only a huge feature drop in
[1], that contains those changes. But the fix is similar to what we have
for ipu6-drivers and seems sensible. I've improved the DEP-3 headers [2]
and bug subject + description a little bit to reflect this (e.g. "ipu6"
vs "ipu7" typo).

Uploaded into plucky-proposed.

[Bug 2099881] Re: Failed to build against v6.13

Thanks for the detailed bug description (reproducer), this was super
helpful!

ip6-drivers LGTM! Just a few nitpicks that I applied to the patch for
you, to make context easier accessible. Please consider following DEP-3
patch headers in the future and adding "lp-XXX" prefix to your patch
files, following best practice.

Uploaded into plucky-proposed.

[Bug 2100089] Re: rdma-core in latest Ubuntu LTS does not support Microsoft Azure Network Adapter

2025-03-04 Thread Benjamin Drung
Review: The private function ibv_cmd_reg_dmabuf_mr changes. So we also
need to update the version for this symbol in debian/libibverbs1.symbols
and let new libibverbs1 declare a breakage on the old ibverbs-providers.
I'll add that and sponsor it.

[Bug 2100775] Re: python3-minimal wants to install twice when installing amd64 and arm64 packages

2025-03-04 Thread Stefano Rivera
Can't reproduce any issue here.

The two libpulse-dev packages are comfortably co-installable, without
Python getting in the way at all:

libpulse-dev:arm64 is already the newest version (1:16.1+dfsg1-2ubuntu10.1).
libpulse-dev is already the newest version (1:16.1+dfsg1-2ubuntu10.1).

Something else is trying to install an arm64 python on your machine.

[Bug 2100857] [NEW] Snapdragon X Elite: Sync concept kernel changes

2025-03-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

We are planning to ship 25.04 with Snapdragon X Elite hardware running out of
the box.
Installer and meta packages are already updated the last thing missing is
syncing kernel changes and configuration from our linux-qcom-x1e kernel used in
our concept image
(https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-24-10-concept-snapdragon-x-elite/48800)
into the generic plucky arm64 kernel.

[Bug 2100719] Re: Not able to change fan speed

2025-03-04 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
"But why is it not possible by default?"
Probably because these Super I/O chips generally use the ISA bus and require
probing. It's not like a PCI device where the dev can just alias the PCI ID.
Then you have chips like the it87 family which often require force loading and
could have side effects ("This is inherently risky since it means that both
ACPI and this driver may access the chip at the same time. This can result in
race conditions and, worst case, result in unexpected system reboots.")

"How should one know to run the mentioned command in order to make pwmconfig
work?"
The error message tells you that you need an appropriate kernel module. If you
think it should explicitly suggest sensors-detect, maybe open an issue at:
https://github.com/lm-sensors/lm-sensors/issues
I'll re-title this bug in case anyone at Ubuntu wants to patch it.

** Package changed: ubuntu => lm-sensors (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: lm-sensors (Ubuntu)
   Status: Invalid => New

** Summary changed:

- Not able to change fan speed
+ pwmconfig could suggest sensors-detect when no pwm-capable kernel modules are
found

2025-03-04 Thread Khairul Aizat Kamarudzzaman
Hi, basically i dont have a specific steps or actions that caused the
problem as it occurred while I'm using the desktop normally.

I didn't face these issues with the recent package updates in plucky.
Will update if it occurs again in the future.

[Bug 2100778] Re: Asus Prime B550 plus requires acpi=off which turns off SMP

2025-03-04 Thread Richard Fritsch
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected noble

** Description changed:

  1) Ubuntu Release
  No LSB modules are available.
  Description:Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS
  Release:24.04

  2) Package version
  6.8.0-54.56

  3) What you expected to happen
  I expected the system to be able to boot with ACPI.

  4) What happened instead
  The booting process got stuck halfway through (about when the console adjusts
it's resolution) if the kernel wasn't given the "acpi=off" parameter. However,
with this parameter, SMP doesn't work and my CPU is reduced to a single core
from 16 with HT.

  I followed this guide for troubleshooting:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingACPI
  The system refused to boot even with "acpi=ht".

[Bug 2085140] Re: Patch Joystick subsystem regression

2025-03-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Attachment added: "Test case"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libsdl2/+bug/2085140/+attachment/5862276/+files/test.py

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  When the user is in the `input` group and has access to the inodes under
  `/dev/input/`, running a simple "SDL_Init(SDL_JOYSTICK)" takes
  significantly longer in 2.30 than in earlier releases, on the order of
  seconds compared with fractions of seconds.

-
  [Test Case]
  1. Install `python3-sdl2` and `python3-uinput` packages with:

-$ sudo apt install -y python3-sdl2 python3-uinput
+    $ sudo apt install -y python3-sdl2 python3-uinput

  2. Download the script used by RetroPie, which uses SDL2 and uinput to
  simulate a keyboard with:

- curl -o test.py https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/p/7SZ4Z7X9Sb/.
+ wget
+
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libsdl2/+bug/2085140/+attachment/5862276/+files/test.py

  3. Run the repro script by executing:
-sudo python3 test.py
+    sudo python3 test.py

  It will log two lines, before and after 'SDL_Init' is run so you can
  measure the delay. It should be a fraction of a second.

  [Where Problems Could Occur]

  * Mis-detected input devices
  * Issues during input detection
  * Performance issues before / after this change

  [Other Info]

  The slowness is believed to be due to calls to SDL_UDEV_GetProductInfo()
  for each input device starting with commit 3b1e0e1, rather than only
  joystick devices as had been done previously. Specifically, IsJoystick
  calls SDL_UDEV_GetProductInfo(), which then performs a walk of all
  devices via udev_enumerate_scan_devices. The performance impact occurs
  during the (synchronous) *closing* of the device file, which can take
  0.01 to 0.5 sec. For a system with 1 joystick but 20-ish other input
  devices, this can represent a 20-fold increase in time consumed during
  detection.

  The fix is to avoid opening device files by filtering out ones that are
  not joystick or accelerometer classes, or if the vendor+product doesn't
  indicate a Steam virtual game pad.

  [Original Report]

  Hello,

   the 2.30.0 SDL2 release included in 24.04 LTS (Noble) contains a
  regression [1] in regard to the initializaton of the Joystick/Gamepad
  detection. When the user is in the `input` group and has access to the
  inodes under `/dev/input/`, running a simple "SDL_Init(SDL_JOYSTICK)"
  takes about 0.5 sec per device node.

   In my/our case (https://retropie.org.uk), we're using a Python3 script
  that uses 'python3-sdl2' and 'python3-uinput' to create a virtual
  keyboard device from inputs received from a gamepad. When launching a
  game, the user has the opportunity to open a 'dialog' based menu and
  configure the game, but if the initialization takes a long time, the
  input from the gamepad is lost and the game configuration is not
  started.

   Please consider including the patch for the reported issue [1] - it's
  in [2] - or upgrade to 2.30.3 which contains the fix [3].

  best regards,

[Bug 2098838] Re: apparmor appears to deny wpasupplicant on plucky, breaking wifi

2025-03-04 Thread Fabio Marconi
Hi all
After getting into this, today I performed a full upgrade from oneiric and all
went well, the wifi still working. Before the distro upgrade I upgraded
wpasupplicant to the latest version in the repo (proposed?) but strangely it
was detected as not original package. After that no more problems.
Regards

I see the same on Ubuntu 25.04 (plucky) with GNOME:

Acquired the name: com.ubuntu.WhoopsiePreferences

real1m0,801s
user0m0,008s
sys 0m0,021s
```
[Bug 2100900] [NEW] Virtualbox installation fails on Noble with snapped kernel (TPM FDE enabled)
2025-03-04 Thread Bartosz Woronicz
Public bug reported:
Currently I am not able to build and sign Virtualbox drivers on the ubuntu with
snapped kernel (boot-managed-by-snapd).
The directory is read-only.
Maybe we should have this handled by building the dkms somewhere else,
but even if so, then how would I be able to sign them and insert?
I attached the Virtualbox log
..
# LD [M]  /tmp/vbox.0/vboxdrv.ko
This article suggest to build your own kernel and ship with these modules, but
for regular user seems like an overkill.
Is there an easier way ?
