[Bug 2100720] [NEW] Jammy: Lutris Proton Experimental version needs update
Public bug reported: As outlined here, there is a new Proton Experimental version (29-01), that fixes several game issues and crashes in "No man's sky" (in this case crash error "137028_0x1CE638_GX", when trying to donate to a guild in "normal" game mode): https://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/595139465034372815 I'm using Linux Mint Virginia (21.3), which is based on Ubuntu Jammy and uses its "lutris" repository version 0.5.14-2. [Bug 2100715] Re: Poor comatibility with DOOM 2016 on Ubuntu 24.04.2
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Libera.chat. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2100715/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 2099693] Re: FFe: install papers instead of evince in Ubuntu Desktop by default
** Description changed: Impact == The Ubuntu Desktop Team would like to switch the default standalone PDF viewer app from Evince to Papers. Papers was forked from Evince and appears to be significantly better maintained than Evince currently. GNOME is expected to switch their default app for GNOME 49 later this year. The Ubuntu Desktop team does not see a need to wait until then. This was pre-announced at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu- desktop-25-04-part-1-the-plucky-roadmap/49621 and reaffirmed at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-25-04-mid-cycle-roadmap/55690 Why This Wasn't Done Sooner == The required MIR was filed before Ubuntu 25.04 Feature Freeze but it also needed a review by the Ubuntu Security Team. https://launchpad.net/bugs/2097727 Papers didn't arrive in Ubuntu universe until February 2 because the Debian NEW review took a couple months. Affected Packages = The ubuntu-desktop metapackages (from ubuntu-meta) will have the simple swap. - xdg-desktop-portal-gnome needs a patch (probably applied in Ubuntu before accepted upstream) so that the Print Preview feature in gtk4 apps and portaled apps continues to work. Currently, evince's previewer is hard-coded. - https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/xdg-desktop-portal-gnome/-/merge_requests/216 + gtk+3.0 ought to be patched to support using papers for the Print + Preview feature instead of only evince. This patch has not been prepared + yet. - A similar change is needed for gtk+3.0 but has not been prepared yet. - (Both libreoffice and gedit bundle their own print previewers but there - are many other gtk3 apps that support printing). Importantly, we need + Both libreoffice and gedit bundle their own print previewers but there + are many other gtk3 apps that support printing. Importantly, we need gtk+3.0 to support both papers or evince depending on which is installed because Ubuntu Cinnamon includes evince but not Papers. (I think this feature is actually broken for many other Ubuntu Desktop Flavors which ship the evince fork named atril while gtk+3.0 is hard-coded to only use evince.) Other Info == I was told recently that RHEL 10 (currently in Beta) has also made the switch. Fedora is considering the switch for their 42 release (expected to be released soon after Ubuntu 25.04) so there is cross-distro interest in switching even before GNOME officially switches. The Ubuntu Desktop Team might patch the .desktop file for Papers to display as "Document Viewer" since that is what is intended to happen once GNOME officially switches. Papers will be part of Ubuntu's language packs so there should not be a translation issue with this change. Ubuntu 25.04 has not reached User Interface Freeze yet so this change is not part of this freeze exception request. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2099693 Title: FFe: install papers instead of evince in Ubuntu Desktop by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/papers/+bug/2099693/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2087292] Re: drag and drop in 24.10 does not automatically work via taskbar bar
It seems this is affecting more than dragging items from nautilus to the launchbar (and/or onward from there), it is also affecting simple file drag-drops between nautilus windows, or even between tabs _within_ the same nautilus window. It seems Drag-and-drop in nautilus on Ubuntu 24.10 is just completely broken. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open a nautilus window and navigate to a writable directory containing files (e.g. ~/Downloads). 2. Open another nautilus window and navigate to a different writable directory (that is not the Desktop, e.g. ~/Documents). 3. Click-and-hold on a file from nautilus window 1, drag it overtop nautilus window 2 and release. OBSERVE (bug): file is moved to the Desktop (i.e. ~/Desktop) EXPECTED: the dragged/dropped file moved from directory of window 1 into directory of window 2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2087292 Title: drag and drop in 24.10 does not automatically work via taskbar bar To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/2087292/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2100719] [NEW] Not able to change fan speed
Public bug reported: I am used to change the fan speed by running the following command: ```sudo pwmconfig ``` Unfortunately, i get the following output: ``` # pwmconfig version 3.6.0 This program will search your sensors for pulse width modulation (pwm) controls, and test each one to see if it controls a fan on your motherboard. Note that many motherboards do not have pwm circuitry installed, even if your sensor chip supports pwm. We will attempt to briefly stop each fan using the pwm controls. The program will attempt to restore each fan to full speed after testing. However, it is ** very important ** that you physically verify that the fans have been to full speed after the program has completed. /usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed ``` So, somehow the fan speed cannot be changed by pwmconfig because it states `/usr/sbin/pwmconfig: There are no pwm-capable sensor modules installed`. [Bug 2100730] [NEW] ls Undercounts Files/Directories on btrfs Kubuntu 24.04
Public bug reported: Description: On a fresh Kubuntu 24.04 installation using the Btrfs filesystem, the ls command fails to list all files and directories correctly after extracting tarballs. The find command, however, accurately shows the full count of files and directories. This issue was first observed with zstd compression enabled on Btrfs and persisted unchanged after switching to lzo compression as part of troubleshooting efforts. Steps to Reproduce: Install Kubuntu 24.04 with Btrfs, initially configured with compress=zstd (later changed to compress=lzo during troubleshooting). Download a tarball, such as the Tor Browser tarball: bash wget https://www.torproject.org/dist/torbrowser/14.0.6/tor-browser- linux-x86_64-14.0.6.tar.xz Extract the tarball: bash tar -xJvf tor-browser-linux-x86_64-14.0.6.tar.xz Compare the outputs of the following commands: ls -l tor-browser/ | wc -l (undercounts files, e.g., shows ~20 instead of ~295). find tor-browser/ -type f | wc -l (shows the correct file count, e.g., ~295). Expected Behavior: The ls command should list all files and directories, matching the contents of the tarball and the output of the find command. Actual Behavior: The ls command lists significantly fewer files than actually exist (e.g., 20 instead of 295), while find correctly identifies all files. System Information: OS Version: Kubuntu 24.04 Kernel Version: 6.8.0-54-generic Btrfs Version: [Run btrfs --version in your terminal and insert the output here, e.g., v6.8] Mount Options: defaults,subvol=@,relatime,discard,compress=lzo (initially compress=zstd, switched to lzo with no effect) Additional Notes: The issue occurs consistently across multiple tarballs (e.g., SQLite, Tor Browser). No relevant errors appear in dmesg or journalctl related to Btrfs or file operations. Switching from zstd to lzo compression was attempted as a troubleshooting step but did not resolve the issue. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2100730 Title: ls Undercounts Files/Directories on btrfs Kubuntu 24.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2100730/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2085162] Re: Bluetooth devices can't reconnect after reboot or sleep
I haven't seen the package yet after enabling proposed, but I assume that has something to do with the armhf failures. So I manually downloaded the bluez package from the launchpad page and installed it on my laptop. It's working perfectly. My bluetooth headphones connect reliably again after waking the laptop up from sleep, across reboots, and after "service bluetooth restart". My desktop is still running the old bluez package, so I can retest once the armhf build issues have been resolved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2085162 Title: Bluetooth devices can't reconnect after reboot or sleep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bluez/+bug/2085162/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug was fixed in the package fence-agents - 4.16.0-2ubuntu1 --- fence-agents (4.16.0-2ubuntu1) plucky; urgency=medium * Merge with Debian unstable (LP: #2085231). Multiple users have reported similar issues in various forums: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1519369/internal-mic- not-working-on-dell-precision-5490/1541865#1541865 or https://github.com/intel/ipu6-drivers/issues/228#issuecomment-2673246547 - Update 2025/02/25: The issue seems to come from the microphone with the - F4 key on the keyboard (mute/unmute) When I switch from secondary to - primary F keys, the microphone behavior changes and the microphone - works, even if the microphone is not working before... + Update 2022/03/02: The problem reappeared after a week of normal usage. + It happened after switching to Windows. However, the usual method of toggling the Fn keys between primary and secondary functions did not work this time. + I tried reinstalling all relevant packages (PulseAudio, PipeWire, ALSA, etc.) without success. + I then went into the BIOS to disable the microphone and observe Ubuntu's behavior with the microphone turned off. After rebooting, the microphone worked normally using the primary Fn key… yet in the BIOS, the microphone was still disabled. + + + Update 2025/02/25: The issue seems to come from the microphone with the F4 key on the keyboard (mute/unmute) When I switch from secondary to primary F keys, the microphone behavior changes and the microphone works, even if the microphone is not working before... Furthermore, after switching to PipeWire, all audio sinks are stuck in the SUSPENDED state, and no audio is output. ** Steps to reproduce:** - Upgrade to Linux image 6.11.0-17 from 6.8.0.52. - Restart the system. - Attempt to use the internal microphone, either in the audio panel or using pavucontrol. - Check the status of the audio sinks with pactl list short sinks, and observe that they are in the SUSPENDED state. ** Expected behavior:** The microphone should work correctly, and audio sinks should be active and capable of outputting sound. No problem on Windows. ** Actual behavior:** - The microphone shows fluctuating, saturated signals with crackling audio. - Audio sinks are stuck in the SUSPENDED state and cannot output sound. **Logs:** - ALSA errors: snd_pcm_avail after recover: Relais brisé (pipe) indicates issues with ALSA. - PipeWire logs: journalctl --user-unit=pipewire --follow shows that PipeWire and related components (pipewire-pulse, libpipewire, etc.) are installed, but the services (like pipewire.service) are either missing or fail to start. - Jackdbus error: mod.jackdbus-detect: Failed to receive jackdbus reply: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown. **Other investigations:** - PipeWire Installation and Services: - Verified that PipeWire and related components were installed. - Tried listing and restarting PipeWire services, but the expected service units were not found or failed to start. **ALSA Logs:** - Checked logs (journalctl -xe | grep alsa) and found errors like snd_pcm_avail after recover: Relais brisé (pipe) pointing to issues with the SoundWire device on the Meteor Lake-P HD Audio Controller. **Forced Driver Options:** - Disabled the SOF (Sound Open Firmware) driver by adding options snd_intel_dspcfg dsp_driver=1 to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf to force the use of the legacy snd_hda_intel driver. - Also tried reversing the setting (dsp_driver=0) to force the SOF driver, but neither change solved the problem. **Reinstallation and Updates:** - Reinstalled PipeWire and related packages. - Checked for and installed BIOS and firmware updates. - Considered using older kernel versions (mainline or older versions) to address potential compatibility issues, but these steps did not fix the issue. **System Information:** - Distribution: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS - Kernel version: 6.11.0-17 - PulseAudio : 16.1 - PipeWire version: 1.0.5 - pipewire-pulse : 1.0.5-1ubuntu2 - SOF firmware version: 2023.12.1-1ubuntu1.4 - Hardware: DELL Precision 5690 with Meteor Lake-P HD Audio Controller **What I’ve tried so far:** - Purging and reinstalling pulseaudio, pipeWire, pipewire-pulse, linux-firmware, ubuntu-drivers-common, firmware-sof-signed, alsa-utils. - Resetting ~/.config/pulse and ~/.config/pipewire directories. - Adding options snd_intel_dspcfg dsp_driver=1 and dsp_driver=0 to force different drivers. - Installing BIOS and firmware updates and experimenting with older kernel versions. $ lspci | grep -i audio

[Bug 2099895] Re: [FFe]: python3-samba depends on python3-cryptography which is not available on i386
** Description changed: The bin:python3-samba package built from src:samba 4.21.x needs a new dependency on bin:python3-cryptography[1]. This version of samba is - currently in plucky-proposed. + currently in plucky-proposed, and was uploaded before Feature Freeze. src:python-cryptography[2] has last built i386 packages for bionic. Focal and later no longer have i386 builds. As a result, this dependency is unsatisfiable in plucky/i386. In comment #1 I checked if we could stop building src:samba for i386 entirely, and the short answer is no. Therefore, for i386, my plan is to stop building python3-samba. Reverse-dependencies: $ reverse-depends python3-samba Reverse-Recommends == * samba [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el riscv64 s390x] * samba-common-bin Reverse-Depends === * adsys [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el riscv64 s390x] * freeipa-client-samba [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el riscv64 s390x] * samba-ad-dc [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el riscv64 s390x] * samba-testsuite [amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el riscv64 s390x] Packages without architectures listed are reverse-dependencies in: amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x So for i386, bin:samba-common-bin is the only reverse dependency, and my PR will drop that. I'm not sure why that is not captured here[3]: python3-samba * Extra seed Samba, the server, is not meant to be installable on i386. There are no server packages even. The only i386 packages provided are libraries and some smaller client utilities, but definitely not a server. Therefore I believe it's ok to stop building bin:python3-samba(i386). However, I do not know of a way to verify this before uploading and letting the Ubuntu machinery try to migrate it. [Bug 2100719] Re: Not able to change fan speed
You probably need to load the kernel module for your Super I/O chip before running . Try this first: sudo modprobe -v w83627ehf If pwmconfig then works, make the module load automatically at boot: echo "w83627ehf" | sudo tee /etc/modules-load.d/w83627ehf.conf If pwmconfig still doesn't work, run: sudo sensors-detect (Removing alsa-driver package because this isn't a sound issue.) ** Package changed: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2100719 Title: Not able to change fan speed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2100719/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
