[Bug 2099668] [NEW] Please backport cockpit 333 into oracular/noble/jammy
Public bug reported: Cockpit has a standing backport approval since https://bugs.launchpad.net/xenial-backports/+bug/1686022 . For the last couple of years I have uploaded them myself, as I had been an Ubuntu core developer from ~ 2004 until a few months ago. I voluntarily left archive admin and core-dev teams as I haven't exercised these privileges in several years now, so they are just a potential danger. However, I didn't realize that with leaving core-dev I would also lose my upload permissions of cockpit (plus associated packages cockpit-{machines,podman} and hopefully soon cockpit-files). So let's try the sponsor approach for a while. We still test all cockpit upstream PRs on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, 24.04 LTS, and the latest stable release (oracular at the moment), so please upload no-change backports of the current version (333) to backports. Thank you! ** Affects: cockpit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2099668 Title: Please backport cockpit 333 into oracular/noble/jammy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cockpit/+bug/2099668/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2092139] Re: Rename media device as ipu6-downstream in Noble
Updated Test Plan in the bug description. ** Description changed: [SRU Justificaiton] [ Impact ] Latest IPU6/7 userspace framework becomes incompatible with ipu6-drivers using out-of-tree ipu6-isys kernel module. 1. The userspace framework has to be compatible with all kernels, and therefore all ipu6 kernel driver revisions, available in Noble. 2. There are implementation differences between the upstreamed ipu6-isys driver and that from out-of-tree git repository. Such differences are identified by a media device model name. 3. The out-of-tree driver ipu6-isys used to identify itself as "ipu6", but while it being upstreamed, this formal name was taken to identify the in-tree ipu6-isys driver, and therefore demanding the out-of-tree one to be renamed as "ipu6-downstream" instead. 4. The latest userspace framework has adopted such naming policy, so all the kernels that are still using out-of-tree ipu6-isys with such name identity must take corresponding action so that it won't be misidentified by the framework. [ Test Plan ] - 1. install kernel from -proposed pocket. + 1. install kernel from -proposed pocket. When this lands -updates, it + will be taken to compiled against generic-6.8 and linux-oem-6.8 kernels; + before that, an experimental built is available in + https://launchpad.net/~canonical-hwe-team/+archive/ubuntu/intermediate- + kernel 2. install necessary (ipu6/ipu7/usbio/vision) linux-modules- FOO- corresponding packages for the kernel. 3. For kernels > v6.10 it should be using the in-tree ipu6-isys, and out-of-tree one for kernel < v6.10. From `v4l2-ctl` output: ``` # kernel >= v6.10 $ v4l2-ctl -D -d 1 Driver Info: - Driver name: intel-ipu6-isys - Card type : ipu6 + Driver name: intel-ipu6-isys + Card type : ipu6 # kernel > v6.10 $ v4l2-ctl -D -d 1 Driver Info: - Driver name: intel-ipu6-isys - Card type : ipu6-downstream + Driver name: intel-ipu6-isys + Card type : ipu6-downstream ``` 4. Use https://webcamtests.com/ to verify camera availability. [ Where problems could occur ] For old userspace framework, there is no such identity checks, so the new identity for the out-of-tree driver doesn't have an effect for the existing setups. [ Other Info ] This is already part of the drivers for kernel >= v6.10, and therefore it affects only ipu6-drivers/noble. == original bug report == The Intel's ARL enablement release (bug 2085845) also makes use of in- tree IPU6 ISYS kernel modules for kernel versions >= 6.10. This is not optional, and the differences between the in-tree and out-of-tree isys kernel modules result in the need of the compatibility handling only available in userspace HAL >= 20241122. The new kernel driver depends on the new HAL. To be worse, the media device model name that used to be "ipu6" is chosen to serve as an identity to distinguish the upstream (in-tree) and downstream (out-of-tree) implementation of isys. While the upstreamed isys driver must use "ipu6" as the model name, it means the downstream one has to rename media device model as "ipu6-downstream". Since the old ipu6-drivers always use "ipu6", and the new HAL assumes "ipu" means the in-tree isys but it's not, all the old ipu6-drivers deployments has to rename their media device model to "ipu6-downstream" when using the new HAL. Then, the last problem, Noble has both oem-6.11 and oem-6.8, which follows the oem-6.11 will need the new HAL, and the new HAL demands intel-isys module built along with oem-6.8 to be renamed as "ipu6-downstream". [Bug 2098957] Re: Remove armhf binaries in plucky for marble, kgeotag and kphotoallbum
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/meta-kde/5:151ubuntu2 alread migrated with the mentioned change https://launchpadlibrarian.net/777668139/meta-kde_5%3A151ubuntu1_5%3A151ubuntu2.diff.gz Rev-dep already confirmed that in your output, I confirm the same as of now. I also see the mentioned transition and the missing armhf in the new to block it. There is still a build fail on s390x blocking kphotoalbum, but that is independent. A test fail, maybe due to big endian as it is comparing expected output values. Checked the list of pkg of marbel, some where the obvious new name qt5 -> qt6. Others were not listed as blockers on the migration, but that is due to them being either arch-all or not having armhf in the old (marble-behaim) or being new (qml6...). I have not seen any bad ones in plucky-proposed to remove, only the armhf in plucky-release to unblock the new. Ack on the removal - thanks for preparing it so well Rik! [Bug 2099693] [NEW] [draft] FFe: install papers instead of evince in Ubuntu Desktop by default
Public bug reported: This is a draft to provide the Ubuntu Release Team with early notice of a likely Feature Freeze Exception for Ubuntu 25.04. Impact == The Ubuntu Desktop Team would like to switch the default standalone PDF viewer app from Evince to Papers. Papers was forked from Evince and appears to be significantly better maintained than Evince currently. GNOME is expected to switch their default app for GNOME 49 later this year. The Ubuntu Desktop team does not see a need to wait until then. This was pre-announced at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu- desktop-25-04-part-1-the-plucky-roadmap/49621 Why This Wasn't Done Sooner == The required MIR was filed before Ubuntu 25.04 Feature Freeze but it also needed a review by the Ubuntu Security Team. https://launchpad.net/bugs/2097727 Papers didn't arrive in Ubuntu universe until February 2 because the Debian NEW review took a couple months. Affected Packages = The ubuntu-desktop metapackages (from ubuntu-meta) will have the simple swap. gtk4, gtk+3.0 and possibly gtk+2.0 will need a change to switch their default PDF viewer for the Print Preview feature (as seen in gnome-text- editor and gedit) from evince to papers. You can remove that package if you don't use it, or continue to use 6.8.x kernel until it is fixed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2098021 Title: xtrx-dkms fails to build on kernel 6.11.x To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xtrx-dkms/+bug/2098021/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2098959] Re: System Freeze on suspend/resume
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected wilma ** Description changed: Recently I put my Laptop into sleep mode like normal and later tried to wake it up but the machine was unresponsive. Interestingly opening the tty still worked (the second time it happened I pressed ctrl+f1 immediately after I noticed the freeze) but as soon as I interacted with the desktop environment (e.g. through a (normal) key press) the system froze completely. After a hard restart the same thing happened again after waking from sleep mode. I couldn't reproduce it the following days. From the logs (see attachments), I would extract that the problem is already at the time of entering sleep mode. Anyway would be very happy if you could look into this BUG: kernel NULL pointer dereference. + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.28.1-0ubuntu3.3 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/seq:myuser 3271 F pipewire + /dev/snd/controlC0: myuser 3273 F wireplumber + CasperMD5CheckResult: pass + CurrentDesktop: X-Cinnamon + DistroRelease: Linux Mint 22 + EcryptfsInUse: Yes + InstallationDate: Installed on 2024-09-14 (160 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Linux Mint 22 "Wilma" - Release amd64 20240721 + Lsusb: + Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub + Bus 001 Device 002: ID 03f0:1f4a HP, Inc HP USB Optical Mouse + Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04ca:3015 Lite-On Technology Corp. [Bug 2099708] [NEW] Broadcom RDMA over Converged Ethernet driver bnxt_re stalling on 24.04
Public bug reported: We have a set of servers, equipped with Broadcom BCM57414 NetXtreme-E 10Gb/25Gb RDMA Ethernet Controllers. Booting Ubuntu 24.04 (on 6.8 kernel) on these machines leads to the bnxt_re driver stalling during boot, and outputting the following kernel log: bnxt_en :ab:00.0: QPLIB: bnxt_re_is_fw_stalled: FW STALL Detected. cmdq[0xf]=0x3 waited (102721 > 10) msec active 1 bnxt_en :ab:00.0 bnxt_re0: Failed to modify HW QP infiniband bnxt_re0: Couldn't change QP1 state to INIT: -110 infiniband bnxt_re0: Couldn't start port bnxt_en :ab:00.0 bnxt_re0: Failed to destroy HW QP This causes systemd-udev-settle.service to fail: udevadm[1212]: Timed out for waiting the udev queue being empty. After this point, if the machine is PXE booting and/ or provisioning via MaaS (which is the case), the provisioning basically fails. The current workaround is to disable RDMA in the BIOS, thus avoiding loading bnxt_en, I believe. This behavior doesn't seem to affect Ubuntu 22.04 with 5.15 kernel. [Bug 2099668] Re: Please backport cockpit 333 into oracular/noble/jammy
I'm reading https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports, and it looks like some steps are missing: - BPO bug template[1] - confirmation it builds and autopkgtests, if any, were run (a PPA would suffice, with autopkgtests triggered on it) - I don't know if ~ubuntu-backporters is still a thing, but that wiki page says they should be subscribed - the actual diff. It sounds like it is just boilerplate, come up with a version, changelog entry, point at the bug, etc. But if that is done, then it really becomes sponsoring, otherwise I will be the backporter, and that's not the case :) Can we proceed like that? 1. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports#BPO_Bug_Template ** Changed in: cockpit (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2099668 Title: Please backport cockpit 333 into oracular/noble/jammy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cockpit/+bug/2099668/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
