[Bug 1621367] Re: 4.4.0-36: keyboard dead at boot & full disk encryption prompt for password
I can confirm the same behavior with Kubuntu 24.04 upgraded from 6.8.0-49 to 6.8.0-50. System boots to LUKS password prompt and I get 2 seconds or so to type before the screen blanks for 2 seconds. When it returns I am unable to type. Using Grub Advanced I can force the boot to 6.8.0-49 and everything works fine as before. Alternatively I can use Grub Advanced to edit the 6.8.0-50 command line and remove quiet and splash to do a text boot. In that mode I still get the flash behavior; however, I am able to continue typing after the flash. I found several Mint related posts complaining about the same kernel with the same issue. My system is an AMD 5950X with and AMD 7800XT video card. RAM is 64GB. Keyboard and mouse are Razer and they are hard wired in. When Windows 11 people want to switch to Linux, this kind of behavior is very unsettling to them. While my experience gives me the ability to work around it, this really needs to be fixed. Its not comforting to find and 8 year old ticket that describes the same issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1621367 Title: 4.4.0-36: keyboard dead at boot & full disk encryption prompt for password To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1621367/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It requires the latest driver fix from Cirrus on to have audio functions working correctly. Boot up the Dell Renegade laptops. 2. Make sure firmware-sof, alsa-ucm-conf and kernel version support Cirrus codec. (alsa-ucm-conf needs to be >= 1.2.10-1ubuntu5.4, firmware-sof >= 2023.12.1-1ubuntu1.3) 3. check with the `aplay -l` commands to see if any valid audio output devices. 4. Make sure the audio play/record function is working. [Where problems could occur] It add support the CS42L43 + CS35L56 configuration on Intel ARL platform and the CS35L56 on sdw bus link 2 and 3 which need new firmware-sof and alsa-ucm-conf to support. Only affects machines with the same audio configuration. [Bug 2091719] Re: BTRFS kernel panic on btrfs_remove_qgroup
Hi Luca, Yes, I also think you are seeing the exact same issue. The WARN_ON was introduced in the following commit: ubuntu-noble b2ad25ba539452f492805e5f7d94e80894aa860f commit a776bf5f3c2300cfdf8a195663460b1793ac9847 Author: Qu Wenruo Date: Fri Apr 19 14:29:32 2024 +0930 Subject: btrfs: slightly loosen the requirement for qgroup removal Link: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=a776bf5f3c2300cfdf8a195663460b1793ac9847 $ git describe --contains b2ad25ba539452f492805e5f7d94e80894aa860f Ubuntu-6.8.0-50.51~143 This doesn't exactly panic the kernel as you say, it outputs a warning to dmesg. You seem to have the sysctl panic_on_warn set, and that's what panics the system. For now use 6.8.0-49-generic or turn off panic_on_warn as a workaround until this gets fixed. Now the commit: btrfs-devel c61ffaa0a3d9a2094e24d1fe2b17f20e109d2cc8 Author: Qu Wenruo Date: Mon Nov 11 07:29:07 2024 +1030 Subject: btrfs: improve the warning and error message for btrfs_remove_qgroup() Link: https://github.com/btrfs/linux/commit/c61ffaa0a3d9a2094e24d1fe2b17f20e109d2cc8 This hasn't been merged into mainline just yet, it is still in the btrfs devel tree. We need to wait until it reaches Linus's tree before we can merge into Ubuntu. For the mean time, if you like, I made a test kernel based on 6.8.0-50-generic for 24.04 with the commit applied if you want to test it out to see if it fixes your problem. Please note this package is NOT SUPPORTED by Canonical, and is for TESTING PURPOSES ONLY. ONLY Install in a dedicated test environment. Instructions to Install (On a mantic system): 1) sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mruffell/lp2091719-test 2) sudo apt update 3) sudo apt install linux-image-unsigned-6.8.0-50-generic linux-modules-6.8.0-50-generic linux-modules-extra-6.8.0-50-generic linux-headers-6.8.0-50-generic 4) sudo reboot 5) uname -rv 6.8.0-50-generic #51+TEST2091719v20241216b1-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun Dec 15 Again, if it works, we will wait until it reaches mainline, and then we can begin the SRU process. [Bug 2091847] [NEW] Prefer BIOS over PMF on some AMD platforms
Public bug reported: [ Impact ] Some AMD platforms prefer letting BIOS handling what are supposed to be done by the PMF kernel driver. On those platforms, the BIOS should take full control over the relevant functions, without the interference from the PMF driver. To achieve this, add quirks that make the PMF driver fail to probe on those platforms. [ Test Plan ] 1. Install the kernel on one of those platforms. 2. Boot into the kernel. 3. Check dmesg. It should show "Platform prefers BIOS over PMF module. Finish PMF driver probe early." [ Where problems could occur ] If the quirk matches the wrong platform, PMF driver will not function. [ Other Information ] Simply making the driver fail to probe would suffice. This is because BIOS detects the presence of the PMF driver by detecting regular heartbeat signal sent from the driver. If BIOS detects no such heartbeats, it'll consider the PMF driver missing, and will automatically take over the relevant functions. ** Affects: hwe-next Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux-oem-6.11 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: jira-delta-85 oem-priority ** Tags added: jira-delta-85 oem-priority -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2091847 Title: Prefer BIOS over PMF on some AMD platforms To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hwe-next/+bug/2091847/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2091811] [NEW] SRU: backport timestamps in subsection messages
Public bug reported: For upcoming test rebuilds, we would like to analyze build times, and measuring different phases of a build as well, like build-chroot's upgrade times, installation of build dependencies, and the build itself. Therefore we add timestamps to existing log messages already emitted by sbuild. These changes are in plucky (sbuild 0.87.1ubuntu2), and need to be backported up to jammy (the sbuild from the distro is used for the launchpad builders). [ Impact ] * Emit time stamps in the build log for subsection messages. [ Test Plan ] * sbuild has an autopkg test doing a test build of a package. Make sure that the subsection messages show the timestamp. [ Where problems could occur ] * This only has an (desired) impact for the build log. There are currently no known tools using these messages for parsing. The messages are already in ascii formatted boxes, the timestamp just replaces some white space, so even the length of the build log stays the same. [ Other Info ] * We would like to start the test rebuilds on Dec 20, so it would be nice to have that change availabe in the updates pocket at that time. * This change is already accepted upstream and will be part of a 0.87.2 or 0.88 release. ** Affects: sbuild (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: sbuild (Ubuntu Jammy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: sbuild (Ubuntu Noble) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: sbuild (Ubuntu Oracular) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: For upcoming test rebuilds, we would like to analyze build times, and measuring different phases of a build as well, like build-chroot's upgrade times, installation of build dependencies, and the build itself. Hard to understand how Canonical keeps on breaking trivial Linux things that have been working for decades and allowing this to exist for nearly one and a half year now without decent work arounds. [Bug 2091837] [NEW] Adding support for Cirrus sof-soundwire audio on Dell GhostRider platform
Public bug reported: [SRU Justifications] == linux == [Impact] Dell Renegade comes with Cirrus cs42l43 codec + cs35l56 amplifier on Intel ARL platform. Currently, all my attempts to fix bwrap > ended with `bwrap: setting up uid map: Permission denied` which was > finally explained when I discovered this bug. > @samluanch as you noted, container managers like flatpak and podman can indeed be a problem dependent on what their children are allowed to do. Yes if not handled correctly they can be used as a trivial by-pass, which is part of the reason you have run into problems with bwrap. The container manager can be limited, and its children's rights can be mitigated, keeping the manager from being used as a trivial by-pass. There is a bwrap profile hat allows bwrap to function. It however does limit/break some of bwrap. And it has had interactions with flatpak, that lead to it being reverted. There will be another attempt to roll a revised version out. The other part of the answer to your inquiry is, Ubuntu is trying to ship a secure by default configuration. Users are allowed to install, what they want. Change configurations, etc. The user is then opting into a less secure configuration. We will not be setting the restriction to 0 with the installation of such software on the system because it can still block attacks, to by-pass it an attack will have to be tailored to use a software that is not enabled by default, and requires privilege to install. In addition there are configurations of flatpak, and podmap that can work with the restriction, so it very much will depend on your local config. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2046844 Title: AppArmor user namespace creation restrictions cause many applications to crash with SIGTRAP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/apparmor/+bug/2046844/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Apt keeps failing with the following error message: ``` Checking smb.conf with testparm testparm: **symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/samba/libldbsamba.so.0: undefined symbol: ldb_msg_element_is_inaccessible, version LDB_2.4.4** dpkg: error processing package samba-common-bin (--configure): installed samba-common-bin package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 127 dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of samba: samba depends on samba-common-bin (= 2:4.15.13+dfsg-0ubuntu0.20.04.8); however: Package samba-common-bin is not configured yet. dpkg: error processing package samba (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured No apport report written because the error message indicates it's a follow-up error from a previous failure. Processing triggers for ufw (0.36-6ubuntu1.1) ... ``` The following line therein is the one I don't understand: > "symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux- gnu/samba/libldbsamba.so.0: undefined symbol: ldb_msg_element_is_inaccessible, version LDB_2.4.4" It sounds like the libldb and samba versions/APIs? are not matching? How could that be? I've ran "debsums" on my system, and it says some missing files, but no borken libraries. Any clues and help greatly appreciated! A life without samba is not really fun :( Thanks. ^Rooker ** Affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: xubuntu-default-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Also affects: samba (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2091825 Title: unable to install samba: libldbsamba.so.0: undefined symbol To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/2091825/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
