[Bug 2085404] Re: No display after booting

2024-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The EDID issue is possibly unrelated.

gnome-shell gets SIGKILL'd if its realtime thread uses too much CPU
during startup. This may be mutter's fault like in bug 2077216, or it
may be due to an i915 bug alluded to above.

First we would like to know if the fix for bug 2077216 helps, so please
try 24.10 if you can.

Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial) reached end-of-standard-support on April 29, 2021.

[Bug 2085753] Re: Xorg freeze

2024-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1924689 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1924689

Thanks for the bug report. It is a known limitation that Xorg sessions
cannot set different displays to different scaling factors.

As for "window freezes and creates graphical irregularites", that is bug
1924689.

You can select 'Ubuntu on Wayland' at the login screen to avoid both
problems.

[Bug 2085750] Re: Everything closed and back in login screen

2024-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

2024-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The screenshot shows a cross next to 'Block Caribou 36' so it's possible
that's crashing and causing other extensions' activate/deactivate calls
to be skipped.

Please try removing 'Block Caribou 36'.

[Bug 2085356] Re: gnome-shell consumes 100% cpu while doing nothing

2024-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Please start by removing all local
extensions:

  cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
  rm -rf extensions

and then log in again. If the problem persists after that then please
tell us which processes are using the next most CPU.

Also are there any apps that might be rendering constantly (like a web
browser)? That could be expensive since it sounds like it's a VM.

[Bug 2085734] Re: "The non-volatile system UEFI variable storage is nearly full"

2024-10-29 Thread udippel
I actually didn't expect a very different answer; after my previous
experiences in the last time. "Invalid", "It's a feature", and "the
problem is located between chair and monitor".

Nevertheless, I should add that that same machine(s) never had this problem
with W8, later W10, and in the same configuration: double boot with Kubuntu
18.04, 20.04, 22.04.
And now I had to do the deletion/reboot combination in duplicate, twice,
including 3 times the reset in the firmware and twice physically with a clip
within a fortnight. And always only in connection with 24.04.

Seen in connection with the other UEFI problems reported, like no
poweron and non-functional poweroff resp. shutdown, grub problems, it
comes across as just too simple to state "we're doing okay; the problems
are elsewhere", and setting reports to "Invalid".

[Bug 2085835] [NEW] "Predictable Network Interface Naming" suddenly changed the name from enp96s0f0 to enp96s0f0np0 causing outage

2024-10-29 Thread Stoyan Atanasov
Public bug reported:

On three identical servers - sleds in a blade chassis.
the NIC name of one of the servers suddenly changed, causing an outage. The
netplan config could not assign IP to the interface due to the name change.

enp96s0f0 to enp96s0f0np0

The two other servers still have the enp96s0f0 name. No BIOS or other
configuration change is detectable between the three systems. Firmware,
software - all the same

I tried to debug this issue myself, but it turned out to be a very niche and
complicated topic.
I went to submit an issue on https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues, but
they only accept issues for newer versions.

[Bug 2084962] Re: 90systemd-cryptsetup: Could not find any command of '/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-cryptsetup'!

2024-10-29 Thread Benjamin Drung
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and contributing to
Ubuntu.

Since you do not use encryption, not having systemd-cryptsetup installed
is fine. The log message uses "[I]" for "informational". So it does not
complain and the log messages are expected and correctly classified.

[Bug 2084706] Re: Add Plucky as a known Ubuntu distribution

2024-10-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package vim - 2:9.1.0777-1ubuntu1

---
vim (2:9.1.0777-1ubuntu1) plucky; urgency=medium

  * Merge from Debian Unstable. Remaining changes:
- debian/runtime/vimrc:
+ "syntax on" is a sane default for non-tiny Vim.
- debian/patches/debian/ubuntu-grub-syntax.patch:
  + Add Ubuntu-specific "quiet" keyword.
- debian/patches/ubuntu-mouse-off.patch:
+ Mouse mode is actively harmful in some chroots.
- debian/patches/increase_timeout.diff:
+ Increase timeout for the Test_pattern_compile_speed patch.
- debian/patches/0001-fix-flaky-terminal-mode-test.vim:
+ Fix flaky Vim terminal mode test.
- debian/patches/0002-disable-failing-tests-on-ppc64.patch:
+ Disable some tests that were throwing an ENOMEM during build on
ppc64el. The tests are only disabled when building on ppc64el.
  * Welcome to Plucky Puffin! (LP: #2084706)

vim (2:9.1.0777-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Merge upstream patch v9.1.0777
+ Security fixes:
  - 9.1.0764: Fix use-after-free when closing a buffer in a BufWinLeave
autocmd, CVE-2024-47814
  * Make autopkgtests validate the language bindings. The previous
autopkgtests ran the entire upstream test suite whose flakiness made it
useless as a marker for whether a package update broke Vim. Since the
language bindings are the most likely to be affected by package updates,
just test those in autopkgtests and remove the "flaky" restriction.
  * Declare compliance with Policy 4.7.0, no changes required

vim (2:9.1.0709-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Build with -O1 on s390x to workaround #1082125

vim (2:9.1.0709-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Merge upstream patch v9.1.0709
+ Security fixes:
  - 9.1.0707: Fix possibility of invalid cursor position, CVE-2024-45306
+ 9.1.0706: Fix test_gettext tests when building in a shadow directory
+ 9.1.0709: Fix lookup of GUIEnter autocmd name in Turkish locale (Closes:
  #1074174)
  * Build-Depend on locales-all package to test new gettext() vimscript function
  * Delete runtime/doc/tags-* (language specific tags) during clean

vim (2:9.1.0698-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Merge upstream tag v9.1.0698
+ Security fixes:
  - 9.1.0647: Fix use-after-free in tagstack_clear_entry(), CVE-2024-41957
  - 9.1.0648: Fix double free in dialog_changed(), CVE-2024-41965
  - 9.1.0678: Fix use-after-free in alist_add(), CVE-2024-43374
  - 9.1.0689: Fix buffer-overflow in do_search() when 'rightleft' is set,
CVE-2024-43790
  - 9.1.0697: Fix heap-buffer-overflow in ins_typebuf(), CVE-2024-43802
+ 9.1.0568: Add support for completing paths from 'cdpath' in :cd (Closes:
  #509940)
  * Clarify defaults.vim instructions in system vimrc when wanting to source
defaults.vim to build on top of its settings.
  * Adjust make parameter used to specify vim binary, since upstream changed
the expected variable name in multiple makefiles

[Bug 2084531] Re: Can't open cursor lib '/etc/libodbccr.so' : file not found

2024-10-29 Thread garblixa
You are right, the package unixodbc-dev installs the symbolic link
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libodbccr.so -> libodbccr.so.2.0.0

This means to me that the php8.1-odbc package has a missing dependency
on unixodbc-dev. So I will report a corresponding bug there.

So this report can be closed.

Thanks again!

[Bug 2085815] [NEW] php8.1-odbc missing dependency to unixodbc-dev

2024-10-29 Thread garblixa
Public bug reported:

unixodbc is used with freetds to connect to mssql databases with PHP.

The following PHP connect string is used:
odbc_connect(DSN, USER, PASSWORD, SQL_CUR_USE_ODBC);

SQL_CUR_USE_ODBC is used to speed up database access. The following
error occurs:

##
PHP Warning: odbc_connect(): SQL error: [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Can't open
cursor lib ‘/etc/libodbccr.so’ : file not found, SQL state 01000 in SQLConnect
Error: >>[unixODBC][Driver Manager]Can't open cursor lib ‘/etc/libodbccr.so’ :
file not found<<
##

When you install unixodbc-dev, a symbolic link /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/libodbccr.so -> libodbccr.so.2.0.0 is installed by the package,
which fixes the problem.

So I think that php8.1-odbc should have a dependency on unixodbc-dev.

[Bug 2084553] Re: system cannot to connect to wpa2-enterprice PEAP mschapv2

2024-10-29 Thread Hugo Roussille
Hi,

I have this issue as well. In my case it appears when connecting to the
eduroam network. I attach a log of networkmanager : it appears that my
laptop does connect to the network ("supplicant management interface
state: associating -> associated"), but then a few milliseconds later,
it disconnects ("state: disconnected (was associated, plain property)").
The log is very verbose and I don't really know what causes this
disconnection.

[Bug 1981487] Re: kernel BUG/Oops errors from modprobe while the DRBG has not yet initialized (focal/fips-updates)

2024-10-29 Thread Ubuntu Kernel Bot
This bug is awaiting verification that the linux-azure-
fips/6.8.0-1016.18+fips1 kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please
test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is
solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-noble-linux-azure-fips' to
'verification-done-noble-linux-azure-fips'. If the problem still exists,
change the tag 'verification-needed-noble-linux-azure-fips' to
'verification-failed-noble-linux-azure-fips'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will
be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

[Bug 2084046] Re: [i915] Phantom "Unknown" display detected

2024-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'm not sure #7 is the same issue because it seems to jump to
conclusions and describes a black TTY problem which I don't have.

As for testing the idea in comment #6, my kernel log shows simpledrm
creating /dev/fb0 around 1.4s, and i915 creating /dev/fb1 around 8.9s.
Both /dev/fb[01] still exist after boot. So even if #7 is not well
described, we may be experiencing the same root cause.

[Bug 2061687] Re: Snapshot doesn't work until camera is unplugged and plugged back in or pipewire or wireplumber is restarted

2024-10-29 Thread Nathan Teodosio
I reckon you'd then need to install at least a number of the other
binaries produced by this source package.

Jeremy pointed me to https://jeremy.bicha.net/2022/03/29/how-to-install-
a-bunch-of-debs/.

You could alteratively leave the verification to me, I can only test it
on Monday though.

[Bug 2039278] Re: Consistent naming of onboard NIC on all Pi on all Ubuntu

2024-10-29 Thread Nick Rosbrook
This probably belongs in ubuntu-raspi-settings, but one could construct
a /usr/lib/systemd/network/70-raspi-nic-default.link that matches based
on the available keys[1].

Then either set Name= or NamePolicy= as appropriate.

I don't think there is anything for systemd to do here, but if there is
something lacking (like a property to match against), re-open.

[Bug 1537310] Re: Canceling upload of problem information causes dialog to freeze

2024-10-29 Thread Benjamin Drung
When I prepared the SRU for Apport I only tested the build and
unit/integration autopkgtest, because my VMs needed for the system
autopkgtest were broken and I had poor Internet connection. So I did not
check the system autopkgtest and boom, they failed due to missing new
dependencies.

I uploaded 2.28.1-0ubuntu3.3 and verified it to work in a PPA.
