work:

I had initially installed Ubuntu 24.04, and went through the recommended
fix to uvc_driver.c to no avail, then saw Guiliano's comment about
kernel 6.11.

Any advice on how to proceed would be much appreciated,

Kind regards,

[Bug 2082060] Re: memcpy: detected field-spanning write (size 8) of single field "lr + 1"

2024-10-27 Thread Niccolò Belli
Hi, this is a known issue with Linux 6.11 and zfs 2.2.6.
Even if it's considered harmless you should really backport this until 2.2.7
gets released: https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/pull/16539

You can't use the diff from that PR since it won't apply cleanly, but
it's easy enough to backport and you reuse my patch from zfs-dkms-
staging-git: https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/commit/?h=zfs-dkms-
staging-git&id=c0037ba49d9739c753506640a91a716032d6f943

The patch is called "linux610-zfs_log-add-flex-array-fields-to-log-
record-structs.patch" and we use it since a couple of weeks without
issues.

You can also find it here where I constantly rebase on top of the latest
staging branch:
https://github.com/darkbasic/zfs/commits/zfs-2.2.7-staging-backports/

[Bug 2085722] [NEW] Enabling fractional scaling in a nested gnome-shell session does not work

2024-10-27 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

# Impact

When running gnome-shell in a nested compositor, it's not possible to
test fractional scaling toggling by using g-c-c

# Test case

Run:
  env XDG_RUNTIME_PATH=/tmp/g-s-runtime HOME=/tmp/g-s-home dbus-run-session \
   gnome-shell --nested --wayland --unsafe-mode

1. In the nested session run settings and go to display settings.
2. Enabling fractional scaling should work:
   fractional values should be show once picking a valid resolution such as
1600x1920
3. Toggling it back should work too.

# Regression potential

Fractional scaling can be enabled when not supported

Thanks Benjamin,

We will try to move to Country/city timezones, however we have many
systems on bionic/trusty (yes trusty!), and it is affecting all of them.
eg: 2024a-0ubuntu0.18.04.1+esm1 shipped via canonical ESM also is buggy.

Would you or someone would possibly know if this will be fixed/patched and
released on 2024a release for affected ubuntu releases sooner - any ETA on the
fix etc? (not sure if you are the right person to answer this)

Thanks again.

Looking at VarLogDistupgradeAtplog.txt, it appears that
pkgProblemResolver is going in circles with UbuntuStudio-Desktop,
Plasma-Desktop, SDDM-Theme-Breeze because removing one or a dependency
of another will break one of the others, so the resolver decides to keep
or remove one or the other, which again breaks one of the others. It's
in a dependency breaking loop.

I did manage to get the Upgrade to run on my Ubuntu Studio 22.04 video
dvr machine with AgentDVR installed, and it seriously broke it with
something about UbuntuStudio-default-settings, which it did not install
because it either depended or conflicted with sddm-theme-breeze.

[Bug 2085749] Re: Cannot Connect to VPN after Upgrading to 24.10

2024-10-27 Thread Douglas Kosovic
network-manager-l2tp's MPPE support has been broken for over 10 years
when Compression Control Protocol (CCP) was disabled with the following
commit in its source code:

https://github.com/nm-l2tp/NetworkManager-l2tp/commit/5fe98f70344e842faa28014be7ba259c2db7ae8b

MPPE negotiations need to happen within CCP and was fixed with the
version of network-manager-l2tp that shipped with Ubuntu 24.04.

MPPE generally only works with L2TP servers that don't use IPsec.

--- Comment From anushree.math...@ibm.com 2024-10-28 00:38 EDT---
I tried the below scenarios as mentioned by Kautuk, i already updated Kautuk
regarding this!

Steps for 1st scenario:
i) Stop stress-ng on the VM.
ii) Do a "rm /var/run/libvirt.pid" and then restart the libvirtd service.
iii) Take a snapshot and check how much time it takes.
Tried this 5-6 times

O/p in this scenario is

date;virsh snapshot-create guest;date
Mon Oct 21 06:24:10 AM CDT 2024
Domain snapshot 1729509850 created
Mon Oct 21 06:46:32 AM CDT 2024

Steps for 2nd scenario:
i) Again do a "rm /var/run/libvirt.pid" and then restart the libvirtd service.
ii) Now run stress-ng on the VM.
iii) Now again take a snapshot and check how much time it takes.

O/P in this scenario:

date;virsh snapshot-create guest;date
Mon Oct 21 08:39:12 AM CDT 2024
Domain snapshot 1729517952 created
Mon Oct 21 09:30:29 AM CDT 2024

Because of this even virsh snapshot-delete is taking a lot of time! Almost 1
hour.
Thanks,
Anushree Mathur

[Bug 1524526] Re: Crashes with undefined symbol

2024-10-27 Thread Guido Maria Serra
@paelzer that means that dovecot-lucene will be reinstated as a package?
solr is not a solution for me, as it requires an external instance on
the laptop to create indexes... lucene was doing smartly the job along
my Mail/ mbox chunks

[Bug 2085697] Re: Flutter snap gives problem in 'flutter doctor'

2024-10-27 Thread Paul White
'snap' isn't the package that you think it is. Maybe you meant 'snapd'?

But...the flutter snap is published by the SnapCraft community and is
not part of Ubuntu as most snaps aren't.

'snap info flutter' in a terminal shows that issues should be reported at:
https://github.com/flutter/flutter/issues

https://snapcraft.io/flutter also gives this information.

[Bug 2085711] Re: baobab does not show system directories on other partitions

2024-10-27 Thread Dietmar Hummel
** Description changed:

  Hi

  Currently on an Ubuntu 24.04.1 I have the following disk layout:

  /dev/sda2 /

  and choosing to see the disk usage of the root dir (/) its just leaving
  out the directories /tmp, /var and /home.

  But to see their disk usage is exactly what I want. Or in other words:
  As /home is currently 100% full the tool is just not telling me what I am
searching for...

  Current installed package is: baobab/now 46.0-1build1 amd64
  lsb_release -rd gives:
  Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS

  My expectation is: That the tool would show all mounted disks/partitions and
not filter some of them away
  What happened instead: The tool is filtering out some system directories on
other partitions that I would expect to have included in the overview

What information is available to be shown will depend on whether or not
you have baloo file indexing enabled ($ balooctl6 status) and it
indexing file content ($ balooctl6 config show contentIndexing).
Additionally, even when the file data is indexed the options to show
particular info types in the info panel need to be enable in its config
(right click panel > configure).

So this is an issue in how you have baloo indexing set up and/or config
options, and is out of scope of this bug.

[Bug 2085700] [NEW] linux-image-5.15.0-1064-raspi package post-installation returned error

2024-10-27 Thread djTratoh
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

Description:Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS
Release:22.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname'

linux-image-5.15.0-1064-raspi:
  Installed: 5.15.0-1064.67
  Candidate: 5.15.0-1064.67

500 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports jammy-security/main armhf
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen
apt upgrade completed without any error

4) What happened instead
Errors were encountered while processing:
 initramfs-tools
 linux-image-5.15.0-1064-raspi
needrestart is being skipped since dpkg has failed
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

5) What I found
I found that the post-installation try to create symbolic link into
/boot/dtb-5.15.0-1064-raspi and it failed. The reason is:
  - /boot partition is formatted as FAT32 by Raspberry Pi Imager (sudo snap
install rpi-imager)
  - can't create symbolic link in FAT32 partition

[Bug 2081085] Re: wbt:wbt_* trace event NULL pointer dereference with GENHD_FL_HIDDEN disks

2024-10-27 Thread Jacob Martin
With 5.4.0-198-generic, running the reproducer causes the reported crash
on a DGXA100, leaving the system unresponsive.

After enabling -proposed, upgrading to 5.4.0-200-generic, and rebooting,
the reproducer does not cause a crash.

$ echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/kernel/tracing/events/wbt/enable
$ echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/kernel/tracing/tracing_on
$ sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/nvme3n1

Note, /dev/nvme3n1 is one of the NVMe disks on DGXA100 with native
multipathing, as evidenced by the link /sys/class/block/nvme3c3n1 being
present:

$ readlink /sys/class/block/nvme3c3n1

[Bug 2085734] [NEW] "The non-volatile system UEFI variable storage is nearly full"

2024-10-27 Thread udippel
Public bug reported:

After about the fourth boot of a freshly installed 24.04, the machine, a Lenovo
Thinkpad Helix 2, didn't boot yet again, but came back with this message:
"Error: The non-volatile system UEFI variable storage is nearly full"
"Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter Setup".

I never had this before, on either of my 3 Helix 2 thinkpads, over the last 5+
years, starting with 18.04. This isn't the first time with 24.04, on this
machine.
Since it also refuses to show grub, doesn't reboot; neither the installation
media nor the installed system (#2085732, #2078572, #1898022 and others), I
guess that the core problem doesn't lie with grub or systemd, but with the
handling of UEFI, at least with this type of machine. The 'BIOS' is updated to
the most recent version (2.16).

[Bug 2085735] [NEW] do-release-upgrade fails with an IPv6 address for the proxy

2024-10-27 Thread Laurent B
Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu release
Description:Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS
Release:22.04

Description:Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS
Release:20.04

2)
ubuntu-release-upgrader-core:
  Installed: 1:22.04.20
  Candidate: 1:22.04.20
  Version table:

3)
From its initial installation with Ubuntu 20.04, this system has been using a
local proxy using its IPv6 address.
This has been configured for apt, which worked fine.
$ cat /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/90curtin-aptproxy
Acquire::http::Proxy "http://[fc00:cafe::1]:3128";;
Acquire::https::Proxy "http://[fc00:cafe::1]:3128";;

However, when I tried to upgrade to 22.04 using do-release-upgrade, the
command failed immediately:

$ sudo do-release-upgrade
proxy 'http://[fc00:cafe::1]:3128' looks invalid
Checking for a new Ubuntu release
Failed to connect to https://changelogs.ubuntu.com/meta-release-lts. Check your
Internet connection or proxy settings
There is no development version of an LTS available.
To upgrade to the latest non-LTS development release
set Prompt=normal in /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades.

4) I expected the upgrade to a newer release to work.

Workaround found:

It was suggested that I add a name for the server in /etc/hosts, which I
did, and then the command ran without a hitch (and once it finished, I
checked the same issue is present on Ubuntu 22.04)

$ grep proxy /etc/hosts
fc00:cafe::1proxy

$ cat /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/90curtin-aptproxy

Acquire::https::Proxy "http://proxy:3128";;

[Bug 1958019]

2024-10-27 Thread stevea12345
I discovered a work-around, suggesting a bug.

While sound was working correctly (6.9.x kernels) I had a modprobe option:
>> options snd-sof-intel-hda-common hda_model=alc287-yoga9-bass-spk-pin
however that parameter was refactored out of the snd-sof-intel-hda-common
module.

The quirk list sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c ~ line 10847 contains:
>>  SND_PCI_QUIRK(0x17aa, 0x3801, "Lenovo Yoga9 14IAP7",
>> ALC287_FIXUP_YOGA9_14IAP7_BASS_SPK_PIN),
however the sub-ident " 0x3801" does not match my Yoga9 14IAP7 !
My subsystem is [17aa:381c], and my codec is [17aa,3863]
See the alsa-info links for verification.

So I find that including the modprobe option:
>>   options snd_sof_intel_hda_generic hda_model=17aa:3801
results in:
>> $ cat /sys/module/snd_sof_intel_hda_generic/parameters/hda_model
>> 17aa:3801
And then sound works as expected (6.11.4 kernel).

[Bug 1776622] Re: snapd updates on focal never finish installing. Can't install any other updates.

2024-10-27 Thread Balázs Börcsök
This hit me recently.

I tried doing https://askubuntu.com/a/1039685/985600 but when reinstalling snap
it always fails at the same place...
Also, when now I try to reinstall snap it notifies me that the current kernel
is not the expected, which is really strange because I have the newest kernel
version for one and it expects the generic kernel, but I am running an FIPS
system...

I uploaded the update output as attachment, but the relevant part is:

```
Installing new version of config file
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.snapd.snap-confine.real ...
Could not execute systemctl:  at /usr/bin/deb-systemd-invoke line 142.
snapd.failure.service is a disabled or a static unit not running, not starting
it.
snapd.snap-repair.service is a disabled or a static unit not running, not
starting it.
Could not execute systemctl:  at /usr/bin/deb-systemd-invoke line 142.
```

When logging in it also gave me the:
`cannot check or enable FIPS mode: readlink /snap/snapd/current: no such file
or directory`

Line 142 in the failing script is:

`system('systemctl', '--quiet', @instance_args, $action, @start_units)
== 0 or die("Could not execute systemctl: $!");`

So I assume the apparmor profile installation fails for some reason.

As of right now I am not in need of snaps, so I will keep the system up
for some time, but soon I will migrate to another OS, because bugs like
this can not be tolerated if my system is supposed to be relaiable... So
if you want feedback from my system to fix this bug contact me soon here
or at swivel-cola-po...@duck.com

[Bug 2085704] [NEW] "Old package separator used in string at" message in host logs after upgrade to 24.04

2024-10-27 Thread Ari Sovijärvi
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04, the BackupPC_backupDelete
script adds following error to host logs:

Old package separator used in string at
/usr/share/backuppc/bin/BackupPC_backupDelete line 102.
(Did you mean "$Host\'s" instead?)

Looking at that specific line, I'm sure Perl's suggestion to escape the

When I use the emoji picker by pressing Super + . and type to search

freezes and becomes unresponsive for many seconds before becoming
responsive and the next operation (for example, when I type the next

still accepts user input from the keyboard; though not processing it.
The attachment shows the state.

With a 'fresh' install of 18.04, everything works. (I mentioned this elsewhere.)
That is, #2078572 does not happen, that is in the installed version, but shuts
down properly (excluding a hardware error - btw. I own three of these machines
and all behave similar); as well as the system shuts down properly from
installation media.

 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Anyone with Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 or TAS2781 with audio broken after
kernel 6.7.9, you can install this which automatically calls the
tas2781 script on the events that would lead to no audio.

[Bug 1898022] Re: grub upgrade 18.04->20.04 loses dual-boot to W10

2024-10-27 Thread udippel
Since 24.04 is really non-workable on this Lenovo thinkpad (see my other
reports), and I am a curious person, I downloaded 18.04, wiped the disk
completely, reinstalled W10 followed by kubuntu 18.04, and found
everything to be working as expected. I did the same, yet another time,
and installed 24.04. And encountered all my grouses once again. Finally
I did everything for the third time, again with 18.04, and found
everything to be okay.

Since the non-volatile UEFI had run full after about the third reboot
with 24.04 (which it hadn't done for the last 5+ years), and it doesn't
shut down properly, neither with the installation media, 2085732 nor
from an installation, #2078572, I am by now pretty convinced that the
underlying problem could be Ubuntu's handling of UEFI; at least on this
hardware. W10 runs perfectly okay, and for some hours now 18.04, too.
Especially no shutdown/reboot worries; and the grub menu shows, when the
machine is set to use the hard disk as first boot device.

Therefore, we should assume by now that grub does a proper job; and the
major problems as encountered are problems introduced at some moment by
ubuntu in the UEFI-handling.

[Bug 1958019]

2024-10-27 Thread ryan
Hi, there seems to be a regression for the Thinkpad Z13 Gen 2 which uses
the Realtek ALC287 with the CS35L41 speaker amp, and has an existing
quirk to load the CS35L41 side codec. I'm using Alpine, and the
distribution 6.6 LTS kernel works fine, but the -edge kernel (6.11.5
currently) doesn't even after enabling all the side codecs in my
Kconfig.

I note the message

[7.615333] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC1D0: realtek: Enable
default setup for auto mode as fallback

When dyndbg is enabled for the snd_hda_codec_realtek module, so I assume
there is a regression in the detection code for this laptop.

Relevant Cirrus DSP firmware is installed and the headphone jack works
fine.

[Bug 2085739] [NEW] Dock appears even though it is disabled

2024-10-27 Thread Andi McClure
Public bug reported:

I use an extension named "dash-to-panel". It replaces the dock (the app
icons listing on the left). So that dash-to-panel and the dock do not
fight for dominance, I run with the dock extension disabled (see
attachment 16-34-21).

Today I did a minor upgrade. Now every time I log out and back in (or,
sleep and rewake the computer), the ubuntu dock appears, in addition to
the dash-to-panel dock. If I go into the extensions app, and turn *any
extension* off and back on, the ubuntu dock disappears.

Expected behavior: If the dock extension is disabled, the dock should
not appear.

Note: It is possible the problem and/or the unusual behavior where the
dock "remembers" it is disabled when an extension is flipped on and off,
is with the dock-suppression mechanism in dash-to-panel and not Ubuntu;
there is a separate bug on dash-to-panel https://github.com/home-sweet-
gnome/dash-to-panel/issues/2199 . However, I think this is a separate
issue from anything in dash-to-panel (if I flip the switch in the
extensions program to disable the dock, then the dock should be
disabled).

Should I download deb files manually?
