[Bug 2078656] Re: NIC speed down to 10 Mbps after resuming from suspend

2024-09-01 Thread AceLan Kao
The issue should be fixed in 6.8.0-44.44 by below commit

commit 27e70aa72937bcfd08ffc10727ad315f9763e6ac
Author: Hui Wang
Date: Thu Jul 18 16:57:16 2024 +0800

e1000e: move force SMBUS near the end of enable_ulp function

BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2073358

The commit 861e8086029e ("e1000e: move force SMBUS from enable ulp
function to avoid PHY loss issue") introduces a regression on
PCH_MTP_I219_LM18 (PCIID: 0x8086550A). Without the referred commit, the
ethernet works well after suspend and resume, but after applying the
commit, the ethernet couldn't work anymore after the resume and the
dmesg shows that the NIC link changes to 10Mbps (1000Mbps originally):

[ 43.305084] e1000e :00:1f.6 enp0s31f6: NIC Link is Up 10 Mbps
Full Duplex, Flow Control: Rx/Tx

Without the commit, the force SMBUS code will not be executed if
"return 0" or "goto out" is executed in the enable_ulp(), and in my
case, the "goto out" is executed since FWSM_FW_VALID is set. But after
applying the commit, the force SMBUS code will be ran unconditionally.

Here move the force SMBUS code back to enable_ulp() and put it
immediately ahead of hw->phy.ops.release(hw), this could allow the
longest settling time as possible for interface in this function and
doesn't change the original code logic.

The issue was found on a Lenovo laptop with the ethernet hw as below:
00:1f.6 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation Device [8086:550a]
(rev 20).

And this patch is verified (cable plug and unplug, system suspend
and resume) on Lenovo laptops with ethernet hw: [8086:550a],
[8086:550b], [8086:15bb], [8086:15be], [8086:1a1f], [8086:1a1c] and
[8086:0dc7].

avoid PHY loss issue")

User is running and was testing Noble. We also backport this to Jammy
for the 6.8 HWE kernel. Unable to test this on Jammy so assuming

I just tried out further that copying in general works, just the
selection I entered did not work. I chose the selection to have a
position of 0/0 and be 1600px wide and 29px high (so a strip on the top
edge of the picture).

[Bug 2057687] Re: systemctl hibernate error: "Call to Hibernate failed: Invalid argument"

2024-09-01 Thread Flansch
Upgraded from Ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04 and now hibernate fails with "Invalid
argument". Tried the steps from #2 and this leads to the error "Not enough
suitable swap space for hibernation available on compatible block devices and
file systems" although hibernating worked fine before updating. After a reboot
I'm back to "Invalid argument".
When following the advice to /sys/power/resume the error is gone but instead of
hibernating the screen goes black for a moment and then the desktop returns.
Also, when looking into the file later the content returned to "0:0".
What works is pm-hibernate but I wouldn't know how to add it to the power menu
and power button.

This is so annoying...

[Bug 2000403] Re: series of i5000 kernel bug reports every boot, latest jammy

2024-09-01 Thread Matthew Bradley
From just a cursory look it seems like maybe one of the two drivers (the
memory temp driver or underlying EDAC driver) isn't handling some dimm
configurations correctly. my dimm configuration looks like:

/sys/devices/system/edac/mc/mc0/dimm0/dimm_location:branch 0 channel 0 slot 0
/sys/devices/system/edac/mc/mc0/dimm12/dimm_location:branch 1 channel 1 slot 0
/sys/devices/system/edac/mc/mc0/dimm13/dimm_location:branch 1 channel 1 slot 1
/sys/devices/system/edac/mc/mc0/dimm1/dimm_location:branch 0 channel 0 slot 1
/sys/devices/system/edac/mc/mc0/dimm4/dimm_location:branch 0 channel 1 slot 0
/sys/devices/system/edac/mc/mc0/dimm5/dimm_location:branch 0 channel 1 slot 1
/sys/devices/system/edac/mc/mc0/dimm8/dimm_location:branch 1 channel 0 slot 0

[Bug 2062972] Re: ntfs partition does not mount with linux 6.8 and CONFIG_BLK_DEV_WRITE_MOUNTED=n

2024-09-01 Thread Pavel
The same problem in Ubuntu 24.04.1
Details:
- clean install of Ubuntu 24.04.1 (no dual boot, no other OS)
- external hard drive with NTFS
I plug in the USB cable and I get the error message: "error mounting /dev/sdb1".
If I plug the cable to a machine with Ubuntu 22.04.4 it mounts O.K.
Any help please?

[Bug 2078568] Re: gnome-terminal dont recognize all fonts that are installed

2024-09-01 Thread Egmont Koblinger
GNOME Terminal, by design, only shows you fonts that are marked as
monospace (a.k.a. fixed width). Terminal emulation, by its very nature,
uses a strict grid of cells, and proportional (non-monospace) fonts are
usually unusable, or extremely ugly at least.

If the said font is a monospace one, but isn't marked as such, please
get in touch with its developers to mark it accordingly.

Until then, as a workaround, you can open dconf-editor, navigate to
/org/gnome/terminal/legacy/profiles: followed by the profile ID, and
under its "font" entry you can set whatever font you wish to use in
GNOME Terminal, including proportional ones. There's also a command line
equivalent to this operation using the dconf or gsettings command,
should you need to automate the task.

[Bug 2077920] Re: [RTL8821CE] awful performance

2024-09-01 Thread Das MC
The machine is getting more and more inresponsive the longer the machine is
running. There are lots of "Application x" is not responding" - windows.
I only run Chrome and Chrome Remote Desktop.

Top cpu eaters are "chrome --type =renderer --crashpad-handler-pid",
20%, gnome-shell 10-20%

If I look at ressourcen in system monitor cpu1 and 2 is 100% busy. ram
at about 75%, swap at about 50%. Will update the post if at home later.

[Bug 2078659] [NEW] io_uring: ensure IOPOLL locks around deferred work

2024-09-01 Thread Chengen Du
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
io_commit_cqring() writes the CQ ring tail to make it visible and also triggers
any deferred work.
When a ring is set up with IOPOLL, it doesn't require locking around the CQ
ring updates.
However, if there is deferred work that needs processing, io_queue_deferred()
assumes that the completion_lock is held.
The io_uring subsystem does not properly handle locking for rings with IOPOLL,
leading to a double-free vulnerability, which can be exploited as
CVE-2023-21400.

[Fix]
There is a commit fixed this issue:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=fb348857e7b67eefe365052f1423427b66dedbf3

There is no direct upstream commit exist for this issue, and the patch
needs to be rework to applied to 5.4.

[Test Plan]
This is a timing issue that can be verified by testing the normal behavior.
The test should cover the exact call path and ensure that no deadlock occurs.
For the userspace program, you can implement it using the liburing library and
choose the XFS filesystem, as it implements the iopoll function hook.
The io_uring_params flag should be set to (IORING_SETUP_SQPOLL |
IORING_SETUP_IOPOLL) and use O_DIRECT to open the XFS file for reading
operations.
The test should be executed multiple times to ensure that no deadlocks occur.

[Where problems could occur]
The problematic call path can be triggered under specific usage scenarios and
only affects io_uring functionality.
If the patch contains any issues, it may lead to a deadlock.

There’s no misunderstanding. The server’s behavior seems to have
changed since I reported this.

Note that the two signatures are now in the other order. Lacking any
input from the Launchpad team, I have no way to tell whether this was a
deliberate bugfix or just a random hash sorting fluctuation that could
regress at any time.

device off and on or after a certain period of time. I have not
experienced this problem with other OSs. Therefore, I do not think it is

[Bug 2059149] Re: Crash

2024-09-01 Thread Danny Smith
I'm having the same issue right now. I've just applied latest updates,
but not sure whether they're relevant - seems more relevant that I've
just moved to using HDMI audio based on the content of this crash, but
either could be involved.

Attaching requested diagnostic files - please let me know if I need to
re-open this as a new bug since this one is 'Expired'.

`sudo journalctl -b0 > journal.txt` -> `journal.txt`
`sudo journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt` -> `prevjournal.txt`
`sudo find /var/crash -mtime -1` yields no new files (crash was about 10
minutes ago).
`/var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id` is dated several hours prior to this particular
crash.

[Bug 2078615] [NEW] Right-click Context Menu Items Remain Highlighted After Dragging Cursor Outside the Menu

2024-09-01 Thread Victor Carreras
Public bug reported:

Affected Version
  -Version: GNOME Nautilus 46.2
  -Distribution: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

Steps to reproduce
1.Right-click anywhere in Nautilus to open the context menu.
2.Select an item in the menu and hold down the mouse button.
3.While holding the button, drag the cursor outside of the context menu
and release the mouse button.
4.Move the cursor back into the context menu; you will see the previously
selected item remains highlighted as if it is still pressed.

Expected Behavior
When the cursor is dragged outside of the context menu, the highlighted
selection should be cleared as soon as the mouse button is released.

Actual Behavior
The selected item remains visually highlighted even after releasing the mouse
button outside of the context menu. This behavior can be repeated for multiple
items, causing them all to appear as if they are still selected.

[Bug 1905166] Re: systemd-shutdown cannot detach DM

2024-09-01 Thread Chris
Following-up my previous comment: While dracut-core initially seemed to
fix the corruption problem, I did eventually get some small corruption
again (which BTRFS immediately detected), and it turns out that at some
point I had started getting some (smaller) shutdown errors again (I
don't know why):

systemd-shutdown[1]: Could not detach DM /dm/dm-3: Device or resource busy
systemd-shutdown[1]: Could not detach DM /dm/dm-0: Device or resource busy
systemd-shutdown[1]: Failed to finalize DM devices, ignoring.

As I'd since bought & switched to a new NVMe drive, which is large
enough to completely contain my cached / and /home partitions, I
disabled lvmcache, and switched to LVM -type raid1 --mirrors 1 instead
(with --raidwritemostly used to avoid reading from my slow spinning disk
of rust). This appears to have completely solved my shutdown errors,
but I have not yet tried disabling dracut-core to see if that's still
needed. (I suspect that performance is also better, since everything is
cached immediately, rather than having to be read one or more times
first.)

[Bug 2078657] [NEW] Regression: Ubuntu 24.04.1 does not show icons of our apps on dash

2024-09-01 Thread Mingun
Public bug reported:

My company develops applications using pure Java (two apps) and QtJambi (Java
wrapped for Qt 5, 1 app). After updating my system from Ubuntu 22.04.3 to
Ubuntu 24.04.1 the icons of our application disappeared, while other
applications have their icons as expected. The list of unaffected applications:
- Firefox
- Terminal
- VS Code
- GitKraken
- Zoom
- Shutter
- System Monitor
- ...many others

How to debug why the icons for the our applications are missing? Why
they are disappeared after update 22.04.3 -> 24.04.1? The applications
was not recompiled since update.

Below the report from the Ubuntu "Система" dialog (dialog opened by gear
icon from power menu):

[Bug 2065932] Re: Only adds the weak key for PPAs dual-signed with both weak and strong keys

2024-09-01 Thread Dmitry Lapshin
Are they? Because it looks like the same as in original description for
me, but I'm late to this party, maybe something else happened in the
meantime?

Also, I think a problem does exist: the warning is still written even
when system is totally fine, and if that has changed it's still here.

[Bug 2077405] Re: External screen flashing and cannot use after laptop lid closed

2024-09-01 Thread Oliver
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  With Kernel 6.8.0-40 (upgraded yesterday)
  a) the external screen connected to my Lenovo T14 ThinkPad randomly turns
black for a few seconds and then recovers,
  b) the laptop cannot be used after the lid has been closed. The power LED is
lit (no stand-by) but screen is blank. No reaction to any key, also cannot open
a terminal with Ctrl-Alt-Fx. Only a hard reset is possible.

None of these problems occur with Kernel 6.5.0-45.

I have previously attempted to use Ubuntu 24.04 LTS but faced exactly
the same issues, therefore I re-installed Ubuntu 22.04 LTS which was
working stable until yesterdays kernel upgrade.

While working with 24.04 LTS for a few weeks I also noted frequent,
random and complete system freezes which made it unusable with that
  laptop.

[Bug 2078660] [NEW] urxvt starts with first prompt near line 50 instead of top of window

2024-09-01 Thread Jeff Abrahamson
Public bug reported:

On starting urxvt, it appears to assume a 24 line window and put the
first prompt 23 lines above the bottom. Whereas my window renders as 91
lines of text.

I would expect the first prompt to appear at top of window, regardless
of window size. This was the behaviour before 22.04 LTS -> 24.04 LTS
upgrade.

[Bug 1872002] Re: [SRU] cqrlog needs to depend on mariadb instead of mysql

2024-09-01 Thread AsciiWolf
If changing the CQRLOG MySQL Server dependency to depend on MariaDB
specifically instead of the meta package is not suitable for Ubuntu,
then I think that it will be better to remove the cqrlog package from
the Ubuntu repository instead of shipping a completely broken one.

It is very clearly stated on multiple places that CQRLOG requires
MariaDB:

https://github.com/ok2cqr/cqrlog/blob/master/help/index_right.html#L101
https://github.com/ok2cqr/cqrlog/commit/95ba6e6e96d644b01413d1f395cafa1d3855f1e1
https://github.com/ok2cqr/cqrlog/issues/291#issuecomment-770383265

Anyway, let's wait for the upstream author reply.

I am using a xymon hosts.cfg that was running fine with Ubuntu 22.04.4
(xymon 4.3.30-1build2). I tried a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 OS install and got
the same response.

** Affects: xymon (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Chris, do you mean to execute apport-collect while the problem is
happening? Bearing in mind this issue renders the system unusable within
minutes upon startup?

[Bug 1958019]

2024-09-01 Thread mustapha.hadeed
I'm not really sure why it was the case, but I able to temporarily (10
minutes or so) fix the audio problem in my Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16IRX9H
following the comment here:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=2142917#p2142917

Quoting from the shared link, here's the solution that worked briefly
(wasn't really worth it as I had to restart and it didn't last enough
[U+1F62D]):

> I simply renamed/backed up the folder ~/.local/state/wireplumber to
> ~/.local/state/wireplumber.bak. Then, after rebooting, the wireplumber folder
> and its configuration files were recreated and the sound was working.

I'm running Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS with 6.8.0-41-generic kernel.

[Bug 2078656] [NEW] NIC speed down to 10 Mbps after resuming from suspend

2024-09-01 Thread Kevin Yeh
Public bug reported:

[Summary]

During the SRU testing, I found at least 2 DUTs always timeout after
suspend test, after checking I found that both of them only detect 10
Mbps speed on their NIC and can't get IP from DHCP.

Part of journal log as follows:
Sep 02 10:55:00 ubuntu kernel: PM: suspend entry (s2idle)
...
...
Sep 02 10:55:11 ubuntu kernel: PM: suspend exit

Sep 02 10:55:15 ubuntu kernel: e1000e :00:1f.6 enp0s31f6: NIC Link is Up 10
Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: None

[Expected result]

SRU test can continue after suspend test and network speed should be
1000 Mbps.

[Actual result]

SRU test times out and network speed down to 10 Mbps.

[Additional information]

Following are the DUTs that are impacted.

[Bug 2078307] Re: Grub 2.12 in Oracular is unable to boot Windows using chainloader

2024-09-01 Thread Mate Kukri
You need to pull the code from https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-uefi-
team/grub/+git/ubuntu/+ref/ubuntu?, and the version you want is
2.12-5ubuntu5...

That will boot Windows 10 and 11 just fine. Test that
