[Bug 2078656] Re: NIC speed down to 10 Mbps after resuming from suspend
The issue should be fixed in 6.8.0-44.44 by below commit commit 27e70aa72937bcfd08ffc10727ad315f9763e6ac Author: Hui Wang Date: Thu Jul 18 16:57:16 2024 +0800 e1000e: move force SMBUS near the end of enable_ulp function BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2073358 The commit 861e8086029e ("e1000e: move force SMBUS from enable ulp function to avoid PHY loss issue") introduces a regression on PCH_MTP_I219_LM18 (PCIID: 0x8086550A). Without the referred commit, the ethernet works well after suspend and resume, but after applying the commit, the ethernet couldn't work anymore after the resume and the dmesg shows that the NIC link changes to 10Mbps (1000Mbps originally): [ 43.305084] e1000e :00:1f.6 enp0s31f6: NIC Link is Up 10 Mbps Full Duplex, Flow Control: Rx/Tx Without the commit, the force SMBUS code will not be executed if "return 0" or "goto out" is executed in the enable_ulp(), and in my case, the "goto out" is executed since FWSM_FW_VALID is set. But after applying the commit, the force SMBUS code will be ran unconditionally. Here move the force SMBUS code back to enable_ulp() and put it immediately ahead of hw->phy.ops.release(hw), this could allow the longest settling time as possible for interface in this function and doesn't change the original code logic. The issue was found on a Lenovo laptop with the ethernet hw as below: 00:1f.6 Ethernet controller [0200]: Intel Corporation Device [8086:550a] (rev 20). And this patch is verified (cable plug and unplug, system suspend and resume) on Lenovo laptops with ethernet hw: [8086:550a], [8086:550b], [8086:15bb], [8086:15be], [8086:1a1f], [8086:1a1c] and [8086:0dc7]. [Bug 2057687] Re: systemctl hibernate error: "Call to Hibernate failed: Invalid argument"
Upgraded from Ubuntu 22.04 to 24.04 and now hibernate fails with "Invalid argument". Tried the steps from #2 and this leads to the error "Not enough suitable swap space for hibernation available on compatible block devices and file systems" although hibernating worked fine before updating. After a reboot I'm back to "Invalid argument". When following the advice to /sys/power/resume the error is gone but instead of hibernating the screen goes black for a moment and then the desktop returns. Also, when looking into the file later the content returned to "0:0". What works is pm-hibernate but I wouldn't know how to add it to the power menu and power button. [Bug 2078568] Re: gnome-terminal dont recognize all fonts that are installed
GNOME Terminal, by design, only shows you fonts that are marked as monospace (a.k.a. fixed width). Terminal emulation, by its very nature, uses a strict grid of cells, and proportional (non-monospace) fonts are usually unusable, or extremely ugly at least. If the said font is a monospace one, but isn't marked as such, please get in touch with its developers to mark it accordingly. Until then, as a workaround, you can open dconf-editor, navigate to /org/gnome/terminal/legacy/profiles: followed by the profile ID, and under its "font" entry you can set whatever font you wish to use in GNOME Terminal, including proportional ones. There's also a command line equivalent to this operation using the dconf or gsettings command, should you need to automate the task. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2078568 Title: gnome-terminal dont recognize all fonts that are installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/2078568/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2078659] [NEW] io_uring: ensure IOPOLL locks around deferred work
Public bug reported: [Impact] io_commit_cqring() writes the CQ ring tail to make it visible and also triggers any deferred work. When a ring is set up with IOPOLL, it doesn't require locking around the CQ ring updates. However, if there is deferred work that needs processing, io_queue_deferred() assumes that the completion_lock is held. The io_uring subsystem does not properly handle locking for rings with IOPOLL, leading to a double-free vulnerability, which can be exploited as CVE-2023-21400. [Fix] There is a commit fixed this issue: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=fb348857e7b67eefe365052f1423427b66dedbf3 There is no direct upstream commit exist for this issue, and the patch needs to be rework to applied to 5.4. [Test Plan] This is a timing issue that can be verified by testing the normal behavior. The test should cover the exact call path and ensure that no deadlock occurs. For the userspace program, you can implement it using the liburing library and choose the XFS filesystem, as it implements the iopoll function hook. The io_uring_params flag should be set to (IORING_SETUP_SQPOLL | IORING_SETUP_IOPOLL) and use O_DIRECT to open the XFS file for reading operations. The test should be executed multiple times to ensure that no deadlocks occur. [Where problems could occur] The problematic call path can be triggered under specific usage scenarios and only affects io_uring functionality. If the patch contains any issues, it may lead to a deadlock. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Chengen Du (chengendu) Status: New ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Focal) Assignee: (unassigned) => Chengen Du (chengendu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2078659 Title: io_uring: ensure IOPOLL locks around deferred work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2078659/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2078615] [NEW] Right-click Context Menu Items Remain Highlighted After Dragging Cursor Outside the Menu
Public bug reported: Affected Version -Version: GNOME Nautilus 46.2 -Distribution: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Steps to reproduce 1.Right-click anywhere in Nautilus to open the context menu. 2.Select an item in the menu and hold down the mouse button. 3.While holding the button, drag the cursor outside of the context menu and release the mouse button. 4.Move the cursor back into the context menu; you will see the previously selected item remains highlighted as if it is still pressed. Expected Behavior When the cursor is dragged outside of the context menu, the highlighted selection should be cleared as soon as the mouse button is released. [Bug 1905166] Re: systemd-shutdown cannot detach DM
Following-up my previous comment: While dracut-core initially seemed to fix the corruption problem, I did eventually get some small corruption again (which BTRFS immediately detected), and it turns out that at some point I had started getting some (smaller) shutdown errors again (I don't know why): systemd-shutdown[1]: Could not detach DM /dm/dm-3: Device or resource busy systemd-shutdown[1]: Could not detach DM /dm/dm-0: Device or resource busy systemd-shutdown[1]: Failed to finalize DM devices, ignoring. As I'd since bought & switched to a new NVMe drive, which is large enough to completely contain my cached / and /home partitions, I disabled lvmcache, and switched to LVM -type raid1 --mirrors 1 instead (with --raidwritemostly used to avoid reading from my slow spinning disk of rust). This appears to have completely solved my shutdown errors, but I have not yet tried disabling dracut-core to see if that's still needed. [Bug 2077405] Re: External screen flashing and cannot use after laptop lid closed
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: With Kernel 6.8.0-40 (upgraded yesterday) a) the external screen connected to my Lenovo T14 ThinkPad randomly turns black for a few seconds and then recovers, b) the laptop cannot be used after the lid has been closed. The power LED is lit (no stand-by) but screen is blank. No reaction to any key, also cannot open a terminal with Ctrl-Alt-Fx. Only a hard reset is possible. None of these problems occur with Kernel 6.5.0-45. I have previously attempted to use Ubuntu 24.04 LTS but faced exactly the same issues, therefore I re-installed Ubuntu 22.04 LTS which was working stable until yesterdays kernel upgrade. While working with 24.04 LTS for a few weeks I also noted frequent, random and complete system freezes which made it unusable with that laptop. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS Release: 22.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 Package: linux-image-6.8.0-40-generic 6.8.0-40.40~22.04.3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.8.0-40.40~22.04.3-generic 6.8.12 Uname: Linux 6.8.0-40-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu82.6 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: XFCE Date: Tue Aug 20 10:27:32 2024 InstallationDate: Installed on 2024-08-05 (14 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 22.04.4 LTS "Jammy Jellyfish" - Release amd64 (20240216.1) SourcePackage: linux-signed-hwe-6.8 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu82.6 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: oligri 1236 F pulseaudio + CRDA: N/A + CasperMD5CheckResult: pass + CurrentDesktop: XFCE + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2024-08-05 (27 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 22.04.4 LTS "Jammy Jellyfish" - Release amd64 (20240216.1) + MachineType: LENOVO 20S0007LMX + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcFB: 0 i915drmfb + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-6.8.0-40-generic root=/dev/mapper/vgxubuntu-root ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.8.0-40.40~22.04.3-generic 6.8.12 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-6.8.0-40-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-6.8.0-40-generic N/A + linux-firmware20220329.git681281e4-0ubuntu3.31 + Tags: jammy + Uname: Linux 6.8.0-40-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin lxd plugdev sambashare sudo + _MarkForUpload: True + dmi.bios.date: 08/26/2020 + dmi.bios.release: 1.13 + dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.bios.version: N2XET23W (1.13 ) + dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available + dmi.board.name: 20S0007LMX + dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.board.version: SDK0J40697 WIN + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information + dmi.chassis.type: 10 + dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO + dmi.chassis.version: None + dmi.ec.firmware.release: 1.7 + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrN2XET23W(1.13):bd08/26/2020:br1.13:efr1.7:svnLENOVO:pn20S0007LMX:pvrThinkPadT14Gen1:rvnLENOVO:rn20S0007LMX:rvrSDK0J40697WIN:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNone:skuLENOVO_MT_20S0_BU_Think_FM_ThinkPadT14Gen1: + dmi.product.family: ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 + dmi.product.name: 20S0007LMX + dmi.product.sku: LENOVO_MT_20S0_BU_Think_FM_ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 + dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T14 Gen 1 + dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO ** Attachment added: "AlsaInfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2077405/+attachment/5812094/+files/AlsaInfo.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2077405 Title: External screen flashing and cannot use after laptop lid closed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2077405/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2078660] [NEW] urxvt starts with first prompt near line 50 instead of top of window
Public bug reported: On starting urxvt, it appears to assume a 24 line window and put the first prompt 23 lines above the bottom. Whereas my window renders as 91 lines of text. I would expect the first prompt to appear at top of window, regardless of window size. This was the behaviour before 22.04 LTS -> 24.04 LTS upgrade. [Bug 1872002] Re: [SRU] cqrlog needs to depend on mariadb instead of mysql
If changing the CQRLOG MySQL Server dependency to depend on MariaDB specifically instead of the meta package is not suitable for Ubuntu, then I think that it will be better to remove the cqrlog package from the Ubuntu repository instead of shipping a completely broken one. It is very clearly stated on multiple places that CQRLOG requires MariaDB: https://github.com/ok2cqr/cqrlog/blob/master/help/index_right.html#L101 https://github.com/ok2cqr/cqrlog/commit/95ba6e6e96d644b01413d1f395cafa1d3855f1e1 https://github.com/ok2cqr/cqrlog/issues/291#issuecomment-770383265 Anyway, let's wait for the upstream author reply. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872002 Title: [SRU] cqrlog needs to depend on mariadb instead of mysql To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cqrlog/+bug/1872002/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
