[Bug 2077795] [NEW] After a weekly update the nvidia-driver-545 that I used because it was the most reliable stopped working and reverted back to nouveau drivers that barely work
Public bug reported: Hi, Hope you are keeping well and sorry that I have to post this bug. First I'll get the 4 questions listed here first, then add more info afterwards: 1) lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS Release:22.04 2) apt-cache policy nvidia-driver-535 nvidia-driver-535: Installed: 535.183.01-0ubuntu0.22.04.1 Candidate: 535.183.01-0ubuntu0.22.04.1 Version table: *** 535.183.01-0ubuntu0.22.04.1 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-updates/restricted amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-security/restricted amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status apt-cache policy nvidia-driver-545 nvidia-driver-545: Installed: (none) Candidate: 545.29.06-0ubuntu0.22.04.2 Version table: 545.29.06-0ubuntu0.22.04.2 500 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-updates/restricted amd64 Packages 3) Expected the nvidia-driver-545 to remain installed that I had previously, and work as normal after the weekly updates. 4) After the weekly updates, the kernel module compile for 545 failed and reverted back to the nouveau driver which resulted in very red and yellow toned screen on reboot. Then I had to fumble my way to get the 535 driver barely being able to see what I was typing on screen. More info: After a weekly update the nvidia-driver-545 that I used because it was the most reliable stopped working and reverted back to nouveau drivers that barely works at all. When I try to install the 545 driver back, I get compile errors for the kernel modules. I know nvidia drivers are always hit or miss on Linux, so I'm not overly surprised (its why I'm not on the latest). However, the 535 driver (although works) has issues with rendering some applications (and show up as a black square), or performance stutters when watching videos or moving windows around the screen. The other issues are that 3D rendering, video processing, AI, gaming and a bunch of other GPU based workflows just don't work well with the 535 driver. The reason I used the 545 driver was because non of those issues existed there, and any issues were mild in comparison to the 535 driver. I'm not sure what has changed between linux-image-6.5.0-45-generic (previous) and linux-image-6.8.0-40-generic (current), but the change is obviously affecting the 545 and above drivers. I can also no longer see the 550 or 555 drivers (which I presume are even worse). If there is anything I can do to help diagnose the problem, please let me know and I'll provide anything you need. Hopefully this gets resolved soon - especially on the LTS branches. [Bug 2063899] Re: [SRU] Users are not initially configured properly for audio in Ubuntu Studio
Uhoh... I found a regression. When dbus tried to upgrade this morning, I ran into an issue where it tried to re-create a system user with a --group flag, which is mutually- exclusive of the --ingroup of the adduser wrapper. Therefore, I had to add some checks to make the wrapper check for the mutually-exclusive options before adding a user to the audio group. If it finds the mutually-exclusive options, it will pass the command line to the actual adduser command unchanged now. ** Tags removed: verification-done verification-done-noble ** Tags added: verification-failed verification-failed-noble ** Changed in: ubuntustudio-default-settings (Ubuntu Noble) Status: Fix Committed => In Progress ** Changed in: ubuntustudio-default-settings (Ubuntu Oracular) Status: Fix Released => In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2063899 Title: [SRU] Users are not initially configured properly for audio in Ubuntu Studio To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-desktop-provision/+bug/2063899/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2077802] [NEW] After latest udate the hangs on mounting SD media reader.
Public bug reported: (I believe) After the latest Ubuntu update (automatic update via updater), I can no longer access media from the internal SD reader. Device hangs trying to manually mount or fsck the media, this also prevents proper shutdown waiting on udev device. Booting into an older kernel does not exhibit the issue. After reboot with media installed, lsblk shows the device and proper partition sizes but hangs on access (mount or fsck). This occurs only on the internal media reader (PCI interface) on Dell E6220 with the latest kernel. USB adapter does not exhibit the issue using the same SD card and kernel. don@E6220:~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS Release:22.04 don@E6220:~$ don@E6220:~$ uname -a Linux E6220 6.8.0-40-generic #40~22.04.3-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Tue Jul 30 17:30:19 UTC 2 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 Package: linux-image-6.8.0-40-generic 6.8.0-40.40~22.04.3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.8.0-40.40~22.04.3-generic 6.8.12 Uname: Linux 6.8.0-40-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu82.6 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: unknown CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sat Aug 24 13:09:39 2024 HotplugNewDevices: HotplugNewMounts: InstallationDate: Installed on 2023-03-19 (523 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20220831) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: linux-signed-hwe-6.8 Symptom: storage UdevMonitorLog: monitor will print the received events for: UDEV - the event which udev sends out after rule processing UdisksMonitorLog: Monitoring the udisks daemon. [Bug 2077803] [NEW] Touchpad devices not found
Public bug reported: General information: $ cat /proc/version_signature Ubuntu 6.8.0-31.31-generic 6.8.1 $ lsb_release -rd No LSB modules are available. Description:Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Release:24.04 Three months ago I upgraded from Ubuntu 23 to Ubuntu 24. Somehow this upgrade process went wrong because the Linux kernel did not update from driver version=6.5.0-35-generic to 6.8.0-31-generic. On Ubuntu 24.04 + Linux 6.5 everything works fine and there are no difficulties other than not being able to install an appropriate version of `linux-tools- generic` from apt. I am now intending to upgrade the Linux kernel to 6.8.0-31-generic, I have the two kernels available side by side at the bios menu on the same machine. The touchpad is not functional at all when using Linux 6.8. [Bug 2074309] Re: upgrade 22.04 -> 24.04 won't start due to feature flags
Hi, actually I do not have any problem to fix anymore since the workaround procedure with podman described above totally solved my problem. (Improvement: replace 127 with $(id -u rabbitmq) and 138 with $(id -g rabbitmq) But to test the bug fix I've setup a fresh 22.04 in LXD, installed rabbitmq-server, enabled -proposed, copied my backup of my old server into /var/lib/rabbitmq and ran a do-release-upgrade -p. And yes, the upgrade was denied: Unable to upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Currently, you have RabbitMQ server installed, which is not directly upgradable to the newer version. Upgrading may prevent the server from starting due to missing feature flags. For more information, please see https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2074309. Ursprünglicher Systemzustand wird wieder hergestellt Wird abgebrochen So yes, it kept me from breaking the server. However, I'd suggest to extend the message a bit, since a not so experienced admin just wouldn't know what to do now. I'd suggest to tell the three options: - stay safe, but outdated at 22.04 (for unknown time) - lose your database and all your data, and complete purge the rabbitmq- server package, do update, and do fresh install from scratch - stop daemon, backup /var/lib/rabbitmq, remove, but not purge the package, do the upgrade, use the workaround procedure with podman as described above (and no warranty that it works and images are still available), and reinstall/start. [Bug 2048517] Re: EPYC-Rome model without XSAVES may break live migration since the removal of the flag on the physical CPU
Verification done with focal-proposed (now -updates). As discussed with Andreas last Thursday, we had positive, general feedback from Managed Solutions (formerly Bootstack) with the package still in focal-proposed, but wanted to do a more detailed testing. Here is a more detailed verification of the test plan, performed in Oracle Cloud with 2 bare-metal instances (type/shape: BM.Standard.E3, AMD EPYC 7742/"EPYC-Rome"). [1] https://docs.oracle.com/en- us/iaas/Content/Compute/References/computeshapes.htm I performed an Openstack Ussuri (Ubuntu Focal) deployment with Juju on virtual machines for all other components; only the Nova Compute components run on such bare-metal. (This has many steps and details, not covered in here.) Summary: --- This test covered the test plan: * Start a VM before/after the package upgrade (focal-proposed), checking the VM XML for that flag (e.g., policy change from require to disable) * Ensure that nova is able to start *with* and *without* enable/disable cpu flag changes. * Ensure live migration works on both ways across the 2 hypervisors *with* and *without* enable/disable cpu flag changes. [Bug 2077810] [NEW] Xorg freeze on wayland
Public bug reported: When trying to use Wayland, the machine freezes semi-randomly, I can blindly click to pause video playback if there is any, the screen doesn't black out, it just freezes and doesn't change from then on. Most of my usage includes heavy video watching, namely Twitch, Youtube, Kick, Afreecatv and Plex. I watch on Firefox and Brave mostly. It seems to mostly happen when changing which window is focused, but it's not exclusive to video playback. ~ lsb_release -rd No LSB modules are available. If you've had several, how often does it occur? Every few hours? Once or twice a day? Couple times a week? - After a few hours on Wayland, at most within 24 hours after switching to Wayland. The following times happen within minutes of the hard reboot to recovery. When did you first notice it? - I've had the same issue on Wayland since being on 22.04 using nvidia 545 drivers. I tried again after updating to 555 drivers on the 'graphics-drivers' PPA, issue repeated itself. Today I swapped to 560-open (no longer on the graphics-drivers PPA), and tried to use Wayland again, but same issue. Under what conditions does it seem most likely to reproduce? - Switching between desktops and window focus, I keep 2 firefox windows open, one per display, and 1 brave window open, it happens most frequently when swapping from brave to firefox on the opposite display, but is not exclusive, and can happen when there's no video playback in any of the browsers. Gonna mention, I'm not new to Linux, but am very new to Desktop Linux. I submitted this bug while on X11 because I couldn't keep it from freezing for long enough for the ubuntu-bug utility to gather information while on Wayland. Not sure if that data is getting submitted along this form, or separately, so, sry if I'm making more work needlessly. Public bug reported: I wanted to upgrade my nvidia driver, becuase I am having extreme issues with cpu spikes with nvidia-modest associated with SYN_DROPPED events in system log files. I used the ubuntu auto install and selected 545 driver. But it failed to install. [Bug 2077814] [NEW] Kernel Modules Not Installed for Kernel 6.2 Using ubuntu-drivers
Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS. I used ubuntu-drivers (0.9.6.2~0.22.04.6) to try and install NVIDIA drivers 535 and 470 on Ubuntu 22.04, but the kernel modules are only installed for the 6.8 kernel (my default kernel), leading to a failure to boot into the 6.2 kernel. Specifically, this causes GDM to fail to start, with the logs showing the following error messages repeated over and over: 00:36:29 gdm3: Gdm: GdmDisplay: Session never registered, failing 00:35:58 kernel: modprobe: FATAL: Module nvidia not found in directory /lib/modules/6.2.0-26-generic 00:35:48 modprobe: modprobe: FATAL: Module nvidia not found in directory /lib/modules/6.2.0-26-generic The issue did not occur when kernel 6.2 was my default, so it likely affects any non-default kernel versions installed. [Bug 2077815] [NEW] Kernel 6.8: Incompatibility with NVIDIA Drivers Causing System Freezes, Crashes, and Suspend Failures
Public bug reported: After upgrading to kernel 6.8 on Ubuntu 22.04.4, the system frequently freezes, crashes, and always fails to resume from suspend when using NVIDIA drivers (e.g., 535, 470). The issues do not occur with the Nouveau driver, nor do they occur with earlier kernels like 6.2, though I did experience occasional crashes in kernel 6.5. I haven't noticed anything revealing in the logs, other than: [drm:nv_drm_master_set [nvidia_drm]] *ERROR* [nvidia-drm] [GPU ID 0x0100] Failed to grab modeset ownership However, I see this error message with all kernel versions, including kernel 6.2 which works flawlessly, so I think it's unlikely it has anything to do with the issue.
