[Bug 2076213] [NEW] eventinj ubuntu_kvm_unit_test bionic:oracle-5.4 flaky "vec 32/int $33"
Public bug reported: Found with bionic:linux-oracle-5.4 (5.4.0-1129.138~18.04.1) on Oracle:VM.Standard.E3.Flex-4c.8m for 2024.07.08 cycle. eventinj test failed (see the following log) due to interrupt handler for a NMI (int $33) not running before interrupt handler for a maskable interrupt (vec 32). In test, NMI is send immediately after enabling maskable interrupts with the following sequence asm volatile ("sti; int $33"); in line 313. After "sti" instruction (which enables interrupts) there is a delay for next instruction to execute. However, it is also stated in Intel® 64 and IA-32 Architectures Software Developer’s Manual ( https://software.intel.com/en-us/download/intel-64-and- ia-32-architectures-sdm-combined- volumes-1-2a-2b-2c-2d-3a-3b-3c-3d-and-4): "The IF flag and the STI and CLI instructions do not prohibit the generation of exceptions and nonmaskable interrupts (NMIs). However, NMIs (and system-management interrupts) may be inhibited on the instruction boundary following an execution of STI that begins with IF = 0." This test passed after 4 runs, first 3 runs failed in the same way (see logs below). This could be that test is either flaky (more likely) or we have a race condition (less likely, can be caused by lack of memory/instruction barriers). This test is hinted for focal:linux- oracle-5.15 (5.15.0-1063) for the same reason which leans toward test being flaky. I just wanted to record the issue to keep an eye on this, I am not going to permanently hint this test for now. 13:51:20 INFO | STARTubuntu_kvm_unit_tests.eventinj ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests.eventinjtimestamp=1722693080timeout=1800 localtime=Aug 03 13:51:20 13:51:20 DEBUG| Persistent state client._record_indent now set to 2 13:51:20 DEBUG| Persistent state client.unexpected_reboot now set to ('ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests.eventinj', 'ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests.eventinj') 13:51:20 DEBUG| Waiting for pid 15374 for 1800 seconds 13:51:20 DEBUG| Running 'kvm-ok' 13:51:20 DEBUG| [stdout] INFO: /dev/kvm exists 13:51:20 DEBUG| [stdout] KVM acceleration can be used 13:51:20 DEBUG| Running '/home/ubuntu/autotest/client/tmp/ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests/src/kvm-unit-tests/tests/eventinj' 13:51:20 DEBUG| [stdout] BUILD_HEAD=b04954c9 13:51:21 DEBUG| [stdout] timeout -k 1s --foreground 90s /usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 --no-reboot -nodefaults -device pc-testdev -device isa-debug-exit,iobase=0xf4,iosize=0x4 -vnc none -serial stdio -device pci-testdev -machine accel=kvm -kernel /tmp/tmp.dOXYNu6N1b -smp 1 # -initrd /tmp/tmp.U6zbIRL4sr 13:51:21 DEBUG| [stderr] qemu-system-x86_64: warning: host doesn't support requested feature: CPUID.01H:ECX.vmx [bit 5] 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] enabling apic 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] smp: waiting for 0 APs 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] paging enabled 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] cr0 = 80010011 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] cr3 = 1007000 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] cr4 = 20 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Try to divide by 0 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] DE isr running divider is 0 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Result is 150 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] PASS: DE exception 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Try int 3 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] BP isr running 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] After int 3 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] PASS: BP exception 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Sending vec 33 to self 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] irq1 running 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] After vec 33 to self 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] PASS: vec 33 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Try int $33 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] irq1 running 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] After int $33 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] PASS: int $33 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Sending vec 32 and 33 to self 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] irq1 running 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] irq0 running 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] After vec 32 and 33 to self 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] PASS: vec 32/33 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Sending vec 32 and int $33 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] irq0 running 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] irq1 running 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] After vec 32 and int $33 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] FAIL: vec 32/int $33 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Sending vec 33 and 62 and mask one with TPR 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] irq1 running 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] After 33/62 TPR test 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] PASS: TPR 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] irq0 running 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Before NP test 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] NP isr running 4008d9 err=18 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] irq1 running 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] After int33 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] PASS: NP exception 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Sending NMI to self 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] NMI isr running 0x406765 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Sending nested NMI to self 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] After nested NMI to self 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Nested NMI isr running rip=405da3 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] After NMI to self 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] PASS: NMI 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Before NMI IRET test 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Sending NMI to self 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] NMI isr running stack 0x1013000 13:51:22 DEBUG| [stdout] Sending ne

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. It would provide more value in noble proper, however if there are external reasons like a long review queue, I am perfectly ok with having this in noble-backports. I'd like to have it in the archive though rather than out of tree, as this is useful for users of image building tool in general, to provide a fully verified way of retrieving the keyrings. [Bug 2076147] Re: L2 Guest hung during LTP Tests. Back trace of paca->saved_r1 (0xc000000c1bc8bb00) (possibly stale) @ new_slab
** Description changed: + SRU Justification: + + [ Impact ] + + * KVM 2nd level guest (means KVM VM that runs nested on top of a Power 10 +PowerVM hypervisor) hangs during LTP (Linux Test Projects) test suite. + + * It hangs with: +"Back trace of paca->saved_r1 (0xc00c1bc8bb00) (possibly stale) @ new_slab" + + * Diagnosing the issues points this this fix/upstream-commit: +[commit message, by Barry Song ] +Within try_to_unmap_one(), page_vma_mapped_walk() races with other PTE +modifications preceded by pte clear. While iterating over PTEs of a large folio, +it only starts acquiring PTL from the first valid (present) PTE. +PTE modifications can temporarily set PTEs to pte_none. +Consequently, the initial PTEs of a large folio might be skipped +in try_to_unmap_one(). +For example, for an anon folio, if we skip PTE0, we may have PTE0 which is +still present, while PTE1 ~ PTE(nr_pages - 1) are swap entries after +try_to_unmap_one(). +So folio will be still mapped, the folio fails to be reclaimed and is put +back to LRU in this round. +This also breaks up PTEs optimization such as CONT-PTE on this large folio +and may lead to accident folio_split() afterwards. +And since a part of PTEs are now swap entries, accessing those parts will +introduce overhead - do_swap_page. +Although the kernel can withstand all of the above issues, the situation +still seems quite awkward and warrants making it more ideal. +The same race also occurs with small folios, but they have only one PTE, +thus, it won't be possible for them to be partially unmapped. +This patch [see below] holds PTL from PTE0, allowing us to avoid reading +PTE values that are in the process of being transformed. With stable PTE +values, we can ensure that this large folio is either completely reclaimed +or that all PTEs remain untouched in this round. +A corner case is that if we hold PTL from PTE0 and most initial PTEs have +been really unmapped before that, we may increase the duration of holding +PTL. Thus we only apply this optimization to folios which are still entirely +mapped (not in deferred_split list). + + [ Fix ] + + * 73bc32875ee9 73bc32875ee9b1881dd780308c6793fe463fe803 +"mm: hold PTL from the first PTE while reclaiming a large folio" + + [ Test Plan ] + + * An IBM Power 10 system (where PowerVM is mandatory) +running Ubuntu Server 24.04 (kernel 6.8) or later +with (nested) KVM setup (so KVM on top of PowerVM). + + * Run LTP test suite +Tests running: SLS(io,base) + + * Without the patch the above test will hang with +Back trace of paca->saved_r1 (0xc00c1bc8bb00) (possibly stale) @ new_slab + + [ Where problems could occur ] + + * This is a common code change in the memory management sub-system, +hence great care needs to be taken, even if it was discussed upfront +at the https://lore.kernel.org/ mailing list and the upstream commit +provenance shows that many eyes had a look at this. + + * The modification is relatively small with just one if statement +(across two lines) in mm/vmscan.c. + + * This change is to assist 'try_to_unmap' to acquire page table locks (PTL) +from the first page table entry (PTE) and to eliminate the influence of +temporary and volatile PTE values. + + * If done wrong it can especially have a negative impact in case of large folios. +and wrong hints might be given to try_to_unmap +which may lead to bad page swapping. + + * In case of an issue with this patch the result can also be decreased +performance and efficiency in the page table handling - the opposite +of what the patch is supposed to address. + + * Fortunately several developers had their eyes on this commit, +as the provenance of the patch and the discussion ot lkml shows. + + [ Other Info ] + + * The commit is upstream since v6.10(-rc1), hence it will be included +in oracular with the planned target kernel. + + __ + == Comment: #0 - SEETEENA THOUFEEK - 2024-08-06 00:20:57 == +++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #206372 +++ ---Problem Description--- L2 Guest hung during LTP Tests. [Bug 2076223] [NEW] Keyboard Layout Order Results in Wrong Keys
Public bug reported: Introduction: I am currently working with Xubuntu 24.04 and I have a problem with the keyboard layouts. I have a physical English keyboard, but have installed the "Spanish" and "English (UK)" keyboard. What I expected and what happened: If the keyboard layout priority in xfce4-keyboard-settings is "English (UK)" and then "Spanish", the key that is on the left of Z should produce the "<" and ">" characters if the Spanish keyboard layout is selected. However, the characters "\" and "|" are shown in screen, just as if I still had the English keyboard. The rest of the keys work properly as far as I have tested. Workaround: Changing the layout order so that "Spanish" is the first option and then the "English (UK)" layout seems to work. This fix does not seem to make sense but it works. In previous Ubuntu LTS versions the PCAP support was available and compiled into the packages. We set the following configuration parameters in /etc/fwknop/fwknopd.conf PCAP_INTF eth0; PCAP_FILTER udp port 12345; TCPSERV_PORT12345; Here is the current situation and log output: Our current OS (with latest updates): No LSB modules are available. Description:Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Release:24.04 Our current fwknop-server version: # apt-cache policy fwknop-server fwknop-server: Installed: 2.6.10-20.2build3 Candidate: 2.6.10-20.2build3 Version table: *** 2.6.10-20.2build3 500 500 http://mirror.hetzner.de/ubuntu/packages noble/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu noble/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status This is the syslog extraction when starting fwknopd. As you can see, it warns about PCAP not compiled into the package and it is also not picking up the port 12345, which we set in the configuration, but rather falls back to 62201 port: 2024-08-07T11:40:42.998970+02:00 ugi fwknopd[1697]: pcap capture not compiled in, forcing UDP server mode 2024-08-07T11:40:42.999133+02:00 ugi fwknopd[1697]: Warning: REQUIRE_SOURCE_ADDRESS not enabled for access stanza source: 'ANY' 2024-08-07T11:40:42.999641+02:00 ugi fwknopd[1698]: Starting fwknopd 2024-08-07T11:40:43.081144+02:00 ugi fwknopd[1698]: Added jump rule from chain: INPUT to chain: FWKNOP_INPUT 2024-08-07T11:40:43.091031+02:00 ugi fwknopd[1698]: iptables 'comment' match is available 2024-08-07T11:40:43.091107+02:00 ugi fwknopd[1698]: Kicking off UDP server to listen on port 62201. [Bug 2076227] [NEW] shim(-signed) NX support feature freeze exception request
Public bug reported: This is a high priority feature Canonical was developing during the Oracular Oriole cycle. The GRUB piece has already hit the archive before FF as 2.12-1ubuntu9 (with 2.12-5ubuntu1 under review), but asking for an exception on the shim pieces due to Microsoft signing being required. The following changes are being made: - shim package: effectively identical upstream source, with minor changes to produce two executables, one with the NX_COMPAT set and another without - shim-signed package: changes to choose which shim to install: + existing installation will get non-NX shim on package upgrades + new installations will get the NX shim Code has already been tested and is available in the following repositories: - https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-uefi-team/+git/shim/+ref/master - https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-uefi-team/+git/shim-signed/+ref/master Testing in the above context means that both shims have been verified to boot correctly, with additional testing for the shim installation mechanism, and additional testing for the NX shim under the Microsoft Mu firmware that has an NX enforcing mode. Usable self-signed test builds of the new shims can be found in my nx- testing PPA https://launchpad.net/~mkukri/+archive/ubuntu/nx-testing, with the real shim for MS submission having been built in the usual place at https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-uefi-team/+archive/ubuntu/build. The shim-review required for MS submission is under internal review, then we will submit the shim-review to the community, and the shim afterwards for MS signing. ** Affects: shim (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: shim-signed (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: shim-signed (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - shim(-signed) NX support feature freeze exception + shim(-signed) NX support feature freeze exception request -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2076227 Title: shim(-signed) NX support feature freeze exception request To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim/+bug/2076227/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2074559] Re: [nouveau][Samsung SyncMaster] Top margin of secondary monitor covered with black flickering rectangle
I wonder whether your observation about refresh rate isn't on the right track. The drop-down list in Settings > Displays > Samsung Electric Company 22" > Refresh Rate is as follows (in Hz): 120.00 110.00 100.00 89.94 59.95 59.88 The default setting is for 59.88Hz, where I get clipping. If I change to 59.95Hz then I cannot seem to trigger clipping. When swapping from 59.95Hz to 59.88Hz, though, I get immediate clipping. Clipping is also induced when I select 100.00, 110.00, or 120.00; at 89.94Hz, the entire screen is black. The only reliable performance appears to be at 59.95Hz. Therefore, your earlier suggestion to try different refresh rates is the likely solution, here. However, I would expect to see stable performance at least at 120Hz, that being approximately an integer multiple of 59.95Hz. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2074559 Title: [nouveau][Samsung SyncMaster] Top margin of secondary monitor covered with black flickering rectangle To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2074559/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2065915] Re: [SRU] Add multiarch lines for each architecture we want to support in our apparmor profiles.
I've accepted most of these. Thank you for working on this! For kmail, the changelog seemed to be based on Oracular instead of Noble as expected, and used a confusing version number. I have replaced that upload for you, also minimising whitespace changes. I will accept this one and reject the older upload shortly. The one upload that I see remaining is tellico. This seems to contain unrelated changes. There's a Standards-Version change that is extraneous in an SRU (nor mentioned in the changelog) and should be dropped. But there also a Build-Depends change from pkg-config to pkgconf that isn't mentioned in the changelog. Is this necessary to get the build to work, or can it also be dropped? I'll reject the upload for now; please re- upload with this corrected - either drop the unnecessary change, or if it is necessary then it must be mentioned in the changelog, SRU documentation for the change must be present, etc. If re-uploading then it isn't necessary but would be nice for the change to debian/tellico-apparmor to not contain any extra whitespace changes so that the diff is clean. I did this when I fixed kmail and noticed it was also clean in one or two of the other packages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2065915 Title: [SRU] Add multiarch lines for each architecture we want to support in our apparmor profiles. [Bug 2076191] Re: gpsmon crashes (segfault)
Thank you for taking the time to report a bug and improve Ubuntu. It is good to know that you can reproduce this problem locally and have also checked that the upstream patch seems to fix it. If I understand correctly, it's not possible to trigger the issue without having specific GPS hardware, right? If that's the case, then we will need your help to test the fix when doing the SRU. Otherwise, would you be able to provide a simple reproducer that doesn't depend on GPS hardware? Thanks. ** Changed in: gpsd (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2076191 Title: gpsmon crashes (segfault) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gpsd/+bug/2076191/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2075525] Re: After screen blank, the displays configuration gets lost
In order to restore the monitors to "extend" I manually detached and re-attached the hdmi cable of the second monitor. I was confident that it could work, given that I verified to have installed the updates that you linked me previously. 1. The session crashed with the sad monitor picture: "Oh no! Something has gone wrong." and I only could log out (which killed all the running apps). 2. After re-logging on the monitor positions were inverted 3. A soon as I opened the display window to fix the monitor positions, they reverted to the correct position automatically (I didn´t have to make any change) You may be interested in the attched screenshot which also show a "ghost" monitor which does not exist. I have three monitors but the third is currently detached from weeks to better make diagnostics about this weird issue.
