[Bug 2055402] Re: Though lintian call: error: troff: Segmentation fault
I would like to add a small correction here regarding the intent of man- db's AppArmor policy. The intent is _not_ to confine where the man program itself can write, as is noted in the policy itself: # Allow basically anything in terms of file system access, subject to DAC. # The purpose of this profile isn't to confine man itself (that might be # nice in the future, but is tricky since it's quite configurable), but to # confine the processes it calls that parse untrusted data. /** mrixwlk, However, the man_groff sub-profile is more constrained, and that's used for the groff-related subprocesses that man forks. That's what's triggering denials here. In some ways I wonder if that means that the problem is a leaky abstraction of sorts. We're trying to confine man's groff-related subprocesses, but we pass through FDs to them. One possibility might be to have groff write to a pipe instead in this situation and stream it through man to the output file. Slightly less efficient, but it might not be too unreasonable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055402 Title: Though lintian call: error: troff: Segmentation fault To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lintian/+bug/2055402/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2064716] Re: gnome-terminal darkened by visual bell during screensaver
** Description changed: + Problem: visual bell during screensaver turns terminal very dark with no + remedy. + + Reproducing: + + - Settings -> Accessibility -> Hearing -> Visual Alerts -> On + (Flash the entire Window) + + - Open a gnome-terminal + + - type: xdg-screensaver activate; printf '\a' + + - Wake up the screensaver, and notice that the window in which there was + a bell, is darker. + + Tested and reproduced on: + + - Jammy (2024-06-15) + - Noble (2024-07-04) + + - + Original ticket below + v + Symptoms Sometimes, when coming back to my laptop, and unlocking an existing GNOME session, I find that my gnome-terminal has turned very dark. I have found no triggers (other than session unlock) and no fixes to undo the darkness. It looks like this: https://junk.devs.nu/2024/lp2064716-gnome-terminal-turned-dark/gnome-terminal-very-dark-on-the-right.png ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/2064716/+attachment/5774287/+files/gnome-terminal-very-dark-on-the-right.png ) The window on the right is the one I found after unlocking my GNOME session. The window on the left was a second terminal I started, which has the normal brightness. Using some color picking, I can say that the brightness has been reduced by 70%-85%. Here's an animation of the window: https://junk.devs.nu/2024/lp2064716-gnome-terminal-turned-dark/gnome-terminal-turned-very-dark.webm ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/2064716/+attachment/5774288/+files/gnome-terminal-turned-very-dark.webm ) The video shows: - The dark window in a smaller state; - settings are opened, and switched to bright colors; - both the good and the bad terminals get lighter, but the bad terminal is still way too dark; - moving the window to the right shows a glitch in the glitch where the bottom-most row has normal colors. Versions - Ubuntu Jammy 22.04 (many versions) - gnome-terminal 3.44.0-1ubuntu1 - libmutter 42.9-0ubuntu7 I thought it might be a Wayland thing, but I switched back to Xorg recently and the problem wasn't gone. I've not seen this bug with Focal. And my colleagues haven't seen the bug either. Followup I have no idea where to look further. I did some probing with xprop on the window, that gave me no useful info, and may likely not be relevant as Wayland is also affected. Any suggestions to get to the bottom of this is appreciated. Unfortunately, I don't know how to trigger the bug. I always have terminals open, and only 1% of the time (ball park) when unlocking does this occur. Let me know. Cheers! [Bug 2071363] Re: netplan apply triggers udev add events for every network interface
systemd-udevd does not apply ethtool changes, that are defined in a .link file, on a CHANGE uevent anymore, as of systemd v265. It still seems to apply those changes for ADD, BIND & MOVE udev actions, though. Going with a MOVE action seems more senstible here, as that should cover all the cases Netplan needs and avoid triggering the above mentioned cloud-init rule, running on ADD uevents. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2071363 Title: netplan apply triggers udev add events for every network interface To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/2071363/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2061744] Re: Evolution crashes on launch: libevolution-rss-common.so: cannot open shared object file
The crash and the "Could not load /usr/lib/evolution-data-server/camel- providers/libcamelrss.so: libevolution-rss-common.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" message look like two different issues. I'm changing this bug description to track the missing library issue, which only causes evolution to not support adding or showing RSS feeds, since that's what was fixed in 3.52.1-4, and SRU the fix to noble. If you still see the crash after this has been fixed, please file a different bug report. ** Summary changed: - Evolution crashes on launch: libevolution-rss-common.so: cannot open shared object file + Evolution does not handle RSS feeds anymore: libevolution-rss-common.so: cannot open shared object file -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2061744 Title: Evolution does not handle RSS feeds anymore: libevolution-rss- common.so: cannot open shared object file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/2061744/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2071468] Re: ELF package metadata failure: environment variable ‘DEB_HOST_ARCH’ not defined
** Description changed: The ELF package note metadata introduced in dpkg 1.22.6ubuntu11 (refined in 1.22.6ubuntu14) can cause this failure: ``` gcc fatal error: environment variable ‘DEB_HOST_ARCH’ not defined ``` This happens when the `-specs=/usr/share/dpkg/elf-package- metadata.specs` parameter is set but the needed environment variables are not set. Cases: 1. Only the LDFLAGS is queried from dpkg-buildflags. Affected source packages builds: python3.12, openjdk-21, cdbs (causing dvbstreamer and rp-pppoe fail to build) 2. autopkgtests 3. debugging a crash of an application build with the -spec parameter This approach is too fragile. An alternative approach would be to specify the `--package-metadata` linker flag directly. The problem with that approach is that the curly brackets and quotation marks need to be escaped. Example failure: Building dpkg would add this parameter to the LDFLAGS: ``` -Wl,--package-metadata,{"type":"deb","os":"ubuntu","name":"dpkg","version":"1.22.6ubuntu15","architecture":"amd64"} ``` The following configure script call (non-relevant parameters deleted): ``` $ gcc -Wl,--package-metadata,{type:deb,os:ubuntu,name:dpkg,version:1.22.6ubuntu15,architecture:amd64} /usr/bin/ld: cannot find {type:deb: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: cannot find os:ubuntu: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: cannot find name:dpkg: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: cannot find version:1.22.6ubuntu15: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: cannot find architecture:amd64}: No such file or directory ``` + 4. People like to iteratively continue building the software in the + build dir while hacking on the package and then have no environment + variable set. + Proposed solution: Add support for an `--escaped-package-metadata` parameter to the linkers that takes an URL encoded (RFC 3986) parameter. [Bug 2071702] Re: Black screen freeze
Thanks. It seems the issue is that the kernel graphics driver failed to initialize: Jul 04 09:52:48 loonix kernel: amdgpu :05:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu_device_ip_init failed Jul 04 09:52:48 loonix kernel: amdgpu :05:00.0: amdgpu: Fatal error during GPU init Jul 04 09:52:48 loonix kernel: amdgpu :05:00.0: amdgpu: amdgpu: finishing device. and then it crashed. So a black screen is expected... The next thing to try is to choose a kernel version older than 5.15.0-113.123-generic at startup. You can do that by accessing the grub menu. Soon after you see the BIOS logo when rebooting, tap Escape once, and that should give you the grub menu. There you can select the previously installed kernel version. Another thing to try is to change the machine over to the hardware enablement kernel. [Bug 2071717] Re: [MIR] linuxptp
Review for Source Package: linuxp2p [Summary] MIR team ACK under the constraint to resolve the below listed required TODOs and as much as possible having a look at the recommended TODOs. This does need a security review, so I'll assign ubuntu-security List of specific binary packages to be promoted to main: linuxptp Specific binary packages built, but NOT to be promoted to main: - Required TODOs: - #1 This is exposed externally and runs with high permission as well as influence due to the importance of time to certificate checks. I really would want to see better use of isolation features before we encourage use more widely. In particular please look at: - surely: use a lof of the systemd isolation features - surely: create and test apparmor profiles for the binaries that run as service - maybe: running less privileged - #6 Please merge the latest version (4.2 at the moment) Recommended TODOs: - #2 I'm happy to see that you have added clknetsim based autopkgtests already. But since this has no build time tests at all and also upstream testing seems to be manual according to https://linuxptp.sourceforge.net/ we should try to do a bit more. The content in debian/tests/linuxptp-testsuite is the same as clknetsim - so I guess that can be removed. I'm not sure what can be done without upstreams support on e.g. unit tests. But I'd ask to discuss it with them and refer the discussion here. If there is something that could be done, do it. Otherwise at least we know why. - #3 You mentioned that checkbox, but that includes setup steps with physical access to the device. Could you outline how one could trigger these tests (e.g. after a bigger change or merge) themselve. Or if it really needs a person in front of the device who would be needed to get contacted to run such a test against a new build e.g. in a PPA? - #4 If we'd onboard that today (not a MIR rule, but a server team rule since we shall own it later) it would also need some reasonable documentation entries like https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/how-to-serve-the-network-time-protocol-with-chrony Along your testing e.g. to get isolation right you will have gained the experience how to set this up well which will enable you to write that. - #5 submit the Delta (your testing and the former config path change) to Debian Nothing we have is super-special, mostly added QA which helps us as well if spotted earlier or even in Debian already. - #7 There are some bugs open that can get very painful later but need some time to dive deeper to get fixed. In particular into how it can manage service dependencies to its configured network devices better. Some are easy, other might need complex things, maybe even netlink enablement in the code? But it does not have to be that complex, the services should wait on %I network device and php2sys waits on a synchronized ptp4l. Yet the bug exists so give these an evaluation so we only skip them once we have a good reason why: - https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1004744 - https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1070847 [Rationale, Duplication and Ownership] There is no other package in main providing the same functionality. It is easily mistaken for doing the same as systemd-timesyncd and chrony, but it is different. For a large or partially uncontrollable network NTP based implementations will be better. Yet on small, controlled networks where it can be ensured that all HW on the path supported PTP it is better to use PTP. There is a fusion of the two using PTP based HW features as PHC clock in chrony but that isn't the same either. A team is committed to own long term maintenance of this package. In this particular case the current approach is (we will let you know if that changes) that PE/Industrial will do the enablement work to get it ready for main and the Server team will do the long term maintenance and monitoring comittment. The rationale given in the report seems valid and useful for certain sets of Ubuntu users. [Dependencies] OK: - no other Dependencies to MIR due to this - no -dev/-debug/-doc packages that need exclusion - No dependencies in main that are only superficially tested requiring more tests now. Problems: None [Embedded sources and static linking] OK: - no embedded source present - no static linking - does not have unexpected Built-Using entries - not a go package, no extra constraints to consider in that regard - not a rust package, no extra constraints to consider in that regard Problems: None [Security] OK: - history of CVEs does not look concerning - does not use webkit1,2 - does not use lib*v8 directly - does not process arbitrary web content - does not use centralized online accounts - does not integrate arbitrary javascript into the desktop - does not deal with system authenticatio
[Bug 2071926] [NEW] Timer sound repeatedly firing after the timer has ended
Public bug reported: Ubuntu release: 24.04 LTS gnome-clocks version: 46.0-1build1 After starting and completing the timer, the timer completion sound continues to fire periodically. If multiple timers are started and completed, the amount of sounds increases. I haven't been able to verify this, but I suspect it happens at regular intervals coinciding with the timer's length, because when strting the same timer back-to-back (when cooking), I end up with clusters of "dings" happening roughly at the same time. This persists until the app is quit and restarted. ** Affects: gnome-clocks (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2071926 Title: Timer sound repeatedly firing after the timer has ended To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-clocks/+bug/2071926/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for filing the Debian bug. I agree what the comment isn't very clear on the "Require all denied" vs "Options FollowSymLinks" precedente (which I believe is where the confusion lies). Looks like things have been like this for a long time (apparently those lines have been the same for >10 years), so I'm giving this Low importance. [Bug 2071785] Re: OpenLDAP (slapd) is broken in Ubuntu 22.04 after upgrade to version 2.5.17+dfsg-0ubuntu0.22.04.1
Hello and thank you for reporting this bug. Let me confirm that I have understood your steps correctly: * You had a Jammy system running slapd version 2.5.16+dfsg-0ubuntu0, and it was working fine. * You upgraded the system, which included updating several packages, including slapd (to version 2.5.17+dfsg-0ubuntu0.22.04.1, indicating that you have jammy-updates enabled). * After the upgrade, you noticed the crash. You rolled back to the pre- upgrade snapshot, and everything worked fine again. * You then tried updating *only* slapd (using `apt update` and `apt install slapd`), and it started crashing again. Therefore, you deduce that the problem is with slapd. Is this correct? There is a new version of slapd available in jammy-proposed. Can you please try installing it and check if the crash still occurs? For instructions on how to enable -proposed and selectively install packages from it, please see this guide. I tried to reproduce your issue by installing slapd 2.5.17+dfsg-0ubuntu0.22.04.1 and running /usr/sbin/slapd, but it did not crash for me. This version of slapd was released to jammy-updates in March 2024, so it is unlikely to be an issue affecting the most common configurations. [Bug 2071885] Re: System takes 5 Minutes (300 Seconds) to Boot - Regression of previous BUG ?
I shut my PC down and restarted a few Hours afterwards. The only change in between was that Tang Host #1 was properly unlocked this time and could properly reply Clevis requests when the Client was booting. So ... maybe there is something going on where Clevis sees the Host up (ping probably success BEFORE the Server is unlocked ?) and thinks it's available. There are 3 other Tang Servers (that are fully operationnal) so I don't get why it gets stuck when the 1st one (1st Clevis/Tang Keyslot in LUKS, 2nd one after LUKS Passphrase) doesn't reply. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2071885 Title: System takes 5 Minutes (300 Seconds) to Boot - Regression of previous BUG ?
