TEST FAILED:
/<>/debian/criu/usr/local/lib/python3.12/dist-packages/ does NOT

bad install directory or PYTHONPATH

You are attempting to install a package to a directory that is not
on PYTHONPATH and which Python does not read ".pth" files from. The
installation directory you specified (via --install-dir, --prefix, or
the distutils default setting) was:

/<>/debian/criu/usr/local/lib/python3.12/dist-packages/

and your PYTHONPATH environment variable currently contains:

''

Here are some of your options for correcting the problem:

* You can choose a different installation directory, i.e., one that is
  on PYTHONPATH or supports .pth files

* You can add the installation directory to the PYTHONPATH environment
  variable. (It must then also be on PYTHONPATH whenever you run
  Python and want to use the package(s) you are installing.)

* You can set up the installation directory to support ".pth" files by
  using one of the approaches described here:

https://setuptools.pypa.io/en/latest/deprecated/easy_install.html#custom-
installation-locations

Please make the appropriate changes for your system and try again.

[Bug 2065747] Re: An unknown display appears in both the GNOME display manager and NVIDIA X Server Settings

2024-05-20 Thread Jhonny Oliveira
I have the same problem. I tested all drivers since nvidia-driver-535,
including the latest one from https://launchpad.net/~graphics-
drivers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa. So, at this point I'm not even sure this is
driver related. Apparently, I had no issues with the same driver(s) in
previous Ubuntu versions (<=23.10).

To avoid loosing the mouse into the ghost screen, I disable it every
time I login: "xrandr --auto && xrandr --output None-1-1 --off".

Please, let me know if there is any other bit information I may provide
to speed the resolution of this issue.

[Bug 2066157] [NEW] cpio 2.13+dfsg-2ubuntu0.4 breaks zfs build (alien command fails)

2024-05-20 Thread James Dingwall
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure where the true fault is but the problem only happens after
updating the cpio package from 2.13+dfsg-2ubuntu0.3 to
2.13+dfsg-2ubuntu0.3. The zfs build creates .rpms which are then
converted to .debs. The failure message is:

```
name=zfs; \
version=2.1.15-1; \
arch=`rpm -qp ${name}-kmod-${version}.src.rpm --qf %{arch} | tail -1`; \
debarch=`dpkg --print-architecture`; \
pkg1=kmod-${name}*${version}.${arch}.rpm; \
fakeroot alien --bump=0 --scripts --to-deb --target=$debarch $pkg1 || exit 1; \
rm -f $pkg1
kmod-zfs-5.15.0-107-generic_2.1.15-1_amd64.deb generated
kmod-zfs-devel_2.1.15-1_amd64.deb generated
Unpacking of 'kmod-zfs-devel-5.15.0-107-generic-2.1.15-1.x86_64.rpm' failed at
/usr/share/perl5/Alien/Package/Rpm.pm line 168,  line 315.
```

Looking at the alien source the command that fails is:

```
$this->do("rpm2cpio '".$this->filename."' | (cd $workdir; $decomp cpio
--extract --make-directories --no-absolute-filenames
--preserve-modification-time) 2>&1")
or die "Unpacking of '".$this->filename."' failed";
```

Examining the content of the .rpm:

```
# rpm -qlv kmod-zfs-devel-5.4.0-174-lowlatency-2.1.15-1.x86_64.rpm
lrwxrwxrwx1 rootroot   34 May 20 09:14
Changing the command being executed for testing purposes:
```

[Bug 2066158] [NEW] Can't boot to SD OS when insert empty USB driver

2024-05-20 Thread kengyen-chen
Public bug reported:

In /boot/efi/EFI/ububtu/grub.cfg
We add "set root(hd0,gpt2)" and remove Search fs_uuid this line.
We find SD will change to hd1 when we insert a empty USB drive, it will can't
boot into Linux.

1. How to fix the SD hardware sequence be hd0 ?
2. If SD partition have no FS_UUID, how to config search by PART_UUID ?

Thanks,

[Bug 2066159] [NEW] Bluetooth Headset randomly has no sound anymore

2024-05-20 Thread Luuk Perdaems
Public bug reported:

I use the Sony WH1000XM3 headset, which I connect with using Bluetooth.
Connection works fine, but after x minutes (usually around 10) the sound just
randomly stops.
When testing the output device in sounds, I hear nothing.
When checking with the bluetoothctl program, the headset jumps into the idle
state once the sound stops.
When reconnecting with the device, the sound works fine again.
When checking with the pavucontrol program, the audio output bar hangs at a
fixed location (see screenshot).
Nothing else odds that I have found

According to ubuntu-bug the pulseaudio crashed.

[Bug 2066157] Re: cpio 2.13+dfsg-2ubuntu0.4 breaks zfs build (alien command fails)

2024-05-20 Thread James Dingwall
** Description changed:

  I'm not sure where the true fault is but the problem only happens after
  updating the cpio package from 2.13+dfsg-2ubuntu0.3 to
  2.13+dfsg-2ubuntu0.3. The zfs build creates .rpms which are then
  converted to .debs. The failure message is:

  ```
  name=zfs; \
  version=2.1.15-1; \
  arch=`rpm -qp ${name}-kmod-${version}.src.rpm --qf %{arch} | tail -1`; \
  debarch=`dpkg --print-architecture`; \
  pkg1=kmod-${name}*${version}.${arch}.rpm; \
  fakeroot alien --bump=0 --scripts --to-deb --target=$debarch $pkg1 || exit 1;
\
  rm -f $pkg1
  kmod-zfs-5.15.0-107-generic_2.1.15-1_amd64.deb generated
at /usr/share/perl5/Alien/Package/Rpm.pm line 168,  line 315.
  ```

  Looking at the alien source the command that fails is:

  ```
- $this->do("rpm2cpio '".$this->filename."' | (cd $workdir; $decomp
cpio --extract --make-directories --no-absolute-filenames
--preserve-modification-time) 2>&1")
- or die "Unpacking of '".$this->filename."' failed";
+ $this->do("rpm2cpio '".$this->filename."' | (cd $workdir; $decomp
cpio --extract --make-directories --no-absolute-filenames
--preserve-modification-time) 2>&1")
+ or die "Unpacking of '".$this->filename."' failed";
  ```

  Examining the content of the .rpm:

  ```
  # rpm -qlv kmod-zfs-devel-5.4.0-174-lowlatency-2.1.15-1.x86_64.rpm
[Bug 2061830] Re: Limit supported pci-id's to the new ones added by 550
2024-05-20 Thread faattori
Well, I braved any driver issues and I can confirm the 535 drivers
supported the 4080 Super enough to go into X without any issues where I
could then use the ubuntu-drivers to install the 550 driver series.
[Bug 2065685] Re: aa-logprof fails with 'runbindable' error
2024-05-20 Thread Maxime Bélair
@Christian Thank you for pointing this out. After investigation, I found
that this bug stems from the following restriction not being implemented
consistently in aa-* and apparmor_parser.
 > $ man 2 mount
 >
 > If mountflags includes one of MS_SHARED, MS_PRIVATE, MS_SLAVE, or
 > MS_UNBINDABLE [...] The source, and filesystemtype [...] arguments are
 > ignored.
- In aa-* : source must be empty, or it will trigger an error (cf. this bug).
- In apparmor_parser : source and destination cannot be set simultaneously
(leading to the behavior you described). Also setting the source or the
destination is equivalent. That means that `mount options=(unbindable) /a,` and
`mount options=(unbindable) -> /a,` are equivalent
This bug should be fixed by
https://gitlab.com/apparmor/apparmor/-/merge_requests/1236, which aligns
the behavior of aa-* to apparmor_parser, since this the latter is more
permissive.
[Bug 2055114] Re: fail2ban is broken in 24.04 Noble
2024-05-20 Thread snowieoxs
Okay, I have been looking at all the comments, and provided links in
this thread for a couple hours now, and I'm still not sure what needs to
be done here. I do see there are workarounds, but what does a guy need
to do to make it so that the apt package works with noble? This is a
serious security issue that needs attention, If anyone wants try and get
this to working this week I am available to help test/collab.
[Bug 2060992] Re: aws: Support hibernation on Graviton
2024-05-20 Thread Ubuntu Kernel Bot
This bug is awaiting verification that the linux-aws/5.15.0-1063.69
kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and
update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the
[Bug 1728031] Re: [SRU] Unable to change user password when ENFORCE_PASSWORD_CHECK is True
2024-05-20 Thread Rodrigo Barbieri
** Description changed:
  After following the security hardening guidelines:
https://docs.openstack.org/security-guide/dashboard/checklist.html#check-dashboard-09-is-enforce-password-check-set-to-true
  After this check is enabled
  Check-Dashboard-09: Is ENFORCE_PASSWORD_CHECK set to True
  The user password cannot be changed.
  The form submission fails by displaying that admin password is incorrect.
  The reason for this is in keystone.py in openstack_dashboard/api/keystone.py
  user_verify_admin_password method uses internal url to communicate with the
keystone.
  line 500:
  endpoint = _get_endpoint_url(request, 'internalURL')
  This should be changed to adminURL
  ===
  SRU Description
  ===
  [Impact]
  Admins cannot change user's password as it gives an error saying that the
admin's password is incorrect, despite being correct. There are 2 causes:
  1) due to the lack of user_domain being specified when validating the admin's
password, it will always fail if the admin is not registered in the "default"
domain, because the user_domain defaults to "default" when not specified.
  2) even if the admin user is registered in the "default" domain, it may fail
due to the wrong endpoint being used in the request to validate the admin's
password.
  The issues are fixed in 2 separate patches [1] and [2]. However, [2] is
introducing a new config option, while [1] alone is also enough to fix the
occurrence on some deployments. We are including only [1] in the SRU.
[Bug 2055409] Re: [SRU] config OPENSTACK_INSTANCE_RETRIEVE_IP_ADDRESSES does not apply to instance detail page
2024-05-20 Thread Rodrigo Barbieri
** Description changed:
  Setting the config option OPENSTACK_INSTANCE_RETRIEVE_IP_ADDRESSES to
  False successfully allows skipping neutron calls when loading the
  instance list page, therefore speeding up page loading. However, when
  clicking on an instance and loading the instance details page it still
  makes the neutron calls, taking a very long time.
  The usage of the config option in the code could be adjusted to also be
  used when loading the instance details page, thus speeding up the page
  loading there as well.
  ===
  SRU Description
  ===
  [Impact]
  Environments that have too many neutron ports struggle to load the
  instance list and instance detail pages. The existing config
  OPENSTACK_INSTANCE_RETRIEVE_IP_ADDRESSES allows speeding up the instance
  list but it is not being used when loading a single instance detail
  page. By using the config option when loading the instance detail page
  as well, we speed up instance detail page loading and we have minimal
  side effects, which are already the same seen when displaying the list
  (more info about the side effects at [1])
  [Test case]
  1. Setting up the env
  1a. Deploy openstack env with horizon/openstack-dashboard
  1b. Declare and set OPENSTACK_INSTANCE_RETRIEVE_IP_ADDRESSES to False in
  /etc/openstack-dashboard/local_settings.py and restart apache2
  2. Prepare to reproduce the bug
  2a. Create a single VM successfully
  2b. As we cannot easily create enough ports in the lab to replicate the
  slowness, we will rely on the message being present in the logs.
  Therefore, at this step we enable debug in horizon to see the messages.
  Set DEBUG to True in /etc/openstack-dashboard/local_settings.py and
  restart apache2.
  3. Reproducing the bug
  3a. Load the instance list page and verify that the following messages
  are not present in the logs:
  GET /v2.0/floatingips?port_id=...
  GET /v2.0/ports?tenant_id=...
  GET /v2.0/networks?id=...
  GET /v2.0/subnets
  3b. Click on the instance to load the detail page and verify that the
  following messages ARE present in the logs:
  GET /v2.0/floatingips?port_id=...
  GET /v2.0/ports?tenant_id=...
  GET /v2.0/networks?id=...
  GET /v2.0/subnets
  5. Install package that contains the fixed code
  6. Confirm fix
  6a. Repeat step 3a.
  6b. Click on the instance to load the detail page and verify that the
  following messages are NOT present in the logs:
  GET /v2.0/floatingips?port_id=...
  GET /v2.0/ports?tenant_id=...
  GET /v2.0/networks?id=...
  GET /v2.0/subnets
- [Regression Potential]
+ [Where problems could occur]
  The code has tested in upstream CI (without the addition of bug-specific
  functional tests) from master(Caracal) to stable/zed without any issue
  captured. Side effects documented at [1]. The code itself is a simple
  2-liner with minimal to none chance of regression due to narrow scope of
  code change impact.
  [Other Info]
  None.
Hello, the patch mentioned in
looks adding an additional dependency, without explaining why it was added.
Can you please provide more information and also a changelog? It can be changed
[Bug 2066168] Re: Boot failure: Haswell+NVIDIA on ThinkPad W541
2024-05-20 Thread DiagonalArg
apport information
** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu)
** Tags added: apport-collected mantic
** Description changed:
  Basically vanilla install of 23.10 on a Thinkpad W541 (same as W540,
  basically), which has a Haswell CPU and NVIDIA GK107.
  When I boot, it fails at:
 "Job gpu-manager.service/ start running...".
  Rebooting with C-M- sticks@ "gpu-manager.service/stop".
  With nomodeset, boot freezes at:
 snd_hda_intel :00:03.0: couldn't bind with audio component
 snd_hda_intel :00:03.0: HSW/BDW HD-audio HDMI/DP requires binding with
gfx driver
  If I remove 'gfxmode $linux_gfx_mode' & add nomodeset, it boots.
  In that latter state:
  $ inxi -G
  Graphics:
Device-1: Intel 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics driver: N/A
Device-2: NVIDIA GK107GLM [Quadro K1100M] driver: N/A
Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 1.21.1.7 with: Xwayland v: 23.2.0 driver: X:
  loaded: vesa unloaded: fbdev,modesetting dri: swrast gpu: N/A
  resolution: 1920x1080
API: OpenGL v: 4.5 Mesa 23.2.1-1ubuntu3.1 renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 15.0.7
  256 bits)
  On an identical machine, **running Linux Mint**, things work fine.  Note
  the drivers:
  $inxi -G  # NB!  Basically identical machine running **Linux Mint**
  Graphics:
Device-1: Intel 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics driver: i915
  v: kernel
Device-2: NVIDIA GK107GLM [Quadro K1100M] driver: nouveau v: kernel
Device-3: Chicony Integrated Camera type: USB driver: uvcvideo
Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 1.21.1.4 driver: X: loaded: modesetting
OpenGL: renderer: Mesa Intel HD Graphics 4600 (HSW GT2)
  v: 4.6 Mesa 23.2.1-1ubuntu3.1~22.04.2
  Things I have tried:
  1. That thinkpad, with the newest BIOS, has no way to select the GPU.
  2. Attacking the sound driver issue, nomodeset with these parameters did not
change the symptoms:
 a. intel_iommu=on,igfx_off
 b. snd_intel_dspcfg.dsp_driver=1  (I also tried 2 or 3)
 c. snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0
[Bug 2066158] Re: Can't boot to SD OS when insert empty USB driver
2024-05-20 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu
that you are using.
Please note, bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.
I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709.
[Bug 2066158] Re: Can't boot to SD OS when insert empty USB driver
2024-05-20 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 2066158
When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
[Bug 2066168] Re: Boot failure: Haswell+NVIDIA on ThinkPad W541
2024-05-20 Thread DiagonalArg
I attempted to boot with gfxmode on and without nomodeset, getting stuck
at gpu-manager.service/start.  C-A- left me stuck at gpu-
manager.service/stop, so I used the sysrq keys to reboot.  This time I
turned gfxmode off and used nomodeset, and so was able to boot.
Running:
`journalctl -kb-1`
I'm attaching the output here.
[Bug 2066172] [NEW] gnome-kiosk is missing dependencies
2024-05-20 Thread raffaello bertini
Public bug reported:
gnome-kiosk doesn't work when installed on an ubuntu-server minimal: it
is missing some dependencies that are installed through the ubuntu-
minimum-desktop.
I don't know exactly which ones, but it looks like that a gnome-session
and gdm3 are not present so a gnome-kiosk can't be really run.
P.S.
also during the installation of gdm3 and gnome-session (do not know which one)
there is an error due to the missing gnome-remote-desktop as i don't need it
neither:
error: gnome-remote-desktop no such file or process
** Affects: gnome-kiosk (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
[Bug 2063985] Re: Does not detect hotplugged storage device
2024-05-20 Thread Paul Berry
I am unable to mount two, USB connected, external drives, that I use for
backups, after installing 24.04.
One is HD and the other is SSD.
When connected to the computer, both drives are visible in Nautilus,  but can't
be mounted.
Naucan be used to eject the drives.
I am able to mount three, different, USB memory sticks and transfer
files using Nautilus.
[Bug 2063221] Re: Drop libglib2.0-0 transitional package
2024-05-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package glib2.0 - 2.80.1-0ubuntu2
---
glib2.0 (2.80.1-0ubuntu2) oracular; urgency=medium
  * Fix doc build
glib2.0 (2.80.1-0ubuntu1) oracular; urgency=medium
  * New upstream release
  * Drop patches applied in new release
glib2.0 (2.80.0-10ubuntu1) oracular; urgency=medium
  * Merge with Debian. Remaining change:
- Don't enable sysprof integration in Ubuntu yet
glib2.0 (2.80.0-10) unstable; urgency=high
  * Team upload
  * d/patches: Add GDBus security fixes intended to be in 2.80.1
- If local users send signals on the D-Bus system bus that spoof a
  trusted sender, do not deliver them to signal subscriptions for the
  trusted sender's well-known bus name (CVE-2024-34397)
- Fix a use-after-free when subscribing to signals with an arg0
  match rule, originally from 2.79.0 and necessary to make the test
  for CVE-2024-34397 pass reliably
- Add a local backport of g_set_str(), required by the above
- Add proposed fix for a race condition that can cause a unit test
  to regress after the above
  * d/control: Add Breaks on gnome-shell (<< 44.9-2~).
The security fix breaks screen recording and screencasting in older
versions, so we should make sure both changes migrate together.
  * Set high urgency for security fix
I don't mind systemd-networkd-wait-online blocking the vlans that are
[Bug 2066183] [NEW] AppStream metadata allow user uninstallation of PackageKit
2024-05-20 Thread AsciiWolf
Public bug reported:
An AppStream metainfo file was added in PackageKit since v1.2.8.
Unfortunately, this file causes PackageKit to show in App Center, GNOME
Software, KDE Discover and other package management GUIs and allow users
to click an "Uninstall" button.
Please, consider removing the AppStream metainfo file from the Ubuntu
package until a better solution is found.
Here is an upstream PackageKit ticket:
[Bug 2066117] Re: sysstat.service is enabled by default on 24.04 lts
2024-05-20 Thread Athos Ribeiro
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Would you mind answering these following questions
questions:
* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
This will help us to find and resolve the problem.
Until then, since I find it hard to reason whether this is indeed a bug
or a local configuration issue, I am marking this bug as incomplete.
Please, set it back to new once the information is provided.
[Bug 2066187] [NEW] org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.XSettings.service fails to restart properly after GPU reset event
2024-05-20 Thread Jozef Behran
Public bug reported:
GNOME did not recover successfully from a GPU reset event. The system is
still running but no direct interaction with it is possible. Keyboard
appears to be running but the screen shows what was on it when the GPU
crashed.
Attached is a SYSLOG fragment showing the problem. At 04:12:09 the GPU
crashed. At 04:17:06 the crash was detected and a GPU reset was issued.
At 04:17:07 the org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.XSettings.service crashed with
"failure status". Subsequent attempts to restart it (10 shown) caused it
to terminate with "timeout status".
I reported this originally as an xorg bug because the computer became
completely unusable and the only way to recover was a hard power-off. I
could not even switch to another virtual console.
I can't tell which package exactly this occured in because the package
search does not work properly. It might be xorg itself but the failing
org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.XSettings.service suggests the problem to be
somewhere else.
I have installed the oracular version (1.1.0-2) on my 3 servers.
Why should I downgrade? failed udate policy
As I know ubuntu LTS, the package will not get any updates for the next
10 years anyway, so I can also install it via dpkg - makes no
difference.
