[Bug 2060924] Re: [Lenovo Ubuntu 24.04 Bug] Can not detect iscsi disk storage and kernel show " detected conn error (1020)"

2024-04-23 Thread xiaochun Lee
From continue investigate on it, we found the root cause is that
installer in Ubuntu can not sync the iscsi IQN name (iscsi qualified
name) defined in UEFI to OS /etc/iscsi/initiatorname.iscsi via iscsi
iBFT (iscsi boot firmware table), even we add dracut parameter
"rd.driver.pre=iscsi_ibft rd.iscsi.firmware=1 rd.iscsi.ibft=1
rd.iscsi.initiator=iqn.1986-03.com.example:lql
rd.iscsi.param=node.startup=automatic"

Ubuntu can detect the remote iscsi disk, If we overwrite the default
line in /etc/iscsi/initiaorname.iscsi to
"InitiatorName=iqn.1986-03.com.example:lql" manually and restart iscsid
and open-iscsi service.

Note: the string "iqn.1986-03.com.example:lql" is the name defined in
UEFI for iscsi target lun.

But after install OS to remote iscsi disk, we can not boot up from the
installed OS, because initrd doesn't include iscsi drivers (libiscsi,
scsi_transport_iscsi, iscsi_tcp, libiscsi_tcp) and services open-iscsi
and iscsid and their needed utilities, like iscsiadm, iscsid.

So I was just wondering of Canonical experts if Ubuntu support iscsi
installation or not?

[Bug 2048517] Re: EPYC-Rome model without XSAVES may break live migration since the removal of the flag on the physical CPU

2024-04-23 Thread Giuseppe Petralia
Hello Mauricio,

thanks for providing the nova patch. It worked as expected.

I installed on a node with xsaves enabled and updated nova.conf

# dpkg -l | grep nova
ii nova-api-metadata 2:21.2.4-0ubuntu2.7~ppa3
all OpenStack Compute - metadata API frontend
ii nova-common 2:21.2.4-0ubuntu2.7~ppa3
all OpenStack Compute - common files
ii nova-compute 2:21.2.4-0ubuntu2.7~ppa3
all OpenStack Compute - compute node base
ii nova-compute-kvm 2:21.2.4-0ubuntu2.7~ppa3
all OpenStack Compute - compute node (KVM)
ii nova-compute-libvirt 2:21.2.4-0ubuntu2.7~ppa3
all OpenStack Compute - compute node libvirt support
ii python3-nova 2:21.2.4-0ubuntu2.7~ppa3
all OpenStack Compute Python 3 libraries

# grep cpu_model /etc/nova/nova.conf
cpu_model = EPYC-Rome
cpu_model_extra_flags = -xsaves

Then I restarted nova-compute.

I had the following VM running which was using xsaves:

# virsh dumpxml instance-001499b6 | grep xsaves

I stopped/started the VM and the xsaves feature was disabled after that

# virsh dumpxml instance-001499b6 | grep xsaves

and that allowed me to migrate the VM to a node with xsaves disabled (newer
kernel)

I think next step should be to start SRU process for this patch,
correct?

Thanks,
Giuseppe

[Bug 2053254] Re: [FFe] Update urdfdom, dart and ignition-physics for Noble (Open Robotics packages)

2024-04-23 Thread Jose Luis Rivero
The ignition-common and ignition-physics packages has be removed from
Ubuntu in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ros-
catkin/+bug/2063103 yesterday.

It can be totally omitted totally. I'm going to close the MR and edit
the description.

** Summary changed:

- [FFe] Update urdfdom, dart and ignition-physics for Noble (Open Robotics
packages)
+ [FFe] Update urdfdom and dart for Noble (Open Robotics packages)

** Description changed:

Versions bump for the Open Robotics Community packages:
   - urdfdom to 4.0.0-0ubuntu1
     (Imported from https://salsa.debian.org/science-team/urdfdom)
   - dart to 6.13.1+ds-0ubuntu2
     https://git.launchpad.net/~j-rivero/ubuntu/+source/dart/log/?h=ubuntu/devel
-
- As a side effect ignition-physics package needs also to be patch updated:
-  - ignition-physics to 5.1.0+ds1-4.1ubuntu2
-    (Imported from https://salsa.debian.org/science-team/ignition-physics)
-
- The review found that there was a problem with a missing ignition-common
package in s390:
-  - ignition-common (needs a rev bump)
-
https://git.launchpad.net/~j-rivero/ubuntu/+source/ignition-common/log/?h=ubuntu/noble

  Package PPA:
   https://launchpad.net/~j-rivero/+archive/ubuntu/urdfdom4-noble/+packages

(three merge-request are ready for review)

  [Other info]

I have both version bumps ready on Debian but the 64bit_time transition[1] is
preventing the
packages to go through the lib transition since two weeks ago and counting.
As we want to
have these new versions in 24.04 (feature freeze is coming soon), we do the
version bump
  directly on Ubuntu.

  [Justification]

Important updates in a couple of packages used by the Open Robotics
Community, particularly affecting ROS (Robot Operative System) and the
- ignition/Gazebo simulator.
+ Gazebo simulator.

   * urdfdom is changing the ABI/API completely by replacing tinyxml with
tinyxml2
   * Dart current version 6.12.1 was released in .. 2019.

There are important bugfixes in DART, specially the fix for a ton of
compiler warnings with gcc-13 and patches for skeleton trees and
  grouping of constraints.

Both packages should be lintian clean.

  [Transition details]

- The PPA includes all direct dependencies of urfdom and DART (ignition-
- physics and ros-urdf).
-
-  * ignition-physics include a patch to work with new DART adding conditional
code to deal with
-    minor DART API renames.
+ The PPA includes all direct dependencies of urfdom and DART (ros-urdf).

All the previous architectures where the software was building before
are also supported in the update with an important exception: new DART
upstream releases do not support 32 bits, so armhf is lost from the
  list.

   - dart to 6.13.1+ds-0ubuntu2
     https://git.launchpad.net/~j-rivero/ubuntu/+source/dart/log/?h=ubuntu/devel

  Package PPA:
   https://launchpad.net/~j-rivero/+archive/ubuntu/urdfdom4-noble/+packages

(three merge-request are ready for review)

  [Other info]

I have both version bumps ready on Debian but the 64bit_time transition[1] is
preventing the
packages to go through the lib transition since two weeks ago and counting.
As we want to
have these new versions in 24.04 (feature freeze is coming soon), we do the
version bump
  directly on Ubuntu.

  [Justification]

Important updates in a couple of packages used by the Open Robotics
Community, particularly affecting ROS (Robot Operative System) and the
  Gazebo simulator.

The PPA includes all direct dependencies of urfdom and DART (ros-urdf).

All the previous architectures where the software was building before
are also supported in the update with an important exception: new DART
upstream releases do not support 32 bits, so armhf is lost from the
  list.

[Bug 2063189] [NEW] please remove android-platform-frameworks-native from ubuntu

2024-04-23 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

This package has a t64 transition in proposed which has not migrated...
the reason it has not migrated is that the only interesting binary
package this source builds (android-platform-frameworks-native-headers)
has long since been taken over by a different source package (android-
platform-tools). So this package should be removed (with care taken to
ensure that the android-platform-frameworks-native-headers binary
package does not get deleted as well!)

[Bug 2059756] Re: [SRU] adsys 0.14.1

2024-04-23 Thread Didier Roche-Tolomelli
** Changed in: golang-1.22 (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Fix Released

** Description changed:

  [context]
ADSys is a tool designed for administering and implementing Group Policy
Objects (GPOs) from Active Directory on Linux systems. It includes a suite of
services and commands that empower administrators to efficiently manage policy
updates and maintain compliance with organizational business rules.

Given that ADSys directly interfaces with Active Directory and needs to
align with new business requirements in LTS releases, it has been
essential to keep the package consistently updated with the latest
changes of ADSys upstream source. As ADSys is a key component of our
commercial offerings, our customers anticipate the availability of
recently implemented features in the 22.04 release.

Now that ADSys has a complete set of features, the request is to proceed
with a one-off release of ADSys 0.14.1 to 22.04. Please note that any
new features introduced in subsequent versions will be exclusively
available in 24.04 and later releases.

This version includes a comprehensive end to end automated test suite
that runs ADSys against a real Active directory environment.

Version 0.14.1 is available for 22.04 in a PPA
  (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-enterprise-desktop/+archive/ubuntu/adsys)
and already used in production by customers.

At this time of writing the number of open issues is 1 in Launchpad and
16 in GitHub including 6 enhancements. None of them have a high or
  critical importance.

[Bug 2060260] Re: [SRU] New upstream microrelease .NET 7.0.18 and SDK 7.0.118

2024-04-23 Thread Dominik Viererbe
Hello Timo (or someone else from the SRU Team), the dotnet7 (and also
dotnet6) package is known to contain a .git directory. I should have put
this in the SRU description. The build process gathers metadata that is
required. Upstream fixed this with dotnet8. We do not want to spend time
on backporting this, because .NET 7 will go EoL (upstream) in less than
a month (on 14th May 2024).

[Bug 2059303] Re: [UBUNTU 20.04] SE-tooling: New IBM host-key subject locality (s390-tools)

2024-04-23 Thread Frank Heimes
Hi @seth-arnold,
I am not in-depth familiar with security related updates (since they happen
rarely for me, and if private-security are handled by the security team anyway).

"
My assumption is that these package updates should be published first to
-updates for autopkgtest testing, and once they have passed testing and phased
to users, then we should republish these updates to -security so that they are
available to all users. Does this sound correct?
"
There are no autopkgtests (for historical reasons and since lot's of functions
in that package req. the hw to be configured in a certain way, which cannot
guaranteed by the build systems), but the packages get (and already got)
already manually tested upfront, with focus on the changes (according to test
plan in SRU justification).

"
This is much easier to execute if the updates have been built in a PPA with
only -security enabled, and not -updates. (The -security pocket is built with
only packages from -release and -security, not -updates.) Do packages built in
such a PPA exist?
"
I've now kicked off build in a -security only PPA here:
https://launchpad.net/~fheimes/+archive/ubuntu/lp2059303-sec
(so yes, they build there, but it'll take a while until published)

"
The SRU workflow asks for packages to be either uploaded with dput to the queue
or debdiffs provided. I see some debdiffs here, but some additional work was
performed after most of the debdiffs were uploaded.
"
The changes are some broken URL references in some quilt patch headers, I've
fixed those.

"
Are the posted debdiffs something that the SRU team should work with? The
Ubuntu Sponsors team was added around three weeks ago, before much of the work
was done, it's entirely possible that this has fallen off their radar as a
result. (And, the general hustle of responding to the xz-utils issue, release
time goals, etc.)
"
I think the debdiffs should be taken (as usual).
It's difficult to get SRUs processed around release times.

One concern I have is that copying the packages might not work, since there is
a bootloader component that is signed, and the signing key is based on the
location where the package is build.
Hence a package build in PPA will be signed with the PPA key and not with the
official ('production') key
and so copying it over from PPA to archive will probably mess up things.

So I believe the debdiffs need to be the base for an upload (by a
sponsor), then build for the archives (that will ensure signing with the
proper key), then published on -proposed, verified there and then
eventually released.

(I'm attaching the debdiffs again, with fixed urls)

[Bug 2048232] Re: [SRU] Backport to 22.04 LTS

2024-04-23 Thread Didier Roche-Tolomelli
** Description changed:

As part of our entreprise desktop offering, there is the request to
backport ubuntu-proxy-manager to 22.04 LTS. The package is in universe
  for now.

Ubuntu Proxy Manager is a D-Bus mediated service intended to be
triggered by ADSys, our Active Directory GPO integration. ADSys has been
available starting Ubuntu 21.04, and Ubuntu Proxy Manager was first
  released in Ubuntu 23.04.
+
+ It depends on the new golang 1.22 SRU attached to
+ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/golang-1.22/+bug/2059756

  [Impact]

   * ubuntu-proxy-manager is a new package. Impact is thus only for people
installing.
   * To leverage the functionality of the package, a recent enough ADSys
version must be used (at least 0.11.0, not currently in Jammy but there are
approved plans to backport ADSys 0.13.2).
   * In addition to the ADSys requirement above, the machine must be
Pro-enabled and a Proxy GPO must be configured on the Windows AD controller.
   * No impact is expected if the conditions above are not met.
   * This is a entreprise feature requested by desktop customers running LTS.

  [Test Plan]

   1. Configure your machine with AD, with a correctly configured SSSD and KRB5
(AD user should be able to log in). Instructions can be found on
https://github.com/ubuntu/adsys/wiki/2.-Prerequisites
   2. Install admx and adml files on your AD controller:
https://canonical-adsys.readthedocs-hosted.com/en/stable/how-to/set-up-ad/
   3. Join machine to Ubuntu Pro to enable proxy policy application
   4. Configure some proxy settings in AD
(https://canonical-adsys.readthedocs-hosted.com/en/stable/explanation/proxy/),
for instance:
    * HTTP Proxy
    * Ignored hosts
   5. Install ADSys (at least version 0.11.0) and ubuntu-proxy-manager, then
run `adsysctl update -m` to force a refresh of the policies
   6. Ensure GSettings/APT/environment proxy values are correctly set (full
list of supported proxy backends can be seen here:
https://github.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-proxy-manager#supported-backends)
   7. Remove/purge the ubuntu-proxy-manager package and run `adsysctl update
-m` again -- a warning should show reflecting that ADSys has detected a
configured proxy policy but ubuntu-proxy-manager is not installed for it to be
applied. ADSys's exit code will remain 0.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * Network access of various programs will be hindered if incorrect
  proxy settings are configured.

  [Other Info]

   * The current version of ADSys in Jammy does not interact with this package
whatsoever, but there are plans to backport the latest version.
   * A passing PPA build for ubuntu-proxy-manager can be seen here:
https://launchpad.net/~gabuscus/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+sourcepub/15678628/+listing-archive-extra
- * We have previously requested a FFe for ubuntu-proxy-manager for Focal:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jammy/+source/adsys/+bug/2012371

[Bug 2060624] Re: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice

2024-04-23 Thread Chris Guiver
I have made many installs of various boxes, and exploring logs of the
iso.qa.ubu link in comment #3 i see only two references to this issue
(within a few days of each other), which include the following

---
hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 8gb, amd/ati rv610/radeon hd2400 pro/xt)
testcase: install using existing partition
---

I've made four installs on that box today
(https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/453/builds/300140/testcases/1701/results/)
yet did NOT experience the issue. Currently the box has two installs
(first was full disk, then auto-resize equiv.. ) so I'll try and repeat
the install I made in the next hour+ and see if it occurs.

Lubuntu testcases are described here -
https://discourse.lubuntu.me/t/testing-checklist-understanding-the-
testcases/2743

but an INSTALL USING EXISTING PARTITION means

- boot install media
- using manual partitioning, selecting an existing partition (for /) BUT DO NOT
FORMAT (ie. re-use it...)

This is NO longer possible with Xubuntu as FORMAT is now mandatory (due to
another bug, scheduled for fix post-release of noble..)

I'll add some non-standard packages to one of my installed systems on
dc7700 (per testcase; something for installer to re-install), then
attempt to re-create this issue & reply back in an hour (or three) and
see if it re-occurs... then provide detailed description of what I did
(if issue re-occurs).

[Bug 2060624] Re: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice

2024-04-23 Thread Chris Guiver
I completed an install on dc7700

- two systems (noble) exist on drive
- boot install media (lubuntu noble RC)
- select partition (I selected SDA2, ignoring SDA1) for `/` WITHOUT FORMAT
- let it install

(this system is OLD, legacy-BIOS so no ESP; Lubuntu's calamares doesn't
create one by default for BIOS machine; iso.qa report at
https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/453/builds/300140/testcases/1701/results/)

on reboot; two options appeared in grub.

- SDA1 was in grub & when booted looked untouched
- SDA2 contained new install, file-system system directories all time-stamped
mins ago (not hours ago) as expected for new install.. packages I added are
present (fortune, clementine etc)..

I COULD NOT RE-CREATE THIS ISSUE..

Only difference between this and prior install could have been I
selected second partition (SDA2) where last time I selected SDA1?? but I
can't see that as making an difference; could it??

Given I've only experienced this issue twice, and could not re-create.. I'd be
happy with marking bug as INCOMPLETE..

I could re-try by installing to SDA1 (same type of install) if you think there
is any chance of difference.. but I couldn't re-create issue today (me
attempting same type of install on same box)

[Bug 2063200] [NEW] useradd --extrausers --groups tries to lock /etc/group

2024-04-23 Thread Valentin David
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu Core 24 calling the command line

useradd --extrausers --groups somegroup somenewuser

... fails with:

useradd: cannot lock /etc/group; try again later.

It worked on 22.04. /etc is not writable. It also fails if somegroup is
a group in extrausers.

[Bug 2060391] Re: gnome desktop cannot start as mutter fails to find drmModeCloseFB

2024-04-23 Thread DooMMasteR
Erkin you have the same issue I had

`/etc/ld.so.conf.d/`

should have a amdgpu conf that includes the externally packaged libs and
apparently this config slipped through the testing.

You can either uninstall the amdgpu-dkms stuff and the libs or just delete the
conf file that makes the dynamic linker include the old lib.
Then reboot and all should be fine.

2024-04-23 Thread Mate Kukri
Hi Chris, i'll try the same thing:
- two preinstalled noble system on MBR, with sda1 and sda2
- install lubuntu without reformat on sda1 first
- install lubuntu without reformat on sda2 second

If none of that reproduces, i'll mark it incomplete.

[Bug 2063204] [NEW] Desktop-Live ships /etc/netplan/01-network-manager-all.yaml in addition to /usr/lib/netplan/00-network-manager-all.yaml

2024-04-23 Thread Lukas Märdian
Public bug reported:

The /etc/netplan/01-network-manager-all.yaml, generated by livecd-rootfs,
shouldn't exist any more IIUC.
That functionality was moved into src:ubuntu-settings and shipped as
/usr/lib/netplan/00-network-manager-all.yaml

This is according to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-
settings/23.10.1

The duplicated "renderer: NetworkManager" doesn't cause any harm in the
live-session, AFAICT.

[Bug 2063203] [NEW] Build ubuntu-core-desktop images

2024-04-23 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

We want to be able to build iso installer images that would install
Ubuntu Core Desktop to target device. This is a completely new image and
product, but it's important to get building as early as possible.

The first core series that we want to support here is 24. However, due
to issues with the ubuntu-core-desktop installer snap, the snap does not
work on noble (which would be the best place to build the images from).
However, since Ubuntu Core Desktop is a separate entity outside of the
archive, it actually does not matter which Ubuntu series the 'installer'
part is. We can install Ubuntu Core Desktop 24 with no problems from a
mantic installer.

And this is what we want to do: backport the ubuntu-core-desktop build
changes to mantic and, for now, use it for building the mantic images.
We can switch to noble once noble works with the snap again.

[Test Case]

Run an image build on cdimage of ubuntu-core-desktop and see that the
image builds and boots into the installer.

[Regression Potential]

Since some code-paths needed to be changes, there is a very low risk of
other ubuntu-image based builds failing. So a re-check of all ubuntu-
image based images would be recommended.

[Bug 2058415] Re: Reading binary data in paraview broken by libexpat1 update

2024-04-23 Thread Peter Heywood
VTK has been patched upstream to correctly handle AppendedData elements
in .vtu files with the updated/patched libexpat1:

https://gitlab.kitware.com/vtk/vtk/-/commit/db8f9efca220c9d16a30958e179abae3379d0011

https://gitlab.kitware.com/vtk/vtk/-/issues/19258

This will need backporting to older VTK releases on ubuntu's where
libexpat1's fixes have been backported, which if I'm reading the ubuntu
package release dates correctly is Jammy(security, updates), Mantic
(security, updates) and potentially Noble (release).

[Bug 2060624] Re: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice

2024-04-23 Thread Mate Kukri
Reproduced again. I think the steps are, and they have to be repeated
from step 1 each time:

Start with clean disk:
1. Partition disk as MBR with two partitions, install lubuntu on sda1 _with_
format
2. Install lubuntu on sda2 _with_ format
3. Install lubuntu on sda1 _without_ format

I'll spend a bit more time later trying to figure out the exact root cause, but
this seems like a rather specific issue that shouldn't be a release blocker for
sure.

2024-04-23 Thread Danilo Egea Gondolfo
I can confirm this is an issue, although it's not caused by Network
Manager so I'll go ahead and set it as invalid.

After trying to do a "do-release-upgrade -d" from a brand new
installation of Jammy 22.04.4, gnome-shell crashed and interrupted the
upgrade.

After that, this is what "dpkg --list | grep systemd" looks like:

ii dbus-user-session 1.14.10-4ubuntu4
amd64simple interprocess messaging system (systemd --user
integration)
ii gnome-logs42.0-1
   amd64viewer for the systemd journal
ii libnss-systemd:amd64 249.11-0ubuntu3.12

ii libsystemd-shared:amd64 255.4-1ubuntu8
   amd64systemd shared private library
ii libsystemd0:amd64 255.4-1ubuntu8
   amd64systemd utility library
ii networkd-dispatcher 2.1-2ubuntu0.22.04.2
all Dispatcher service for systemd-networkd connection
status changes
ii python3-systemd 235-1build4

ii systemd 255.4-1ubuntu8
   amd64system and service manager
ii systemd-dev 255.4-1ubuntu8

ii systemd-hwe-hwdb 249.11.5
all udev rules for hardware enablement (HWE)
ii systemd-oomd 249.11-0ubuntu3.12

and /etc/resolv.conf is a broken link as systemd-resolved is not installed and

[Bug 2060624] Re: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice

2024-04-23 Thread Chris Guiver
Just an FYI... but on the two cases I've encountered this issue I didn't
install as per #14. I'll have always performed a

1. full disk install (any prior partitioning erased); noble (may not have been
lubuntu) but single partition only
2. install alongside (calamares wording; auto-resize type creating a second
install)

(ie. I did two install types & achieved same result as steps 1 & 2 as
Mate (mkukri) in comment #14)

At step 3 my usual thing is a 'replace partition' (calamares wording)
install using one of the partitions (this is a FORMAT install).. where
which partition I use is ~random (usually opting to keep the partition
I'll most recognize as untouched; the install where I changed the
wallpaper usually so easily recognized)..

Any testing of 'install using existing partition' for me would be 4th
(or 5th) install almost guaranteed I believe..

My point is it can be triggered in other ways I believe, but again very
few users will encounter it... I rarely encountered it!

(then again what I listed ^ is what I did today, do most days probably too..
maybe why I've not experienced it much as I suspect i re-use SDA2 most days (&
not sda1); ie. changing wallpaper on that first install (of the day) so its
recognized on the many installs that usually follow...)

I concur with view not a release blocker.

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a bug report so we are closing it. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs. If you would prefer live chat support, you
can find an IRC support channel for your flavor of Ubuntu here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/ChannelList. You can also find help with
your problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or

[Bug 2063204] Re: Desktop-Live ships /etc/netplan/01-network-manager-all.yaml in addition to /usr/lib/netplan/00-network-manager-all.yaml

2024-04-23 Thread Lukas Märdian
** Description changed:

  The /etc/netplan/01-network-manager-all.yaml, generated by livecd-rootfs,
shouldn't exist any more IIUC.
That functionality was moved into src:ubuntu-settings and shipped as
/usr/lib/netplan/00-network-manager-all.yaml

  This is according to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-
  settings/23.10.1

The duplicated "renderer: NetworkManager" doesn't cause any harm in the
  live-session, AFAICT.
+
+ The /etc/netplan/01-network-manager-all.yaml file is carried over into
+ the installed system (target).
+
+ After "apt install --reinstall ubuntu-settings" the file gets deleted.

[Bug 2061918] Re: package thunderbird 2:1snap1-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: new thunderbird package pre-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2024-04-23 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
I think release upgrader settings changed. To do deb2snap transitions
first before upgrade happens.

Because during upgrade, packages are inconsistent, and snap hooks must
be deffered until they are safe to execute on the system.

Note all other deb2snap transitions were always graceful and would
attempt transition later if snap configuration fails during upgrade.

See old LXD deb2snap .deb logic.

[Bug 2060624] Re: lubuntu/xubuntu reinstall (& install) on dual boot system, grub does appear & offer OS choice

2024-04-23 Thread Chris Guiver
(
another FYI I mentioned it's no longer re-creatable with Xubuntu due to
forced FORMAT currently with `ubuntu-desktop-installer` ...

the issue i'm referring to is/was https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-
desktop-provision/+bug/2058638 .. current 'fix' being to force format ,
but my understanding is that will be reverted once time is available to
correct the current 'regression' format triggers with 24.04 over 23.10 &
earlier)

This bug (2060624) thus can only be triggered (I believe) by the calamares
installer used Lubuntu, Kubuntu & Ubuntu.Unity; as ubuntu-desktop-installer is
forcing format (at least for now).

[Bug 2060300] Re: KMS overlay causes OOM oops on 3A+

2024-04-23 Thread Dave Jones
Have now also observed this on the Zero 2W with the current noble daily
server image. Interestingly, it *didn't* occur directly on the image at
first. This booted happily on the Zero 2W. However, this same card was
then used to test a 3A+. On the 3A+ I regenerated the initramfs (testing
a reported issue on low-memory boards), then moved the card back to the
Zero 2W and observed the same OOM issue on boot as the 3A+ does without
the CMA-128 workaround.

I also tried re-generating the initrd on the Zero 2W, but it still
booted happily after that without the workaround. This implies there's
something about the initrd, which is triggering the issue (sizing,
position in memory, I'm not sure?) but that the Zero 2W may
coincidentally run into the issue in normal operation.

Placing the CMA-128 workaround on the KMS overlay worked around the
issue, so I'll now add a [pi02] section in the config.txt applying the
same workaround for this board too.

2024-04-23 Thread Dave Jones
Ah, so the code in ubuntu-settings postinst is taking care of deleting
the file on existing systems (i.e. upgraders) but that doesn't matter
for the fresh image where livecd-rootfs is presumably injecting the file
after the package is installed as part of the image build.

I ... thought I had a branch dealing with that in livecd-rootfs, but I
can't find it now. Will prep another merge.
