[Bug 1976204] Re: system freeze and gnome-shell reports multiple stack trace

2022-06-01 Thread Andy Chi
If I remove gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons-ng, I can't reproduce
this issue. Also I can't reproduce this issue under x-session.

[Bug 1976464] [NEW] ruby-tty-screen: Autopkgtests fail on s390x

2022-06-01 Thread Simon Chopin
Public bug reported:

Imported from Debian bug http://bugs.debian.org/1012204:

Source: ruby-tty-screen
Version: 0.7.1-2
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: scho...@ubuntu.com

Hi,

The autopkgtests for this package fail on s390x, apparently due to an
endianness issue. See
https://ci.debian.net/data/autopkgtest/unstable/armhf/r/racket-mode/21881667/log.gz

There's a patch available upstream:

https://github.com/piotrmurach/tty-
screen/commit/dba351b178ae06b56985cc77a291918a0fc4aff4

I intend to post a Salsa MR to fix the issue.

[Bug 1976470] [NEW] Jammy update: v5.17.12 upstream stable release

2022-06-01 Thread Paolo Pisati
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

   v5.17.12 upstream stable release
   from git://git.kernel.org/

Linux 5.17.12

[Bug 1976473] [NEW] Unable to change screen brightness in ubuntu desktop

2022-06-01 Thread Akshay
Public bug reported:

I have Dell G15 5515 Ryzen edition. It has Nvidia 3050 graphics.

In /sys/class/backlight directory, there are two directories amdgpu_bl0
and nvidia_wmi_ec_backlight.

When I change the screen brightness via slider then it changes the
brightness value of nvidia_wmi_ec_backlight but it doesn't work. When I
manually changed the value of amdgpu_bl0 brightness file then my screen
brightness changed.

My BIOS is updated to the latest version and I have NVIDIA Driver with
version 510.73.05.

This was definitely not created by myself, but by the system

[Bug 1976473] Re: Unable to change screen brightness in ubuntu desktop

2022-06-01 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1976473

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

2022-06-01 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also ensure that you include the release and flavour of Ubuntu
that you are using.

Your title & package details match bionic/18.04 (ie. "chromium-browser |
101.0.4951.64-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 | bionic-security/universe | source,
amd64, arm64, armhf, i386") but your release is shown as focal/20.04.

Are you sure you wouldn't benefit from support? Bug reporting is mostly
about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future users from
hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

I've marked this bug report 'incomplete'; if you believe I'm in error,
please leave a comment saying why (or details as to your problem) and
the status can be returned to 'new'

Thank you!

[Bug 1976472] Re: Snapd User Session Agent Errormessage

2022-06-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1976472/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Work Around
Tested in Ubuntu 22.04 (5.15-33 generic)

Compile a driver for AX1675i from Intel's instructions

Step 1 – Download the Latest Git and Build-Essential packages

$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt-get install -y git
$ sudo apt-get install -y build-essential

Step 2 – Download the Iwlwifi-Firmware.git repository

$ git clone
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git
$ cd linux-firmware
$ sudo cp iwlwifi-* /lib/firmware/
$ cd ..

Step 3 – Create the Backported Iwlwifi Driver for your current setup

$ git clone
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/iwlwifi/backport-iwlwifi.git
$ cd backport-iwlwifi
$ sudo make defconfig-iwlwifi-public
$ sudo make -j4
$ sudo make install

This command might be necessary to force your machine to use the Driver from

[Bug 1964601] Re: I have no processor!

2022-06-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
On the disk issue, there are some related discussion on
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/633

but basically gnome-control-center currently ignore removable devices
because it shouldn't account for a connected usb stick or sdcard as
system capacity

one suggested heuristic tweak that could fix the raspi case is 'Use the
size of the disk with a partition mounted at / only if there are no non-
removable devices.'

[Bug 1976481] [NEW] ath9k driver takes 100% of CPU since update to 22.04

2022-06-01 Thread Tom Barbette
Public bug reported:

Hi all,

I recently updated my home server to Ubuntu 22.04, and since then my
WiFi access point (ath9k driver) fails after an hour or so.

I saw with htop that one of my CPU core is at 100% of the kernel.

With perf top I could find it's spending time in the ath9k driver, in
ioread32, see the attachment.

Looks like an infinite loop or so. It worked very well before the
upgrade.

Any idea?

Thanks,
Tom

Thank you for your bug report. In which software do you see the issue
and which language and input method do you use? Trying in gedit or

[Bug 1973733] Re: no change rebuild to get security update out on riscv64

2022-06-01 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Ah - is it that the same version is now built and published in Groovy
and we can't safely copy the binary backwards? => correct.

I didn't check if we can or cannot safely copy the binary backwards, but
imho we should not.

This is not going via focal-security, because the security issue has
already been fixed on all other arches, and riscv64 currently has best
effort security support. I don't want to trigger cups security upgrade
for $everyone, just because of the fix missing on riscv64 only.

[Bug 874181] Re: brltty daemon prevents creation of ttyUSB0 device link

2022-06-01 Thread Ali Devrim OĞUZ
This issue also effects electronics hobbyist as I couldn't upload any
code to my ESP32 controller because the port keeps disappearing. It is
that after I found the dmesg message about the brltty, I have realized
something was wrong. I was checking my hardware because of it. I breaks
my ESP32 uploader as well as my FTDI adapter that I use for uploading
codes to other circuits. The same issue occurs on connecting other tty
devices such as an xbee coordinator we use in our servers at our
company. I don't know how this could be fixed, but ubuntu 22.04 broke
everything by including this package by default. It wasn't happening in
20.04. Thanks for your help.

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected jammy wayland-session

** Description changed:

I have Dell G15 5515 Ryzen edition. It has Nvidia 3050 graphics.

In /sys/class/backlight directory, there are two directories amdgpu_bl0
  and nvidia_wmi_ec_backlight.

When I change the screen brightness via slider then it changes the
brightness value of nvidia_wmi_ec_backlight but it doesn't work. When I
manually changed the value of amdgpu_bl0 brightness file then my screen
  brightness changed.

- My BIOS is updated to the latest version and I have NVIDIA Driver with

[Bug 1965808] Re: [SRU] 2.55.5

2022-06-01 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Also, per our old old agreement regarding SRUs of snapd to stable
series, we wanted *every* distro-affecting change (packaging) to be
documented and accounted by explicit manual testing when verifying the
given release. Looking at the changelog, I see that there is a change to
systemd unit restarts (for xenial I guess?). Please document this and be
sure to have a manual verification that everything is restarted as
expected for all the series.

I think we need to start putting more 'quality' into the SRUs for snapd.
Can we get the bug updated re: 2.55.5? Since right now it's a generic
one for 2.55.

[Bug 1969602] Re: gnome-shell with "Focus on hover" behaves wrongly when alt-tabbing

2022-06-01 Thread Robin Sheat
Sorry, didn't see the reply with the upstream link. It seems different
to me, I haven't had any issues (that I've noticed) with invisible
windows.

I've attached a screen recording. In this, I have terminal in the
foreground and alt-tab to settings. Because the mouse is outside the
settings window (i.e., still over terminal), terminal gets pulled almost
immediately to the front again.

[Bug 1976488] [NEW] Move focal/linux-azure-fde to 5.15

2022-06-01 Thread Marcelo Cerri
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Use focal/linux-azure-5.15 as based for linux-azure-fde. The 5.15 linux-
azure kernel already contains all the changes needed by confidential
computing.

[Test Plan]

The resulting UEFI binary should be able to boot in a CVM instance.

[Where problems could occur]

Regressions in the upgrade process might happen. However this scenario
should be tested before promoting this kernel to focal-updates.

[Bug 1951586] Re: Need option to specify wifi regulatory domain

2022-06-01 Thread Dave Jones

>> houses, and only once worked when I travelled to Germany for a
>> sprint.

> not able to connect to some access point?

Personally, I've never encountered issues with WiFi on a Pi. However,
firstly it's worth noting the vast majority of pis around my house are
connected via ethernet and, secondly that my broadband connection
typically hovers around 60-80Mbps, so the 54Mbps max bandwidth of
802.11g is "fast enough" that anything more wouldn't be noticed
anyway.

Notably, this also means I *don't* use bonded 5GHz channels in my home
setup. The reason I mention this is that, over the last few years
there's been a slow (but steady) drum-beat of complaints about WiFi on
the Pi when using Ubuntu [1][2][3][4] (some of those are comments from
the same bug, but it seems to be one that people land on when googling
this for Ubuntu).

The complaint usually isn't "I can't connect to my AP anymore". It's
usually "my WiFi connection is slow" (which is obviously a much harder
problem to debug and address) but this does appear to be a problem
specific to the Pi.

Mostly though, this comes up on IRC, and it's a safe bet that the
person involved has a 5GHz setup, sometimes with bonded channels.
Obviously bonded channel setups require more (typically adjacent)
channels and this makes them particularly susceptible to poor
performance when the region code hasn't been set (and the channels, or
channel mitigations are limited). With pure 5GHz APs (no 2.4GHz
channels at all) we've also had reports of no connectivity.

One other (anecdotal) observation is that despite RaspiOS having a
considerably larger installed base of Ubuntu on the Pi, WiFi issues
rarely crop up there. Notably, RaspiOS prompts for a wifi regulatory
region in its first time setup. There are several other differences,
but under the covers we're using the same firmware, and wpa-supplicant
is ultimately in charge of the WiFi connection on both OS'.

Given 5GHz setups are only likely to become more common in future
(802.11ac, which the Pi 3+ and 4 are compatible with, is notably 5GHz
only [5]) my suspicion is this will only become more important in the
coming years.

[Bug 1912935] Re: battery drain while notebook off / shutdown

2022-06-01 Thread Ayush Kumar
I have hp pavillion au624tx and facing the face issue, which is very
annoying. It consumes 3% of my battery each hour !!

I think, it is something related to power-profiles-daemon, is it
possible to switch cpu frequency to balance mode while it is shutting
down ?

[Bug 1974109] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2022-06-01 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From boris.m...@de.ibm.com 2022-06-01 06:56 EDT---
@Frank: The problem could not be analyzed in detail yet and we do not have an
ETA for a fix. Therefore, it doesn't make sense to wait for this to be included
in your upcoming s390-tools "bundle" update.
