[Bug 1969598] Re: no auto-focus application after workspace switch

2022-05-16 Thread Joolz
@daniel thanks for the tip!

Disabling seems to solve the focus issue, but now there's no more
desktop icons (duh :) )

Personally I use the desktop icons all the time, anything that needs
immediate attention goes to the desktop, disabling that would (for me)
not be a workaround, but a choice between two evils.

If 'Desktop Icons NG' is the root of the issue, maybe the ticket should
be filed there?

[Bug 1973474] Re: Rename "Dock" to "Dash" in Appearance

2022-05-16 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks Gunnar. The reason the string was picked is to be able to reuse
the translations from gnome-shell, which made sense at this point of the
cycle, but is it really the best string to use for Ubuntu? Upstream
doesn't have a dock but we do, perhaps we should use 'pin to dock' for
our shell? Probably a question to ask to design

[Bug 1871148] Re: services start before apparmor profiles are loaded

2022-05-16 Thread Maciej Borzecki
@eurbah hi, also for the service in question, can you attach the output
of `systemctl list-dependencies --after snap..service`

AFAICT, all services are to be started after snapd.apparmor.d, which in
turn is started after apparmor.service, which should ensure that
apparmor profiles are loaded before service startup is attempted.

[Bug 1784774] Re: snapd is not autofs aware and fails with nfs home dir

2022-05-16 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Thanks Erik and Andrew for the logs!

It looks like we have more than one bug here:

1) Andrew's logs show that after restarting the snapd service, NFS was
correctly detected and there are no more AppArmor denials on that. But
on Erik's machine, for some reason, that did not happen.

2) Even if the network rules are added, snaps still fail to start; I
believe that the root cause is the same as in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1973321 (despite the fact that that bug
is about sshfs)

I will continue investigating the first issue here. Whereas, for the
second one, Andrew, can you please check if snaps start once you "cd" to
another directory, like "/snap"?

Then somehow in between 21.10 and 22.04 there was a change in the
behaviour of Desktop Icons NG, as in: when is grabbing focus
appropriate.

If the new behaviour is preferred by the author, it would be nice for
the end-user to have the option to toggle between the old and the new
behaviour.

So it is not about the "huge amounts of time" which ubuntu.seed wants
to avoid.
Are those times stable or do they vary by minutes ?

We know that the firmware executes GRUB without much delay.
I am pondering how we could find out when GRUB hands over execution
to vmlinuz. Any ideas anybody ?

Have a nice day :)

[Bug 1967121] Re: Dock auto-hides when a right click context menu is opened while a window is under the dock

2022-05-16 Thread Felix T
Apologies for the bad description. I'm talking about a situation with
multiple open windows of the same application. When I left click the
application to show the window previews, the same behavior as described
in this ticket occurs on about half the attempts to select a window. I
attached a screen recording.

More context: The recording was made with a multi monitor setup. In a
single monitor setup, I cannot reproduce this behavior on the same
machine right now.

Thanks Ted. Do you maybe has a small testcase that can be used there? It
feels like we should figure out why the change isn't working for
inkscape before uploading a SRU

[Bug 1973382] Re: autopkgtests failures due to debhelper 13.6 changes

2022-05-16 Thread Dave Jones
Hi Athos -- this is an interesting one.

Forgive my ignorance, but per Colin's comments in
https://salsa.debian.org/pkg-debconf/debconf/-/merge_requests/10 "...
dpkg-reconfigure is simulating the process of reinstalling a package
without actually unpacking its files again" (which aligned with my
understanding of dpkg-reconfigure). Surely if it's "simulating [...]
reinstalling a package", then:

> dpkg-reconfigure --frontend=noninteractive postgresql-common

should:

> [result] in a call to
>
> deb-systemd-invoke stop 'postgresql.service',

After all, if it's simulating a reinstallation, shouldn't it restart the
service? Surely the error is the test suite assuming that it shouldn't?
You are certainly correct that:

> A possible solution to the issue would be to introduce the "-r" (or
> --no-stop-on-upgrade) option to dh_installsystemd in Ubuntu's
> postgresql-common d/rules. This should be enough to keep the
> expected (old) behavior in the package maintainer scripts.

(aside: I'd beg people to use the long option and never touch "-r" or
"-R" given we wound up having to grep thru maintscripts to find
instances of --no-{restart,stop}-{on,after}-upgrade when fixing the
debhelper issue -- not to mention they're just more readable)

Still, it seems to me that the assumption that dpkg-reconfigure *won't*
restart postgres is incorrect? Then again, if it's already commonly
expected behaviour, maintaining it may well be the wisest course. It
would mean that upgrades won't restart the service which may not be
desirable, although needsrestart may provide a fallback there?

Interested to hear any thoughts you may have on this -- in tinkering
with debhelper and dpkg-reconfigure, I'm painfully aware I'm messing
with widely used stuff with a long history of assumed quirks!

[Bug 1965260] Re: FFE: Detect RAM size automatically

2022-05-16 Thread Alexandre Ghiti
** Description changed:

  https://github.com/smaeul/sun20i_d1_spl/commits/d1-2022-01-22, commit
  525883d3721f4c4d78b498e780b44e85d0676abf contains patches to detect the
  RAM size automatically.
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ If the memory is not discovered automatically, the Nezha can't boot
+ without an additional memory node in the device tree: the issue is that
+ the Nezha boards comes now with 2 different amounts of memory, 1GB or
+ 2GB. So the additional device tree node can't cover both boards.
+
+ It is essential to backport this fix to Jammy as we intend to provide
+ first support for the Nezha board in 22.04.1.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ To test the fix is correct, one can simply use this nezha-boot0 and
+ check that the next stage bootloader (u-boot-nezha) advertises the right
+ amount of memory for the board, which is displayed at boot right after
+ the banner:
+
+ U-Boot 2022.04 (Apr 21 2022 - 09:19:39 +)
+
+ DRAM:  1 GiB
+ sunxi_set_gate: (CLK#24) unhandled
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ The update will not introduce regressions as this package is *not* used
+ since we did not deliver images for the Nezha board yet, support for
+ this board is an additional feature scheduled for 22.04.1.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ Note that this only fixes the memory detection from boot0 to u-boot,
+ another similar patch is needed for u-boot-nezha to patch the kernel
+ device tree.

Looks like a difference of 11ms, so less than one frame.

This is most likely to be a buggy app (or toolkit) as the message
suggests. Please try to identify what the offending app is. For example
if the window ID is still 0xae then:

[Bug 1969817] Re: Uncaught exception when connector is cancelled

2022-05-16 Thread Olivier Gayot
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   * When cancelling a connector task, the associated resolver task (if
  not finished) is not cancelled and continues running.

  Unfortunately, if the resolver task eventually raises an exception
  (e.g., socket.gaierror), the exception will go directly to the exception
  handler because none will be awaiting the task anymore.

  This results in applications crashing with exceptions such as:

  Task exception was never retrieved
  future:
exception=gaierror(-2, 'Name or service not known')>
  Traceback (most recent call last):

   * This aiohttp bug is the root cause of a crash in Subiquity:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-power-systems/+bug/1969393
  Currently, we build the Subiquity snap based on deb packages (including
python3-aiohttp) from focal. We temporarily moved from python3-aiohttp to
python3-requests in Subiquity to work around this crash.
   * Other applications based on python3-aiohttp can be affected and crash
despite the absence of other bug reports.

   * The patch in the debdiff makes sure that resolver tasks end up being
  awaited when the associated connector tasks gets cancelled.

  [Test Plan]

-  * The following chunk of code can be executed to reproduce the issue:
- https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/XrnfqVHtBh/ (it takes ~60 seconds to
- execute).
+  * The following chunk of code can be executed to reproduce the issue:
https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/XrnfqVHtBh/ (it takes ~60 seconds to execute).
+ * The bug is way easier to reproduce is there is some delay in the DNS
resolution. One way to simulate some delay is to use a non-local DNS server and
run:
+
+ # tc qdisc add dev eth0 root netem delay 200m
+
+ where eth0 is the name of the interface used for DNS resolutions.
+ This can be reverted using:
+ # tc qdisc del dev eth0 root netem

  * On python3-aiohttp 3.6 (focal), the exception handler wakes up
  with:

  Task exception was never retrieved
  future:
exception=gaierror(-2, 'Name or service not known')>

  * When aiohttp is patched, nothing should happen.

   * Manually testing the patched library against Subiquity to make sure it
solves https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-power-systems/+bug/1969393.
  This was done on my end using this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~ogayot/+archive/ubuntu/focal-bugfix . Tests were green.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * Since the patch affects a python library, any application that
  depends on this library (aka. python3-aiohttp) on focal would be
  affected by the upload.

   * In the unlikely event that this patch introduces a regression,
  applications that depend on python3-aiohttp (i.e., in focal/universe)
  can crash or raise exceptions.

   * If any package in focal/main has python3-aiohttp as a Build-Depends,
  a regression could cause said package to FTBFS.

  [Other Info]

   * The debdiff brings a backport of an upstream patch that is present in
  aiohttp 3.7 and newer versions:

  https://github.com/aio-libs/aiohttp/pull/5050

   * Upstream bug report: https://github.com/aio-libs/aiohttp/issues/4330

Great! I'm just a regular user, but I think if you got it to work you
don't need to install 22.04. Even if you do, you'll probably need these
options in grub anyway. I am currently on 22.04 and I have to use
"i915.enable_dc=0".

[Bug 1973594] [NEW] [BPO] libreoffice 7.2.7 for focal

2022-05-16 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * LibreOffice 7.2.6 is in its seventh (and last) bugfix release of the 7.2
line:
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/7.2#7.2.7_release

 * This source packages matches the proposed SRU for impish handled at
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/impish/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1972155
   and its backport is currently provided by the LibreOffice Still PPA at

https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-still/+packages

 * Previous backport of 7.2.6 handled at
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1969808

 * LibreOffice 6.4.7 (EOL since November 30, 2020) is currently released
in focal.

 * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

[Scope]

 * Backport of
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/1:7.2.7-0ubuntu0.21.10.1

 * Backport target is Focal/20.04 LTS only to provide an official build
of a more recent upstream version of LibreOffice

[Testing]

 * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

  * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_72/1617/

  * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:
* Automated tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Automated_Tests
* Automated UI tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/UITests
* Regression tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
* Feature tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

 * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.
* [amd64] ...
* [arm64] ...
* [armhf] ...
* [ppc64el] ...
* [s390x] ...

 * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite
were carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

[Regression Potential]

 * A minor release with a total of 44+ bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
features were removed.

 * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as described
above should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked
in.

With the new combination, bedtools testsuite is green and zlib passes all of my
