[Bug 1972962] [NEW] Rsync, nfs? unable to handle kernel paging request at

2022-05-11 Thread Alex
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Ubuntu 18.04.6 LTS 4.15.0-176-generic #185-Ubuntu SMP
nfs-kernel-server 1:1.3.4-2.1ubuntu5.5
rsync 3.1.2-2.1ubuntu1.4
cryptsetup 2:2.0.2-1ubuntu1.2

An Ubuntu server runs a rsync daemon which writes to a mounted luks
image, and an NFS server which exports this image. A rsync client from a
remote server connects to the daemon and tries to rsync. Everything was
Ok until recently.

After the system's recent update (not upgrade) the system started to
throw a bug:

BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 966dc4c51750
IP: jbd2_journal_grab_journal_head+0x9/0x40

BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 966dc4fad778
IP: ext4_finish_bio+0x109/0x230

The bug happens when the rsync client connects to the daemon and tries to rsync.

The BUG output from dmesg is attached.

it's not recommended to stay with an old kernel, especially 5.11 kernel
has already reaches its end-of-life in Jan. 2022

Please give 5.13 hwe kernel a try, a `sudo apt dist-upgrade` should

You are right, this is actually affecting other applications, too. I get
the exact same behavior described in the steps to reproduce when using
Chromium installed via snap: Local files open fine, opening files on
network shares does not trigger any reaction.

Should this issue here remain open?

[Bug 1970989]

2022-05-11 Thread Jérôme Bouat
Below is the test I performed in a Qemu virtual environment.
Host : a Debian host.
Guest : Debian bookworm x86_64, LXQT, deinstalled preload and firefox-esr for
light desktop.

On the guest I installed 2 flavours of the same 100.0 version of Firefox on :
- the snap : 100.0-2 (snap revision 1300) with the other required snaps
(gnome-3-38-2004 0+git.1f9014a rev 99, gtk-common-themes 0.1-59-g7bca6ae rev
1519, core20 20220329 rev 1434)
- the deb package by hand from sid repository : 100.0-1.

Before starting the test, I started for the first time each flavour and
I made the new page empty (no web search, no shortcut or recent
activity).

I performed the below sequence with each flavour :
0. The host is up to date from the day (snap refresh, apt update), no
background task expected, no other application on host and guest desktops.
1. I start AQemu.
2. I launch the virtual machine with Debian bookworm.
3. I login into the guest desktop environment.
4. I wait for roughly 60 s (stopwatch in hand).
5. I launch Firefox by the desktop menu entry and measure the start-up duration
until the window appears.
6. I close Firefox and wait roughly 30s (stopwatch in hand).
7. I launch Firefox again and measure.
8. I close Firefox and wait roughly 30s (stopwatch in hand).
9. I launch Firefox again and measure.

In the case of the deb package application :
5. gives 2.5 s
7. gives 1.7 s
9. gives 1,6 s

In the case of the snap package application :
5. gives 5.9 s
7. gives 4.1 s
9. gives 4.3 s

[Bug 1969212] Re: libssl1.x dependencies can't be met on 22.04 beta

2022-05-11 Thread Simon Chopin
Hi,

The libssl1.1 package was provided by the 1.1.1 branch of OpenSSL, which
is obsolete and will cease to receive security support from upstream in
2023. We chose to migrate the archive to the new 3.0 version. See this
ML thread for more details: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-
devel/2021-October/041639.html

You probably should contact your vendor for them to fix their package.

Marking as Won't Fix.

[Bug 1971561] Re: Colorful rectangles are added incorrectly by breeze-gtk theme

2022-05-11 Thread Thomas Stieler
Unfortuately it's not only the gtk-breeze theme that breaks Gimp's UI,
the problems also appears with Adwaita theme, but much less prominent.

So maybe gtk-breeze triggers the issue more intensivly, but the issue
seems to be more general and GTK related, because in the meantime I
noticed, that other GTK programs are also slightly effected.

[Bug 1947127] Re: [SRU] Some DNS extensions not working with OVN

2022-05-11 Thread Hua Zhang
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

On a fresh devstack install with the q-dns service enable from the
neutron devstack plugin, some features still don't work, e.g.:

  $ openstack subnet set private-subnet --dns-publish-fixed-ip
BadRequestException: 400: Client Error for url:
https://10.250.8.102:9696/v2.0/subnets/9f50c79e-6396-4c5b-be92-f64aa0f25beb,
Unrecognized attribute(s) 'dns_publish_fixed_ip'

  $ openstack port create p1 --network private --dns-name p1 --dns-domain a.b.
BadRequestException: 400: Client Error for url:
https://10.250.8.102:9696/v2.0/ports, Unrecognized attribute(s) 'dns_domain'

The reason seems to be that

https://review.opendev.org/c/openstack/neutron/+/686343/31/neutron/common/ovn/extensions.py
only added dns_domain_keywords, but not e.g. dns_domain_ports as
  supported by OVN

  [Test Case]

Create a normal OpenStack neutron test environment to see if we can
  successfully run the following commands:

  openstack subnet set private_subnet --dns-publish-fixed-ip
  openstack port create p1 --network private --dns-name p1 --dns-domain a.b.

  [Regression Potential]

The fix has merged into the upstream stable/xena branch [1], here's just
- SRU into the 19.1.0 branch of UCA xena, so it is a clean backport and
- might be helpful for deployments migrating to OVN.
+ SRU into the 19.1.0 branch of UCA xena (the fix is already in 20.0.0 so
+ it's already in jammy and kinetic and focal-yoga), so it is a clean
+ backport and might be helpful for deployments migrating to OVN.

[Bug 1962541] Re: PEAP wifi can't connect (ubuntu live/installer is also not working

2022-05-11 Thread Chinmay Khandekar
Hello,
I can confirm the proposed package is fixing the authentication in our
enterprise network where MSCHAPv2 + PEAP + No CA Cert is used as authentication.

We tested it by upgrading from wpa_supplicant 2.9 to 2:2.10-6ubuntu1

Thank you.

[Bug 1958267] Re: "Connection failed" for WPA Enterprise network (e.g. eduroam)

2022-05-11 Thread Chinmay Khandekar
Hello,
I can confirm the https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpa/+bug/1962541
proposed package is fixing legacy renegotiation issue in WPA Enterprise where
MSCHAPv2 + PEAP are used in authentication.

This issue is duplicate for WPA 802.1x failure can be linked to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wpa/+bug/1962541

I do not get any window for password entering on eduroam network and
authentication goes smooth without any manual intervention or custom
changes such as Comment 22.

[Bug 1971712] Re: Add support for Intel DG2

2022-05-11 Thread Timo Aaltonen
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Ubuntu 22.04 does not support Intel DG2-based hw which is released later
  this year.
-

  [Fix]

Mesa: needs a bunch of patches backported to 22.0.x, will be upstream in 22.1
or 22.2
kernel: use a dkms provided by Intel and integrated in the OEM kernel source,
the module will be shipped in a separate modules package

-
  [Test case]

Boot a system with a DG2-based GPU, check that native graphics drivers
- are used
+ are used.

+ Test mesa also on gen9-gen12 GPU's to verify that there are no
+ regressions even though the backports are for DG2.

  [What could go wrong]

The Mesa patches are only for DG2 support, should not affect other
hardware at all. The kernel driver is in a separate package which isn't
installed by default except preinstall machines with this hardware. So
  other users are not affected.

[Bug 1968681] Re: rdpru in ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests failed on B-4.15 node riccioli with FAIL: RDPRU raises #UD

+ [Impact]
+ rdpru test in ubuntu_kvm_unit_tests is to check if the RDPRU instruction can
be intercepted by the Hypervisor.
+
+ RDPRU is one of the new instruction set extensions of AMD "Zen 2" CPUs
+ that is for reading a processor register that is typically limited to
+ privilege level zero. RDPRU allows for reading select registers at any
+ privilege level. With Linux 5.5, the RDPRU presence will be advertised
+ by the CPU features.
+
+ Without this patchset, the rdpru test will fail on our AMD Zen 2 system

+ [Fix]
+ * 9d40b85b x86/cpufeatures: Add feature bit RDPRU on AMD
+ * 0cb8410b kvm: svm: Intercept RDPRU
+
+ We have these patches in newer releases already, only Bionic 4.15
+ require this fix. And they can be cherry-picked without any conflict.
+

2022-05-11 Thread Sebastien Bacher
I've added a testplan to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/GnomeTextEditor now

** Description changed:

  [Availability]
The package gnome-text-editor is already in Ubuntu universe.
The package gnome-text-editor build for the architectures it is designed to
work on.
It currently builds and works for architetcures: amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el
riscv64 s390x
  Link to package https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-text-editor

  [Rationale]
  - The package gnome-text-editor is required in Ubuntu main to replace gedit
as the default desktop text editor
  - Package gnome-text-editor covers the same use case as gedit, but is better
- because it is the new default editor in GNOME and it is actively
maintained, thereby we want to replace it.
+   because it is the new default editor in GNOME and it is actively
maintained, thereby we want to replace it.

  - The package gnome-text-editor is required in Ubuntu main no later than aug
25
- due to kinetic feature freeze
+   due to kinetic feature freeze

  [Security]
  - No CVEs/security issues in this software in the past

  - no `suid` or `sgid` binaries
  - no executables in `/sbin` and `/usr/sbin`
  - Package does not install services, timers or recurring jobs
  - Packages does not open privileged ports (ports < 1024)
  - Packages does not contain extensions to security-sensitive software

  [Quality assurance - function/usage]
  - The package works well right after install

  [Quality assurance - maintenance]
  - The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu and has current no open
report
- - Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-text-editor/+bug
- - Debian https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=gnome-text-editor
+   - Ubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-text-editor/+bug
+   - Debian https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=gnome-text-editor
  - The package does not deal with exotic hardware we cannot support

  [Quality assurance - testing]
  - The package runs a test suite on build time, if it fails
- it makes the build fail, link to build log
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/598874210/buildlog_ubuntu-kinetic-amd64.gnome-text-editor_42.1-1_BUILDING.txt.gz
+   it makes the build fail, link to build log
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/598874210/buildlog_ubuntu-kinetic-amd64.gnome-text-editor_42.1-1_BUILDING.txt.gz

  - The package does not run an autopkgtest because desktop softwares
aren't easy to test in autopkgtest. THe situation isn't a regression
compared to gedit which we want ro replace. While it would be nice to
get some sort of autopkgtest in place we don't think that should be a
  blocker to replace gedit.

+ We created a manual testplan to be used to verify updates until we
+ figure out a better automated testing story,
+ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/TestPlans/GnomeTextEditor
+
  [Quality assurance - packaging]
  - debian/watch is present, it's currently not working due to GNOME
infrastructure changes but that's going to be resolved.

  - there are only a few minor lintian warnings

- # lintian --pedantic
+ # lintian --pedantic
  W: gnome-text-editor: no-manual-page usr/bin/gnome-text-editor
  W: gnome-text-editor source: no-nmu-in-changelog
  W: gnome-text-editor source: source-nmu-has-incorrect-version-number 42.1-1
  P: gnome-text-editor source: silent-on-rules-requiring-root

  - Lintian overrides are not present

  - This package does not rely on obsolete or about to be demoted packages.
  - This package has no python2 or GTK2 dependencies

  - The package will be installed by default, but does not ask debconf
  questions

  - Packaging and build is easy, link to d/rules
  https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-text-
  editor/-/blob/debian/master/debian/rules

  [UI standards]
  - Application is end-user facing, Translation is present, via standard gettext
  - End-user applications that ships a standard conformant desktop file,

  [Dependencies]

  - No further depends or recommends dependencies that are not yet in main
expect gtksourceview-5 which is a newer serie of a package already in
main which we plan to transition to.

  [Standards compliance]
  - This package correctly follows FHS and Debian Policy

  [Maintenance/Owner]
  - Owning Team will be desktop-packages
  - Team is not yet, but will subscribe to the package before promotion

  - This does not use static builds
  - This does not use vendored code

  - The package has been built in the archive more recently than the last
- test rebuild
+   test rebuild

  [Background information]
The Package description explains the package well

[Bug 1972899] [NEW] [Regression] Real-time Kernel Build Failure

2022-05-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

[SRU Justification]
A new commit in the Jammy 5.15.0-29.30 kernel is causing a build failure for
the real-time kernel.

After a bisect, I found this commit is causing the real-time kernel build
failure:
dc66c1b8a2be1 ("x86/pkru: Remove useless include")

Commit dc66c1b8a2be1 was added in 5.16-rc1 and not cc'd to stable. It
was picked into Jammy to enable AMX support. See bug 1967750.

The following commit resolves this regression by fixing up the includes:
35fa745286ac4 ("x86/mm: Include spinlock_t definition in pgtable")

Commit 35fa745286ac4 was merged into mainline 5.17-rc1.

[Fix]
35fa745286ac4 ("x86/mm: Include spinlock_t definition in pgtable")

[Test case]
Kernel builds are now working after picking this commit.

[Regression potential]
Low. The new commit is just including a header file.

[Bug 1972982] [NEW] raspi-config is looking at the wrong directory

2022-05-11 Thread Dave Jones
Public bug reported:

raspi-config is currently looking at /boot which is where the boot
partition is mounted on RaspiOS ... not Ubuntu (where it's
/boot/firmware). Which effectively means it's looking at a blank
config.txt (because it won't find any) and is writing any changes to
/boot/config.txt where they won't work.

Will attach a patch shortly (and see if there's anything to merge from
RaspiOS while I'm at it).

[Bug 1968154] Re: Only keep 2 kernels

2022-05-11 Thread Julian Andres Klode
** No longer affects: unattended-upgrades (Ubuntu Impish)

** No longer affects: unattended-upgrades (Ubuntu Focal)

** No longer affects: unattended-upgrades (Ubuntu Bionic)

** No longer affects: unattended-upgrades (Ubuntu)

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
APT currently keeps 3 kernels or even 4 in some releases. Our boot partition
is sized for a steady state of 2 kernels + 1 new one being unpacked, hence
users run out of space and new kernels fail to install, upgrade runs might
abort in the middle. It's not nice.

  [Test plan]
  1. Have two kernels installed (let's call them version 3, 2)
  2. Check that both kernels are not autoremovable
  3. Install an old kernel (let's call it 1), and mark it automatic
  4. Check that 1 will be autoremovable (apt autoremove -s)
  5. Reboot into 1, check that 2 is autoremovable (apt autoremove -s)
  6. Actually remove 2
  7. Reboot into 3 and check that both 1 and 3 are now not autoremovable
-
- unattended-upgrades may need changes to its test suite to accommodate
- this.

  [Where problems could occur]
We could keep the wrong kernels installed that the user did not expect.

We remove the requirement to keep the most recently installed version,
previously recorded in APT::LastInstalledKernel, to achieve this, as we
had 3 hard requirements so far:

  1. keep booted kernel
  2. keep highest version
  3. keep most recently installed

1 can't be removed as it would break running systems, 2 is what you
  definitely want to keep.

During normal system lifetime, the most recently installed kernel is the
same as the highest version, so 2==3, and there are no changes to
  behavior.

Likewise, if you most recently installed an older kernel manually for
debugging, it would be manually installed and not subject to removal,
even if the rule is dropped.

The behavior really only changes if you install an older kernel, and
then mark it auto - that older kernel becomes automatically removable
immediately after it is marked as auto.

[Bug 1972795] Re: libnet-ssleay-perl: Autopkgtest failures on OpenSSL 3.0.* patch releases

2022-05-11 Thread Simon Chopin
Attached is a debdiff for this change, as reviewed by the Debian
maintainer. As indicated on the bug there, this will not be uploaded to
Debian until their 3.0 transition starts, hence the need to introduce a
delta in Ubuntu.

You can find a built version of the package in my PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~schopin/+archive/ubuntu/test-ppa/+sourcepub/13609898/+listing-archive-extra

(just pop the bogus changelog entry)

[Bug 1972983] [NEW] File dialog in snap firefox does not have keyboard focus

2022-05-11 Thread vanadium
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce the issue.

After first log in into Ubuntu Desktop 22.04

1. Launch Firefox and open a website (e.g. www.ubuntu.com)
2. Hit Ctrl+S to open the Save file dialog.
3. Type "Ubuntu" to replace the default file name ("Enterprise Open Source and
Linux | Ubuntu.html"). Hit Enter. It works the first time round.
4. Hit Ctrl+S to open the Save file dialog again.
5. Type "Ubuntu - 2" to replace the default file name ("Enterprise Open Source
and Linux | Ubuntu.html"). This time, your typing fails: the file dialog is not
in focus.

Expected behavior anytime when opening a File dialog: the file dialog
should have keyboard focus.

Observed behavior: the file dialog does not have focus, except the very
first time in the session.

Same observations also for File Open dialogs.

[Bug 1972984] [NEW] Cannot paste filename into File Save dialog of Firefox Snap

2022-05-11 Thread vanadium
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce the problem:

1. Copy a file name or a file path to the clipboard
2. Open Firefox
3. Hit Ctrl+S to open the File Save dialog.
4. Make sure that the "Name" field has focus (which it may not because of
another bug) and attempt to paste: Ctrl+V

Expected behavior: the contents of the clipboard is entered into the "Name"
field.
Observed behaviour: a dialog box appears with error message:

"
The folder contents could not be displayed
Operation not supported
"
In the same spirit, editing an existing name by e.g. copying/cutting part of
the name/path and pasting it back elsewhere in the field does not work.

[Bug 1884299] Re: Chromium snap won't run with nfs home drive

2022-05-11 Thread Alberto Mardegan
A similar issue was discussed in the forums:

https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/cannot-open-path-of-the-current-working-
directory-permission-denied-bis/28704

If the system is using autofs and snapd is started before any NFS home
directory is mounted, snapd will fail to detect the fact that the system
is using autofs (or NFS), and will not grant snap-confine those
permissions needed to use the network.

[Bug 1662552] Re: snaps don't work with NFS home

2022-05-11 Thread Alberto Mardegan
We did some progress in investigating this, and it appears that a
problem still exists: if the system is using autofs and snapd is started
before any NFS home directory is mounted, snapd will fail to detect the
fact that the system is using autofs (or NFS), and will not grant snap-
confine those permissions needed to use the network.

Given that this bug is old and that indeed a (partial) fix landed, I
suggest to keep it closed; I noticed that someone else filed a new bug
which explicitly mentions the autofs case, so I suggest continuing the
discussion there:

[Bug 1967721] Re: Laptop never resuming from standby

2022-05-11 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
We were trying to debug this issues with sparkiegeek too, and we have
had inconclusive test results. Where the same kernel with/without power
attached behaved differently and did/didn't come back from suspend.

When testing v5.13 kernel on jammy, could you please confirm that
suspend/resume works in both cases
1) power attached and charging
2) power not attached

Similarly, when trying to build v5.13/v5.14 kernels with a more recent
jammy kernel config we seemed to have been hitting suspend/resume
failure more often. So I am hoping that we can figure out the kernel
config differences that is causing this behavior regression.

It always helps to use fwupdate manager to install all available
firmware upgrades. In general, these are likely to have multiple
security vulnerability and stability fixes.

[Bug 1958770] Re: Aquantia GbE LAN driver causes UBSAN error during kernel boot

2022-05-11 Thread populationless
I have successfully modified two of the mentioned three functions and
tested the module, so far UBSAN does not complain anymore :)

Unfdortunately I can't rewrite the third function, since it does not
match the pattern (and I have no idea what I'm doing)

for (tc = 0U; tc < self->aq_nic_cfg.tcs; tc++) {
for (i = 0U, aq_vec = self->aq_vec[0];
aq_vec && self->aq_vecs > i;
++i, aq_vec = self->aq_vec[i]) {
data += count;
count = aq_vec_get_sw_stats(aq_vec, tc, data);
}
}

I have included a diff for the other two functions.
