[Bug 1954970] Re: remmina "Cannot connect to the RDP server ... via TLS. Check that the client and server support a common TLS version"

2022-04-27 Thread msaxl
again: a debug log output would be very useful.
With a gateway there are actually two TLS handshakes. It would be useful what
handshake fails.

What version of RD Gateway are you using? If it is a 2008/2008R2 based
one, is that even openssl3 compatible? (I checked that TLS1.0 is enabled
on the https tls handshake, but I don't know if a required cipher match
is there since I don't have a such old server available)

[Bug 1970552] [NEW] Mute/mic LEDs no function on EliteBook G9 platfroms

2022-04-27 Thread Andy Chi
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
The mic mute/audio mute LEDS are not work on
1) HP EliteBook x360 830 G9
2) HP EliteBook 830 G9
3) HP EliteBook 840 G9
4) HP EliteBook 860 G9
5) HP EliteBook 840 Aero G9
6) HP EliteBook x360 840 Aero G9

[Fix]
It needs the specific quirk for the hardware layout.
Thus, add the quirks to make it works.

[Test]
After applying the quirk, the audio/mic mute LEDs are working good.

[Where problems could occur]
If HP ships the different system boards design with the same subsystem ID of
audio codec which is using different GPIO pins (different layout), then the
quirk will not work (LEDs will not work when muting audio-output or microphone).

[Bug 1970555] [NEW] linux-tools-5.15.0-27-lowlatency clashes with linux-tools-5.15.0-27

2022-04-27 Thread arturo
Public bug reported:

After updating to ubuntu 22.04 I'm getting an error on linux-
tools-5.15.0-27-lowlatency trying to install
/usr/lib/libcpupower.so.5.15.0-27 which is already installed by linux-
tools-5.15.0-27.

The generic version of the package linux-tools-5.15.0-27-generic,
doesn't have that file and installs without problem but the lowlatency
version seems to erroneously pack that file which leads to a clash with
linux-tools-5.15.0-27.

This happens when a low latency kernel is installed without trying to
install anything else, just by updating the system.

The specific versions of the packages are:

linux-tools-5.15.0-27-lowlatency: 5.15.0-27.28
linux-tools-5.15.0-27:5.15.0-27.28

The generic version which works without problem is the same:

Same here -
Nvidia 3060 Ti on AMD X570 platform
Panasonic 4K TV via HDMI cable.

While welcome screen is fine - the one with "Install" or "try ubuntu",
then the screen blink for a while then return with fluo-green-yellow
colorset. It is hard to read anything.

Re-inserting HDMI cable to force reset the link has no effect.

2022-04-27 Thread John Collins
I noticed the journal had lots of references to
/home/jmc/Pictures/2020/03/p16/20200316_064312.jpg which had permissions
turned off it was downloaded from my phone as you can see it was over 2
years ago, don't know why it was referenced at all or why the
permissions were set to rw-r- it isn't the photo I've (tried to) set
as background.

I've reset the permissions on that file to make them world-readable
anyhow but that hasn't changed anything that I can see.

[Bug 1970559] [NEW] MacBook Air Mid-2013 not booting with iommu enabled

2022-04-27 Thread Matthew Stapleton
Public bug reported:

I have a MacBook Air Mid-2013 which doesn't boot with iommu enabled due
to the onboard SATA not working with it, and I see that with KUbuntu
22.04, the new 5.15 kernels have Intel IOMMU enabled by default. So at
the moment I need to add kernel option: intel_iommu=off . The MacBook
was working with default boot options with KUbuntu 22.10 and kernel:
5.13.0-40-generic, but that also didn't have
CONFIG_INTEL_IOMMU_DEFAULT_ON set. I have attached the output of dmesg
when the intel mmu is enabled if that helps. Is there a patch that can
be applied to fix this or perhaps a dmi whitelist to make it so intel
mmu isn't enabled for this model?

[Bug 1970561] [NEW] Unable to load security device [snap] [libcryptoki]

2022-04-27 Thread Ville Aakko
Public bug reported:

Hi,

This is on Jammy LTS.

I can not add a security device into Firefox. The smart cards I'm using
requires a closed source client software (mPollux DigiSign client)
available here: https://dvv.fi/en/card-reader-software . The module the
user needs in this case is a PKCS#11 module, for which an open source
solution is not available at this time, as open source PKCS#11 solutions
do not support the current cards issued in Finland AFAIK (not sure if
this is relevant; case may be the snap Firefox fails with *all* security
modules at this time, but I don't have other modules to test.).

Loading the module fails with a generic message "Unable to load module"
(or the equivalent in the language configured for Firefox). As a general
troubleshooting step I reverted Firefox to the non-sandboxed, non-snap
version from the ppa ppa:mozillateam/ppa. With the non-snap version,
this security module can be added with no problems.

Possibly related (duplicate?):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1951646 . I'm not
sure about the duplicateness, however it is possible in case the
underlying cause is the same.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Have a smart card and a reader requiring to use mPollux DigiSign client (it
would be interesting to test other PKCS#11 modules, other smart card modules or
any security device in Firefox and see if it works)
2. Try to add a security device in Firefox via Settings -> Security and Privacy
-> Security Devices
3. Navigate to the needed .so (in my case: /usr/lib64/libcryptoki.so

Observed results:
Adding the module fails with a very generic and vague error message.

Expected results:
Adding the module should succeed.

[Bug 1970586] [NEW] No sound support on Linux AWS kernel (but supported on GCP)

2022-04-27 Thread Pete Woods
Public bug reported:

In GCP images it is possible to create virtual MIDI devices and
generally do stuff like audio routing, etc.

At CircleCI, where we run many of our VMs on Ubuntu in GCP, several of
our customers use this functionality to test audio equipment in their CI
runs.

Unfortunately they cannot run their tests on our AWS based VMs, as there
is no sound support compiled into the kernel on the AWS kernel and
images.

See the package listings for the other kernels for, e.g. the loopback driver:
```
linux-modules-extra-5.4.0-99-generic:
/lib/modules/5.4.0-99-generic/kernel/sound/drivers/snd-aloop.ko
linux-modules-extra-5.8.0-1031-oracle:
/lib/modules/5.8.0-1031-oracle/kernel/sound/drivers/snd-aloop.ko
linux-modules-extra-5.8.0-1032-gcp:
/lib/modules/5.8.0-1032-gcp/kernel/sound/drivers/snd-aloop.ko
```

We would love to be able to install the sound drivers (especially snd-
aloop) with the linux-modules-extra-aws package, but currently cannot,
and obviously do not want to start running our own kernels, as then we
lose the immediacy of kernel patches provided upstream by Canonical.

You can see the difference in the GCP:
https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-gcp/+git/jammy/tree/debian.gcp/config/config.common.ubuntu#n6884

and AWS kernel:
https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+git/jammy/tree/debian.aws/config/config.common.ubuntu

again there. The reasoning for the removal appears to be in this commit from
2016:
https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+git/jammy/commit/debian.aws/config/config.common.ubuntu?id=b5e310c4cc872c3fc7c7dd09ce67efb11eeaf07c

Possibly related: bug #1970561 - but I'm not sure. See my description in
that bug. If someone knows for certain, feel free to mark that as
duplicate.

I haven't tried a similar workaround as outlined by Olivier, but chosen
to use Firefox in the ppa for the time being.

  runs.

Unfortunately they cannot run their tests on our AWS based VMs, as there
is no sound support compiled into the kernel on the AWS kernel and
  images.

See the package listings for the other kernels for, e.g. the loopback driver:
  ```
  linux-modules-extra-5.4.0-99-generic:
/lib/modules/5.4.0-99-generic/kernel/sound/drivers/snd-aloop.ko
  linux-modules-extra-5.8.0-1031-oracle:
/lib/modules/5.8.0-1031-oracle/kernel/sound/drivers/snd-aloop.ko
  linux-modules-extra-5.8.0-1032-gcp:
/lib/modules/5.8.0-1032-gcp/kernel/sound/drivers/snd-aloop.ko
  ```

We would love to be able to install the sound drivers (especially snd-
aloop) with the linux-modules-extra-aws package, but currently cannot,
and obviously do not want to start running our own kernels, as then we
lose the immediacy of kernel patches provided upstream by Canonical.

You can see the difference in the GCP:

https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-gcp/+git/jammy/tree/debian.gcp/config/config.common.ubuntu#n6884

  and AWS kernel:

https://git.launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-aws/+git/jammy/tree/debian.aws/config/config.common.ubuntu

- again there. The reasoning for the removal appears to be in this commit:
+ again there. The reasoning for the removal appears to be in this commit from
2016:

[Bug 1954970] Re: remmina "Cannot connect to the RDP server ... via TLS. Check that the client and server support a common TLS version"

2022-04-27 Thread msaxl
I just discovered that a direct tls connection to a windows 7 (=2008r2) rdp
server indeed fails with
ERRCONNECT_TLS_CONNECT_FAILED

the error is that there is no cipher match (this probably happens also
with a 2008r2 based rdp gateway server, but that someone would need to
check)

this however can be workarounded by /tls-seclevel:0

If this resolves your issue I would suggest making this the default for
freerdp. If someone from the Ubuntu team is willing to integrate such a
thing I would make a downstream patch for that too..

[Bug 1940834] Re: Horizon not show flavor details in instance and resize is not possible - Flavor ID is not supported by nova

Author: Thomas Goirand
Date: Thu Feb 17 10:36:31 2022 +0100

Fix for "Resize instance" button

Currently, "Resize instance" widget is not working because it relies on
legacy Nova API v2.46, obsoleted in Pike release. Proposed patch make
Horizon use current Nova API (>=2.47).

Note: It also cherry-picks a7956cd004 from the master branch
which avoids the extra call of flavor_get in resize server form.

[Bug 1970588] [NEW] screen-shot-record.html doesn't reflect surprisingly swapped print screen key behaviour

2022-04-27 Thread lirel
Public bug reported:

https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/screen-shot-record.html.en#keyboard-shortcuts
doesn't reflect recent changes in ubuntu 22.04 where the behaviour of "print
screen" key functionality got swapped:

Print Screen to take a screenshot of the desktop.
Alt+Print Screen to take a screenshot of a window.
Shift+Print Screen to take a screenshot of an area you select.

should change to:

Print to open an HUD with an area selector. Then click in the small white
cicle to fullfill the screenshot.
Alt+Print Screen to take a screenshot of a window.
Shift+Print Screen Screen to take a screenshot of the desktop.

[Bug 1970141] Re: [nvidia] Desktop icons desktop is black

2022-04-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK so it really is the old (correct) desktop-icons extension in use.
That seems like the most likely explanation still.

I think comment #3 needs another attempt and more investigation because
we need to know if disabling the extension fixes it. Please try:

  gsettings set org.gnome.shell disabled-extensions "['desktop-
icons@csoriano']"

and if it doesn't work immediately then log in again.

If that still doesn't succeed in removing the icons then please run:

  cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell
  rm -rf extensions

and log in again.

[Bug 1970594] [NEW] "xdg-settings check default-web-browser something.desktop" fails in Kubuntu 22.04: Bad substitution

2022-04-27 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Public bug reported:

I'm reporting this issue from stock Ubuntu, but the problem is observed
only in Kubuntu (can be reliably reproduced in a Kubuntu 22.04 VM). The
version of xdg-utils is identical.

This problem was initially reported on the snapcraft forum:
https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/firefox-wont-set-as-my-default-
browser/29708.

$ xdg-settings check default-web-browser firefox_firefox.desktop
/usr/bin/xdg-settings: 734: Bad substitution

The offending line is:

if [ x"!" == x"${browser:0:1}" ]; then

If I modify /usr/bin/xdg-settings in place to set the interpreter to
/bin/bash on the first line of the script, the problem goes away.

[Bug 1970595] [NEW] The server installer double or triple fetches source ISO file

2022-04-27 Thread Robert Socha
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I'm not sure if this is bug or expected behavior but here we go.

I was doing server reinstall from already installed linux OS via grub
bootstraping (to continue installation via SSH due to lacking access to
the server's physical console). I noticed that ISO file pointed by url
bootoption is fetched three times by Ubuntu installer. I did some
checking and this is my observation.

ISO file: ubuntu-22.04-live-server-amd64.iso
(SHA256: 84aeaf7823c8c61baa0ae862d0a06b0340939480b3235854a6b38eb4856f)

IP used:
100.64.241.175 / local-install.vm - http server providing ISO and
{meta,user}-data files
100.64.100.100 - static IP for reinstalled server
100.64.0.1 - default gw
100.64.255.255 - DNS resolver

I tested two cases. One with DNS support and second one without DNS
resolver in place.

My grub.cfg looks like that:

menuentry 'Install with DNS support' {

  insmod gzio
  insmod part_msdos

ubuntu-22.04-live-server-amd64.iso is fetched twice. Once by wget

ubuntu-22.04-live-server-amd64.iso is fetched tree times (once by wget,
and two times by cloud-init).

I additonaly checked this with ubuntu-20.04.3-live-server-amd64.iso
(f8e3086f3cea0fb3fefb29937ab5ed9d19e767079633960ccb50e76153effc98) and
results are the same.

It's not big problem in LAN - but this is slow for insalling from remote
(Internet) location.

[Bug 1970252] Re: The `dig` and `host` commands core dump or give incomplete results in Ubuntu 22.04

2022-04-27 Thread Fedon Kadifeli
I have a Google Cloud instance (x86_64), a local VirtualBox virtual
desktop instance (x86_64), and an Oracle Cloud (aarch64) instance, as I
mentioned above. I haven't upgraded my physical notebook yet.

I can test your PPA on any or all of these virtual machines. Just give
me the instructions. Thanks.

Note: The hang may be related to IPv6 connectivity, since in my test
servers only the Oracle Cloud (aarch64) instance has IPv6 (global)
address. Just a thought though. :)

[Bug 1970141] Re: [nvidia] Desktop icons desktop is black

2022-04-27 Thread John Collins
Looking at your second answer first, I tried the "gsettings list-
recursively ..." but it didn't give any output. That might be because
I'd previously fixed the file to be world-readable after I'd noticed the
messages in the journal.

I've tried turning off world-readability but the messages haven't
reappeared. Seems like whatever was trying to access the file has been
satisfied when I let it read the file.

2022-04-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The defaults.list handling is still valid,
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/-/blob/main/gio/gdesktopappinfo.c#L985

The issue is that it ranks lower than gnome-mimeapps.list which got install by

[Bug 1970248] Re: .deb files open with Archive Manager by default

2022-04-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
We should revisit how we ship the default going forward, at least use
the non deprecated filename. The reason we ship from desktop-file-utils
was that it was a smaller and less risky package to upload to change
default.

But for now the first fix would probably be to remove the .install line
from gnome-session again

[Bug 1970492] Re: Firefox update pushing me to update to 91.0.1 when I am on 91.0.2

2022-04-27 Thread archerbob
The snap package has all kinds of problems so I installed the tar.bz2
package from the Firefox website and as you can plainly see I have
91.0.2 installed per the attached screenshot.

I dunno what is wrong with the snap package but the downloading and
saving of files is all messed up such as not saving to the downloads
folder and when I click on "open containing folder" nothing happens...
so I uninstalled the snap package.

The only thing annoying me presently is the update message coming up
multiple times a day and would very much like to shut it off
permanently.

[Bug 1969959] Re: [nouveau][amdgpu] Weird colors after startup (Ubuntu 22.04)

2022-04-27 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Keep it simple. Please start with only the AMD GPU.

If you have a laptop, just disconnect the external monitor.

If you have a desktop, just move the monitor connection to the
motherboard. You might have to also temporarily remove the Nvidia card
during that time or else the system will still prefer Nvidia even while
no monitor is connected to it.

Once you can use the machine with only AMD graphics, you can install the
Nvidia driver manually (even when no Nvidia card is installed):

  sudo apt install nvidia-driver-510

and reboot. Then it should be safe to go back to using Nvidia and multi-
monitors.

If you're installing Ubuntu from scratch then the shortcut to all this
is to choose the third-party software option during installation.

I am of course guessing that the problem is the nouveau driver and not
AMD...

[Bug 1958267] Re: "Connection failed" for WPA Enterprise network (e.g. eduroam)

2022-04-27 Thread Clemens Lang
It's definitely the infrastructure that's using old TLS. As for the
unsafe renegotiation, that happens because the server does not send a
renegotiation_info extension in its ServerHello message. See
https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc5746. See specifically section
4.1, which discusses client behavior. OpenSSL 3 defaults to the secure
client behavior, which requires the server to support RFC5746.

For the "0A0C0103:SSL routines::internal error" the issue is that these
servers only offer TLS 1.1 or older, which uses MD5-SHA1 as digest in
its signature algorithm. Due to recent collision attacks on SHA1, this
no longer meets OpenSSL default level of security of 80 bits (see
https://sha-mbles.github.io/, which reduced the chosen-prefix collision
to 63.4 bits).

[Bug 1970599] [NEW] casper manual page improvement -> casper(7)

But this syntax is not supported by Ubuntu Installer (I did not test
this for generated live medium - sorry)

What is supported for ip option (from

[Bug 1970595] Re: The server installer double or triple fetches source ISO file

2022-04-27 Thread Robert Socha
** Description changed:

- Hello,
+ Hello, hello,

I'm not sure if this is bug or expected behavior but here we go.

I was doing server reinstall from already installed linux OS via grub
bootstraping (to continue installation via SSH due to lacking access to
the server's physical console). I noticed that ISO file pointed by url
bootoption is fetched three times by Ubuntu installer. I did some
checking and this is my observation.

- ISO file: ubuntu-22.04-live-server-amd64.iso

  100.64.0.1 - default gw

[Bug 1954970] Re: remmina "Cannot connect to the RDP server ... via TLS. Check that the client and server support a common TLS version"

2022-04-27 Thread msaxl
The relevant change is SHA1 in openssl3
https://github.com/openssl/openssl/commit/aba03ae571ea677fc484daef00a21ca8f7e82708
SHA1 is, contrary to what someone would expect given that the documentation
says:

Level 4

Security level set to 192 bits of security. As a result RSA, DSA and
DH keys shorter than 7680 bits and ECC keys shorter than 384 bits are
prohibited. Cipher suites using SHA1 for the MAC are prohibited. TLS
versions below 1.2 are not permitted.

[Bug 1969394] Re: 'Settings & Livepatch' button opens 'settings' tab, not livepatch

2022-04-27 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Changing it would require some design work. Changing the label from'
settings' to 'Settings & Livepatch' was an easy way to get livepatch
mentioned but isn't a great user experience indeed. I wouldn't consider
it as a rls issue though, the features advertized are available in the
interface even if the tabs aren't the most obvious UI elements

[Bug 1970603] [NEW] DSI touchscreen not working with KMS under 5.15

2022-04-27 Thread Dave Jones
Public bug reported:

The official Raspberry Pi touchscreen (the 7" model connected via the
DSI port) does not operate when the KMS overlay is applied (as is the
default on the Ubuntu Desktop for Raspberry Pi images). The display does
operate on RaspiOS Bullseye, also running kernel 5.15, when the KMS
overlay is used. Notably, the display does work on Ubuntu with no KMS
overlay (legacy framebuffer), or with the FKMS ("fake" KMS) overlay.

The symptom is simply no output at all on the display. Sometimes there
is the initial "rainbow" screen of the start4.elf bootloader, but then
nothing. Notably this is *slightly* different to the Impish 5.13 kernel.
On thata version, the DSI display also failed with the KMS overlay, but
in that case there was an initial flashing cursor (presumably at the
start of the initrd, perhaps on a leftover framebuffer?) which then
disappears before anything is printed. On 5.15 there's nothing after the
"rainbow".

The symptoms are the same on both armhf and arm64 images.

2022-04-27 Thread Olivier Tilloy
If you're using the upstream tarball, this is not the place to report
the problem. Try https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ instead. Note that in any
case, 91.0.2 is outdated: stable is currently at 99.0.1, and ESR at
91.8.0.

[Bug 1969140] Re: Window minimize animation flickers and appears in the wrong place

2022-04-27 Thread Cristiano
may I could find the cause of this problem. if you look, the second
animation is actually the animation that gnome shell runs when you
minimize windows. gnome shell minimize application to the "activities"
button while dash to dock tend to override to bottom, left or right
depending on where you put the dock

we need to disable the gnome shell animation and I emphasize that this
glitch does not occur in wayland session
